Kendrick Lamar’s Hometown Mural Has Been Vandalized Yet Again To The Dismay Of Its Artist

Kendrick Lamar is beaming with hometown pride. In fact, the “Squabble Up” rapper dedicated his latest chart-topping album, GNX, to showcase his love for Compton, California and the surrounding areas.

Despite Kendrick’s dedication to his neighborhood, he isn’t immune to local hate. According to XXL, a mural in Kendrick Lamar’s honor has been defaced. This isn’t the first time the piece, located on Rosecrans Avenue behind Honduran restaurant Mi Sabor has been defiled. Back in September, the visual piece was vandalized with gang graffiti.

The latest markings have not been identified, but the artist responsible for it, Sloe Motions, expressed his displeasure with its defacement yet again. “I was one of the artist who painted the mural and the guy who blacked out the Kendrick face literally just made it worse,” he wrote in the comment section of XXL’s upload.

After the release of Kendrick Lamar’s song “Wacced Out Murals,” where he addressed the first incident, Motions detailed his frustration when his first piece was vandalized. “A couple months ago our Kendrick mural got hit. Of course, we were pissed and wanted to fix it, but it just kept getting worse,” he wrote. “Flash forward to today and Kendrick drops a song about the situation. It doesn’t necessarily make it ok, but it does feel good to have our hard work for the community immortalized in a song by one of the greatest to ever do it. Thank you, Kendrick Lamar for making this situation a little better today.”

Kendrick Lamar has not addressed the latest vandalization.

Joe Budden Reacts To Lil Wayne & Kendrick Lamar Talking Out Super Bowl Controversy

In September of this year, Kendrick Lamar announced that he’ll be headlining the Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show in February. The event is scheduled to take place in New Orleans and the news prompted mixed reactions from social media users. While some saw this as a solid choice, considering Kendrick’s huge year, others thought Lil Wayne was snubbed. Weezy himself even hopped online amid the controversy to confirm that he was hurt.

“That hurt, it hurt a lot,” he said at the time. “Thought there was nothing better than that spot, on that stage, on that platform.” Kendrick went on to reference the debacle on his album GNX, seemingly acknowledging the lack of support he received from Lil Wayne. Since then, the two of them patched things up with a phone call, which Lil Wayne revealed during a recent appearance on The Skip Bayless Show. “I’ve spoken to him, and I wished him all the best,” he shared. “[I] told him he better kill it.”

Joe Budden Notes How Lil Wayne Spoke To Kendrick Lamar Before Hearing “Wacced Out Murals”

Joe Budden recently shared his take on the situation, however, claiming that Lil Wayne left a huge detail out. According to him, Lil Wayne and Kendrick spoke before the latter dropped “wacced out murals,” and before Lil Wayne seemingly tweeted about it. “He left a small part out of that,” he said. “He spoke to him, and then he started tweeting. Which would make somebody say, ‘N***a, didn’t we just talk?’”

At another point in Lil Wayne’s conversation with Skip Bayless, he said that he’d yet to hear Kendrick’s line about him on GNX. “Used to bump Tha Carter III, I held my Rollie chain proud,” he raps. “Irony, I think my hard work let Lil Wayne down.” Upon having the lyrics read to him, he explained why he took it as a sign of mutual respect. “He’s a fan like I’m a fan,” described. “He saw like everybody else, he saw how much it meant to me. I think that’s all he mean.”

Lefty Gunplay Details “Cool” Relationship With Kendrick Lamar

Lefty Gunplay is having a huge 2024. The rapper dropped a staggering four albums during the year. He also had a breakout guest appearance on Kendrick Lamar’s song “tv off.” The single was a standout on Lamar’s album, GNX, and peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100. Lefty Gunplay is a burgeoning star, and he’s made it clear that his relationship with Lamar is strong. The rapper recently sat down for an interview in which he claimed Lamar was the most famous person in his phone. He also assured fans that he could call K. Dot whenever he wanted.

“I’ll call Kendrick right now,” Lefty Gunplay told the interviewer. “He’ll answer me, yeah, for sure.” He went on to explain that he’s developed a friendship with the Lamar since they collaborated. The rapper added that Lamar “loves” him, and would do whatever was necessary to link up if needed. “He loves me,” Lefty Gunplay asserted. “If I need to talk to Kendrick Lamar right now, he gon’ answer. Lefty Gunplay Confirms He’s “Cool” With K. Dot

“We’re so famous that he gets ahold of me through his team,” Gunplay explained. “And low-key I’m becoming that famous where we got so much going on.” The rapper is thrilled to be rising up the ranks in terms of hip hop stardom. Still, he maintains that his bond with Lamar is legitimate. “If I need him to know that ‘Lefty said he really needs to talk to you,’” he noted. “He’ll call. I know he will. Shout out Kendrick.” It has only been a few months since the release of “tv off,” but Lefty Gunplay has already delved into the circumstances in which he clicked with Lamar.

The most interesting aspect of Lefty’s story, though, is that Drake reportedly tried to reach out first. He told Bootleg Kev Podcast that Drake was a fan. “He liked a couple things, he liked my songs,” he stated. Still, the connection wasn’t there the way that it was, and currently is, between Lefty Gunplay and Lamar. “[Drake] never reached out the way Kendrick did,” the rapper explained. “When he reached out, he was real. He made me feel comfortable. I felt comfortable with him.” Hopefully we hear more Lefty and K. Dot music moving forward.

Following the filing of petitions on November 25, sales of “Not Like Us” have surged by 440 percent, with streams increasing by 20 percent, according to Talk of the Charts. The dramatic spike highlights the song’s renewed attention, driven by the recent developments.

In related news, Kendrick Lamar’s unexpected album GNX has made a powerful debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart dated Dec. 7, earning the rapper his fifth consecutive chart-topping project. Released without prior notice on Nov. 22, GNX garnered 319,000 equivalent album units in its first week, according to Luminate, marking the sixth-largest debut of the year.

Streaming drove most of GNX’s success, with 285,000 SEA units translating to 379.72 million on-demand streams of its 12 tracks. The remaining units include 32,000 album sales and 2,000 TEA units. Despite only being available as a standard digital download, GNX landed at No. 2 on Top Album Sales.

The album includes 12 tracks, including the one teased in the “Not Like Us” video, officially titled “Squabble Up.” The album also includes a trailer of Lamar with his GNX ride. You can peep it all below.

Snoop Dogg Reveals He Reached Out To Kendrick Lamar After Sharing Drake’s “Taylor Made Freestyle”

Snoop Dogg says he left Kendrick Lamar a voice message to apologize after sharing Drake’s “Taylor Made Freestyle” diss track on social media. Lamar mentioned the move on his new GNX track, “wacced out murals.” “Snoop posted ‘Taylor Made’,” he rapped. “I prayed it was the edibles. I couldn’t believe it, it was only right for me to let it go.” Snoop discussed the situation during an interview with Bootleg Kev.

Kev began by bringing up Snoop’s post about the album, in which he wrote: “K Dot new album GNX [fire emojis[. It was the edibles. West West King.” Snoop explained: “That’s my nephew, man. He’s a rapper. He’s supposed to speak his mind and tell his truth. That’s the way he felt. He had the right to say that. I’m his big homeboy so I have to take what’s given to me from his perspective because he’s speaking truth. And the truth shouldn’t hurt you. It should make you better. The Weeknd Shows Love To Kendrick Lamar’s “GNX”

Last month, Kendrick Lamar shocked the world by unveiling his new album GNX with zero warning. Unsurprisingly, the project has since been a major success. It sold an impressive 319K album-equivalent units in its first week, per HITS Daily Double, and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 album chart. He then topped the Billboard Canadian Albums chart as well, per the outlet. Various tracks from the album have also remained in the charts, such as “squabble up,” “luther,” “tv off,” and more.

Of course, several of Kendrick’s celebrity peers have also shown GNX love in recent weeks. Earlier today, The Weekend even took to his Instagram Story to show off the fact that he was listening to it by posting various screenshots. He’s far from the only one who has it on repeat these days, however. Busta Rhymes, Chris Brown, Snoop Dogg, and many more have also shown their support for the project. Suki Baby, the model from Drake and 21 Savage’s Her Loss album cover, even praised Kendrick for it late last month.

The Weeknd Listens To Kendrick Lamar’s Album

The Weeknd’s latest posts come shortly after a man on DJ Akademiks’ livestream made some wild allegations involving him and Drake. The man, social media influencer @julianxceo, alleged that Drake paid Top5 $3 million to shoot up The Weeknd’s house. It remains unclear exactly what shooting he was referring to, but earlier this year, a shooting did occur outside of The Weeknd’s co-manager Amir “Cash XO” Esmailian’s Los Angeles home. Julian’s claims appear to be totally unfounded, however.

As for Kendrick, he recently headlined Top Dog Entertainment’s 11th annual holiday concert and toy drive. It took place at Nickerson Gardens in Watts earlier this month and also featured performances from SZA, Isaiah Rashad, Doechii, ScHoolboy Q, and more. GloRilla even made a surprise appearance at the end of the event to perform “TGIF.”

Lamar also scores another hit with “Not Like Us,” a track fueled by his lyrical battle with Drake, which claims #9. The rapper continues his dominance, holding the #1 spot on US Top Artists. GNX‘s chart success further solidifies Kendrick Lamar’s position at the forefront of contemporary hip-hop.

Matt Barnes Insists Andrew Schulz “Crossed A Line” With Kendrick Lamar Assault Joke

Late last month, Kendrick Lamar surprise-dropped his new album GNX, which has since been a huge success. Immediately after the release, listeners began to speculate about a few of the Compton rapper’s bars. One in particular has sparked a great deal of controversy, as some suspect it was directed at Andrew Schulz. “Don’t let no white comedian talk about no Black woman, that’s law,” Kendrick raps on “wacced out murals.”

Schulz went on to respond to the apparent call-out on his Flagrant podcast, making it clear that he doesn’t think he’s done anything wrong. He even joked that he could sexually assault Kendrick during a bizarre rant, which for obvious reasons, didn’t sit right with many. Countless social media users expressed their outrage over the rant, arguing that Schulz took things too far. This now includes Matt Barnes, who weighed in on the debacle during a recent episode of All The Smoke Unplugged.

Matt Barnes Weighs In On Andrew Schulz Controversy

In a clip, he accuses Schulz of chasing clout and claims that the comedian crossed a line. “Andrew Schulz has been consistently day in, day out going in and trying to grow from this,” he began. “If you want to respond to what Kendrick said in the song, although he didn’t name no names, I don’t think no one had a problem with that. But obviously, I feel like you crossed a line when you started talking about taking his manhood and just disrespecting him as a man… And now you want to cry about the reaction that you’ve been getting from the sh*t you’ve said. I’m not sure what you expected, bro.”

Barnes isn’t the only one who wasn’t feeling Schulz’s response, however. Ice Cube’s oldest son O’Shea Jackson Jr, for example, also took to X to share his thoughts last week. This prompted a heated back and forth, during which Jackson Jr. called Schulz a “Weird a** n***a.”

Drake Trolls Kendrick: Disses & Drama In Hip-Hop’s Top Feud

As the kerfuffle between Kendrick Lamar and Drake enters the legal system, it doesn’t mean that Aubrey Graham’s trolling has come to a halt. Despite being one of the top-selling artists in the world, the OVO head honcho has had quite a rough year. His war of words with K.Dot has dominated Hip Hop conversations since its lyrical launch in the Spring of 2024. Now, Drizzy has set off a controversial lawsuit against UMG regarding allegedly using illegal bots to boost the success of Lamar’s “Not Like Us.” Some found it surprising, considering the seemingly organic global sensation that the hit track became, but the 6 God doesn’t seem to be taking his L in stride.

Yet, there are those who don’t believe that Drake suffered a loss in this Rap beef. Granted, it will go down in Hip Hop history as one of the greatest battles between chart-topping artists to date, making it an ongoing hot topic across outlets, podcasts, and social media users looking to spark discussions. A point that no one could ignore is Graham’s incessant trolling of his opponent, taking to the internet to drop off photos, comments, gestures, and the like to poke the bear. They are moves that Lamar seemed to reference in his lyrics, but it hasn’t stopped Drake from using trolling to show Dot’s attacks don’t faze him. We’ve gathered just a handful of Drizzy’s attempts at prodding Kendrick during their beef, and some believe that, often, Champagne Papi is his own worst enemy.

Targeting Kendrick Lamar’s Manager

In Rap beef, some say anything goes and no one is safe, and Drake made sure to include not only Lamar’s family, but to troll the rapper’s manager, Anthony Selah. Back in April, Drake added a photo of Selah to his Instagram Story, where he mocked the entertainment executive. In between turtle emojis, he wrote, “Wonder is today the day,” seemingly referencing that Kendrick was taking too long issuing a response to a track. That wasn’t all—Drizzy popped back up the following day with another image of Selah. This time, it was a photo of the music manager holding two large OVO bags with the caption, “We getting in our bag or nah?” It looks like Lamar’s camp certainly was.

“They Have Nothing To Drop”

Although the tension between Drake and Kendrick didn’t begin in 2024, it indeed reached its peak this year. Two days after trolling Anthony Selah, DJ Akademiks reposted a message from L.A.’s REAL 92.3’s DJ Hed. The media personality didn’t take kindly to the way Drake was moving on the internet. “The Canadian ‘responded’ after over a decade of being dared to come outside,” Hed wrote. “Still has yet to officially claim said ‘response.’ He’s now taunting Ant in attempts to garner a reaction. If you enjoy microwave meals that’s on you. We prefer cooked food on this side.” Akademiks also caught a stray when DJ Hed told him “to post that.” Later, Drizzy took to trolling Hed by replying, “Use me as a ‘they have nothing to drop’ button,” egging on the opposition and their supporters.

Compton Community College ‘Fit

April was a busy month of trolling for Drake because a little over a week after prodding Selah and firing back at DJ Hed, another photo stirred controversy. The OVO star is known for posing on the ‘Gram, showing off his luxury fits, jewelry, and vacations. However, some believed he was throwing shade at Kendrick Lamar by rocking a Compton Community College sweatshirt, a school with which Dot has been actively involved for many years. Further, Lamar has always carried his hometown of Compton on his back throughout his career and activism.

This was a blatant dig, but it didn’t do much—other than that, in June 2024, in the throes of the Rap beef, Dot made a surprise appearance at Compton Community College. There, he delivered an inspiring commencement speech. “I wanted to come out here just to tell y’all how much I appreciate y’all. I’m proud of the city of Compton, I’m proud of Compton College, most importantly, I’m proud of the graduates out here,” said Lamar. “I know what it takes. You had a lot of hardship, not only in your house, in your communities, but most importantly, in yourself, and that’s the toughest thing to overcome. We still growing day by day, brick by brick, making sure we develop, not only in the physical form but in the spiritual as well.”

Tupac & Snoop A.I. Verses

One of the strangest parts of this Rap beef between these two heavy hitters had to be Drake’s “Taylor Made Freestyle.” The track perplexed listeners not only due to its A.I.-generated verses from Snoop Dogg and Tupac Shakur but also because many didn’t understand why Drake would think this was a flex. Additionally, it caught the attention of U.S. Senator Tom Tillis from North Carolina. Drizzy and Co. wanted to use the two West Coast, Los Angeles legends’ voices to mock Lamar, but it backfired across the board.

Later, Tupac’s estate emerged with a reported cease and desist letter, while Snoop shared a video on social media, evidently addressing the controversy. Moreover, Drake decided to remove the song from the internet, avoiding the legal drama. As far as Senator Tillis is concerned, he has long advocated for protecting entertainers’ likenesses and voices when addressing the future of A.I. Tillis played a portion of the A.I. verses from “Taylor Made Freestyle” in Congress. He punched the importance of lawmaking surrounding the topic. “So, we’ve got work to do and legislation addressing the misuse of digital replicas will have a multi-billion dollar implication,” said Senator Tillis. “We’ve got to get it under control.”

Wearing A Tupac Shirt Amid Beef Battle

Both Drake and Kendrick Lamar have been outspoken regarding their admiration of the late Tupac Shakur. Both have cited him as an influence, but for some, Dot has exemplified Pac’s character and talents. Yet, although Southern California wasn’t Shakur’s birthplace, he is long hailed as a West Coast G.O.A.T. from the Bay to L.A. This is felt throughout Hip Hop, as artists from California often call on Tupac as their inspiration. This includes Lamar, who never skips a beat to praise the activist, lyricist, and Hip Hop icon as a motivator in his career.

This is why, when in July, Drizzy posed, once again, on the ‘Gram to show off another gossip-worthy ‘fit. While he trolled Kendrick with the Compton Community College shirt the first time around, he returned with a Tupac look that made fans think he was subliminally targeting Lamar. Drake’s “Only God Can Judge Me” t-shirt wasn’t exactly subtle, especially considering his A.I. Tupac verse. Lamar mentioned Drake’s admiration of Pac during their battle on “Not Like Us.” He rhymed, “You think the Bay ‘gon let you disrespect Pac, n*gga / I think that Oakland show gon’ be your last stop, n*gga.”

Custaaaard!

Hip Hop exploded when Kendrick Lamar dropped his surprise GNX, an album hailed as a classic within 24 hours. One word has taken over social media timelines as his lyrics, cadence, and musicality continue to be dissected. On the Lefty Gunplay-assisted “TV Off,” Dot yells, “Mustaaaaard,” referencing famed L.A. producer DJ Mustard, who is also one of the primary producers of “Not Like Us.” The shout from Lamar on the “TV Off” has become a cultural phenomenon, with billion-dollar corporations like McDonalds even jumping in on the fun.

Drake has also seen the hype because he dropped in the comment section of LosPollosTV’s Livestream. The discussion was focused on comparing Drake’s Certified Lover Boy to Lamar’s GNX, and Drizzy slid in with a quick message: “CUSTAAAARRRRRD.” He kept things going by asking viewers to back up his trolling with, “We need a donut emoji in the chat custarrrrddddd.”

Kendrick Lamar’s “GNX” Loses Top Billboard 200 Spot To Taylor Swift

Kendrick Lamar’s newest album, GNX, has fallen back to the No. 2 spot on the Billboard 200 chart in its second week after release. Its sales dropped down to 165K over the last seven days. On the other hand, Taylor Swift and her Tortured Poets Department has regained the top spot after moving another 405K units. She dropped the original version of the project all the way back in April.

Lamar’s fans on social media have been having disappointed responses to the news. “You mean Taylor swift selling 405k unit but we are yet to hear a single song from the 100x version deluxe EP. Rap and GNX won. Taylor is a fraud,” one user wrote on X (formerly Twitter). Another posted: “Taylor Swift be doing numbers off the same album multiple drops is crazy.”

Lamar dropped GNX as his sixth studio album by surprise on November 22. It debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200, making it Lamar’s fifth album to reach the top of the chart. It moved 319,000 album-equivalent units during its first week of availability to help it get there. The project features guest appearances from AzChike, Dody6, Hitta J3, Peysoh, Roddy Ricch, Siete7x, SZA, Wallie the Sensei, Lefty Gunplay, and YoungThreat. The collaborators have also been enjoying success in the streaming department after appearing on the highly-publicized album. As noted by Billboard, Lefty’s catalog has spiked 84% in the time since GNX’s release while Dody6’s catalog is up over 110%.

In other news, Drake recently took legal action against Universal Music Group, accusing the company of defamation. He says they should’ve blocked the release of Lamar’s diss track, “Not Like Us,” over allegations he made in the lyrics. Additionally, Drake alleges that UMG artificially boosted the success of the song, which the company has already denied.
