CJ Recruits French Montana And Rowdy Rebel For His NYC Remix Of ‘Whoopty’

Staten Island rapper CJ has a bonafide hit on his hands with his Bollywood-sampling single “Whoopty,” tightening drill’s stranglehold on the New York rap scene. Now, he looks to further ingratiate himself with the Big Apple’s rap fans by giving them a remix of the song just for them. The “Whoopty NYC Remix” features a pair of Empire State stalwarts in the Bronx-bred, underrated hitmaker French Montana and the recently-released rabble-rouser Rowdy Rebel.

Featuring a slightly re-worked sample, the remix sees the three rappers delivering updated verses boasting of their money, fame, and respect in the rap game. When the original came out, I was struck by how similar to French Montana I thought newcomer CJ sounded; on the remix, that comparison is heightened and enhanced, but it also shows just how versatile both rappers really are to not completely step on each other’s toes (the effect is similar to when Ghostface did a song with Action Bronson, and suddenly everything just clicked for the younger rapper).

Meanwhile, Rowdy Rebel’s comeback campaign appears to be proceeding swimmingly. After surviving a six-year bid, he’s returned with a more polished flow and gameness to take on any and all new musical trends, unwilling to become the out-of-touch oldhead that laments how much things have changed. It’s a good look for him and his feature has the added benefit of a cross-co-sign effect for CJ; the younger rapper gets the approval of older fans while the older rapper gets to stay cool in the younger generation’s eyes. It’s a win-win and to be honest, another collaboration wouldn’t go amiss.

Guapdad 4000’s Tender ‘Chicken Adobo’ Video Hides A Dark Secret

After weeks of a clever rollout, Guapdad 4000 has released his Illmind-produced album, 1176. The project, which finds Guapdad reflecting on his past in West Oakland, also focuses at times on his Filipino heritage — notably on the song “Chicken Adobo,” which references a traditional dish considered a trademark of the island nation. Today, he released a tender video to accompany the song, which displays both the sincerity at its heart and Guapdad’s wicked sense of humor.

Opening with shots of a fictional comic book called Scamboy, the video follows its pretty female lead as the character comes to life and draws her into the book’s pages. Scamboy — Guapdad — and the video lead embark on a romantic tour of a tropical island which includes four-wheeling and stopping off at a food truck to purchase two plates of the titular dish. However, the song’s heartfelt chorus gets a devilish twist at the end, courtesy of Guapdad’s tongue-in-cheek love for double meanings.

Guapdad’s month-long rollout for 1176 also included music videos for “How Many,” the Alice Deejay-sampling lead single, and “She Wanna,” a freestyled homage to the Yin Yang Twins’ “Wait” featuring fellow Bay Area party animal P-Lo.

Pooh Shiesty & Gucic Mane’s “Ugly” Gets A New Video

Pooh Shiesty is easily one of the year’s breakout stars, and the 1017 rapper’s “Back In Blood” single continues to ring off. Having recently delivered his new mixtape Shiesty Seasona project that features Lil Durk, Gucci Mane, 21 Savage, and more, the rapper has officially come through with a brand new music video for “Ugly.”

Bringing Pooh’s Guwop collaboration to life is director Rendell Smith, who ably captures the track’s ominous and foreboding vibe. Surrounded by a gang of gun-toting women, Shiesty holds it down with calculated menace. He’s swiftly joined by his label boss Gucci Mane, who posts up in a police lineup as he sneers confrontational bars. It’s the perfect representation of their chemistry, highlighting their shared appreciation for the streets — it’s part of what made 1017 such an appropriate home for Shiesty, who captures some of that vintage Gucci Mane spirit in his own music.

Deshaun Watson Alleged Texts Show QB Apologizing To Massage Therapist

Deshaun Watson is being sued by three women in connection with alleged sexual assaults. The three women are massage therapists who say Watson sought out their services on social media. Each woman claims that during the massage, Watson began to get sexually aggressive and would even force them to engage in oral sex. These allegations are being brought to light by lawyer Tony Buzbee, who claims even more allegations are on the horizon.

According to TMZ, Buzbee has taken things one step further as he has revealed an alleged text message sent by Watson to one of the women. In the text, Watson apologizes for his behavior and making the woman feel uncomfortable. He doesn’t specify what the behavior was, but one could certainly assume what the message implies.

Jackboy & Russ Re-Up On “Own My Masters”

If you’re releasing a song called “Own My Masters”, it would be a foolish move to not reach out to Russ to guest-star on the track. The poster child for doing everything himself, remaining independent, and owning all of his masters, Russ has preached to up-and-coming artists to keep ownership of their music for years. When Florida rapper Jackboy released his single “Own My Masters” as part of his 2020 album Love Me While I’m Here, Russ must have heard the track and wanted to lay down some of his sauce, prompting the official re-release of the cut this week.

Jackboy has come through once again, continuing to release a quality stream of new music. “Own My Masters” now includes a verse from Russ, marking an unexpected collaboration but a great one nonetheless. Jackboy keeps his stellar hook and verse on the song before Russ brings a different flow to the second verse.

If you loved the first version, wait until you hear this one. Check it out below.

Quotable Lyrics:

These rappers hardly go
I feed my dreams and I starve these hoes
I ain’t sorry, though
Workers hatin’ on the boss, I don’t f*ck with y’all either
Say it’s lonely at the top, went and bought a two-seater
I might say what Prince told Nas, I ain’t trying to do features if you don’t own your masters

Price & Hit-Boy Connect On New Single “Bad Dreams”

It’s no secret that Hit-Boy has been putting in work behind the boards — case in point, the man recently took home a Grammy award for his work on Nas’ King’s Disease.  Today, Hit connects with Audio Push alumni Price for the release of “Bad Dreams,” blessing his frequent collaborator with an up-tempo banger over which the emcee proceeds to put in work. Though Hit-Boy himself is no stranger to spitting bars, Price takes the spotlight on this go-around, dexterously navigating Hit’s spooky synthesizers.

“Haters see, when you see Price, I was really thugging when the streetlights came on,” he raps. “Four keys, beep-beep, I’m on / pull out the Lil Jon, skeet skeet, I’m gone.” The flexes continue throughout the track, and while it might have benefitted from an additional verse from Hit-Boy, Price is certainly capable of holding attention in his own right. Check it out for yourself now, and look for more music from the California rapper.

President Biden Fires Staffers Who Smoke Weed

President Joe Biden has been wishy-washy regarding his stance on the federal legalization of marijuana for the last several years but, this week, his actions spoke louder than his words when multiple White House staffers reported that they were asked to resign or were demoted because of their past marijuana use.

According to claims being made about Biden’s administration, a number of White House staffers were fired or demoted after admitting to previous marijuana usage during their background checks, despite being informed that it wouldn’t pose an issue. According to the reports, the firings even affected staffers who live in the fourteen states where weed has been legalized.

Biden’s staff was reportedly asked to disclose their personal history with marijuana use during their background checks, but they were told that the information would be “overlooked”. With Friday’s news that the staffers were actually asked to resign, that much was obviously untrue. White House Director of Management and Administration Anne Filipic reportedly called staffers and asked those who admitted to weed use to resign or be placed in a remote work program.

“This decision was made following intensive consultation with career security officials and will effectively protect our national security while modernizing policies to ensure that talented and otherwise well-qualified applicants with limited marijuana use will not be barred from serving the American people,” said a White House statement on the matter.

Aesop Rock Cheers On A Fictional Frog In “Long Legged Larry”

Last November, veteran underground Hip-Hop artist Aesop Rock unleashed the impressive 21-track project Spirit World Field Guide, and now, for his first single since the release of his critically acclaimed album, he has opted to share a song about a frog. Where the inspiration stems from is yet to be revealed, but “Long Legged Larry” arrives a day prior to National Frog Day and focuses on a legendary frog named Larry, whose jumping ability makes him a celebrity and hero to the people that live near to him.

Accompanying the single is a silly stop motion video that colorfully paints Long Legged Larry’s wild adventures. The video was brought to life by Rob Shaw, and interestingly enough, Larry’s appearance was visualized by a draftsman and renowned amphibian consultant named Jeremy Fish. With everyone’s contributions combined, “Long Legged Larry” isn’t just a single, but rather a full-fledged multimedia collaboration.

Aesop Rock’s eccentric new release also comes with a material realization of Long Legged Larry, and fans interested in the collectible bean bag version of Larry can pre-order the toy right now.

What are your thoughts on Aesop Rock’s unconventional new National Frog Day-themed release?

Quotable Lyrics

Larry’s on the case
Jump so high pluck a star out of space
Jump over anything, even Salt Lake
Jump into the mosh pit, jump out of a cake

Kyle Kuzma Trashes MVP Award, Defends LeBron James

Every single year, there is a massive debate surrounding the NBA MVP award. For years now, LeBron James has gone without winning the award, despite consistently being one of the top players in the league, year in and year out. His teammates have taken note of these snubs, including Kyle Kuzma who spoke to ESPN about the MVP award following a win against the Hornets last night. Essentially, Kuzma thinks the whole process is political.

“The NBA MVP is a very political award,” Kuzma said. “Bron should have been the MVP at least eight, nine, 10 times. Everybody knows that.”

LeBron was asked a follow-up about the MVP and as he noted, he does take a lot of stock in the MVP award, and every single year, he hopes to hear his name called. Clearly, LeBron is still looking to win one.

“It is something,” LeBron noted. “…I’m not going to sit here and say it doesn’t mean anything to me… Being in the running, hearing my name with some of the best basketball players in the league this year again, it would mean a lot…it would mean an unbelievable thing for me, especially at this point in my career.”

At this point in the season, there are still a lot of players who are in contention for the award although LeBron is certainly one of them. If he continues his current pace, it will be hard to vote against him.
