Firefly Festival’s 2021 Lineup Includes Billie Eilish, The Killers, Tame Impala, And Lizzo

Festival season is upon us once more, last year’s barren lineups, canceled shows, and quarantine protocols be damned. Now that vaccination is a real option, festivals have slowly but surely begun announcing their lineups, and Delaware’s Firefly Festival joined the fray today. Their four main headliners are no surprise to those who have been following the artists making waves on 2021 setlist: Billie Eilish, The Killers, Tame Impala and Lizzo will hold down the four top spots. And you know what else is great about that lineup, aside from the fact that all four artists make incredible music? That it’s a 50/50 headliner setup with two bands anchored by men, and two women holding their own, too.

The discussion about how male-dominated festival bookings have been has been going on for years, so it’s nice to see that some events took the time off last year to make sure they come back with a bit of gender equity on the docket. Check out the album poster below, along with a list of every artist booked for the event in alphabetical order. And before you ask, yes, Phoebe Bridgers is going to be there. The event kicks off on Thursday, September 23, 2021 and runs through Sunday, September 26, 2021 at Delaware’s Woodlands.

Gillie Da Kid Calls Jay-Z’s “Sorry Not Sorry” Bars “Corny As Sh*t”

This week’s No. 1 spot was dusted off in preparation for DJ Khaled to sit pretty at the top. The megaproducer called together some of the hottest artists in Pop, R&B, and Hip Hop in order to deliver a star-studded project slated for high streaming numbers. Since its release, Khaled Khaled music videos have taken over the internet, and one of the most talked-about collaborations came from former foes Jay-Z and Nas uniting on “Sorry Not Sorry” with James Fauntleroy and Harmonies by the Hive.

While the song has been praised near and far, Gillie Da Kid isn’t a fan of Hov’s bars on the track. Wallo27 recently shared a video of Gillie behind the wheel as the pair engage in a playful fight about new rappers versus the old heads. Wallo267 quipped that Gillie listened to back-to-back Lil Durk records.

“I don’t listen to them old n*ggas. I don’t listen to those dinosaurs no more,” Gillie joked in the clip. Wallo267 told him he didn’t know anything about music. “Oh, you want me to throw Jay on talkin’ about a ‘B and then another B and then a double B.'” Wallo began to laugh. Gillie continued, “‘Can’t forget about the other B.’ That sh*t was corny! That sh*t was corny as sh*t.”

“Don’t give a f*ck what none of these n*ggas say. I ain’t throwin’ that sh*t on,” Gillie added before once again mocking Jay-Z’s “Sorry Not Sorry” delivery. Check out the post below along with the music video for DJ Khaled’s “Sorry Not Sorry” featuring Jay-Z, Nas, James Fauntleroy, and Harmonies by the Hive.

Swizz Beatz Calls Kanye West’s Addition To DMX Memorial A “Genuine Act Of Love”

Prior to DMX being laid to rest, reports surfaced the Swizz Beatz wanted Kanye West to attend the service. The world hasn’t heard much from West in recent months as the award-winning artist is currently enduring a highly-publicized divorce from Kim Kardashian. As the headlines take over media outlets worldwide, Ye has reportedly been hunkered down and enjoying his privacy.

However, the call for Ye to help celebrate DMX and attend his homegoing was answered. The memorial service aired in real-time online and the fans that tuned in were able to catch West’s Sunday Service Choir give moving performances. When asked about his friend’s participation, Swizz insisted that Kanye delivered from a pure heart.

“Very short notice. It was a very, very genuine act of love and support from Ye. It wasn’t much talking, it wasn’t no negotiating. It was, X Showed up to his Sunday Service and was a big fan of it and so, I knew this was something X would want to do, and Kanye was more than happy to facilitate his expertise and his choir.”

Getting everything together proved to be difficult and Swizz revealed that the stage was still being erected immediately before cameras began rolling. “It was last minute, people don’t know what we was dealing with behind the scenes,” he added. “That’s why it wasn’t televised when people got in there because the stage was still being built because everything was just so last minute.”

Lil Nas X Remembers ‘Crying Like A Crazy Person’ After ‘Holiday’ Wasn’t The Hit He Thought It Would Be

Lil Nas X has had almost unparalleled success during his short time in the music industry, but that doesn’t mean the young rapper is immune to moments of doubt and disappointment. In a recent cover story with British GQ, Nas remembered a low point after last year’s single “Holiday” didn’t pan out like he thought it would. In fact, he was so upset, Nas told GQ he booked a hotel room just to process his sadness, even breaking down into tears over his feelings.

“I was seeing some nice things,” he told GQ. “But I was seeing a lot of f*cking negativity too. And I was like, ‘Oh sh*t. This is not even in the top 200. Oh god. What the f*ck did I do wrong?”

He even went so far as to tell his manager to cancel an episode of Holiday Plays, a Christmas special starring Miley Cyrus that was scheduled for rehearsals the next day.

“I told my manager, ‘I don’t want to do it,” he continued. “‘Let’s cancel it. Let’s get rid of it. There’s no point. Nobody’s really f*cking with this song.’ I was crying. I was upset with myself. I felt like I’d… failed myself, almost. I was crying like a crazy person. You know one of those times where you cry so hard your f*ckin head hurts? It was like that.”

Little did he know the success of “Montero” was just around the corner, even if more drama was coming there, too, eventually. The life of a pop star/rapper is never fully calm I guess. And even if he was initially a little jealous that Billie Eilish won a Grammy over him, he’s also put that to rest. It’s the growth that’s the best!

Skrillex, Starrah And Four Tet Are Unstoppable On The Glitchy ‘Butterflies’

If you’re the kind of listener who checks liner notes and obsessively follows songwriters, then it won’t surprise you that massive producers like Skrillex and Four Tet want to work with Starrah on a new track. The songwriter is best known for working with the likes of Travis Scott (though there was a little bit of drama there) and Diplo, along with massive artists like Katy Perry, Drake, The Weeknd, and Rihanna, so it makes sense that returning with his first new music since 2019, Skrillex is spotlighting his collaboration with Starrah.

The new track “Butterflies” is a glitchy track stippled with her vocals, and might signal the beginning of a new era for the super producer. And even as he’s grown to become one of the biggest names in electronic music, the artist born Sonny Moore never forgot his roots, either. Back in 2018 he even went so far as to reunite with his initial emo band, First To Last, releasing a new song with them and proving that even after all the money and the fame, he’s still true to his roots.

Check out the new collaboration above and look for more new music coming from Skrillex soon, this might be the start of a new album cycle. Hey, if festival season is coming back, then maybe Skrillex is, too.

JT Imagines Her “Future Kids” With Lil Uzi Vert

A preview of their Arena HOMME+ cover caused a bit of backlash and now the full feature with Lil Uzi Vert and JT has been released. The happy couple has been sharing all of their lovey-dovey moments on social media after keeping their romance under wraps. JT has recently come forward to discuss how Uzi spoiled her upon her release from prison and both she and Uzi have verbally battled it out with naysayers and critics online.

Following the release of their leaked Arena HOMME+ photoshoot, JT went to social media war with Uzi’s ex-girlfriend Brittany Byrd, and as the dust has settled on their back-and-forth, the rapper is back to boasting about her beau.

The City Girls star uploaded a photo from their shoot and wrote over the image, “4 lifers! [heart eyes emoji].” JT added, “Fun fact: this was his cover & he included me. Thanks for having me baby can’t wait until the official release our future kids got proof we so cool! [heart eyes emoji].” The mention of potential JT-Uzi babies has sent fans into a tizzy but it seems the rappers are more focused on their careers than parenthood.

Talib Kweli Targets Noname After She Defends Woman He’s Accused Of Harassing

A controversy that began back in July 2020 continues to rear its ugly head. It was then that a random conversation on Twitter caught Talib Kweli’s attention after a woman named Maya Moody remarked that he, Killer Mike, 2 Chainz, Chance The Rapper, and other notable artists have married light-skinned women, suggesting there is colorism among rappers. Kweli took offense and ever since that moment, he’s been involved in an ongoing backlash against Moody. His fans have doxxed her personal information, the rapper has mentioned her on podcasts and interviews repeatedly, and Moody has shared that she lives in fear because she just wants it all to end.

Noname came forward to speak against Kweli’s response to Moody, along with several other women, and recently, Kweli fired off a response. “Last year the rapper No Name compared me to Tory Lanez because she took the word of some stranger on the internet that I ‘harass black women nonstop,” he wrote.

“No Name is far from the only prominent person who fell for this. Because I defended myself, my family and other hiphop artists families, I was compared to someone who allegedly shot a black woman,” Kweli continued. “I’ve never shot anyone. This morning, I was compared to R Kelly because of this. I’ve never raped anyone. But after seeing that R Kelly comparison, I thought, what would a person have to ignore and forget about me to believe that I was capable of such behavior? So many people in this culture were willing to completely throw me away on the lies of a stranger they never met, a stranger that has no reputation for adding anything at all to this culture.”

Kweli spoke about this generation chasing “internet clout” in an attempt to seem “more ‘woke’ than the next man.” A social media user made Noname aware of Talib Kweli’s mention and she replied, “Lmao this is a lie. he was harassing a black woman online for like 3 weeks and myself and other women called that sh*t out. no one called him tory lanez. why are so many men this unwell ?”

Kweli’s ongoing comments and tweets to and about Moody resulted in Twitter banning his account for harassment. Moody has sought legal counsel but shared last month that her lawyer told her there isn’t much she can do. She claims, “Talib Kweli is still lying on, slandering and harassing me for talking about colorism. He has been since July 10, 2020. He HAS NOT STOPPED.” Check it out below.

Pooh Shiesty Gets Called Out By NBA YoungBoy’s Ex Jania Meshell Over DMs

It’s turning into a he-said-she-said over on Instagram and it’s not looking good for Pooh Shiesty. The rapper has been on a meteoric climb with the success of his “Back in Blood” hit, but on Monday (May 10), he found himself engaged in an online squabble regarding his communication with Jania Meshell, ex-girlfriend to NBA YoungBoy who also shares a daughter with the incarcerated rapper. Recently, Jania has been snapped with her new beau, boxer Devin Haney, but it looks like things have changed.

Jania suggested on her Instagram Story that her relationship with Devin Haney had come to an end because she declared that she was “Single 4Life.” She added, “I promise this time.” After TheShadeRoom reposted a screenshot of Jania’s Story, Pooh Shiesty hopped in the comments and wrote, “She was in my dm.”

This caused Jania to resurrect that said DM and she asserted that he misrepresented their exchange. Jania posted a screenshot of her DM with Shiesty, but it looks as if it was brief and began when she issued a reply to his Instagram Story. “Ohh this the DM you referring to ?” she wrote over the image. “8 months ago ?”

Jania covered up whatever was said in the DMs, but people are already assuming the conversation. On her Instagram page, she continued the conversation and shared a video where she was on Livestream speaking about men who approach her because the father of her child is YoungBoy. She added that men who she never hooked up with or talked to romantically are trying to make her look bad. Meanwhile, Devin Haney decided to get himself involved by posting on his Story, as well.

“Should’ve known she was a bird when she asked me to b her boyfriend first [crying laughing emoji][face palm emoji][clown emoji].” Check it all out below.

Bobby Valentino Dragged For Comments About Naked “B*tches” On Social Media

A personal take on women sharing thirst traps on social media has turned Bobby Valentino into a meme. It’s a common daily occurrence to see women share photos of themselves in lingerie, bikinis, or whatever shows off their *ahem* assets, and while the “likes” and compliments pour in by the tens of thousands for some ladies, not everyone approves of the look.

Bobby Valentino took to his Instagram Story to drop a thought or two about the topic, joking that he can’t imagine what some women look like covered up.

You b*tches be naked so much on this app I be wondering how y’all look in clothes [crying laughing emojis],” the singer wrote. “Like sis might be cute in a turtle neck [crying laughing emojis].” Soon, Bobby V was hit with a slew of responses in objection to his comments and he returned with a video where he questioned why the public cared about his opinion so much.

“If I’m so washed up and lame, why do y’all care so much about what I do?” Bobby asked. “I don’t understand that. Somebody that’s lame and washed up. I wouldn’t even be checkin’ for him like that. I’m still tryin’ to understand that, too.” Still, the internet was unrelenting. Check out Bobby V, along with a few reactions, below.
