Grown-ish premiered back in 2018 as a spin-off from ABC’s other series, Black-ish. The show stars Yara Shahidi, Marcus Scribner, Trevor Jackson, Diggy Simmons, and more. Its sixth and final season will premiere on June 28.

NLE Choppa and Latto will be far from the first high-profile guests to star in Grown-ish. Saweetie made her acting debut on the show back in 2021. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly afterward, she explained that she wants to explore acting more. “I wanted to make sure I delivered,” she said at the time. She added: “I feel like with roles, whether if it’s an episode or in a music video, you always have to commit to the emotion of what you’re trying to portray. I thought it was cool, a little cheating but that’s okay: I played an artist and I’m an artist myself. But the girl’s attitude and personality is completely night and day with mine so I did have to learn about her. She’s a diva, she’s bossy.”

Saweetie added: “I could definitely see myself having a show or just doing more guest-star roles, or even doing a movie. I think it’s art. It’s fun to step outside my comfort zone and [it] allows me to just explore my creative side.”

Freeform’s hit series Grown-ish will wrap up with the forthcoming season 6.

According to Variety, the series will end in two parts: a summer 2023 half-season and a second one in 2024. The series’ closing season will also have the 100th episode.

“We’ve spent nearly a decade telling our stories through the -ish series and to say it has been an amazing journey would be an understatement,” said series creator and executive producer Kenya Barris to Variety. “To be able to watch Yara, Marcus and our entire ‘grown-ish’ family grow up in front of (and in many ways alongside) us over these past several years has been both a joy and an honor. From the stories we’ve told to the talent we’ve fostered and, most importantly, the memories made, I could not be more proud of everything we’ve accomplished and the -ish family I’ve been a part of.”

Grown-ish would wrap up a franchise of comedies from Barris, which included the original Black-ish and another spin-off in Mixed-ish.

In our insightful 12 Days of Christmas interview with Ryan, she opens up about perfecting the balance in juggling multiple pursuits, especially as her acting career continues to elevate.

“Just being transparent, I feel like it’s something that still has to kind of go day by day with it,” Ryan exclusively told us. “And I’m very interested to see how my next year goes because it’s probably going to be the hardest to juggle, just out of the past few years, because of the pandemic, and everything that went on, I feel like it really slowed a lot of things down.”
“But now, since things are starting to pick back up, it’s just going to be really interesting to see how it all really can be done, because of the projects that I have coming out, with acting, and then more things being produced, and then music as well. And just kind of how those two live together.”

“I worked on this record with a writer named [Rook Monroe] and a producer duo named Trackside,” she exclusively told HNHH. “And I actually recorded this back in 2018, which is so crazy because it’s just so insane how the process goes. But yeah, I think we just wanted something to feel very authentic and like I was telling a story. I think that’s just what it feels like.”

“Those are some of my favorite—personally my favorite, R&B songs,” Ryan also added. “When it literally just feels like you’re telling a story of something that just happened to them. That’s how I wanted it to feel, and unfortunately, with a topic like this, it is very relatable [laughs] with a lot of women.”

“I really wanted to touch on that with a little bit of my own experiences with certain men and people that kinda just play you when you wanna just say, ‘I’m not the one.’”

Quotable Lyrics

I thought we should talk this out
But there’s not much left to talk about
I seen you with someone
But that someone’s not this someone
Who was I to think you’d come around
