Giannis Antetokounmpo Co-Signs Noah Lyles’ “World Champions” Comment

Giannis Antetokounmpo has come to the defense of Noah Lyles after weeks of backlash for the American sprinter. “He received so much backlash for saying, like, the obvious, but some people don’t understand it. I don’t know, maybe it’s like an arrogance thing,” Giannis told the 48 Minutes podcast. “I don’t think in any other sport you are called the world champions. Like in soccer, which is way bigger than the NBA, more popular than the NBA, when the Champions League, the UEFA Champions League champions … they don’t say [they’re] world champion. When they win the World Cup, they play against the USA team, they play against the teams around the world, countries around the world. Then they say world champs.”

Despite the backlash, Lyles was somewhat vindicated. While he was not rooting against Team USA at the FIBA World Cup, his comments rang true. Team USA finished fourth, missing out on a medal for the second World Cup in a row. While some of the NBA’s top stars have begun to express interest in the 2024 Olympics in Paris, Lyles’ “World Champions of what?” has rung truer than ever in recent weeks.

Dwight Howard Joins Olympic Interest

Meanwhile, Dwight Howard has become the latest player to express interest in representing the United States at the 2024 Olympics in Paris. In the late 2000s, Howard was a go-to pick for the national team. He won a gold medal at the Beijing Games in 2008 as well as a World Cup bronze in 2006. However, he is likely on the outside looking in when it comes to 2024. Despite this, Howard is adamant that he be selected.

Furthermore, he has gone as far as to say that if he isn’t selected, he will play for Taiwan and “drop 85”. There’s just one problem with this – Taiwan (or Chinese Taipei) can’t qualify for the Olympics. Taiwan is not one of the 24 remaining teams competing for one of the four remaining Olympic spots.

Drake Claims Giannis Antetokounmpo Couldn’t Walk Him Out In Milwaukee Because The NBA Star Is On “Vacation”

Drake has been getting a lot of big-name walkouts during his It’s All a Blur Tour. Many of these stars have been high-profile athletes such as Jayson Tatum and Lamar Jackson. However, at a tour stop in Milwaukee, Drake took a moment to make a bizarre and incorrect claim. Speaking to the audience, Drake said that he had asked Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo to walk him out but that Antetokounmpo had declined because he was on “vacation.”

Except Antetokounmpo isn’t on vacation. He’s currently with the Greek National Team preparing for the FIBA World Cup which begins later this month. In fact, on the same day as Drake’s Milwaukee concert, Giannis was literally playing in an exhibition game in Athens against Slovenia. Giannis’ World Cup campaign is set to begin against Jordan on August 26. Greece will also face the United States and New Zealand in the first group stage.

Bad Calls And Bad Bets From Drake

Furthermore, not knowing what his famous friends are up to isn’t the only mistake that Drake is seemingly making as of late. The Toronto rapper also recently revealed that he put down a $250,000 bet on Nate Diaz to beat Jake Paul in their August 5 boxing match in Texas. “Jake is a dog but I can never bet against a Diaz brother that’s just how I was raised,” Drake said while explaining his decision. Given how heavily the odds are stacked against Diaz, Drake will walk away with $1 million if Diaz wins.

However, Drake is definitely going against the prevailing opinion with his latest massive bet. While Diaz has a longer history of fighting experience, the reports of his training have been…worrying to say the least. Furthermore, Paul is younger, faster, and more athletic than the grizzled MMA veteran. Additionally, The Problem Child has already won four fights against MMA pros. Tyron Woodley, Ben Askren, and Anderson Silva all thought they could take him down a peg on his terms. If this was in the Octagon, there would be legitimate fears for Paul’s life. But in reality, this is a feel-good fight to help restore Paul’s credibility before he attempts to take on an actual boxer again.

Shannon Sharpe On Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Failure Comments

Shannon Sharpe is just one of many discussing the comments made by Giannis Antetokounmpo on Wednesday night. Giannis was asked if this season has become a failure for his Milwaukee Bucks. The Bucks were eliminated by the Miami Heat on Wednesday. The series victory for the Heat is a massive upset. As the Bucks were the number-one seed in the Eastern Conference. However, Giannis doesn’t see this season as a failure at all. But that may not be the case for everyone else.

On Thursday’s edition of Undisputed, Sharpe, and co-host Skip Bayless discussed if Giannis had a point with his comments. While Sharpe let the audience know he doesn’t believe Giannis is a failure. However, the former NFL tight end does believe the team became a failure this season. Sharpe points to how the Bucks lost to a team that barely made the playoffs. It took two play-in games for the Heat to earn the right to a playoff berth. Check out Sharpe’s full comments in the video below.

Shannon Sharpe Calls Bucks Season Failure

Giannis had every reason to be frustrated after last night’s loss. However, saying the season didn’t end in a failure would seem oblivious. A number-one seed losing in the first round of any playoff series is rare. So when it does happen, the one seed that becomes a part of history takes major heat. However, the Bucks did deal with a massive injury during the series. Giannis basically missed two games after being injured during Game One.

The 2022-23 season for the Bucks will go down as a failure. There’s no other way to look at it. However, that doesn’t mean that the players on the team are failures. A point that Sharpe wanted to make during the discussion. Athletes have long claimed that failure is a great learning opportunity. The Bucks should realize that this is a failure. However, that doesn’t mean it’s the end of everything. Do you agree with Shannon Sharpe that the Bucks season is ultimately a failure? Let us know in the comment section. For the latest NBA news, keep it right here with HNHH.

Giannis Slams Reporter For Asking If The Season Was A “Failure”

Two seasons ago, the Milwaukee Bucks won the NBA Championship as the three-seed. They won 46 games during the regular season. This season, they won 58 games and entered the playoffs as the one-seed. This was in spite of Giannis Antetokounmpo being the only player to average more than 20 points per game. In fact, Giannis absolutely carried the team as he averaged a double-double of 31.1 points and 11.8 rebounds per game.

But it all just fell apart in the playoffs. The Miami Heat played relentlessly and consistently looked like the better team. Furthermore, with Giannis injured for most of Game 1, as well as the entirety of Games 2 and 3, the Bucks’ top-heavy vulnerability was on full display. Sealing the 4-1 series victory with a 128-126 overtime win on Wednesday night, the Heat became the fifth eight-seed to down a one-seed. They also became the first to do it since 2011, when the Grizzlies shocked the Spurs. Furthermore, the Heat also became the first team to both upset a one-seed, and be upset as a one-seed.

Giannis Defends Team And Season

Giannis’s post-game press conference will go down in history as a defining moment of these playoffs. The forward grew visibly frustrated when asked by The Athletic‘s Eric Nehm if he considered the season a “failure.” Nehm also asked the same question to head coach Mike Budenholzer later in the press conference. Giannis rubbed his face with his hands while muttering “oh my God” before responding.

You asked me the same question last year. Okay, do you get a promotion every year? In your job? No, right? So your work is a failure – yes or no? No. Every year that you work, you work towards something. Which is to get a promotion, take care of your family, provide a house for them, care take of your parents. It’s not a failure, it’s steps to success…There’s always steps to it. Michael Jordan played 15 years, won 6 championships. So the other 9 years was a failure? Yes or no? [Nehm: No] Exactly so you’re asking me the wrong question. There’s no failure in sports. There’s good days, bad days. Some days you are able to be successful, some days you are not. Some days it’s your turn, some days it’s not your turn. That’s what sports is about. You don’t always win. Some other people are going to win. This year, somebody else is going to win, simple as that. Next year we’re going to come back and try and be better and build good habits. Try to play better. Not have a 10 day stretch where we play bad basketball. And hopefully we can win a championship. Those 50 years from 1971 to 2021 where we didn’t win a championship – those were 50 years of failure? No it was not. It was steps to it. And we were able to win one and hopefully we can win another one.”

Giannis Antetokounmpo, April 26

Giannis proceeded to apologize to Nehm for “making it personal” but his overall message has quickly resonated across the sporting world. The comments of Schefter’s tweet are filled with people hailing Giannis as a role model and hero. Furthermore, it was retweeted by notable figures such as JJ Watt. It was also shared by numerous youth basketball programs, who w However, of course, there are a handful of detractors who argued that “but of course there’s failure in sports.” Regardless, Giannis made a powerful statement about he defines success and how he approaches the sport that he loves.

Giannis Antetokounmpo Needed IV Fluids After Bucks Loss

Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks came up short in Game 4 against the Miami Heat. While the game is going to be long remembered for the performance of Heat star Jimmy Butler. However, Giannis appears to have given it everything that he could. According to NBA insider Shams Charania, Giannis needed IV’s after Monday’s game. The Bucks controlled most of the game. But the Heat were led by a heroic fourth quarter from Butler that ended any chance at a Bucks victory.

However, Giannis’ stat line is one to be remembered as well. The Bucks star finished the game with a triple double. But will be forgotten because of the final score. Giannis has dealt with an injury during this series as well. Back in Game 1, Giannis took a hard fall that had him exit the game The injury caused Giannis to miss Game 2 of the series. However, the Bucks took care of business without their top star. Although, one may wonder if the injury is causing issues elsewhere with Giannis.

Giannis Antetokounmpo Giving The Bucks Everything

Even though the final score didn’t go Milwaukee’s way. It’s hard to find any fault in Giannis’ attempt to avoid a 3-1 series deficit. Now the Bucks must do something that has rarely been completed in the NBA playoffs. At one point in time, coming back from a 3-1 deficit was almost impossible. Now the feat has been done, giving teams like Milwaukee hope that it is possible. However, another performance from Butler like the one on Monday, would seal the Bucks fate.

Game 5 of the series will take place on Friday. Expect Giannis and the Bucks to come out swinging from the opening tip. However, the Heat would love the chance to end the series on Friday. Because a Bucks win would move the series back to Milwaukee until a winner is decided. Do you believe Giannis Antetokounmpo can give another 100% performance in Game 5? Who do you believe will win the series? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section. For the latest NBA news, keep it right here at HNHH.
