Coi Leray Talks Rolling Loud & Freestyle Moments, Weighs “Negative Vs Positive”

Despite the chastising, trolling, and teasing, Coi Leray is looking onward and upward. The rapper has repeatedly seen herself become a trending topic as people critique her performances, whether it be on stage at Rolling Loud Miami or on XXL‘s freestyle cypher, but regardless of what others’ opinions are, Leray says she’s focused on staying positive. In a series of tweets, Coi Leray addressed a few of her recent controversies while claiming that they’ve been turned into successful career moments.

“They laughed at my performance just for me to have the best show of my life at the next one,” she tweeted. “Moral of the story kids. Never stop. Keep being f*cking great.

“They made fun of my freestyle , now it’s stuck in everyone heads singing with a smile like ‘we all get money, yeah yeah,” she continued. “They told me to take my dusty braids out. Now we all wearing these braids [pink sparkling heart emoji] negative vs the positive.” Leray added that she’s not the type of person who needs “to talk down the next b*tch” in order to increase her confidence.

“If I ever done it before, forgive me for my bird like behavior.” The rapper told her fans to dismiss the critics and continue to chase after their goals. Check out her tweets below.

Nick Cannon Says Mariah Carey Could Only Do A “Verzuz” With R. Kelly

As Hip Hop is still reeling from the high of seeing The LOX and Dipset on the last Verzuz, conversations have already begun about future appearances. The Breakfast Club has weighed in with their opinions of who should show face on the popular series for over a year, and when Nick Cannon paid them a visit, they questioned the media mogul about who he believes would be able to match the talents of his ex-wife, Mariah Carey.

“Who could go against Mariah? Sh*t, I don’t think—it’s unfortunate, and this is…I don’t even wanna open up this can, but the only person who has the level of talent and hits,” Nick began as Charlamagne continuously interrupted him. The radio host suggested Whitney Houston, but Cannon disagreed.

“‘Cause Mariah writes, a lot of people gotta understand, Mariah’s a musician. I’m not impressed by people that can perform songs that it took thirty people to make with you,” Cannon added. The hosts argued that statement negated artists like Michael Jackson, Beyoncé, and Rihanna. Cannon stuck to his guns and said that those who are considered to be the greatest are those who can lock themselves in a room and come up with a hit on their own.

“The only person in this day and age that could have gone against Mariah Carey because she writes all of her songs, she actually produces all of her songs, she puts the songs together and performs them at a high level…R. Kelly.” Cannon continued to boast about his ex-wife’s talents and said even a Verzuz with Mariah and Janet Jackson would be “fire,” but he doesn’t believe there are many artists who could hold a torch to the mother of his twins, Monroe and Morrocan.

Quentin Tarantino Never Gave His Mom Money Because She Mocked His Movie-Making Dreams

He’s a filmmaker hailed as being one of the best in the business, but not everyone supported Quentin Tarantino’s entertainment aspirations. His films have become classics as Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill, Django Unchained, and several of his other masterpieces continue to be lauded, but recently, Tarantino revealed that when he was younger, his mother mocked his dreams.

The Oscar-winning filmmaker visited The Moment podcast and spoke about his mother Connie Zastoupil telling him at 12-years-old that he wouldn’t make it in the industry.

“My mom was b*tching at me about [writing screenplays],” the 58-year-old shared. “And then in the middle of her little tirade, she said, ‘Oh, and by the way, this little writing career’ — with the finger quotes and everything — ‘This little writing career that you’re doing? That sh*t is over.'” It was then that he made her a promise. “I go, ‘OK lady, when I become a successful writer, you will never see one penny from my success. There will be no house for you. There’s no vacation for you, no Elvis Cadillac for mommy. You get nothing. Because you said that.’”

Tarantino stuck to his guns and all these years later, he has never given his mother anything aside from money to help her out of a “jam with the IRS.” He added, “There are consequences for your words as you deal with your children… Remember there are consequences for your sarcastic tone about what’s meaningful to them.”

We often see rappers going the extra mile for their loved ones, but could you do this with your parents or guardians if they didn’t encourage your dreams? Listen to Quentin Tarantino on The Moment below.

Webbie Concert Shooting Leaves One Dead, One Injured: Report

Ever since quarantine restrictions were lifted and outside opened up for concerts and public gatherings, the U.S. has seen an increase in violence. The latest tragedy to occur took place in Lafayette, Louisiana over the weekend following a concert featuring Baton Rouge rapper Webbie. According to several reports, Webbie performed at The District nightclub without incident, but as patrons were gathered outside, an argument erupted between two groups.

Details regarding what specifically set off the conflict are unclear, but police claimed that the two parties began shooting. Over 100 bullets and casings were located at the scene.

The Acadiana Advocate reported that an officer at the scene attempted to approach one of the groups they believed were involved before being shot at. The officer did return fire and wasn’t injured in the exchange. However, a woman was hurt and suffered non-life-threatening injuries while a man was shot and killed. Police haven’t arrested any suspects and no persons of interest have been named at the time of this publication.

Approximately 20 cars remained in the parking lot and many of the vehicles were struck in the crossfire. “There were several parties shooting at each other across the parking lot,” spokesperson Trooper Thomas Gossen said. “There was an active shooting going on before the officer basically engaged them. The whole parking lot is a crime scene.”

The investigation is ongoing and police are asking the public for helping in this case. This isn’t the first instance of a shooting at a Webbie concert ad the rapper has yet to address the tragedy.

“I’ll fight any rapper in the game in a boxing match Boxing glove,” Soulja tweeted yesterday (August 8). Fans quickly responded with who they’d like to see him fight, but Jxmmi answered the call. “Let’s go run it,” he replied. Rae Sremmurd’s Twitter account jumped in to stir the pot by tweeting, “@souljaboy x @Jxmmi [eyeball emojis].”

Soulja wasn’t fazed. “I’ll knock yo homeboy out swae,” he added. Jxmmi claimed that a boxing match against Soulja would be “light work” and said he would be the first rapper to take him down. Time will only tell if this materializes in the future, but let us know who you would bet on if Soulja Boy and Slim Jxmmi were to go up against one another in a professional match.
