DaBaby In The Studio With Nas, Ab-Soul, And More

DaBaby hasn’t slowed down the speed with which he’s released new material. Last year he dropped two new albums starting with BETTER THAN YOU a full-length collaborative project with NBA Youngboy. He followed it up with Baby On Baby 2 a sequel to his breakout project. Now, he’s back in the studio working on some new material with an unpredictable cast of collaborators. Nas and his frequent producer Hit-Boy, as well as Big-Hit and Top Dawg Entertainment member Ab-Soul were all together in the studio. While it’s unclear specifically what they’re working on, that much talent in one room was sure to draw attention.

Given that none of the three rappers involved have collaborated before and that they occupy such different styles of the genre, fans aren’t really sure what to make of the new videos. Some online are already claiming that Nas would wash Dababy in any song they made together while others are confused how Ab-Soul’s word-bending lyrical style would fit in with either artist. On top of that, none have expressly announced new music coming soon so it’s unclear what they could be working on. Regardless, others expressed excitement at the potential for some unexpected collaborations to emerge from the studio sessions.

DaBaby Hits The Studio In Surprising Company

Recently, DaBaby has been trying his hand at a new medium entirely. The rapper has taken a spin at directing music videos this year. Just last week Lil Duval dropped a music video for one of his new songs that was directed by Baby. That was just a month after clips of the rapper directing a different music video for Moneybagg Yo first hit the internet.

Earlier this year DaBaby released a new hit song in “SHAKE SUMN.” The track has stuck in the Hot 100 for months since it first dropped. Along it the way it got a remix from up-and-coming star Sexyy Red. What do you think of DaBaby hitting the studio with Nas and Ab-Soul? Let us know in the comment section below.

Benny the Butcher Announces Marriage to His Longtime Girlfriend India

Benny The Butcher's Buffalo Home Catches Fire, Family Safe

Congratulations go out to Benny the Butcher, who revealed he is married. Hitting X, The Butcher revealed he married his longtime girlfriend, India.

“Real east side dope boy…I married a project princess,” Benny wrote. “Me and India officially MARRIED.”

Benny the Butcher and Hit-Boy are ready to run it back, prepping their new album Everybody Can’t Go. With fans looking for an update, Benny and Hit shared a clip that teased the forthcoming release.

Benny the Butcher first teased the album through his fashion choice. Showing his fit from the 2023 Grammys, The Butcher dropped off the title, Everybody Can’t Go, in the caption.

“Sometimes the experience of the journey is a better feeling than reaching the destination. You won’t ever kno unless u make it there…but remember ‘EVERYBODY CAN’T GO,’” Benny wrote. “The Album produced by @hitboy…Loading[.]“

The duo of Benny and Hit connected in 2020 on the stellar Burden of Proof. The album featured Lil Wayne, Dom Kennedy, Rick Ross, Conway the Machine, and more. Everybody Can’t Go was scheduled for July, which has passed. A new release date is currently a mystery.

Hit-Boy Says Benny The Butcher’s New Album Has Been Delayed

Rap fans are no stranger to projects being delayed past their initial release dates. Just this week Trippie Redd became the latest artist to push a new project back. His A Love Letter To You 5 mixtape was slated to release today but was pushed back a week at the last minute. Now, prolific Griselda rapper Benny The Butcher could be the next big name to push his album release back. Producer Hit-Boy who is working on the project shared the news on the Elliott Wilson Experience earlier this week. “It was supposed to come in August but I think it’s getting pushed back,” Hit-Boy explains. He also estimates that around 9 of the songs on the project were produced by him.

Benny The Butcher originally announced his new album Everybody Can’t Go back in April. He confirmed that the project was slated to come in August, though updates have been pretty sparse since then. He’s contributed to a pair of other new singles in the meantime though. Benny joined Curren$y and Harry Fraud on the track “Stingray” which landed on their collaborative album Vices earlier this year. His fellow Griselda member Conway The Machine also dropped a project earlier this year encapsulating his entire Drumwork label. Benny teamed up with Conway and 38 Spesh on the track “LALO.”

One of the updates Benny shared on the album mentioned an artist who might appear on it. In an Instagram live stream, he previewed some new music and teased about a potential Lil Wayne collab appearing on the album. Benny The Butcher has come close to securing some major collaborations in the past only for things to fall apart. Back in June he shared a story in an interview about a potential collab with Jay-Z. Jay reached out to him about collaborating and the pair were even in the same city but it never actually happened.

Benny has also talked in the past about a Drake collab he has on the shelf. He expressed his frustration that it can’t be released due to industry mechanisms. What do you think of Benny The Butches having to delay his new album? Let us know in the comment section below.

Nas And Hit-Boy Received Some High Praise From Magic Johnson For Naming A Song After Him

The latest addition to Nas and Hit-Boy’s growing joint discography has arrived. Magic 2, the duo’s fifth collaborative project in just four years, dropped on Friday, July 21, earning praise from not just hip-hop heads but also one of the celebrities name-checked on the album. The song “Earvin Magic Johnson” is a reference to the NBA legend, but rather than praising his achievements on the court, it instead refers to his business acumen — something Nas can obviously relate to.

Magic himself acknowledged the reference on Twitter (I refuse to call it X, just like the Staples Center will never be called Crypto.com Arena by LA locals). “On Nas’s new album Magic 2 he dedicated track 7 to me called Earvin Magic Johnson!” he wrote. ““Thank you for the respect and honor of my business acumen. You’re a hell of a businessman in your own right!”

He’s not exaggerating. Last year, Nas teamed up with Google to invest in a video game company (just when video games are experiencing rapid growth), and he was one of the earliest of hip-hop’s icons to put his money into cryptocurrency. Meanwhile, Magic Johnson continues to be a big-time investor in his own right; last year, he joined a group bidding on the NFL’s Las Vegas Raiders.

Nas And Hit-Boy’s ‘Magic 2’ Tracklist Features 21 Savage And 50 Cent

Just days after announcing the impending release of their fifth joint project, Magic 2, Nas and Hit-Boy have also shared the album’s tracklist and features, which include both 21 Savage and 50 Cent. This is notable because both of those rappers have engaged to some degree in controversy with Nas over the years — 50 Cent decades ago, during the juggernaut G-Unit heyday, and 21 Savage more recently.

In 50’s case, the two fellow Queens natives had toured together early on in 50’s career, and Nas was one of the dozens of rappers 50 mentioned in his breakout hit, “How To Rob.” And while Nas initially shrugged off the shots as just clever execution of the concept, the two rappers feuded in earnest in the mid-2000s after Nas made disparaging comments onstage during during a concert in New York. 50 nearly escalated the feud with a scathing diss track, but was stopped by Dr. Dre.

Meanwhile, 21 Savage drew criticism from fans late last year when he happened to suggest that Nas isn’t so relevant anymore during a chat on Clubhouse. However, that may have just been rollout, because he backtracked within 24 hours and two weeks later, the two rappers had released a collaboration, “One Mic, One Gun” — the song that appears on Magic 2.

Nas And Hit-Boy Announce Their ‘Magic 2’ And Reveal Its Release Date And Artwork

Nas and Hit-Boy have been on quite the run. Their musical partnership began in 2020 with King’s Disease, and since then, the cross-generational duo has released three more albums. Two were follow-ups to King’s Disease, while the third was a “break” between them titled Magic. They distinguished Magic by making it much shorter than the other albums, with grittier production and a rawer approach to the lyricism — taking it back to the streets, as it were.

Today, they announced their fifth collaborative project, Magic 2, which will presumably be similar to the first, a palate cleanser before they drop another installment of the King’s Disease series. The partnership has utterly rejuvenated Nas, who has finally been able to shake off some of his “lead ear” reputation over past beat choices, and given Hit-Boy a second life as a well-respected producer for legacy acts as well as blog-era favorites.

The latest announcement has plenty of fans wondering just when the California beat maker has time to sleep. In the past four years, he’s released three other collaborative projects (with Pacman da Gunman, Dreezy, and Musiq Soulchild), as well as two solo projects under the Surf Or Drown banner. The latter features multiple appearances from Hit-Boy’s father, Big Hit, who spent nine years behind bars but has come back strong, picking up where the duo left off in 2014 with “Grindin’ My Whole Life.”

Magic 2 is due on 7/21 via Mass Appeal Records.
