Drake Gave Us A Worldwide Bop And Lyrical Banger On “Scary Hours” EP

Drake is one of the few artists who can have a song blow up without much notice or rollout. He was able to pull that off six years ago (January 19) with his two-pack EP, Scary Hours. It began the running theme within Drizzy’s catalog that has now produced a follow-up and is the title for the For All The Dogs extended version. As we mentioned, the first Scary Hours possessed one of Drake’s biggest songs ever, that is “God’s Plan.”

It took over the internet and it was his first single since “Signs” about a year prior in 2017. Joining the global phenomenon was the more lyrically-heavy “Diplomatic Immunity.” While “God’s Plan” is more of a triumphant and thankful cut about how far he’s come amidst adversity, the latter flexes a more braggadocious Drake. “‘Cause n****s started talkin’ to me like I’m slowin’ down / Opinions over statistics, of course / Gassed off journalistic / Come at me and all you’ll get is the ballistic report.”

Quotable Lyrics From “God’s Plan”:

She say, “Do you love me?” I tell her, “Only partly
I only love my bed and my mama, I’m sorry”
Fifty Dub, I even got it tatted on me
Eighty-one, they’ll bring the crashers to the party
And you know me
Turn the O2 into the O3, dog

Drake Performs “God’s Plan” With A Fan, Gets Massive Praise From FUBU Founder Daymond John

Whether you love Drake or love to hate him, you can’t deny that the Canadian has always been a pro at walking to the beat of his own drum. Rather than looking outside of himself for inspiration, the legendary lyricist follows his intuition, even if it leads him toward some serious fashion risks. So far this year he’s been clowned for getting a pink manicure, and more recently, wearing clips of the same colour while switching up his usual hairstyle. It’s clear that not everyone was feeling those, but the FUBU shirt Drizzy donned at the same time is earning him some major flowers from founder Daymond John.

“Drake, I mean one of the world’s top artists,” the creative gushed in a video shared by TMZ on Saturday (August 19). “Wearing a shirt – I’ve seen Megan Thee Stallion, Chris Brown, and now Drake,” John added. “These people are defining our culture today, and I think that to think about the fact that it’s something that my partners and I came up with 35 years ago in our basement.”

The brain behind FUBU went on to point out that “trends come and go,” but it’s interesting to see the resurgence of the ’90s sportswear brand come together with the 50th anniversary of hip-hop. “It’s just an amazing thing, and if I can do it, anybody can do it,” John encouraged any other aspiring designers out there.

“Shoutout to Drake and all the amazing artists that go back in the vault and educate people on part of the culture. I love it,” his public message to the rap world ended. Elsewhere in the news, the 6ix God has been entertaining crowds all across the country on his It’s All a Blur tour, even bringing one lucky fan out on stage to perform one of Drake’s biggest hits together.

Ye’s Sunday Service Choir Covers A Drake Hit In The Wake Of Their Recent Treaty

During the most recent edition of Ye’s Sunday Service, his Sunday Service Choir introduced an unusual new selection to its repertoire: Drake’s 2018 no. 1 hit, “God’s Plan.” While the choir has played numerous contemporary classics over the course of the past few years, this one was different in that Kanye and Drake had been feuding for nearly the entirety of the choir’s existence. Although the origins of the feud remain unclear to this day, the performance of the new song was made possible by the recent ceasefire the two stars called at the behest of J. Prince and Larry Hoover Jr.

In fact, Ye was apparently so amped about their reconciliation, the choir not only opened Sunday Service with “God’s Plan,” but also reprised it after several Donda songs, according to HipHopDX. The performance may well have constituted a preview of Drake and Ye’s upcoming concert to benefit the elder Larry Hoover’s efforts to have his life prison sentence commuted, which the pair officially announced yesterday as well.

The concert is set for December 9 at the Los Angeles Coliseum and will see the two rappers join each other on stage for the first time in nearly a decade. The architect behind both the concert and the truce was apparently Houston impresario (and rumored threatening figure) J. Prince, who first posted alongside Kanye imploring Drake to bury the hatchet before the two rappers were seen together with Prince in a photo suggesting they’d done just that.

The Woman Whose Tuition Drake Paid In His ‘God’s Plan’ Video Posts Her Graduation Pics

One of my favorite meme formats on social media these days is the “how it started/how it’s going” post because it’s a reminder that life goes on and positive things are happening amidst the seemingly endless deluge of bad news with which we’re inundated on a daily basis. Case in point: While some cynics looked at the charity Drake committed to in his 2018 “God’s Plan” video as nothing more or less than a publicity stunt, it turns out that his donations had a last positive effect on at least one of their recipients.

Destiny James, the University of Miami student to whom Drake gave a $50,000 check, recently posted her graduation announcement on Instagram, captioning her post: “Mama, I mastered it. Daddy, I did it. 4 days until I am officially UNC Alum.” Naturally, the post found its way over to Twitter, where delighted fans flipped it into the aforementioned meme format, contrasting the two moments that have both undoubtedly changed Ms. James’s life for the better.

Drake, who will be honored with an Artist of the Decade Award at the upcoming Billboard Music Awards, also congratulated the graduate, commenting on the post, “LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO DES!” Meanwhile, the artist himself is preparing an announcement of his own: The release date of his next album, Certified Lover Boy, which was delayed from its original release date in January. And his habit of giving back continues; earlier this year, he helped pay off another fan’s student debt.
