A'Ja Wilson Drops 53 Points to Tie WNBA Single-Game Scoring Record

In Wednesday’s 86-75 win over the Indiana Fever, A’ja Wilson made WNBA history by setting a new record for the most points scored in a single season.

Wilson’s pull-up jumper with 26.4 seconds left in the first half brought her to 941 points for 2024, surpassing Jewell Loyd’s previous record of 939 set last season. By the end of the game, Wilson had 27 points, bringing her total to 956, just 44 points shy of becoming the first WNBA player to reach 1,000 in a season.

“It feels great because now people will stop talking about it,” Wilson said in postgame. “Felt like it was just like lingering, lingering, lingering, so I’m glad that we got it done.

“I don’t want to sound cliché when I say this, but I don’t get any of that without every single teammate along the way. And I’m so grateful to be able to play with selfless women. They give it their all every single day, and they’re their pure selves, and that’s what I love the most. My teammates, they’re the heartbeat, they keep me going.”

Returning after a minor ankle injury, Wilson continues her dominance. The two-time MVP (2020, 2022) and 2023 Finals MVP has led the Aces to consecutive titles and secured MVP honors at the Paris Olympics, where Team USA clinched its eighth straight gold.

Lil Wayne’s “A Milli” Could Be Amazing To Hear At The Super Bowl

Everyone is talking about the decision to select Kendrick Lamar over Lil Wayne for this year’s Super Bowl Halftime Show. Overall, an overwhelming number of people are team Weezy in this ongoing debate, and we can see why. Obviously, Kendrick is a great pick, but the Hot Boys member has just as many if not more classics. While you can argue his performing chops aren’t what they used to be, seeing him rock one of the biggest stages in the world, especially in his home state of Louisiana, would be a sight to see. Just imagine Lil Wayne going setting the field ablaze with “A Milli”.

All of this back-and-forth online has us daydreaming about this very possibility. The cultural impact and the iconic performance from Wayne on this Carter III single would “feed families” as the kids say nowadays. However, we are still holding out hope that Kendrick will bring out one of his biggest influences for a special guest performance. Not only would that be a viral story, but it would be another W for the culture of hip-hop, much like the halftime performance back in Inglewood a few years ago. The Los Angeles Lakers announced Tuesday that they will pay tribute to the late Jerry West by wearing a band with his No. 44 on the left shoulder of their uniforms for all 82 games of the 2024-25 season.

West, who spent his entire 14-year Hall of Fame career with the Lakers and later became a successful coach and executive for the franchise, passed away in June at 86. The tribute honors West’s immense impact on the organization and the NBA.

Born on May 28, 1938, in Chelyan, West Virginia, West’s influence on the game of basketball is immeasurable, spanning an illustrious playing career and transformative executive roles.

West first rose to prominence at West Virginia University, where his stellar play led his team to the NCAA finals in 1959. His exceptional performance caught the attention of the NBA, and he was drafted second overall by the Minneapolis Lakers in 1960.

With the Lakers, who soon relocated to Los Angeles, West quickly became one of the league’s premier guards. Nicknamed “Mr. Clutch” for his remarkable ability to deliver in crucial moments, he was renowned for his scoring ability, precise shooting, and defensive tenacity. Over 14 seasons, he earned 14 All-Star selections and was named to the All-NBA First Team 10 times. West led the Lakers to the NBA Finals nine times, finally winning a championship in 1972.

West’s silhouette is immortalized in the NBA’s iconic logo, symbolizing his enduring legacy. After retiring as a player in 1974, he transitioned to coaching and later to an executive role, where he continued to shape the NBA. As the General Manager of the Lakers, he constructed championship-winning teams in the 1980s and 2000s, securing stars like Magic Johnson, Shaquille O’Neal, and Kobe Bryant.

Jay-Z and Michael Rubin are set to host a high-stakes $250,000 blackjack tournament this Sunday in Atlantic City. The exclusive event, as reported by Page Six, will celebrate the grand opening of the new Fanatics Sportsbook at Ocean Casino Resort. Rubin and Jay-Z are expected to compete at the final table, adding star power to the high-profile event.

Details on the guest list remain under wraps, but the tournament will feature a select group of invite-only attendees. The gathering promises to be a glittering affair, combining high stakes with the excitement of a new sports betting venue.

Last year, REFORM Alliance successfully hosted its first-ever Casino Night event at Atlantic City’s Ocean Casino Resort, raising an impressive $24 million for criminal justice reform. The invite-only, black-tie event featured notable figures such as Michael Rubin, Meek Mill, Shawn “JAY-Z” Carter, and Kevin Hart, who emceed the evening. The event aimed to support REFORM Alliance’s mission to transform the nation’s supervision system for the millions on probation or parole, offering them employment and well-being instead of a return to prison.

Over 250 VIPs gathered in Atlantic City to hear about REFORM’s positive impact on communities since its inception over four years ago. Attendees also witnessed personal stories shared by individuals affected by the flawed probation and parole policies and those who have benefited from the bipartisan laws passed by REFORM.

The evening featured a blackjack tournament, a dinner program, and a live auction. REFORM Alliance founding members and prominent guests like Tom Brady, Kim Kardashian, Travis Scott, and Matthew McConaughey participated in the festivities.

During the dinner program, REFORM’s CEO Robert Rooks and Chief Advocacy and Operations Officer Jessica Jackson expressed gratitude to the guests for confronting pressing social and economic issues. The organization’s focus on public safety solutions has contributed to the passage of 17 bipartisan bills in 11 states, providing pathways for nearly 700,000 people to transition out of the justice system towards work, well-being, and stability. The organization also organizes job and opportunity fairs and grants to organizations offering solutions for those impacted by the criminal justice and supervision system.

A live auction featuring items donated by Tom Brady, George Condo, Rashid Johnson, and Jay-Z raised $7.8 million. Afterward, guests enjoyed an after-party with surprise performances by Travis Scott, Meek Mill, Lil Baby, and more.

His 2013 hit “Type of Way” has re-entered the US Top Songs chart at #65, amassing over 1.3 million views. Rich Homie Quan has also re-entered the US Top Artists chart at #83, as listeners reflect on his impact on hip-hop. Known for his distinctive style and memorable tracks, the rapper’s music continues to resonate, reminding fans of his influence on the genre.

The family of Rich Homie Quan, born Dequantes Devontay Lamar, has released an official statement to The Source on his passing:

On Thursday, September 5, 2024 the Lamar family lost our beloved son, brother, father and friend. Known to the world as Rich Homie Quan, Dequantes Devontay Lamar was a proud native of the great city of Atlanta, Georgia and represented for the A as he and his music traveled across this globe. While he leaves us with an undeniable hole in our hearts, we are comforted by knowing his music and triumphant spirit lives on. 

Quan’s legacy will forever be cemented as a soundtrack to our lives. And for this, we are grateful.

Hip-hop continues to reel from Rich Homie Quan’s sudden death. While attending the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Power Players celebration, Offset delivered a message to RHQ’s family: “I wish you guys some type of prosperity, some type of overcoming of it.”

He added, “Shoutout to Rich Homie Quan, that’s a Day 1 artist that we all came up in the same lab, same kitchen, trying to make it happen. That’s a tragic thing in hip-hop. RIP to you and bless your family.”

Rich Homie Quan, born Dequantes Devontay Lamar, is well-known among fans for his melodic trap flow and rose to fame for his catchy songs, including the number-one hits “Type of Way” and “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh).” Rich Homie Quan was also a member of Rich Gang alongside Young Thug and Birdman, spawning the Rich Gang: Tha Tour Pt. 1.

In 2022, Rich Homie Quan announced a partnership with Venice Music, a cutting-edge music and technology firm created by Troy Carter and Suzy Ryoo. Under his new label Rich Homie Entertainment, which will be serviced by Venice Music, Rich Homie Quan was set to independently release music.

The special will celebrate the life and career of the EGOT-winning actor, featuring archival footage and never-before-seen interviews from various stages of his remarkable journey.

Entertainment Tonight was present on the set of many of Jones’ most significant projects and captured unique moments that will be showcased in the special. Deadline reveals, highlights include his unforgettable voice work as Darth Vader in Star Wars and Mufasa in The Lion King. The tribute will also reflect on his profound impact on Broadway and Hollywood, featuring new interviews with colleagues and friends who were part of his storied career.

An encore presentation of James Earl Jones: Life and Legacy will air on Sunday, Sept. 15, at noon ET/PT on BET.
