Lionsgate’s ‘1992’ In Theaters, Starring Tyrese Gibson, Executive Produced by Snoop Dogg

Lionsgate’s 1992, the upcoming action-crime thriller starring Tyrese Gibson and directed by Ariel Vromen (The Iceman) and co-starring Ray Liotta in one of his final film roles, will be released in theaters on August 30, with the legendary hip-hop artist Snoop Dogg boarding the film to executive produce through his Death Row Pictures banner. The announcement was jointly made today byAdam Fogelson, chair, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, as well as Gibson and Snoop Dogg.

Snoop Dogg said, “1992 was a life-changing time for me, from ‘Deep Cover’ to ‘The Chronic.’ But as things in my life were coming together, everything in LA was coming apart. 1992 is a heist movie that really captures all of that. This movie is about an LA moment. Ariel made an outstanding film that depicts this moment in time. From my first encounter with Tyrese in Baby Boy to the performance in 1992, I had to be a part of this. And it’s only fitting that the film come out under Death Row Pictures as Death Row is synonymous with LA culture in the 90’s, ya dig? 🎥🔥🎬”

“Snoop is one of the most beloved figures in entertainment and I could not be more thankful that he chose to join our project,” said Gibson. “Ray Liotta blessed all of us in life while doing this film. For 1992 to be Ray’s last offering, we all feel so fortunate to have captured such a masterful and chilling performance.”

“I’m grateful to have had a front row seat to the infectious enthusiasm and talent Tyrese has brought to the many projects we’ve worked on together over the years,” said Fogelson. “And my immense admiration of the cultural icon that is Snoop Dogg has lasted 30 years and counting. He clearly has found a personal connection to the material, which makes his team at Death Row Pictures the perfect partners.”

Starring Tyrese Gibson, Clé Bennett, Dylan Arnold, Christopher A’mmanuel, Michael Beasley, Ori Pfeffer, Tosin Morohunfola, Oleg Taktarov, with Scott Eastwood, and Ray Liotta in one of his final film roles, 1992 is directed by Ariel Vromen from a screenplay by Sascha Penn and Ariel Vromen and a story by Sascha Penn. It is produced by Ariel Vromen, Andreas Rommel, Maurice Fadida, Sascha Penn, and Adam Kolbrenner.

In 1992, Mercer (Tyrese Gibson) is desperately trying to rebuild his life and his relationship with his son (Christopher A’mmanuel) amidst the turbulent 1992 LA uprising following the Rodney King verdict. Across town, another father and son (Ray Liotta and Scott Eastwood) put their own strained relationship to the test as they plot a dangerous heist to steal catalytic converters, which contain valuable platinum, from the factory where Mercer works. As tensions rise in Los Angeles and chaos erupts, both families reach their boiling points when they collide in this tense crime-thriller.

Watch: Childish Gambino’s Trailer for New Film ‘Bando Stone & The New World’

Donald Glover who also goes by the rap moniker Childish Gambino, just unveiled the trailer for his upcoming movie Bando Stone & The New World during the 2024 BET Awards.

If you watched the show live, a brief version of the trailer aired during the event’s commercials, while Gambino posted a full two-minute version on his YouTube channel an hour earlier. The trailer had already been seen by some in theaters and quickly circulated online a few days ago. That’s called a rollout. As a companion to the film, Gambino plans to release a soundtrack to accompany the movie.

Onto the trailer, Gambino portrays Bando Stone, a renowned musician navigating a desolate world devoid of people. He encounters a woman and her child, and together they traverse a dystopian, post-apocalyptic landscape filled with giant squids and ominous emu-like birds. The film currently does not have a release date.

If unfamiliar, Glover began his latest musical endeavor, which he has hinted may be his last under the Childish Gambino moniker, in April. During a discussion on his Gilga project, he announced two new Childish Gambino albums. The first album, an updated version of his surprise release 3.15.20, quietly released in March 2020, was reissued in May under its original title, Atavista.

He has also announced dates for The New World Tour, an extensive tour across North America, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand, set to begin in August.

“I’m really excited to be here but I wanted to get some things off my chest first,” he said. “This isn’t personal but I just feel like I should have more BET awards. I’m serious. It’s the Black Entertainment Television Awards. How much more entertaining do I have to do? Because it’s just the math of the fact. It doesn’t really make sense. I have more Grammys than Will Smith, which makes no sense, but I have the same amount of BET awards as Sam Smith. Does that make sense to you guys? Me and Sam Smith are neck and neck at the Black Entertainment Television… If I have to do ‘Baby Boy’ or something, just let me know. I’ll have Jonathan Majors put me in a headlock, shave my head, I’ll do it.”

Denzel Washington in Gladiator 2: First Look at Sequel from Paramount Pictures

Okay we had no idea Denzel Washington was starring in “Gladiator 2” but Vanity Fair has unveiled new first-look photos and now we’re hooked. The images feature Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn, and Denzel Washington. “Gladiator 2,” is set to release on November 22, 2024 from Paramount Pictures.

Check out a snapshot of the film’s characters, in the film’s story that takes place well after the original Russell Crowe story:

  • Paul Mescal is Lucius, Maximums’ son from the first film, who hasn’t been seen in 15 years and is presumed dead. This likely leads into him becoming a gladiator where, like his father, no one knows who he was in his past life.
  • Pascal is a military commander turned gladiator as punishment.
  • Denzel is a former slave who is now a wealthy merchant who does not like the emperors.
  • Quinn is co-emperor Caracalla who is supposedly trying to portray a character differently from Joaquin Phoenix’s Commodus.
  • Connie Nielsen appears to be the lone returning major cast member from the original, playing Lucius’ mother Lucilla.

Check this out, it’s uncertain if Phoenix or Crowe will appear in flashbacks or dream sequences, since they both pretty much died, but the focus is primarily on the new cast and Mescal’s character, Lucius. Photos show Mescal fighting Pascal, suggesting either Pascal’s early demise or a climactic battle scene. Typically, one of the characters should be dead by the end of such a fight, unless a thumbs-up from the emperor spares them.

As for Ridley Scott, who directed the original “Gladiator,” he has had a varied filmography in recent years. His last major film, “Napoleon,” received mixed reviews, and his press tour sparked debate over the importance of historical accuracy. However, Scott has also directed “The Last Duel,” “The Martian,” and episodes of “Raised by Wolves,” showing his versatility.

Eddie Murphy Recalls Declining Coke with Late Comics Robin Williams and John Belushi Back in the Day

“Beverly Hills Cop” acting icon Eddie Murphy, credits late great comedians Robin Williams and John Belushi with steering him away from drugs his early career. In an appearance on The New York Times’ “The Interview” podcast, the 63-year-old actor – full stop, Eddie does NOT look 63! – recounted a night out in the 1980s with the comedy legends when he was just 19.

Here’s how Murphy recalled the moment, “It was me, [John] Belushi, and Robin Williams. They started doing coke, and I was like, ‘No, I’m cool.’” Reflecting on his decision, he said, “I wasn’t taking some moral stance. I just wasn’t interested in it. To not have the desire or the curiosity, I’d say that’s providence. God was looking over me in that moment.”

What’s refreshing to hear is as an up-and-coming comedian, Murphy avoided anything that could derail his success. “When you get famous really young, especially as a Black artist, it’s like living in a minefield. At any moment, you could step on a mine. Any moment, something could happen that can undo everything,” he explained. He admitted, “But I was oblivious to the fact that I was in a minefield.”

Murphy then went on to elaborate, “Just imagine being a young person and having the world placed at your feet. Nobody’s saying ‘no,’ and everybody wants to be around you. You try all types of s— and get caught up in all kinds of stuff. That’s what destroys people.”

If you’re unfamiliar John Belushi who was known for his iconic roles in “The Blues Brothers” and “Animal House” died of an overdose in 1982 at the age of 33, and Robin Williams who needs no reintroduction died by suicide in 2014 after battling severe depression. He was 63.

What’s interesting albeit somber, Murphy mentioned that the tragic ends of iconic entertainers like Prince, Michael Jackson, and Elvis Presley serve as cautionary tales for him. “I don’t drink. I smoked a joint for the first time when I was 30 years old. The extent of drugs is some weed,” he revealed.

Watch: New ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Trailer Introduce Classic X-Men Villain, Sabretooth

The newest trailer for the upcoming film “Deadpool & Wolverine”, is here. 

Out the gate, Wolverine fiercely growls, “Who’s next?” The answer comes in the form of a classic X-Men villain, none other than Sabretooth, who’s Wolverine’s long-standing adversary entering in dramatic fashion. What happens next? Hmm, let’s just say a few swords are pulled out of Wolverine’s body, he throws an F-bomb at Deadpool and then charges, Sabretooth. Amazing.

Sabretooth, portrayed by Tyler Mane, first clashed with Wolverine in the 2000 “X-Men” film, engaging in a memorable battle within a snowy forest. This iconic rivalry is reignited in the new trailer. But let’s move on from that portrayal in an otherwise more than decent early Marvel film.

The footage showcases Deadpool offering some quips and advice while pulling swords out of Wolverine’s rapidly healing body. The climax of the trailer features Wolverine and Sabretooth charging at each other, leaving fans on the edge of their seats.

“Deadpool & Wolverine” is set to hit theaters on July 26.

Bill Cobbs, Veteran Actor in ‘The Bodyguard,’ and ‘Good Times’ Dies at 90

In sad news for the culture, Bill Cobbs, the veteran character actor with a 50-year career spanning nearly 200 film and TV credits, passed away on Tuesday at his Riverside, California home. He was 90 years old, confirmed his representative.

Cobbs’ diverse and extensive career included notable roles such as Alan Tatum in Season 3 of “The West Wing,” and Moses, the clock man in the Coen brothers’ “The Hudsucker Proxy.” He also portrayed manager Devaney in “The Bodyguard” alongside Whitney Houston.

Cobbs began his television career with the 1975 educational series “Vegetable Soup” on New York public television. He went on to appear in numerous acclaimed shows, including “The Sopranos,” “Good Times,” “Sesame Street,” and “My Wife and Kids.” In 2020, he won a Daytime Emmy Award for outstanding limited performance in the series “Dino Dana.”

In “The West Wing,” Cobbs’ character Alan Tatum received a poignant scene where Charlie Young, the presidential aide, informs him of a rediscovered letter he wrote to President Franklin Delano Roosevelt at age nine.

Cobbs made his feature film debut in 1974 with “The Taking of Pelham One Two Three.” His filmography includes “The Hitter” (1979), “Brother From Another Planet” (1984), “Air Bud” (1997), “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer” (1998), “The Muppets” (2011), and playing security guard Reginald in “Night at the Museum” (2006) with Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson.

Born in Cleveland, Cobbs served as an Air Force radar technician and worked various jobs before moving to New York at 36 to pursue acting. His first professional role was in “Ride a Black Horse” with the Negro Ensemble Company. He also performed in street theater, regional theater, and at the Eugene O’Neill Theater.

Thomas Cobbs, a relative, commemorated Bill Cobbs on Facebook, calling him a “beloved partner, big brother, uncle, surrogate parent, godfather, and friend.” The post read, “As a family, we are comforted knowing Bill has found peace and eternal rest with his Heavenly Father. We ask for your prayers and encouragement during this time.”

Amazon MGM just released the trailer for “Red One” a new holiday film with a new take on an age old genre – Christmas and Santa Clause. 

The film stars action superstar Dwayne Johnson, Chris Evans (Captain America) and Lucy Liu (Kill Bill). Also starring are Kiernan Shipka, Bonnie Hunt, Kristofer Hivju, Nick Kroll, Wesley Kimmel and J.K. Simmons.

Here’s the official synopsis from Amazon MGM:

After Santa Claus – Code Name: RED ONE – is kidnapped, the North Pole’s Head of Security (Johnson) must team up with the world’s most infamous bounty hunter (Evans) in a globe-trotting, action-packed mission to save Christmas.

In the director’s chair for “Red One” is Jake Kasdan helming a script penned by Chris Morgan, from a story by Hiram Garcia.

The Producers are Dwayne Johnson, Hiram Garcia, Chris Morgan, Dany Garcia,  Jake Kasdan and Melvin Mar. 

The holiday film will premiere at theaters on Nov. 15.

WATCH: New Trailer for ‘The Union’ Starring Halle Berry and Mark Wahlberg as Ex’s Turned Secret Agents for Netflix

Netflix has unveiled “The Union”, an action film starring Halle Berry and Mark Wahlberg. Directed by Julian Farino and written by Joe Barton and David Guggenheim, the movie promises thrilling dynamics and high-stakes drama.

Check out the official synopsis:

Mike (Wahlberg) is happy living a simple life as a construction worker in his native New Jersey –– until his long-lost high school sweetheart, Roxanne (Berry), shows up with more on her mind than romance. Knowing he’s the right man for the job, she recruits Mike on a dangerous intelligence mission in Europe that thrusts them back together into a world of spies and high-speed car chases, with sparks flying along the way.

Mark Wahlberg shared insight about his character’s deep connection to Berry’s character, Roxanne, in an interview with Netflix’s Tudum. “We always felt Roxanne had to be the love of this guy’s life; he stayed where he was because he was hoping that she would actually come back into his life somehow,” Wahlberg explained. “They had a sort of forbidden high school relationship, and he’d do anything to make her smile and anything to make her happy and to never let her out of his sight again. That’s his entire motivation –– her smile.”

Roxanne’s character, however, has a different driving force. As Berry described, “She’s a member of The Union, a top secret and slightly unorthodox government agency. The Union does the dirty work for the CIA and FBI. When you really need the job done, you call in this group of people. They’re blue-collar workers, everyday average people who get plucked by The Union to be trained to shoot and do combat intelligence and tactical weaponry.”

“The Union” also features a strong supporting cast, including Mike Colter, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Jessica De Gouw, Alice Lee, Jackie Earle Haley, and J.K. Simmons. Mark Wahlberg, Stephen Levinson, and Jeff Waxman serve as producers, with Jennifer Madeloff as the executive producer.

Pharrell’s Musical Movie Based on his Childhood Begins Filming at Virginia Beach Oceanfront

Filming for the musically themed film inspired by Grammy Award-winning artist Pharrell Williams’ childhood in Virginia Beach just began at the famed Virginia Beach Oceanfront, according to city officials.

The City of Virginia Beach announced via social media that there will be intermittent closures of the Boardwalk from 14th Street to 16th Street, including the Virginia Beach Fishing Pier, between 6 a.m. and midnight on June 25. Additionally, areas of the beach, including the playground at 15th Street, will be inaccessible during this time, although the bike path will remain open. On-street parking in the 200 blocks of 14th and 15th Streets will also be closed.

This filming is part of the “Untitled Pharrell Williams and Michel Gondry Project,” as confirmed by the Virginia Film Office to 13News Now. The movie is a coming-of-age musical set in 1977 Virginia Beach and is inspired by Williams’ childhood in the city’s Atlantis Apartments. Michel Gondry, known for “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,” will direct the film, with actor Kelvin Harrison Jr. playing the lead role.

“We’re thrilled that the project is here, spending millions, hiring our Virginia workers, and that the musical itself is going to put such a large spotlight on Virginia Beach, Pharrell’s treasured hometown,” a spokesperson for the Virginia Film Office said in an email to 13News Now.

Will Smith’s ‘Bad Boys 4’ Faces Backlash from Chris Rock Over Slapping Scene

Two weeks ago, “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” opened at No. 1 at the box office, signaling that fans had seemingly forgiven Will Smith for his infamous slap of Chris Rock at the Academy Awards in 2022. However, the film’s inclusion of a slapping scene reminiscent of the Oscars incident has reignited tensions between the two stars, with Chris Rock expressing his discontent.

In Touch reports that Chris Rock is unhappy with the slapping scene in “Bad Boys 4,” viewing it as a tasteless attempt by Will Smith to address the incident humorously. According to a source, Rock finds the scene to be a “cheap stunt” and is unimpressed by Smith’s efforts to turn the lowest point of his career into a joke. “Chris thinks it’s a pretty cheap stunt and he’s telling people how lame he finds it,” the source revealed. “It’s a classic case of Will making light of a horrific situation. Will’s playing the victim. It was the lowest point of his career, but that’s no excuse.”

Will Smith has publicly claimed to be a changed man since the Oscars incident and has seemingly referenced the slap in his latest movie. The directors of “Bad Boys 4” have acknowledged the parallels between the film’s slapping scene and the real-life event, describing it as a “meta experience.” They explained, “I think, you know, if you watch the movie, you see that there are some parallels between what’s happening in the movie and real life. You know, there’s – it’s almost like a meta experience that Will, in the character of Mike Lowrey, goes through with some themes.”

Despite attempts to move forward, Rock remains frustrated by the continued attention the incident receives. He has maintained a low profile since the Oscars but finds Smith’s attempt to turn the event into a comedic moment aggravating. “It aggravates him that people keep bringing it up,” the source stated. “He suffered as much as Will has and now Will has turned it into a funny scene in his movie. As far as Chris is concerned, it’s more proof that Will’s a total piece of work who deserves all the crap he’s gotten.”

Rock is reportedly not inclined to let the matter rest and might seek retribution in the future. “Chris isn’t going to let it go. If there’s a way to get back at Will down the line, he’ll take it,” the source added.
