Signed 'Flu Game' Jordan 12 From 1997 NBA Finals Sold for $1.38 Million

Michael Jordan’s game-worn “Flu Game” Jordan 12s have been sold for over $1 million.

According to ESPN, the sneakers worn in the epic 1997 NBA Finals Game 5 against the Utah Jazz sold for a record $1.38 million during an auction hosted by collectibles marketplace Goldin.

Wearing the sneakers, Jordan dropped 38 points, 7 rebounds, and five assists before he was helped off the floor by teammate Scottie Pippen in one of the most iconic scenes in the history of the NBA. The shoes were owned by Utah Jazz ballboy Preston Truman, who Jordan took a liking to during the series due to receiving apple sauce from the boy before games. Truman would consign the shoes with Grey Flannel Auctions in 2013, selling for $104,765.

The appreciation rose 1,200% but fell short of the $2.238 million that the “Playoff” Air Jordan 13 sold for in April.

Share of Profits From Adidas and Yeezy Sales To Go to Anti-Defamation League

First Adidas and YEEZY Restock Under New Agreement Set for June 1

The organizations for donations from the relaunch of Adidas bulk of YEEZY products have been revealed. TMZ states the upcoming profits will be split between the Anti-Defamation League and other charities.

The start of the sale will begin at the end of the month. Adidas states a “significant amount will be donated to selected organizations working to combat discrimination and hate, including racism and antisemitism.” It is believed $1.3 billion in products remained when the split between Ye and Adidas launched.

In February, The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) recently reported that Kanye’s anti-Semitic rants were linked to 30 incidents in the US targeting Jewish people.

“These incidents — which include vandalism, banner drops, targeted harassment, and campus propaganda distributions — demonstrate the ongoing influence of Ye’s conspiratorial, bigoted rants,” the ADL wrote.

“Immediately following Ye’s antisemitic comments, which included inflammatory tropes about Jewish power and Holocaust denial, the slogan ‘Ye Is Right’ surfaced online in hashtags and antisemitic accounts. The ADL Center on Extremism has also tracked references to ‘Ye Is Right’ in instances of on-the-ground antisemitic vandalism and harassment nationwide.”

Jonathan Greenblatt, the CEO of the ADL, said in a statement to Billboard that Ye is inspiring people to commit “real-world acts of hate.”

“Kanye West’s repeated antisemitic remarks – and his dredging up some of the worst anti-Jewish tropes imaginable – doubtlessly are having an impact and inspiring people to commit real-world acts of hate,” Greenblatt stated. “As we have long maintained, celebrities and others who engage in spreading hateful tropes need to know their words have consequences. Unfortunately, Kanye’s decision to continue to peddle hatred against Jews is only giving encouragement to people who are already infected with hate.”

Following reports of a renewed partnership and UK page loading, Adidas India released a promotional image for the YEEZY line for a June 1 release.

The YEEZY brand is set to release the Yeezy 350 “Pirate Black,” Zebra 350s, Utility Black 500s, the Yeezy Foam Runner, and Yeezy Slides. According to Sneaker News, new Yeezy Styles never seen before will be introduced to the public.

Hypebeast, highlighted the sign of initial restocks of Yeezy products on the adidas UK website.

The report states the product pages for the YEEZY 350 BOOST V2 “Zebra” and the YEEZY 500 “Utility Black” will be of the launch. The site can spot both models by searching “Yeezy Trainers.” Currently, there is no specific date set for the launch.

News of the renewed partnership comes via the YEEZY MAFIA, a source of all things Yeezy, including his sneaker line.

Confirming the news, Reuters states Adidas CEO Bjoern Gulden revealed the renewed partnership to move some of the merchandise and donate some of the proceeds to international organizations.

A reported $1.3 billion in Yeezy-branded Adidas products are sitting in storage after the partnership was ended over the rapper’s antisemitic statements. Gulden stated plans for how Adidas will continue with the sale are not in place.

“What we are trying to do now over time is to sell some of this merchandise … burning the goods would not be a solution,” Gulden said.

Donating the sneakers was not an option out of fear the sneakers would reach the secondary market. Adidas stock is up 2% so far on the day. Ye would still receive 15% of the sales.

Speaking on the rapper, Culden stated about Ye, “As difficult as he was, he is perhaps the most creative mind in our industry.”

Kanye West Files Trademark For “YZY Sock Shoes”

Ye, formerly Kayne West, has lost a lot of his mainstream appeal in recent months. His anti-Semitic tirade on Twitter cost him a lot of fans, as well as his incredibly lucrative partnership with Addidas. Despite claiming he wanted to step away from the spotlight, the musician is still finding ways to generate controversy. This comes alongside news that Ye is still co-parenting his children alongside his ex-wife, Kim Kardashian.

In terms of controversy, much of it revolves around his various fashion lines. The Yeezy Season 10 fashion show had several elements that commentators noted were linked to Nazism and white supremacy. Furthermore, he just also recently ordered to pay $300k in the lawsuit surrounding YZY SHADZ. Safe to say the fashion side of things isn’t going great. But in the midst of all this, and his Presidential run, Ye is somehow still innovating.

Ye Files Sock Shoe Trademark

According to TMZ, Ye’s Mascotte Holdings Inc. submitted a trademark for “YZY SOCK SHOES”. The identifying information provides the additional description of “Socks; socks with leather soles.” This is not actually a new idea from Ye, who was seen wearing a similar product in 2019. However, little more than the trademark submission and the document identifier exist at this time. Ye and YZY are yet to make a public announcement about the upcoming project.

As for who might sell the Sock Shoes, if they ever hit the market. Addidas is out for obvious reasons. Meanwhile, other major companies and retailers will likely avoid working with Ye if possible. While he could sell them directly through the Yeezy brand, it’s unclear how much operational capacity the company still retains. However, Ye is set to make some money the coming months. It was reported that Addidas will sell off the remaining stock of Yeezys, which is valued at over $1 billion. Ye will make 15% of that sale per his contract with Addidas. How do you feel about sock shoes? Let us know in the comments.

Pulled a Webber: Stephen Curry and Warriors Survive Game 4 After Timeout Turnover

Fubqcr9WwAEudTV

With 40 seconds left in game four against the Sacramento Kings, Stephen Curry called a timeout when he could not inbound the ball and resume play. The only issue was the Golden State Warriors didn’t have any timeouts.

The result of the play was a technical foul and then a follow-up bucket, allowing the Kings to come within one point in the crucial game. Curry missed a floater in the following possession, but the Kings could not hit a game-winner. The Warriors escaped the game 126-125, shifting the series back to Sacramento.

In the postgame, Curry stated he didn’t realize the team was out of timeouts once they lost a challenge. According to him, head coach Steve Kerr took the blame for the moment.

“[Coach] took the blame for it, but I ain’t going to lie: I thought it was the smartest play in the world,” Curry said. “I looked at the bench, and everybody was shaking their head. It was an unfortunate situation.”

Many on Twitter connected the moment to Chris Webber’s time at the University of Michigan, which cost the Fab Five a championship run.

[WATCH] Are Silicon Shots And BBL’s A Trend Of The Past?

Screen Shot 2023 04 08 at 12.34.54 PM

The boom of the Brazilian Butt Lift, or BBL, has been a hot topic in recent years as obtaining a round-hippy bottom has become more popular. Back in 2012, I wrote a featured story for The Source Magazine–Issue #252 titled ‘The Bottom Line’ where I investigated the rise of the silicon injection phase. Now 11-years later we have witnessed the long-term results from women who have had to remove their injections.

But, in recent months, there appears to have been a shift where several of these butt-enhancement trends are being denounced and some labeled dangerous. A popular topic on social media has been ‘who’ has reversed their procedures. Some of the Kardashians have been hush about specific surgeries while celebrities, such as R&B singer K Michelle and recently Blac Chyna, have also exposed the dangers of these procedures.

Many influencers who once flaunted gargantuan booties are now sharing their journeys about botched surgeries and more. Winter from the Bad Girls Club showed her ‘Dorito’ shaped bottom and showed the horrific recovery process to remove. Blac Chyna recently dissolved the fillers in her face saying she was ‘tired of the look’. Now known as Angela White, the influencer revealed that her bottom would get hot and she would get sick from the silicon. Rapper Dream Doll who boasted about her ‘plastic’ body also shared her removal journey and opened up about going back and forth to the surgeon. She said, ‘it hurt and the pain made her want it out and she’s gone back 4 times to remove it’. Bad Girls Club Meghan James also explained how peer pressure encouraged her changes during her time on BasketBall Wives.

Do you think the trend will soon come to an end?

Today In Hip Hop History: Nike Dropped Air Yeezys In Retail Stores 14 Years Ago

Screen Shot 2023 04 04 at 9.20.12 PM

On this date in 2009, “Yeezy, Yeezy Yeezy just jumped over Jumpman.”

The above line comes from music and fashion mogul Kanye West’s “Facts” track from his The Life Of Pablo LP, which was actually released in 2016. West landed a new deal with Adidas for his Yeezy brand, but the original sneaker was released by Nike seven years prior.

Four years later, West switched brands, With his Yeezy sneaker gaining the lion’s share of its popularity under the Adidas umbrella. Despite the long-promised line of Kanye-Nike collaborative products like the Air Yeezy II Red Octobers, Kanye is severed ties with the company after producing just two shoes in five years.

“I said, ‘Well I need royalties.’ It’s not even like I have a joint venture. At least give me some royalties. Michael Jordan has 5 percent and that business is $2 billion. He makes a $100 million dollars a year off of 5 percent royalties,” West said. “Nike told me, ‘We can’t give you royalties because you’re not a professional athlete.’ I told them, ‘I go to the Garden and play one-on-no one. I’m a performance athlete.’”

Unable to come to a compromise, Yeezus jumped ship and headed over to a competitor, Adidas. “The old me, without a daughter, would have taken the Nike deal because I just love Nikes so much,” Kanye said in his Angie Martinez Hot97 interview. “But the new me, with a daughter, takes the Adidas deal because I have royalties and I have to provide for my family.”

[WATCH] Charlamagne Tha God Defends Anchor Fired For Reciting Snoop Dogg Lyric

Screen Shot 2023 03 28 at 1.19.02 PM

Charlamagne Tha God has come to the defense of a news presenter who hasn’t been seen on air after quoting a Snoop Dogg lyric during a live broadcast.

The presenter, Barbie Bassett of Mississippi-based NBC affiliate WLBT, has been at the TV station for decades, but was taken off the air almost immediately after using the phrase ‘fo’ shizzle my nizzle’ while they were having a discussion about the D-O-G-G.

The word ‘nizzle’ of that particular phrase set people off charging it was a racial slang but it’s unclear whether Bassett knew that.

While it hasn’t been confirmed if Bassett has been fired from her job, she hasn’t been on air or spoken out since the incident which has lead many to speculate the worst.

On his show ‘The Breakfast Club’, Charlamagne expressed his shock that something so seemingly insignificant – saying that phrase, obviously not racism or the N-word – would have led to her getting fired.

“She can’t say, ‘Fo shizzle, my nizzle?’ Oh, I guess cause nizzle is a derivative of n*****-.

“I’m saying that in context. I didn’t mean to say… I’m not using that word.”

Charlamagne seemed to argue that Bassett should have been given the benefit of the doubt, anyway.

He continued: “That’s the thing with hip hop, man. Hip-hop is so big and so mainstream, and it’s just like, who can consume it and who can’t?”

He asked, “That’s why?” to which his co-presenter DJ Envy said: “I don’t know if that’s fireable. You know what I mean? Who can repeat slang and who can’t? Who can repeat slang and who can’t? How old is that woman, yo?

“She might be old. She probably has no idea nizzle is a derivative of the N-word,” he added.

Bassett had been working for the station for 20+ years.

“She might not have any idea, she just thinks she sounded cool repeating Snoop Dogg.

“‘Fo’ shizzle my nizzle.’ That’s not a fireable offense. I hope she sues.”

DJ Envy also made comment on the fact that Bassett had been at the station for more than 20 years, but now has no job.

In the aftermath of Bassett’s absence, the station’s vice president and general manager Ted Fortenberry released a statement in which he said: “As I am sure you can understand, WLBT is unable to comment on personnel matters.”
