Spotify Launches 'Abolition X' Podcast Hosted by Vic Mensa, Indigo Mateo, and Richie Reseda

Abolition X, a new podcast from Spotify, will investigate many pathways of abolition and provide a forum for voices at the vanguard of the anti-violence movement.

Vic Mensa and Indigo Mateo, as well as producer, abolitionist-feminist organizer, and former felon Richie Resheda, will host a conversation with special guests and activists including Larry Hoover Jr., Patrisse Cullors, Meek Mill, JT from City Girls, Bobby Shmurda, and more.

The purpose of Abolition X is to help establish a society based on togetherness by replacing a revenge-centered mindset. The show imagines a world where vengeance isn’t justice, where community needs are served and harm is remedied via accountability; it focuses on alternatives to police, jails, and punishment. The hosts will explore the impact of abolition on everything from hip-hop to housing and more throughout the episode.

Richie, Indigo, Vic, and their guest, inmate JJ 88, relate their experiences of how they became abolitionists in the series premiere, recalling the atrocities they witnessed as children that opened their eyes to the concept that punishment does not force people to be accountable.

In addition, the program delves into mental health, which is crucial to how we treat ourselves and one other. Patrisse Cullors, co-founder of Black Lives Matter and author, joins the crew to discuss if investing in mental health can keep our communities safe.

You can hear the first episode below.

Get a Closer Look at Eminem’s Jordan Retro 3 From the Super Bowl

nfl denies

Eminem has been the owner of iconic retro Jordan silhouettes before. The latest is his own Jordan Retro 3, which made its debut on the Super Bowl stage.

The sneaker is reminiscent of the Fire Red 3 but instead of Nike Air or the Jump Man logo on the back, there is a “Hi! My Name Is” nametag. The name etched on the tag is none other than Slim Shady, a call back to his classic single. On the front, Eminem’s “E” logo replaces Jordan’s Jumpman.

This sneaker is likely to be exclusive but if there is release info we will double back to let you know.

Freddie Gibbs Talks About Hilarious Encounter With Don Cheadle at the Super Bowl

[WATCH] Freddie Gibbs Spits NBA Finals Freestyle

There’s a running joke on social media that any bald Black man looks like Freddie Gibbs. Although Gibbs is one of the most notorious people on social media, he rolls with the jokes, usually commenting “F*ck you” with a laughing emoji. Many even tag Freddie Gibbs in pictures of people who resemble him.

During the Super Bowl on Sunday, Freddie was approached by Don Cheadle, who told the Alfredo artist, “people say we look alike.” He later tweeted about the encounter.

“N*gga walked up to me last night and said, “people say we look alike” and it was Don Cheadle. The f*cking goat,” Gibbs tweeted.

Don Cheadle then confirmed Gibbs’ story, saying it indeed happened. “true story. great meeting you, nephew. to be continued,” Cheadle quoted Gibbs tweet.

Fans might have thought their run-in sounded too good to be true. So to confirm, Gibbs manager Ben “Lambo” Lambert then tweeted a picture of Gibbs and Cheadle at the event.

Last year Wale was the first person to compare Gibbs and Cheadle. Gibbs and Wale were taking shots at each other on Twitter when Wale responded to a tweet regarding his Folarin 2 features. Gibbs was one of the people shown in the tweet. “Who the first person in the A row? That’s not don cheadle?” Wale tweeted.

Trey Songz Accuser Claims Anal Rape in $20M Lawsuit

Screen Shot 2022 02 16 at 5.44.40 AM

A recent report from TMZ has confirmed that R&B crooner Trey Songz is being sued by an anonymous woman who claims that Songz raped her back in 2016 and is now seeking a $20 million settlement.

The Jane Doe, who says she had a consensual sexual relationship with Songz before the alleged rape, claims the singer invited her to a house party and admittedly led her upstairs for consensual sex. Jane Doe claims Trey repeatedly asked her if he could “get that a**” as they headed to the bedroom, to which she says she repeatedly told him “no” and to stop asking.

In the suit, Doe claims that Songz’s attitude changed when they entered the room, claiming he threw her to the ground, ripped her clothes off, and forced himself into her anus without her consent. Doe contends that someone entered the room during the alleged incident but says they quickly left the room, and Songz continued raping her.

Doe claims that her only opportunity to escape was after Songz finished raping her, after which she gathered all her clothes except her underwear and ran outside to call an Uber. Her driver allegedly says she was in distress and took her to the hospital, where she claims a sexual assault exam was performed, and the police were summoned.

The suit claims that the exam showed “severe anal tearing that could require surgery” but alleges that she didn’t give Trey’s name to authorities out of fear for her life.

The woman’s attorney, Ariel Mitchell, also represents two women who are suing Trey for other alleged assaults in Miami and New York.

TheSource.com will update this story as details develop.
