Before the start of the doubleheader at Truist Park against the Atlanta Braves, the Mets knew one thing; all they needed to win was ONE game to clinch a playoff spot. Both teams knew that whoever won the first game would have an advantage since they will have already planted their flag in the playoffs. Well, the Amazin’ Mets did not have any intention of losing game 161 of their regular season, edging the Braves 8-7, scoring their eight runs in the last two innings of the game and securing their Wild Card berth. Atlanta clapped back in Game 2, shutting out the Mets 3-0 and securing their Wild Card berth as well.

The 89th win of the year by the skin of their teeth is right on time for a team that was 11 games under .500 before June. The Mets seemed to be losing their grip on a playoff berth when Mets MVP Francisco Lindor was benched for a back injury, but he was in the lineup at the right time in Game 1, blasting a two-run shot off Pierce Johnson in the ninth inning. Braves second baseman Ozzie Albies almost foiled the spoil for the Mets in the eighth, belting a two-bagger with the bases loaded off Maton.

The Braves had no plans of being swept at home to cap the regular season, jumping in the lead in the first inning. The Braves didn’t allow the Mets to score one run thanks to Grant Holmes who posted up 4Ks on the mound for Atlanta in four innings and RHP Daysbel Hernandez, who took the win.

Latino Heritage Month: Watch New Trailer for ‘Reggaeton: The Sound that Conquered the World’ From Daddy Yankee and Peacock

Screen Shot 2024 09 30 at 4.24.21 PM

Daddy Yankee has been busy lately. The Godfather of reggaeton is promoting a new docuseries Reggaeton: The Sound that Conquered the World which in addition to Daddy Yankee, will bring together some of the genre’s biggest names, including Ivy Queen, and Bad Bunny, to recount the rise of reggaeton from its underground roots to its current global dominance.

Get this, the docuseries will premiere on October 3 on Peacock. It’s being branded as a four-part series is directed by Omar Acosta (Mixtape) and executive produced by Daddy Yankee.

The series seems intriguing and long overdo considering the global impact of the music genre. It will trace reggaeton’s evolution from its early days in the barrios of Puerto Rico to its worldwide commercial success, driven by influential artists like DJ Playero, Bad Bunny, Karol G, Vico C, and J Balvin.

“The project is important today because reggaetón has come such a long way,” Acosta told Billboard. He recalls his early days in Puerto Rico: “I remember when I was a kid… I’d run into Playero, and I would ask him for tapes. First, he would give me mixtapes with hip-hop or house music. And once he gave me a tape of local kids singing, and it was very raw, but to see it go from that to this global phenomenon. It’s important to tell the story of reggaetón because I don’t know that people understand that impact… it’s been generational at this point.”

Diving deeper, Acosta collaborated closely with Daddy Yankee over the past five years to bring the docuseries to fruition.

“We would sit together when I was cutting and editing, and I would see him thinking of the process almost like making a song,” Acosta shared. “He’d tell me, ‘the rhythm in this part here should be more like this.’ It was a great collaboration.”

The documentary examines the various legal issues Brown has faced throughout his career, with a particular focus on his infamous 2009 assault on then-girlfriend Rihanna. Sabrina Carpenter Jokes About Eric Adams Situation: ‘Should we talk about how I got the Mayor indicted?’

Screen Shot 2024 09 30 at 2.48.50 PM

We didn’t have Sabrina Carpenter joking about Eric Adams on our bingo card. But that happened. Okay during her concert at Madison Square Garden, Sabrina Carpenter addressed the recent headlines involving her and the indictment of New York Mayor Eric Adams … Only in New York.

Okay, the controversy stems from Carpenter’s 2023 music video for “Feather,” which reportedly played a role in the mayor’s legal troubles. Smiling at the crowd, Carpenter joked, “Should we talk about how I got the Mayor indicted?”

Now get this, the moment, captured in a viral clip with nearly 100 million views, has further fueled speculation about the connection between the video and the mayor’s corruption investigation.

ourThe “Feather” video, filmed at a Brooklyn Catholic church, led to the dismissal of Monsignor Jamie Gigantiello. It was claimed that the video’s controversial content contributed to the scandal involving Mayor Adams. Small world.

ICYMI, on September 23, the New York Post reported that federal investigators subpoenaed the church where the video was shot, focusing on ties between Gigantiello and Adams’ former chief of staff, Frank Carone. While the church has not directly linked the video to the investigation, it confirmed full cooperation with authorities.

What’s more, the “Feather” video was released in October, it faced immediate backlash from the Diocese of Brooklyn due to its provocative and violent imagery. Church officials even re-blessed the location and reprimanded Gigantiello. In response, Carpenter maintained that she had received proper permission to film there. Judge Slams Prosecution in YSL Trial: ‘Really Poor Lawyering’, No Mistrial

Screen Shot 2024 09 30 at 2.28.56 PM

The YSL RICO trial of Young Thug and company just made headlines yet again. The Judge Paige Reese Whitaker, presiding has voiced her adamant frustration with the prosecution.

It all went down today (September 30), during the trial’s unfathomable 138th day, Judge Whitaker sharply criticized the state for allegedly prolonging the case and developing it in unclear and potentially deceptive ways.

Get this, her fiery remarks came in response to a new motion for a mistrial, which the defense has been pushing for throughout the trial.

“I can’t figure out what it is,” Judge Whitaker began in a scathing critique of the prosecution. “If it’s disingenuous… I mean, I don’t want to malign the prosecutor standing in front of me right now. So I’m not going to say the possible things that it could be. But it is baffling to me that somebody with the number of years of experience that you have, time after time after time, continues to seemingly purposefully hide the ball to the extent that you possibly can for as long as you possibly can. And I really don’t want to believe that it is purposeful.”

Oh but wait, she didn’t hold back when she continued, “But honestly, after a certain number of times, you start to wonder how it could be anything but that. Unless it is just that you are so unorganized that you are throwing this case together as you try it. And I am sorry to say that. But this case is being made much more difficult for everybody because of the haphazard way in which it is being presented. I’m going to take a recess for a few minutes. I’ll have a ruling when I get back.”

Despite her scathing criticism, Judge Whitaker ultimately denied the defense’s motion for a mistrial. While the defense may still attempt to file another motion, her strong rebuke of the prosecution indicates her growing dissatisfaction with how the case has been handled.

So anyway you slice it, the judge is clearly not happy about how the prosecution is handling the case but no mistrial means the show will go on.

Wack 100 Alleges Drake Trying to Legally Interfere With Kendrick’s Half Time Performance

Screen Shot 2024 09 30 at 2.22.21 PM

There’s rap beef and then there’s rap vendettas. We’re not sure where this one falls. But there are reports that Drake is allegedly trying to block Kendrick Lamar’s upcoming Super Bowl halftime performance through legal action, according to music manager Wack 100. This is coming from Wack, so let’s take it with a heavy grain of salt.

During a recent livestream, Wack claimed that Drake is attempting to get the NFL to “restrict” Kendrick’s performance, possibly due to a rivalry between the two rappers.

“He’s trying to get the NFL to restrict Kendrick,” Wack stated. He further claimed that Drake has served Kendrick with a cease-and-desist order to prevent him from performing his diss track “Not Like Us” during the halftime show.

Interestingly, it’s unclear how Drake could legally stop Kendrick from performing the track, especially since it has already been performed live and is available on streaming platforms. Wack did not disclose the source of his information but suggested that JAY-Z, who is involved in organizing the halftime show, would not allow Drake or the NFL to censor Kendrick.

ICYMI, Kendrick was recently announced as the halftime show performer for the 2024 Super Bowl in New Orleans. During the announcement, Kendrick was seen standing on a football field, throwing passes while making statements that some interpreted as subtle jabs at Drake. “Rap music is still the most impactful genre to date,” Kendrick said, adding, “I’ll be there to remind the world why. They got the right one.”

Still ICYMI, like were under a proverbial rock, during the promo video, Kendrick also said, “You know it’s only one opportunity to win a championship; no round twos,” which some thought was a reference to a clip Drake had previously shared, featuring NBA player Rasheed Wallace.

As we are sure most would imagine, Drake reportedly sides with those who believe Lil Wayne should have been chosen to perform at the Super Bowl, as the game will take place in Wayne’s hometown of New Orleans. Many fans had expected the New Orleans rap legend to take the halftime stage.

Sex Worker In Diddy Federal Racketeering Case Testifies Before Grand Jury

Diddy Partners with DJ Khaled to Announce New 'Diddy Direct' Platform

As if the snowball effect in Diddy’s federal sex trafficking and racketeering case couldn’t get any worse, the Bad Boy mogul could be facing more charges as a grand jury has heard sworn testimony from a sex worker.

According to a report from TMZ, jurors heard statements from another male escort who was allegedly hired by Diddy to be a part of one of his now infamous “freak offs”. The grand jury interrogated the sex worker about his travel and whether or not he crossed state lines. Questions were also asked about payments for sex, specifically whether the man was paid in cash or via wire transfer.

Prosecutors are speaking to more witnesses as they are considering filing more charges in a superseding indictment.

This is the second male sex worker to come forward in this case since Diddy’s arrest earlier this month.

Prosecutors met with a male sex worker last week who gave them video footage from one of the freak offs and signed a proffer agreement, meaning they can offer evidence without being at risk of incriminating themselves. According to the report, the man flew from Atlanta to Miami in May 2023 and had sex with an unnamed woman while Diddy watched and recorded the encounter.

The prosecution claim that these freak offs were not consensual and that Diddy used drugs, violence, threats and blackmail to force women into having sex, while also sending for the male sex workers across state and international lines.

Diddy’s lawyer Marc Agnifilo has concedes that all of the sexual encounters were consensual.

“These are consensual adults doing what consensual adults do. We can’t get so puritanical in this country to think that somehow sex is a bad thing because if it was there would be no more people,” he said to reporters.

When asked if Diddy would be taking the stand in his trial, Agnifilo said, “I don’t know that I can keep him off the stand. I think he is very eager to tell his story and I think he will tell every part of his story, including what you see on the video,” the attorney said. “I expect it’s going to be explained by the both of us.”

The baseball world lost an integral piece of history yesterday as it was announced that Osvaldo “Ozzie” Virgil Sr., passed away on Sunday. He was 92 years old.

The Dominican Republic native migrated to the Bronx in the late 40s, where Virgil graduated from high school then enlisted in the US marines from 1950-1952. I n1953, the 21-year-old Virgil embarked on his baseball career that included nine seasons in the major leagues with the Giants (two stints), Tigers, Athletics, Orioles, and Pirates. He was the first non-white player for the Detroit organization in 1958, 11 years after jackie Robinson broke the color barrier when he joined the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947. At the time, Virgil was considered the first Black Tigers player, but he was the first Dominican-born baseball player to play in the majors and the first Latino Tigers player.

Virgil’s son, Ozzie Jr., played 11 MLB seasons with the Phillies, Braves, and Blue Jays from 1980-90. He went to the 1985 All-Star Game with the Phillies and the 1987 All-Star Game with the Braves.

“He means a lot,” the Yankees’ Juan Soto said last year. “He was the first Dominican coming to the big leagues and opened the doors for a lot of Dominicans — and not only Dominicans, for all Latin players.”

In 2008 with the Detroit Free Press, the late Federal Judge Damon Keith said, “Ozzie was not white, but he wasn’t Black, and he was caught in between through no fault of his own.”
