Chanel Brand Names Lupita Nyong’o Newest Esteemed Ambassador

Fashion season is in full swing, especially with Paris Fashion Week being a global extravaganza. Now, A-list actor Lupita Nyong’o has been named Chanel’s newest ambassador, as reported exclusively by WWD.

Check this out, the French fashion house made the announcement following the actress’s appearance at its Spring 2025 ready-to-wear show, held at the Grand Palais on the final day of Paris Fashion Week.

When it comes to Chanel’s track record, Nyong’o, 41, joins the ranks of previous esteemed ambassadors, including Whitney Peak, Margot Robbie, Riley Keough, Charlotte Casiraghi, and Kristen Stewart.

While speaking to the Associated Press, the actress expressed her excitement about this new role, stating, “It’s a great honor. Chanel is a legacy brand with a long history. And to be the newest face of it feels monumental. I feel very, very proud and excited to take this new journey with a brand that I think is dynamic and always feminine and regal.”

When reflecting on the influence of fashion, Nyong’o reflected on the impact of fashion icon Bethann Hardison, whose pioneering work for diversity in the industry during the 1960s and 1970s left a lasting impact. Hardison gained recognition after participating in the historic 1973 Battle of Versailles fashion show and became one of the first prominent Black models.

“I would hope that there is a message for little girls,” Nyong’o said. “My work as an actor and as an author, as a podcast maker, and now as a brand ambassador, is to change that by just occupying the space.” She emphasized how representation in these roles can inspire others and reshape perceptions, saying that when someone occupies a space that was once empty, it alters how people see themselves and the world around them.

As for Hollywood, Nyong’o voiced the lead character in The Wild Robot, a DreamWorks Animation feature that premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on Sept. 8, 2024, and was released in U.S. theaters on Sept. 27, 2024.

Summer Walker Hosts Second Annual “Buy Black Women Sh*t” Initiative

The initiative highlights several black-owned businesses in Atlanta offering discounts, exclusive products, and more, all in the name of self-care

Summer Walker (LVRN/Interscope Records) celebrated the upcoming anniversary of her debut mixtape, Last Day of Summer, by giving back to her community with the relaunch of “Buy Black Women Sh*t.” The initiative took place on the actual last day of the Summer season, September 22, and had Summer highlighting a group of Black women-owned businesses that push for self-care in the Atlanta area with an activation that offered fans access to discounts, products, and more.

The initiative was also in partnership with LVRN Cares, the powerhouse label’s philanthropic arm that aims to assist underrepresented communities. Some of the businesses that participated in this year’s event include City Dogz, Lot23 Chandler, The Secret Garden, The Lash Vault, Dope People Meet, Sati Yoga & Wellness, The Lash Vault, Atlanta Curves, and more. The directory for the initiative will be available on Walker’s website until September 22, 2025. Walker first launched the initiative last year on September 22, which is also “Summer Walker Day” in Atlanta.

Last Day of Summer was released in October 2018 and propelled Walker into the spotlight and spawned her multi-platinum single, “Girls Need Love,” and the celebrated remix featuring Drake, which soared to No. 2 on the Hot R&B and entered the top 40 of the Hot 100. She also released the revamped version of Last Day of Summer (Sped-Up) after the viral explosion of her sped-up platinum-certified single “Karma,” which created spikes in her streams, went No. 2 on the Hot R&B and entered the top 40 of the Hot 100.

Nicki Minaj and Husband Kenneth Petty Face Legal Action Over Unpaid $500K Judgment to German Security Guard

Rapper Nicki Minaj and her husband, Kenneth “Zoo” Petty, are facing escalating legal trouble after refusing to pay a $500,000 judgment awarded to a German security guard who claims Petty assaulted him backstage at one of Minaj’s concerts. The incident, which occurred in 2019 during Minaj’s show in Frankfurt, Germany, has now led the victim, Thomas Weidenmuller, to take legal steps to enforce the payment.

According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE, Weidenmuller filed a memo of costs after judgment and a writ of execution against Minaj and Petty earlier this month. The writ, submitted on September 6 and 13, demands $526,110.74, which includes the original judgment plus interest and legal fees.

Weidenmuller, who was allegedly sucker-punched by Petty backstage, is seeking to enforce the judgment through the writ of execution, which would allow law enforcement to seize and sell Minaj and Petty’s non-exempt property in order to cover the debt. This legal measure is typically used when defendants fail to pay a court-ordered sum, giving plaintiffs the right to recover the owed amount through the sale of assets.

The altercation in question dates back to March when a court ordered Minaj and Petty to pay $500,000 in damages after the assault. Despite the ruling, the couple has reportedly refused to pay, prompting Weidenmuller’s latest legal actions.

As of now, Minaj’s legal team has not responded to requests for comment, and it remains unclear how the couple plans to handle the enforcement of the judgment. If they continue to refuse payment, the court could authorize law enforcement to move forward with asset seizure to satisfy the debt.
