Travis Scott Shared The First Trailer From His Eye-Popping, Harmony Korine-Directed Film, ‘Aggro Dr1ft’

Travis Scott’s music is defined by its unconventional, oftentimes extremely warped aesthetic sensibilities. So, when Travis announced his new indie film Aggro Dr1ft, it made perfect sense that the film was directed by Harmony Korine, whose transgressive, experimental style is a fitting match. While the film was screened for critics at a few film festivals, it’ll soon come to a thea– ummm, strip club near you. Today, they offered the first look at the film for the public via a trailer showing off its eye-popping, borderline headache-inducing visuals.

The film, produced by Korine’s own EDGLRD studios (I wish I was making that up), follow’s the self-proclaimed “world’s greatest assassin” and is shot entirely in false-color infrared. The result is a bit like watching someone play a Call Of Duty game through one of those helmets from the Predator films. In other words, it’s perfect for a Travis Scott film directed by the guy who made Gummo and Spring Breakers. The film is their second collaboration after Circus Maximus, which accompanied the rollout for Travis’ new album Utopia.

If that sounds like your cup of tea, I’ve got good news and bad news, depending on a few factors. The film will basically only screen at Los Angeles strip club Crazy Girls on February 7 and 8, along with an accompanying DJ performance by Korine himself and sample wiz producer AraabMuzik. You can get tickets here or here.

Travis Scott Takes Center Stage In Exhilarating “Aggro Dr1ft” Trailer: Watch

A new trailer for Harmony Korine’s latest film Aggro Dr1ft has arrived, per the filmmaker’s multimedia design collective Edglrd. The film, starring Spanish actor Jordi Mollà and hip-hop mainstay Travis Scott, first premiered at the 2023 Venice Film Festival. Aggro Dr1ft is scheduled to start its screening tour at LA strip club Crazy Girl in February. From there, “Edglrd will bring the Aggro Dr1ft viewing experience to unconventional venues across the country with additional music acts to be announced in the coming weeks,” according to a press release. Korine, as well as the film’s composer AraabMuzik, will reportedly perform at the screenings.

“Breaking away from the traditional parameters of cinema, Aggro Dr1ft explores the onslaught of digital ephemera and interrogates modern life through the vernacular of video games. Shot entirely through an infrared lens, the film follows a Miami Beach hitman as he embarks on the relentless pursuit of his next target,” a synopsis reads.

Edglrd Unveils New Aggro Dr1ft Trailer

This isn’t the first time Korine has teamed up with Travis Scott, however. He also appeared in the performer’s video for “Last Time” with Gucci Mane back in 2016. He then contributed artwork to Scott’s 2019 collab compilation album JackBoys, which featured the likes of Young Thug, Don Toliver, Quavo, Offset, and more. Korine also worked with Scott on his self-directed Circus Maximus film in collaboration with Gaspar Noé, Nicolas Winding Refn, Valdimar Jóhannsson, and Kahlil Joseph.

“The distribution of Aggro Dr1ft goes beyond the limitations of the outdated moviegoing experience,” Eric Kohn, Edglrd’s Head of Development and Strategy says of the film. “You don’t just watch Aggro Dr1ft. You step into a new world, and these events will allow audiences to immerse themselves in it.” What do you think of the new trailer for Harmony Korine’s film Aggro Dr1ft? When Does Travis Scott & Harmony Korine’s ‘AGGRO DR1FT’ Come Out?

Months after Harmony Korine’s AGGRO DR1FT movie, featuring Travis Scott, ran on the festival circuit, it seems more fans will finally get to see it — and in a very unique, but fitting location. The film, which was shot in infrared, centers around an assassin in Miami who is pursuing a final boss target of sorts. However, he is also torn between his career versus his family.

Scott’s character appears along the way of his journey.

Here’s what to know about when the movie will be available.

When Does Travis Scott & Harmony Korine’s ‘AGGRO DR1FT’ Come Out?

According to Variety, the design collective EDGLRD will be touring and allowing people to experience AGGRO DR1FT in different venues. The first stop will be at the Los Angeles strip club, Crazy Girls, on February 7 and 8.

There will also reportedly be live DJ sets, including performances from Korine and the movie’s composer, Araabmuzik. More performers are set to be announced later, so Scott very well could pop up too.

“The distribution of AGGRO DR1FT goes beyond the limitations of the outdated moviegoing experience,” EDGLRD’s head of film strategy and development, Eric Kohn, told the outlet in a statement. “You don’t just watch AGGRO DR1FT — you step into a new world, and these events will allow audiences to immerse themselves in it.”

Additional information about the dates and venues for other AGGRO DR1FT screenings should be revealed soon.

Harmony Korine’s movie Aggro Dr1ft screened at some film festivals in 2023, and it’s notable for a handful of reasons. There’s the fact that it stars Travis Scott (and Jordi Mollà). There’s the fact that it was filmed entirely in infrared. There’s the fact that most critics didn’t care for it, as the film currently has a score of 38 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

Now, the movie’s peculiar legacy continues: Korine is set to host a series of showings for the movie in 2024, and the first of them will go down on February 7 at Crazy Girls, a strip club in Los Angeles (as Variety reports). The tour is presented by multimedia design collective EDGLRD and will hit other “unconventional” venues following Crazy Girls.

EDGLRD head of film strategy and development Eric Kohn said in a statement, “The distribution of Aggro Dr1ft goes beyond the limitations of the outdated moviegoing experience. You don’t just watch Aggro Dr1ft — you step into a new world, and these events will allow audiences to immerse themselves in it.”

At each screening, the film will be accompanied by backdrops featuring visuals from EDGLRD, as well as musical performances by Korine and Aggro Dr1ft composer Araabmuzik.

In a not particularly laudatory review of the movie, Vulture‘s Bilge Ebiri wrote, “I don’t get the sense that anyone involved in Aggro Dr1ft has ever had a normal interaction with anyone, which probably makes it hard to find things for these characters to do,” and, “Maybe the most troubling thing about this film is the gnawing sense one gets that nobody involved with it cared all that much about what was actually on screen. They’re in love with the idea more than the execution.”

Korine himself previously said of the film, “I am excited. I have never made anything like it. I was trying not to make a movie. I don’t know if it will be a scandal, but it will be its own statement.”

Travis Scott’s New Movie “Aggro Dr1ft”: Everything We Know

Travis Scott made his grand return with the release of his fourth studio album, Utopia last month. Utopia was a star-studded event that made for the biggest hip hop release of the year so far. Riding the momentum of his latest album, Scott also announced tour dates for North American shows. He gave fans a teaser of his upcoming tour when Drake brought him out as a special guest during his Vancouver concert, performing album highlight “Meltdown” for the first time. In addition to promoting Utopia, Travis Scott is expanding his repertoire with an upcoming film, titled Aggro Dr1ft

Harmony Korine, known for films like Spring Breakers and most recently, Travis Scott’s Circus Maximus, serves as the movie’s director. Circus Maximus brought Korine into Scott’s Utopia while this upcoming collaboration appears to see Scott going into Korine’s artistic world. As we await the film’s release, here is everything we know about Aggro Dr1ft.

Produced by Iconoclast and EDGLRD, Aggro Dr1ft is an experimental action movie filmed entirely with infrared photography, providing a unique aesthetic, per the Toronto International Film Festival. The 80-minute long movie “orbits around a melancholic assassin named BO as he prepares to vanquish a demonic crime lord in a Floridian realm of vivid pinks, blazing yellows, and deep purples,” according to the Toronto Film Festival. Aggro Dr1ft takes place in Miami and “aesthetically recalls the perverse spheres of crime-ridden video games like Grand Theft Auto.”

The Canadian film festival asserts that the movie’s plot is very minimal, emphasizing its unique visual stylings. An experimental endeavor, Korine stated at the Locarno Film Festival that he has “never made anything like it” before. Travis Scott’s role in the film is described as “a literal snaked-tongued militia leader.”

In addition to Travis Scott’s appearance, Spanish actor and filmmaker Jordi Mollà will star as BO. The film’s description states that Mollà’s role is “haunted by the spectre of an enormous computer-generated demon,” giving viewers an idea of what to expect.

Another exciting detail about Aggro Dr1ft is that Araabmuzik, the hip-hop and electronic producer known for his MPC skills and collaborations with The Diplomats, A$AP Rocky, and Cardi B, will score the soundtrack. The film’s music will reportedly lean more towards the Rhode Island producer’s electronic side.

Travis Scott A24 Film Hits Massive Wall

Travis Scott is gearing up for a massive moment. On July 28th, he will be performing his album Utopia at the Pyramids in Egypt. Furthermore, he is reportedly going to perform Utopia at Rolling Loud the week prior. We still do not know when the album is going to be released. However, it is crystal clear that the release date is coming up very soon. Overall, this is very good news for all of the fans out there. They have waited the better part of three years for this project, and now, Scott is ready to deliver on his promise.

As many fans already know, Travis Scott is someone who likes to partake in numerous creative endeavors. A couple of years ago, the rapper posted an A24 movie script on his Instagram story. For years, there were no updates on this project. However, that has now changed. According to The Film Stage, the movie has already been filmed and edited by Harmony Korine. However, while the film may be done, it has hit a bit of a snag in the production process.

Essentially, Travis Scott is completely refusing to release the project. He will not sign off on it, and therefore, the project remains in a state of limbo. Although, there are some interesting elements in regard to this new endeavor. As it turns out, the project is going to be filmed entirely in infrared. This is a pretty wacky idea, and there is no telling how it may actually look. Scott did post an infrared image on his Instagram story, so perhaps that could end up telling the story.

Either way, fans just want Utopia at this point. Hopefully, it comes out soon. Let us know your thoughts on this potential A24 collaboration, in the comments below. Additionally, stay tuned to HNHH for more news from the music world.
