Zimbabwe-born, London-based emcee Rhyme Assassin delivers a straight-up banger and connects with bully-rap royalty on his new single, “Run Em Up (Told Ya),” featuring none other than M.O.P. and Ruste Juxx.

The track also boasts production from underground rap luminary The Arcitype, whose menacing beat inspired Rhyme Assassin to reach out to his collaborators on here. “I could only hear M.O.P. on the instrumental,” he says, adding that it didn’t matter how many times he listened to it, because he could only hear the Brownsville bullies on the beat. Then, when he needed a third verse to close it out, he linked with Ruste, who “complemented M.O.P.’s energy and vibes,” Rhyme Assassin says.

“Run Em Up” is an absolute bruiser of a track, with everyone involved nailing the concept of running up on competition. It’s also the second single from Rhyme Assassin’s upcoming debut album, Dedicated to Self, that also features the likes of Ras Kass, Masta Ace, Stic Man (dead prez), Saigon, and Keith Murray. On the boards, you’ll hear beats from Buckwild, Tru Master, and DJ King Flow, among others. And for those just getting familiar with Rhyme Assassin, be sure to check out his previously released mixtapes and compilations, like 2021’s Side Barz.

Jermaine Dupri Blasts “Dangerous” AI Kendrick Lamar Diss Track

Jermaine Dupri has never been one to shy away from airing his opinions on new technology, and more specifically, artificial intelligence. That’s why it doesn’t come as too much of a surprise that the North Carolina-born record exec was quick to jump into the debate about the AI-generated Kendrick Lamar diss track that’s been making its rounds online this week. This track was created by a 23-year-old based in LA, Sy The Rapper, who has no connection to Kendrick, Drake, or anyone else involved in their feud.

While the track’s creator admits that he himself thought it would be unconvincing to listeners, he was quickly proven wrong. The song has gotten a ton of online attention, which prompted him to come forward to clarify that it’s fake. According to Dupri, however, it should have never been created in the first place.

Jermaine Dupri Calls Out 23-Year-Old For Fake Diss Track

Earlier this week, he took to Twitter/X to weigh in on the debacle, claiming that hip-hop is simply no place for antics like this. “This is the d*mbest most irresponsible thing I’ve seen in years,” Dupri replied to Complex‘s story about Sy, How a 23-Year-Old From LA Fooled The Internet With an AI Kendrick Lamar Diss Track. “Hip-hop is too dangerous and Hiphop has always gone against fake sh*t.” Many commenters fully back Dupri’s stance, and think AI-generated tracks using an artist’s likeness is a form of impersonation. Others disagree, and see the fake track as harmless, particularly considering the players involved.

“Yeah this is not cool it’s honestly scary,” one commenter says. “It’s a new era, adapt,” another urges. What do you think of the Kendrick Lamar diss track generated using artificial intelligence? What about Jermaine Dupri’s take on it? Do you agree that it could be dangerous, or is he overreacting? Today In Hip Hop History: The Source Magazine Remembers The Passing Of Gangstarr’s Guru 14 Years Later

guru gangstarr

On July 17, 1961, Keith Edward Elam was born into this world in Roxbury, Massachusetts. Sadly, 14 years ago today the late, great MC Guru lost his battle with melanoma, a form of cancer. April 19, 2010, was a tragic day for Hip Hop heads worldwide because we lost a true emcee and all-around great human being.

Guru started his career off in 1987. He relocated to the Hip Hop mecca New York City, where he founded Gang Starr. In 1989 with three records and no real blip on Hip Hop’s radar Guru switched up producers and began working with DJ Premier. After that, it was a wrap. The duo released its first LP “No More Mr. Nice Guy” with Wild Pitch records and six more critically acclaimed albums followed.

Premier and Guru made for a perfect combination. Guru’s uniquely monotone delivery and storytelling ability, combined with Premier’s punctuating, soulful production inspired some of the dopest verses in Hip Hop history. The Source ranked Guru as the #30 Best Emcee of Our Time.

Guru’s recording career was one of the most fruitful amongst his peers; with six classic albums released by the duo Gang Starr, all of which were praised by critics and beloved by the streets Guru also released 10 albums without Premier. 16 projects from any artist are impressive, and as an emcee, it’s almost unheard of.

Guru and Premier will go down as one of the most prolific duos in Hip Hop history. They have paved the way for the likes of Atmosphere from Minnesota made up of DJ/Producer Ant and emcee Slug. Today in the fifth year of his passing let us celebrate Guru’s contribution to the beautiful art of Hip Hop. Enjoy the video for “Moment Of Truth”, a classic by Gang Starr.

The Brother of Denver Nuggets star Michael Porter Jr. is now sentenced to six years in prison for a fatal DUI. Overall, Coban Porter was found guilty of DUI vehicular homicide after pleading guilty to the charges. Porter entered a plea agreement earlier this year and admitted to the crime of crashing into and killing Kathy Rothman. Additionally, Porter admitted to driving drunk in the early hours of the morning on January 22nd. After running a red light, Porter crashed into the victim’s driver’s side.

As part of his plea deal, Coban Porter will serve six years in prison. He could have served up to eight years, but the judge sentenced him to two different charges that will run concurrently. “You have clearly been called upon, for lack of a better phrase, to make good on this tragedy,” said Denver District Court Judge Ericka Englert, speaking to Coban Porter. “Do what you can to use this opportunity to educate others” about the dangers of driving drunk.” Englert also added that the fact that Coban seems like a good person adds to the tragedy of the case. In their testimony, Coban Porter’s family and friends praised him as a good person and gifted basketball player. Additionally, they described him as a man of real regret, kindness, and compassion.

During his freshman year in 2021–2022, Coban Porter started eight games for the University of Denver basketball team. Coban admitted in his testimony that this wasn’t the first time he had driven drunk. Additionally, he said the crime was not an accident. “All I can really say is ‘I’m sorry,’” Porter said. “I hope that somehow, someway, I’ll be able to make a difference.” Additionally, Jontay Porter, brother of Michal and Coban, was recently banned from the NBA for life for violating the league’s betting policies.

Kevin Gates Rants About Homeless Woman Not Eating Chick-Fil-A Sandwich: Watch

Earlier this week, Kevin Gates’ took to social media to air his frustrations with a homeless woman he ran into on the road. In a clip taken from his Instagram Story, the Louisiana-born performer explains that the woman was holding a sign asking for food, so he decided to order an extra sandwich at Chick-fil-A for her. Upon giving it to the woman, however, she didn’t eat it. Instead, she put it in her bag, leaving Gates annoyed.

“This kinda s**t piss me the f**k off,” he said of the incident. “I had got two sandwiches from Chick-fil-A., I gave this lady one of my sandwiches, right… I reach her this Chick-fil-A sandwich out the window, right. This muthaf**kin b***h done put my Chick-fil-A sandwich in her book sack and put the sign back up there.”

Kevin Gates Thinks Woman Should Have “Ate That B***h Right There”

While it’s certainly possible that the woman was just saving the sandwich for later, Gates didn’t stop there. He went on to suggest that she should have eaten it right in front of him, based on what her sign said. “Now, I thought you said you was hungry, you will work for food,” he explained, looking visibly irritated. “You shoulda ate that b***h right there, you so f**king hungry.”

While it’s unclear exactly what’s got Gates’ in such a bad mood, it’s possible that it could have something to do with all of the online clowning he’s been a victim of as of late. Earlier this month, for example, he debuted a bold Cuban link headband, which raised some eyebrows among social media users, who continue to question his sense of style. What do you think of Kevin Gates getting mad at a homeless woman for not eating the sandwich he gave her? Does he have a right to be upset, or is he just overreacting?
