The Roots’ First New Album In Over A Decade Will Finally Arrive In 2025, And Questlove Hints At The Release Date

Questlove recently spoke with Common and Pete Rock on his Questlove Supreme podcast, and the conversation yielded something The Roots fans have been waiting for since the group’s latest album, 2014’s …And Then You Shoot Your Cousin: News of a new album.

During the episode, Questlove said of the upcoming project, “I know the exact date I want to release it, and it’s not 2024, but it’s a seminal 2025 date that will make sense once it comes out.”

Worth noting is that 2025 will mark the 30th anniversary of The Roots’ Do You Want More?!!!??! (which was released on January 17, 1995), as well as the 15th anniversaries of How I Got Over (June 22, 2010) and the collaborative John Legend album Wake Up! (September 21, 2010).

Quest also spoke about how Common and Pete Rock’s 2024 joint album The Auditorium Vol. 1 has inspired him and Black Thought (Tariq Trotter) to finish their upcoming album. He said:

“I will say that it’s made Tariq into… the motherf*cker wrote seven songs in one day! We have not done that since our second album. […] I was like, ‘Yo, dog. You ain’t going to believe this, but Rash [Common] and Pete made the perfect summit meeting record. No person’s outshining the other person.’ […] I was just going off about it and I could tell I planted a seed. But then, I think after the Hollywood Bowl performance that we did, […] I think that lit something under Tariq.

I mean, I can say in the last two weeks, he’s knocked off at least 80 percent. […] I mean, back in Do You Want More?!!!??! days, ‘Riq would write, like, six or seven songs in a setting. This album is definitely […] it’s probably what he’s working on right now as I speak. It’s inspiring.”

The Alchemist Hints At J Cole Collaboration For “The Fall Off”

J Cole may have landed a collaboration with The Alchemist for his upcoming album, The Fall Off. Answering questions from fans on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, Alc replied with a zipper-mouth face emoji when a user asked if he produced any tracks on the highly-anticipated project. He also addressed working with another Dreamville artist in JID. “Stay tuned and find out,” he remarked of that possibility.

In responses to the post, fans demanded to know when The Fall Off will actually be dropping. It’s been over three years since Cole’s last studio album, The Off-Season, although he did release the mixtape, Might Delete Later, back in April. Other fans joked that the long-awaited Grand Theft Auto 6 may end up releasing before fans get their hands on Cole’s next effort.

It is the most amazingest rapping I have seen and heard thus far.”

The Alchemist Might Be Teaming Up With J Cole

Missy Elliott Grabs Victory Over Fellow Songwriter For Aaliyah Royalties

Back in mid-November 2018, Missy Elliott, Timbaland, as well as Aaliyah’s estate, were all taken to court by songwriter, Terry Williams. Specifically, the latter sued them for not receiving any royalties for the late R&B legend’s track, “Heartbroken”. Williams claimed that he co-wrote the song with Missy sometime in between 1994-1995. For those curious, “Heartbroken” would go on to release in 1996. He asserts that the only way that Aaliyah got her hands on the record was because Missy sneakily sold the record to her behind his back. Furthermore, Williams says that him and the legendary femcee signed a deal to share the profits from “Heartbroken”.

With that background information in hand, let’s fast forward to today because we have a new update from AllHipHop. After tons of disproving from Elliott and lots of hard thinking from Judge Quiñones Alejandro, the latter is giving the win to the rapper. There is a three-year statute of limitations on issues like these, and Alejandro says that Williams didn’t “exhibit reasonable diligence in recognizing the alleged infringement”. It’s worth noting that Williams also took Missy to court over records penned going back to 1993, too.

In Judge Alejandro’s statement, he says, “Williams commenced this action against Elliott on November 14, 2018, over twenty-two years after the release of ‘Heartbroken.’ Under these circumstances, this Court further finds that Williams has failed to offer evidence that he exercised due diligence. As such, Williams’ co-ownership claim based on the song ‘Heartbroken’ released by Aaliyah is barred by the three-year statute of limitations”. However, this just one of many disputes, as Williams sued her for multiple other artists’ records. But she can still celebrate this one, and its perhaps the most important for Missy.

What are your thoughts on Missy Elliott winning the royalties battle in court over the Aaliyah track “Heartbroken”? How much longer do you think it will take for her and Terry Williams to resolve all of this? We would like to hear what you have to say, so leave your thoughts in the comments. Travis Scott Shocks Fans With Insane “Days Before Rodeo” First Week Sales Figures

Travis Scott went on an impressive run during the earliest stages of his career. Overall, one of his most beloved projects is Days Before Rodeo, which came out back in 2014. This is a project that spawned the Scott sound that so many fell in love with. While the project is nowhere near as polished as Rodeo or even Astroworld, there is no doubt that the pieces of greatness were present. Unfortunately, the project had been missing from streaming services for years. Last Friday, that all changed much to the delight of fans.

As a result of this re-release, Scott decided to launch a whole bunch of bundles on his website. Every piece of merch comes with a digital album sale. Meanwhile, Scott’s fans have been flocking to Spotify and Apple Music to run up the streams. As a result of all of these efforts, Scott’s 10-year-old mixtape is set to sell 217K units in its first week. It is a monumental number especially when you think about how numerous hip-hop projects have struggled to sell over 60K units this year.

Travis Scott Continues To Dominate The Charts

Many fans were shocked by Travis Scott’s numbers, especially since he beat out Post Malone who just dropped off an immensely popular country album. Furthermore, he is contending for the number-one spot on the charts with Sabrina Carpenter. While he is unlikely to win that battle, you never know. If he launches more merch and maybe some $1 vinyls, he could end up with a huge upset victory. No matter what, these numbers are impressive and show that Travis has the youth on lock still.

Megan Thee Stallion Hard Launches Relationship With NBA Star

Megan Thee Stallion has been in some public relationships in the past. Overall, we have seen her with the likes of Pardison Fontaine, MoneyBagg Yo, and Tory Lanez. However, over the past few months, she has been single. Or at least that’s what fans thought. Last night, Meg posted a new couple’s challenge TikTok in which she was laid up with Chicago Bulls player, Torrey Craig. Despite the TikTok, fans still know very little about this relationship. It’s impossible to tell when and where they may have met. Moreover, it is still unknown how long they’ve been together. What we do know, however, is that the two look happy. Unfortunately, the internet does what it does best in these types of situations. In the comments section of The Shade Room, there was a whole lot of negativity, mostly directed at Meg. Luckily, she still had some people in the comments looking to defend her.

Bad Bunny Joins All Star Cast of Crime Thriller ‘Caught Stealing’ Alongside Regina King, Zoë Kravitz and more

image

Seems like Bad Bunny, is really getting into his acting bag more these days. The Latin music super star whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, just joined the star-studded cast of Darren Aronofsky’s upcoming crime thriller “Caught Stealing.”

Bad Bunny will share the screen with Austin Butler, Zoë Kravitz, and Regina King. Just a few A-list stars. No big deal.

Get this, Deadline first reported Bad Bunny’s casting in the film, which is based on the novel by Charlie Huston. The plot centers on Hank Thompson (played by Butler), a former baseball player whose life spirals into chaos as he becomes entangled in the criminal underworld of 1990s New York City.

But details about Bad Bunny’s role are being kept close to the vest. His addition to the cast adds to the film’s buzz. He joins a lineup that also includes Matt Smith, Liev Schreiber, and Will Brill.

As we mentioned, Bad Bunny has been steadily building his acting career, making his on-screen debut in Netflix’s “Narcos: Mexico” in 2021 and later starring alongside Brad Pitt in David Leitch’s “Bullet Train.”

Good for him but we still hope he focuses on his music as much as his new acting career.

LeBron James Sets Boundaries with Son Bronny on the Lakers: ‘He Can’t Call Me Dad’

image

What ya’ll thought, Bronny was going to be passing the ball to his father in a game yelling “Daddy?” We didn’t either.

So here we go. As the Los Angeles Lakers prepare for a unique season featuring both LeBron James and his son Bronny James on the same team, LeBron has established a key rule for their professional relationship: no calling him “Dad” on the court.

“We’ve already laid that down,” LeBron said in an upcoming episode of ‘The Shop,’ which was filmed in Paris during the Olympics earlier this month. “He cannot call me ‘Dad’ in the workplace. Once we leave the practice facility and the gates close, I can be ‘Dad’ again.”

Unless you were under a rock in the sports world, Bronny was selected by the Lakers with the 55th overall pick in the NBA Draft earlier this summer after one season at USC. He secured a four-year, $7.9 million guaranteed contract with the team, an unusual achievement for a second-round pick. During the Lakers’ Summer League in Las Vegas, Bronny showed promise by scoring in double figures in several games, despite initially struggling from the three-point line.

LeBron has long expressed his desire to share the court with his son before retiring.

He is about to get his wish.

When they eventually play together in an NBA game, they will become the first father-son duo to be teammates in the league’s history, and only the fourth such duo in major American professional sports.

However, it’s still uncertain how Bronny will fit into the Lakers’ roster under first-year head coach JJ Redick, who recently replaced Darvin Ham.

The Lakers cleaned house and got rid of the entire coaching staff. JJ is not playing around.

The dynamic between LeBron and Bronny as teammates is another question mark.

LeBron is confident about the name change on the court, but here’s what else he said:

“It’s easy for me. It’s going to be an adjustment for him,” LeBron said. “But we can not be running down the court, and he be like, ‘Dad, push the ball up. Dad, I’m open! Dad!’ No, he cannot do that.” We concur, Bron.

Isaac Hayes’ Estate Given Emergency Hearing Over Trump’s Unauthorized Use of Song

image

From Trump NFT’s to Trump lawsuits. Just like that.

First, off, the estate of legendary musician Isaac Hayes has secured an emergency court hearing in its ongoing legal battle against former President Donald Trump for the unauthorized use of Hayes’s iconic song, “Hold On, I’m Coming,” at Trump’s rallies.

News came in after Isaac Hayes III, the singer’s son, announced the emergency hearing via social media on August 23, revealing that the legal proceedings are scheduled for September 3. He later confirmed that Trump and his team were officially served with the lawsuit and notice of the hearing.

Get this, the lawsuit, filed after numerous warnings to cease the unauthorized use of the song, accuses Trump and his campaign of infringing on Hayes’s copyright 134 times between 2022 and 2024.

ICYMI, the estate demands that Trump stop using the song, remove all related videos, issue a public disclaimer, and pay $3 million in licensing fees. Failure to meet these demands by August 16 prompted the estate to escalate the matter to court.

If you’ve been keeping track, the case is part of a broader pattern of legal challenges faced by Trump over his use of music at political events without permission. Artists including Adele, The Rolling Stones, and Rihanna have also objected to their music being used by Trump’s campaign.

James L. Walker Jr., the attorney representing Hayes’s estate had this to say:

“It is most unfortunate that these artists have publicly posted on their social media and asked Team Trump and other candidates not to use their music — and yet their candidates keep using their music,” Walker said in a statement.

Trump Slanging $99 NFT Collection in Crypto Push

image

Let’s get something straight. When a former president sells sneakers, bibles, t-shirts, commemorative coins and now NFTs, there’s something weird going on.

Let’s get to the NFT thing. President Donald Trump has unveiled a new set of digital trading cards, part of his ongoing effort to engage with cryptocurrency enthusiasts as he eyes the upcoming election.

The “Series 4: The America First Collection” of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) was launched on Tuesday, each card priced at $99.

$99 bucks. For a Trump NFT. During the biggest presidential election season of modern times. Grifting his supporters. Doesn’t this seem weird?

Get this, the latest collection features Trump in various poses, including one as a “sneakerhead” showcasing his line of gold shoes, another depicting him in a superhero suit labeled “SuperTrump,” and several others under the title “crypto president,” a nickname he gave himself at a tech fundraiser earlier this year.

But check this out, it gets better. Trump’s NFTs come with various perks for buyers who meet certain spending thresholds, including autographed merchandise, pieces of his debate suit, and even dinner with the former president. High-end purchasers who spend $24,750, exclusively in cryptocurrency, are promised tickets to a Trump gala in Florida and cocktails with the former president.

The new collection follows a series of previous NFT drops that Trump claims have generated over $4 million per release, although the exact portion of that revenue going to Trump remains undisclosed. Wasn’t Tory Lanez doing this?

It appears Trump’s latest NFT launch is part of a broader strategy to appeal to the crypto community, despite his previous criticism of cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, which he once described as a “scam against the dollar.”

If you recall, while in office, Trump was outspoken against cryptocurrency, calling it “highly volatile and based on thin air.” However, his stance has since softened, and he has made several moves to align himself with the crypto industry, including meeting with Bitcoin miners and speaking at major cryptocurrency events.

Trump’s embrace of the crypto world is seen as a bid to attract new supporters as he prepares for a tight election race against Vice President Kamala Harris. His running mate, Senator JD Vance of Ohio, who’s getting more attention these days for his trips to donut shops and his haircut, if you want to call it that, is also a pro-crypto candidate, further solidifying their ticket’s appeal to the tech-savvy electorate.

Idk. Seems, weird.
