Anitta And Maluma Are Movie Stars In Their New Video, ‘El Que Espera’

Anitta and Maluma have just dropped a steamy new video. In “El Que Espera,” the two international music superstars appear on the set of a film production. When the cameras are rolling, the two seem to be happy, passionate lovers, but when they’re off, the arguments ensue.

This year has been an exciting year for Anitta, as the Brazilian superstar dropped her much-anticipated album, Versions Of Me, performed at Coachella, and made an appearance at the Met Gala. But no matter how quickly her star is rising, she promises to always be a source of inspiration to her home country, Brazil.

“When we get fame, we can get lost in this game and forget who we are,” she said in recent interview with Interview. “Why did I start this whole thing? Why am I doing this? For me, it was never about getting famous and rich. It was about changing my people’s lives, my country’s life. So if I’m going to the Met Gala or Coachella or the VMAs, it’s not because I want to show off. It’s because I want my country to believe that they can go to places that they’ve never been.”

DJ Premier, Remy Ma, And Rapsody Take It Back To The 90s In The Nostalgia-Inducing ‘Remy Rap’ Video

As seen from all of the movie remakes, television show reboots, and older fashions coming back in style, there is nothing people love more than reveling in nostalgia. Though some efforts are half-hearted and fall short, DJ Premier, Remy Ma, and Rapsody hit the mark in the new “Remy Rap” video.

As Preemo spins on the 1’s and 2’s, Remy Ma dons a thigh-length, long sleeve New York Rangers jersey and boasts about her place in rap amongst the women. She even addresses the allegations of having a ghostwriter with “Every time I spit some sh*t, they saying that it’s really Pap” before the camera pans to her husband Papoose and recalls her hits “Lean Back,” “Conceited,” and “All The Way Up.”

The transition to Rapsody’s verse finds her behind the camera doing a photoshoot for Remy before getting her bars off. Rapsody refers to life as a curvy woman and deems herself her biggest fan, in addition to separating herself from the pack with “Wah wah, y’all cry, I’m on a different tier / We ain’t the same, me and you got some different fears.”

This lyrical exhibition is the first visual offering from DJ Premier’s recent EP Hip Hop 50 Volume 1, which also features Lil Wayne, Slick Rick, Joey Badass, Nas, and Run The Jewels. The forthcoming volumes within the 10-part EP series will include production efforts from Mustard, Swizz Beats, Hit-Boy, No I.D., and multiple other musical powerhouses.

Blackstarkids Announce Their New Album, ‘Cyberkiss,’ And Premiere A New Song Called ‘Sex Appeal’

Blackstarkids are throwing it back to the aughts on their upcoming album. Today, the band has announced Cyberkiss, which is set to arrive this fall, and take inspiration from artists like N.E.R.D., Smashing Pumpkins, Weezer, and Outkast.

Ahead of the album, the band has dropped a new single called “Sex Appeal,” on which the group members channel the futuristic stylings of the icons who came before them, while exuding a fresh confidence and bringing a welcome, much-needed eccentricity back to music. “Don’t talk to me unless you’ve got sex appeal,” says the group, over a track reminiscent of early Pharrell beats.

“This song is a homage to 2000s Neptunes, Timbaland, and Missy,” said Blackstarkids in a statement. “As well as, lyrically, a homage to Jay Z. ‘Light Your Ass On Fire’ from Clones was a big inspiration on this track, and we wanted to have a song that felt fun and confident.”

Cordae Shows His Versatility In His Two New Singles ‘Unacceptable’ And ‘So With That’

Last month, Cordae tweeted about how after a four-hour road trip it dawned on him that his debut album The Lost Boy is better than the follow-up From A Birds Eye View. He closed the post with “My bad y’all. Ima do better next time. I got sumn to prove.” Today (August 11) he released his first steps toward redemption in the two new singles “Unacceptable” and “So With That.”

A known talented lyricist, the 24-year-old flexed his ability to craft two unique listening experiences. “Unacceptable,” produced by ATL Jacob and Hendrix Smoke, is earnest ear candy for modern-day music listeners with a mid-tempo trap feel. “So With That” sounds like he took a road trip to the past, with a backpack rap-type beat laced with high-pitched vocal samples.

The accompanying video finds the “RNP” rapper riding in the car with a woman before later sitting on a couch rapping while she yells at him. Surely Cordae hopes that the fan reception to these records is the inverse of her ferocity as he works toward his next project.

These records come over almost seven months after From A Birds Eye View, which featured Lil Wayne, Lil Durk, HER, Gunna, and Stevie Wonder. He also turned the album into a full, live visual production.

Ari Lennox Says Her Long-Awaited Follow-Up To ‘Shea Butter Baby’ Is Done

R&B fans have been eating well this year, thanks to releases from the likes of Giveon, Kehlani, and Syd and the upcoming release of SZA’s CTRL follow-up. However, one name has been missing from the lineup: Dreamville’s Ari Lennox, whose 2019 debut album Shea Butter Baby was also her last. But that may be changing soon, as the Washington, DC native recently announced that her next album is done on Twitter. “Are you guys ready??” she asked.

She’s also announced that “Hoodie,” the lead single for the new album, drops this Friday, August 12, sharing the devious cover art. The design sees Ari sitting atop a water tank in which she’s apparently trapped a man who struggles to get loose as she looks on.

The singer’s fans could use the good news after she’s had something of a rough year so far. Late last year, she ran into some trouble at the airport in Amsterdam, saying she’d been racially profiled and arrested and later remarking that she was not okay, even a month later. Then, an early appearance on a South African podcast led to the singer feeling disrespected and even expressing a wish to be dropped from her label. However, things have been looking up since Ari contributed to Dreamville’s D-Day Gangsta Grillz mixtape and changed her management. She certainly appears to be in a better place mentally, and hopefully for her fans, that translates into music that makes the wait worthwhile.

The Game’s Insane ‘Drillmatic’ Tracklist Features Roddy Rich, 2 Chainz, Ice-T, Kanye, ASAP Rocky, And More

The Game looks to be dropping Drillmatic: Heart Vs Mind this week. The long-anticipated and oft-delayed album has been taking a toll on the rapper who just last week, announced he was taking a mental health break. “The past two weeks have been a nightmare for me,” he said. Adding that “Not only have I been backstabbed & betrayed. I’ve been left to pick up the pieces alone.” Hopefully, the man can find some peace once his album drops on Friday. And at the very least, the tracklist and the sheer volume of high-profile features on Drillmatic would make any artist proud.

Not only will “Eazy” with Kanye West be one of two Ye features on the album, but there’s a diverse who’s who of hip-hop names throughout the 31 tracks. From Ice-T and 2 Chainz to Jeremih, Lil Wayne, Roddy Rich, and ASAP Rocky. It’s a thoroughly insane list of guests and The Game even said that Jay-Z cleared seven samples on the album too.

Rod Wave’s ‘Beautiful Mind’ Tracklist Unveils An Upcoming Collaboration With Jack Harlow

Ever since Rod Wave was arrested and charged with battery for choking his ex-girlfriend, there has been a damper on the excitement for his upcoming album, Beautiful Mind. However, that hasn’t stopped the album’s rollout, which included videos for singles “Stone Rolling” and “Alone.” Today, Rod shared the album’s tracklist ahead of its eventual release at midnight, unveiling a 24-song set including the Jack Harlow collaboration, “Yungen,” as well as the previously released single, “Cold December.”

While Rod’s previous album SoulFly debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, he may have a harder time repeating that feat, even without the grisly charges hanging over his head. Megan Thee Stallion surprised fans earlier today with the announcement that her own album, Traumazine, would be dropping tonight as well, giving Rod Wave some stiff competition for rap fans’ attention thanks to a busy date that also includes releases from Black Thought & Danger Mouse and The Game.

Meanwhile, with only one feature in Jack Harlow, there aren’t too many other big names on Rod Wave’s album to get fans amped up but Jack Harlow might well be the only name he needs. The Louisville rapper has been on a tear lately, racking up seven MTV VMA nominations (tying with Kendrick Lamar for the most nominations this year) and preparing for his starring debut role in White Men Can’t Jump.

Beautiful Mind is due 8/12 via Alamo.

Questlove Bought A Farm And Is ‘Preparing For The Next Apocalypse’

When the coronavirus pandemic first became a matter of significant global concern, a lot of folks quickly realized they were not as prepared for this sort of thing as they may have thought. If a major situation like that rears its head again, Questlove is doing all he can to get ready “for the next apocalypse” by buying a farm.

In a HipHopDX interview, Quest said he recently bought a farm, which includes a “warehouse haven” for his vinyl collection and is his “version of Noah’s Arc.” He said:

“I recently purchased a farm, so I’m building a warehouse haven for all my records. I’ll say that another thing that happened during the pandemic was my ‘never again-ship.’ My ex convinced me, she was like, ‘I know you love this penthouse you live in, but God forbid, if we’re ever in this situation again, you might want land. You might want a safe haven for your family to run to in case something happens.’

So I got a little eight-acre spot and basically, I’m building my version of Noah’s Arc. My dream place that, in case something happens, then I know to ring the alarm and everyone knows immediately to report to Amir’s farm. That’s kind of what I’m preparing. I can just stop now and have a simple house, but I’m preparing for the next apocalypse.”

He also touched on Rick Ross’ recent purchase of a cow, saying, “Here’s what people don’t know about the cow situation: For tax purposes, if you have cattle on your land, that’s literally tax breaks right there. So I assume that’s why Ross does it. I spoke to him about it because I wanted to know what kind of tractor trailer does he use.”

Questlove added:

“And here’s the thing: Everyone needs a morning routine. Right now, my morning routine is stretching and doing a little bit of yoga and my breathing exercises. But for Ross, he gets on his tractor trailer and just rides around his property. You have to at least get two hours a day where you’re completely silent and you just listen to nature. In other words, like if you have a MacBook Pro and you got way too many windows open on your Safari, you got to refresh.

I’m guilty of it, too. I’m certain, if I open my computer now, it’s 60 windows open. So you have to shut it down and restart again. That’s a meditative process. I love that Ross does that. I want to do it, too.”
