Foo Fighters And HER Will Each Share Their Own Spins Of ‘The Glass’ With A Special Double A-Side Release

Much to the joy of fans, Foo Fighters officially announced that they will be dropping a double A-side single of their song, “The Glass,” including a reinterpretation of the track performed by HER.

The track will be available to stream starting this Friday. There is also a limited-edition 7-inch vinyl that is currently up for pre-order. This will be released on December 29.

While the two performed the song together during the band’s previous Saturday Night Live appearance, Grohl delivered the lead vocals while she first popped in as the backing vocals in the chorus. From there, she carried the second verse on her own, giving fans a glimpse of what she’ll sound like delivering the heartbreaking lyrics in the full upcoming song.

HER will appear solo on this release, delivering new vocals and guitar instrumentation that is meant to transform the original’s “sonic and emotional dimensions,” per a release.

“The Glass” previously appeared as part of Foo Fighters’ recent album, But Here We Are, which dropped back in June. It marked the band’s first record without their late drummer, Taylor Hawkins.

Jazmine Sullivan, HER, Sia, And Common Honor Chaka Khan For Her Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Induction

Tonight’s Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame induction ceremony has honored a truly stacked list of musical legends for 2023. During the show, Chaka Khan received a heartfelt tribute as one of the inductees. Other musicians like HER, Sia, Common, and Jazmine Sullivan welcomed her with the award.

Sullivan led Chaka Khan’s induction speech — giving kind words to one of her biggest inspirations. “That voice, as raw as it is sweet, as sensual as it is soulful, has guided us through good times and bad, through meet-ups and breakups, through desire and despair, through hard times and higher love,” Sullivan said, according to Rolling Stone. “Chaka’s voice will never get lost among her peers or fade in the background, her tone stands alone. Everything about Chaka is fire.”

She also shared a story about how Khan was there for Sullivan’s mother when she went into remission for cancer.

From there, HER, Sia, and Common all appeared at different times to perform a blend of Khan’s songs. Common did “I Feel For You,” and HER played stuff from Khan’s time in Rufus with “Ain’t Nobody” and “Sweet Thing.” Sia closed out the medley with “I’m Every Woman,” according to the publication.

HER’s Lights On 2023 Festival Has Been Canceled A Month Before It Was Scheduled To Take Place

Although live entertainment has been back for two years, the industry is still being hampered by logistical issues, leading to the cancellations of a number of festivals this year, including Made In America, Kid Cudi’s Moon Man’s Landing, and Rolling Loud New York, among others.

The latest event to suffer this fate is the third edition of HER’s Lights On Festival, which has been canceled just one month before it was due to return to Mountain View, California’s Shoreline Amphitheatre. The festival, which was to have been headlined by Jazmine Sullivan and supported by Alina Baraz, Don Toliver, PartyNextDoor, Smino, and Syd in addition to rising Bay Area stars like Rexx Life Raj and Symba, was scheduled for September 16-17.

In a statement sent to the San Francisco Chronicle, a representative of the festival wrote, “Due to unforeseen circumstances, Lights On Festival will not take place this year. We sincerely appreciate and value the Lights On Festival community and look forward to returning with an incredible experience in 2024.” Refunds are expected to be processed automatically.

Lights On was previously held at the Concord Pavilion in 2019 and 2021, postponed in 2020, and was not held in 2022. It moved to the larger Shoreline Amphitheater this year to accommodate a larger fan turnout.

HER Is Officially Looking To Complete That EGOT With Her Broadway Show Opening This Month

Singer and actress Gabriella Wilson, better known as HER (but she should really consider going by her real name, already), told Entertainment Tonight in 2021 that she wanted to win an EGOT (one each from the Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Awards) shortly after taking home an Oscar for her Judas And The Black Messiah track “Fight For You.” Then, last year, she picked up an Emmy for producing on Netflix’s We The People with the Obamas. This month, she’ll take an earnest swing for the final award, a Tony, with a producer credit on the upcoming Broadway show, Here Lies Love.

Co-written by David Byrne and Fatboy Slim, Here Lies Love follows a narrative centered on former Philippines first lady, Imelda Marcos. It’s fitting, then, that Wilson is also producing, as she proudly represents her Filipina heritage in her work, such as the designs on her dress in Disney’s Beauty And The Beast: A 30th Celebration. Should the show win a Tony Award next June, it’ll make her the youngest woman to ever achieve an EGOT by ten years; the current youngest woman is Jennifer Hudson, who was 38 when she won in 2021, becoming the 17th person overall, the third youngest person, and just the second Black woman to win ever. She was most recently succeeded by Viola Davis, the 18th person and third Black woman, last year.

HER shared a preview video of the show on her Instagram on Sunday, sharing the opening date, July 20. Check it out below.

H.E.R. Was Reportedly Sued For Alleged Copyright Infringement For Focus

H.E.R. and Live Nation Urban have exciting news as they announce the highly anticipated return of the Lights On Festival on Sept. 16 and 17.

Now in its third installment, the festival is set to take place at the renowned Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, CA, moving to the festival grounds for the first time after two consecutive sold-out editions in 2019 and 2021. Pre-sales for the event will commence on Thursday, June 29 at 12 pm PT, ending at 10 pm PT, with the general on-sale launching on Friday, June 30 at 12 pm PT.

This year’s festival boasts an impressive lineup, with GRAMMY® Award-winning R&B sensation Jazmine Sullivan headlining the first night on September 16. The festival will conclude with a special H.E.R. & Friends set on September 17. The diverse roster also includes talented artists like Don Toliver, Alina Baraz, PARTYNEXTDOOR, Doechii, DVSN, and many more.

“I’m so excited ‘Lights On Fest’ will be making its return,” H.E.R. says, “It’s my favorite way to wind down the summer by having two days filled with great R&B music. I am so proud to reveal the extraordinary talent we have on the bill this year and can’t wait for everyone to see what’s to come!”

Since its debut in 2019, H.E.R.’s Lights On Festival has made history as the first female-owned and curated festival in decades. Being a Bay Area native herself, H.E.R. aims to celebrate a genre-rich lineup of artists from her hometown and beyond. In addition to outstanding musical performances, the festival also features attractions such as a film screening tent, live art installations, an R&B Museum, a Guitar Lounge, and an expansive arcade.

HER Announced The Return Of Her Lights On Festival For 2023 With Jazmine Sullivan As A Headliner

HER‘s Lights On Festival, which she launched in her native Bay Area in 2021 with co-headliner Erykah Badu before expanding to Brooklyn with Maxwell, is coming back for another round of soulful performances this September in Mountain View, California. This time, she’ll be accompanied as co-headliner by Jazmine Sullivan, with support from PartyNextDoor, Don Toliver, Alina Baraz, Toosii, Smino, and Syd, in addition to many more breakout artists in hip-hop and R&B.

The Lights On Fest is billed for the weekend of September 16-17 at Shoreline Festival Grounds in Mountain View. The presale for tickets begins this Thursday, June 28, at 12 pm, while the general sale begins on Friday at 12. You can get more information at LightsOnFest.com.

While some fans thought HER was in danger of becoming oversaturated, what with her numerous Grammys, Oscars, and Emmys — she’s only a Tony Award away from an EGOT — she has kept a low profile early this year after declaring that she wanted “people to get to know the person behind [the HER persona]” — a process that drew plenty of positive attention. Making a comeback with her well-received festival will help with that, as will her upcoming role in the musical remake of The Color Purple dropping later this year.

H.E.R. Recalls Working with Diane Warren for New Single ‘The Journey’

H.E.R. Recalls Working with Diane Warren for New Single 'The Journey'

H.E.R. is back, releasing her new single, “The Journey.” You may have heard the single as it has been featured throughout the ESPN coverage of the NBA Playoffs Presented by Google Pixel.

ESPN has incorporated “The Journey” into a number of in-game production components, including segments with H.E.R. Through the song lyrics, the vignettes, and other production aspects depict the various routes taken by each of the 16 teams in the NBA Playoffs.

The heartfelt and exquisite ballad is H.E.R.’s first solo record to be released since the Grammy Award-winning album Back Of My Mind in 2021. As H.E.R. moves into the next phase of her career, including releasing new music and her most recent work in cinema and television, Diane Warren’s song “The Journey” also reflects H.E.R.

Appearing on Apple Music 1 with Zane Lowe, H.E.R. discussed the new single, reflecting on the song’s origin and collaborating with Diane Warren.

On creating the single, H.E.R. states:

“I just wanted to get out of the way of the song. Whatever is there, let’s just get out of the way. Don’t try to … it is what it is. Let that shine, the lyrics, the vocal. And my thing was just creating the story and the dynamic, and I worked with my band and I was kind of like, ‘All right, we need this fill here. This bass should do this line. Give it a little bit of flavor.’ We were listening to Brian Adams, we were listening to Whitney. We were listening to all my favorites, Journey, the band. And one of my favorite things about the song is the string arrangements. And it was something I do live that I’ve never done on records is sing all the string parts. So I went in and sang each individual part, and then I was like, ‘Oh, this sounds really good.’ I listened to it, just my vocal and just my vocal strings. And then we brought the strings in and it just blew my mind.”

The single is special for H.E.R. as it was created in collaboration with Diane Warren, who she first worked with at age 14:

“Someone introduced me to her and she kept up with me since then. And then I called her, I was like, ‘Would love to work with you.’ And this was in the fall, and then we made it happen and got in the studio and she was like, ‘I’ve been working on this song.’ And she played me the chords for this song. And immediately I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, how did you know this is the time?’ She’s like, ‘I didn’t. I didn’t know. I just feel like this song is meant for you.’ And I put my thing on it and I produced it out and turned into this moment. But yeah, I think it’s sent from God.”

You can hear the single in full below.
