On the heels of the monumental moment for breaking in Paris, Red Bull BC One announces its highly anticipated 2024 USA season, culminating at Los Angeles’ famed Venice Beach. A hub to some of the most transfixing street performers, the sunny backdrop of Venice Beach will welcome the nation’s best breakers to battle it out with one goal in mind – winning the illustrious National USA Cypher (aka the national championship) crown and advancing to the global stage to represent the U.S at the Red Bull BC One World Final in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in December.

“Before Paris, the biggest international breaking competition you wanted to win was Red Bull BC One, which has been around since 2004,” says two-time Red Bull BC One World Champion and Olympic medalist, Victor Montalvo, better known as B-Boy Victor. “Paris was the first look at competitive breaking for many people around the world, but the breaking scene has grown significantly since the 80’s. Red Bull BC One has not only played a pivotal role in my success and breaking journey, but it’s also the best event to tune into if you want a real look into the true spirit of the dance. I hope breaking’s new revival attracts even more fans to the competition.”

The official 2024 season will consist of two “Regional Cyphers” (regional qualifiers) to determine who will compete at the National Final in Los Angeles. The Regional Cyphers – Cypher East and Cypher West, will take place in Philadelphia on September 7th and Denver on September 20th, respectively. The breakers participating will comprise of “wildcards” (special invitees) and winners of the Red Bull BC One City Cypher series – local competitions in Detroit, Boston, Minneapolis, Miami and New York City that were open to breakers of all levels.

Sixteen b-boys and eight b-girls will take center stage at Cypher East and Cypher West, putting their best moves and creativity to the test, across a series of bracket-style rounds, where a panel of prominent figures in the breaking scene will vote on the regional champions to advance to the National Final.

With a new global audience having watched the best breakers battle it out in Paris, the 2024 Red Bull BC One season doubles down on its commitment to foster the continued growth of breaking, championing trailblazing figures and communities that have played an integral part in the dance sport’s rise to prominence and global acknowledgement.

Ex-NFL Player Sentenced for Brutal Death of Girlfriend’s 5-Year-Old Daughter

Screen Shot 2024 08 15 at 8.02.09 AM

Former NFL running back Cierre Wood has been sentenced to 10 years to life in prison for the horrific death of 5-year-old La’Rayah Davis, the daughter of his then-girlfriend. The tragedy unfolded in April 2019 when La’Rayah was taken to a Las Vegas hospital, where she was found to have suffered extensive abuse, including over 100 bruises, 20 broken ribs, and a fatal laceration to her liver.

Wood, who had a promising football career at the University of Notre Dame before his time in the NFL, was arrested and charged with murder shortly after the child’s death. He took an Alford plea in April, acknowledging that the prosecution had enough evidence to convict him without admitting guilt. He was convicted of second-degree murder and child abuse.

The investigation into La’Rayah’s death revealed a harrowing pattern of physical and mental abuse. Wood reportedly forced the child to undergo intense physical workouts, including sprints, sit-ups, and wall squats, as a form of punishment. He allegedly justified these punishments by claiming he was trying to get her “on the right path” because he thought she was “chunky.”

On the day of her death, Wood made La’Rayah perform sit-ups after she struggled to learn her letters and numbers. According to his statement to the police, she fell backward and hit her head, but when authorities arrived in response to his 911 call, they found her body cold and stiff.

La’Rayah’s mother, Amy Taylor, also faced charges in connection with her daughter’s death. She pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and felony child abuse as part of a deal with prosecutors. In July, Taylor was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole, plus an additional eight to 20 years for the abuse charge.

Young Buck Settles Debt with 50 Cent Through Bankruptcy

Young Buck Recalls 50 Cent Discouraging G-Unit From Taking Vitamin Water Deal

The long-running financial feud between 50 Cent and former G-Unit member Young Buck appears to have reached its conclusion. After years of public disputes and legal wrangling, Young Buck has finally taken steps to settle his debt to 50 Cent, thanks to a bankruptcy filing.

On August 12, court documents obtained by XXL revealed that Young Buck, real name David Darnell Brown, declared bankruptcy in Tennessee. In the process, the “Shorty Wanna Ride” rapper liquidated many of his most valuable assets, raising over $1 million. This financial maneuver allows Buck to repay a $250,000 loan from 50 Cent, which dates back to 2020.

In addition to settling the debt with 50, Buck’s bankruptcy proceedings will address a $190,000 IRS lien and outstanding child support payments, marking a significant step in resolving his financial challenges.

The tension between 50 Cent and Young Buck has been well-documented, with 50 often taking to social media to call out Buck over the unpaid debt. This latest development signifies a potential end to the public back-and-forth between the two former collaborators, closing a chapter in the G-Unit saga.

For 50 Cent, the resolution marks a victory in his relentless pursuit of the money owed.

Stephen A Smith Feels Steph Curry Should Not Have Lost Olympics MVP To LeBron

image

Stephen A. Smith is pretty convinced that Steph Curry should have earned the Olympics MVP Award over LeBron James after Curry’s pivotal role in leading Team USA to gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Coulda, woulda, shoulda.

Curry’s iconic performance included a crucial 3-point shooting spree in the final minutes of the gold-medal game against France. Maybe he has a point but again coulda, woulda, shoulda. Yes, we said it,

Despite Curry’s las minute main character energy, King James or Captain LeMerica as he was hilariously nicknamed, was awarded the MVP for his overall consistent play throughout the tournament. That part.

So the hot takes all went down on “The Stephen A. Smith Show,” Smith praised Curry, saying, “Steph Curry showed up, and I can’t say enough about him. Let me say this: LeBron James was the MVP. He’s the one who ultimately captured MVP for the Olympics, being the Olympics MVP. I thought Steph Curry deserved it. But under no circumstance am I throwing any shade on LeBron James for getting it because he was a model of consistency in these games.”

Smith made sure he highlighted Curry’s performance in the semifinals against Serbia, where Curry scored 36 points to ensure Team USA’s advancement to the gold-medal game. In the final against France, Curry scored 24 points, all from 3-pointers, including a perfect 4-for-4 in the last 2:48. Smith noted, “When you are as spectacular as Steph Curry was in a game against Serbia that would’ve denied Team USA a trip to the gold-medal game had Steph Curry not showed up and saved the day… what can you say? It was spectacular. Steph Curry was spectacular.”

Anywho, while Smith believed Curry’s late-game performances were deserving of the MVP, he acknowledged James’s overall impact: “The man, what can you say about LeBron James? He still seemed in better condition than practically everyone out there. LeBron James is just phenomenal. Major love goes to him for being the leader that he was, for stepping up the way he did throughout the Olympic competition. I can’t say enough about him. I’m not throwing any shade.”

We guess everybody has an opinion.

Usher Postpones Wednesday Start To Tour At State Farm Arena in Atlanta

image

“You Don’t Have to Call” if you were going to Usher’s highly anticipated concert at State Farm Arena in Atlanta on Wednesday, because it has been postponed.

According to an announcement from the venue and subsequent posts on Usher’s socials, the R&B and pop legend shared a statement explaining that he needed time to allow his body to “rest and heal.” Listen, we get it and we respect it but people wait weeks to see a concert and it always sucks when shows are cancelled.

Screen Shot 2024 08 14 at 4.32.35 PM

The “You Got It Bad” singer assured his die hard fans that his team would provide information about a rescheduled date soon.

Ge this, Usher is also slated to perform on Friday and Saturday (Aug. 16 and 17), and State Farm Arena has confirmed that all previously purchased tickets will be honored for the new date once it is announced.

Obvisouly, the announcement came as a disappointment to many fans, especially those who traveled from afar to attend the show. Sadly, a fan from New York shared her frustration, saying she flew in from New York City while her cousin traveled from Texas. She described the cancellation as “heartbreaking and disappointing.” Another fan all the way from Boston responded to Usher’s post, expressing the need for a refund due to the cancellation. Meanwhile, other fans are sending their well wishes to Usher for a speedy recovery.

This was an important date. Usher’s concert in Atlanta was set to kick off his Past, Present, and Future Tour. The singer-songwriter was scheduled to perform to sold-out crowds on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday at State Farm Arena. These three dates were not originally part of the tour schedule, but high demand prompted Usher to add them and start the tour in his hometown. He will return to Atlanta for three more sold-out shows in mid-October.

Still, Usher has had an outstanding year, following his Emmy Award-nominated Super Bowl halftime performance. He received BET’s Lifetime Achievement Award and was honored with the Phoenix Award at the Black Music and Entertainment Walk of Fame in Atlanta.

Hopefully he’s able to make up the date for his fans. We think he will.

Michael Rubin Says He Made the Call Not to Play Kendrick Lamar Music at Hamptons Party

No Kendrick Lamar Music Played at Michael Rubin's White Party, Attended by Drake

Michael Rubin’s white party again took over The Hamptons with entertainment and sports elite. Included among the guests was Drake, making one of his first public appearances in the fall out of Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” running the summer.

The Boy was decked in cream, not white, and delivered a performance alongside Lil Wayne. Making it more comfortable for him, no Kendrick Lamar music was played during the event.

According to TMZ, the house DJs stayed away from anything from Lamar.

And now Michael Rubin reveals he made that call. Appearing on The Breakfast Club, Rubin revealed that was his call. “I just didn’t think it was appropriate, so I said, ‘Hey, let’s not play anyone’s music that’s feuding with anyone here,’” Rubin said. “That was a me decision. I just thought it wasn’t the appropriate thing to do.”

A-list celebrities clad in all-white defined the Fourth of July celebrations at Michael Rubin’s annual White Party. Held in the picturesque Hamptons, the CEO of Fanatics and his partner Camille Fishel hosted one of the most anticipated summer events, attracting a stellar guest list from sports, Hollywood, and social media.

Fashion Highlights and Star-Studded Guests

Adhering to the event’s all-white dress code, guests showcased an array of stylish ensembles. Camila Cabello and Emily Ratajkowski dazzled in drapey mini dresses, while Teyana Taylor opted for a striking white maxi with a gold metallic belt. Winnie Harlow stunned in a beaded cowl-neck minidress with a hood, and Megan Fox chose a preppy eyelet mini. The guest list was strictly who’s who, including Megan Thee Stallion, J. Balvin, A$AP Ferg, Travis Scott, Gayle King, Kim Kardashian, Khloe Kardashian, Kendall Jenner, Tom Brady, Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Leonardo DiCaprio, Drake, Quavo, and many more.

An Evening of Gourmet Delights

Attendees arrived at Rubin’s gleaming glass beachfront home from around 5 p.m., with paparazzi capturing their arrival. Inside, the party unfolded across multiple patio decks and beachside tents. Rubin spared no expense on the catering, bringing in top-notch food from New York’s finest. Nobu served up wagyu beef and truffle salt rolls at a handroll station, Cucina Alba offered summer tomato salads, Lucali featured classic margherita and pepperoni pizzas, and Rao’s provided their famous meatballs. In keeping with the casual vibe, guests enjoyed an informal dining experience, grabbing bites at their leisure.

Unforgettable Performances

With Rubin’s connections in the music world, the night’s entertainment was nothing short of spectacular. Shaboozey kicked off the performances with his hit “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” joking about his tipsiness. R&B legend Mary J. Blige followed, delivering a powerful rendition of “Be Happy,” and Lil Wayne, impressed by Blige’s performance, hyped up the crowd. As the sun set, a stunning display of lights illuminated the sky, setting the stage for more music.

Nightclub Vibes and Surprise Acts

The festivities continued well into the night. After a dazzling fireworks display, the event transformed into a high-energy dance party. Musicians in the crowd took turns on stage, with impromptu performances from Alesso, Megan Thee Stallion, Machine Gun Kelly, Bryson Tiller, A$AP Ferg, and Travis Scott. The surprises kept coming, ensuring that the party showed no signs of winding down even as the calendar turned to July 5th.

Michael Rubin’s White Party once again delivered an unforgettable Independence Day celebration, blending high fashion, gourmet food, and stellar entertainment in a way only the Hamptons can offer.

50 Cent’s Thoughts On Chasing Billionaire Status And Why He’s in No Rush

image

50 Cent is getting to the bag. The 49-year-old legacy rapper, Hollywood producer, and entrepreneur, recently shared some interesting insight about his wealth and achievements with “Us Weekly.”

First off, his recent Final Lap Tour was a massive success, grossing over $100 million in ticket sales, a record in the rap industry surpassed only by Drake. We think Kendrick’s numbers are up there too but regardless, that’s nuts.

Outside of what originally made him rich and famous – music, he’s deeply involved in film and television through his company, G-Unit Film and Television. Add his spirits brand, Spire Spirits and he’s hovering over mogul status.

Additionally, he is expanding his media footprint as he is set to launch the 50 Cent Action channel in collaboration with Lionsgate in late 2024. This new FAST channel will feature the entire “Power” series from G-Unit and other films by 50 Cent. Whoops, sounds like he’s about to disrupt the streaming wars.

Out in Shreveport, Louisiana, 50 Cent is developing G-Unit Studios, which will become the world’s second-largest Black-owned production studio, following Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta. That’s a big deal.

So when discussing his net worth and whether he’s reached billionaire status, 50 Cent remarked, “I don’t quantify the money like that—I quantify the level of successes and wins I’ve achieved. I have far exceeded anyone’s expectations of me. I think my longevity and staying power in the industry have surprised many, but that’s what drives me further.”

He added, “[Besides,] I’m not in a hurry to reach billionaire status. I’ve reached a point where I don’t want anything I don’t have. What’s the rush? I’ve bought every car I wanted, multiple times over.”

Get this, 50 Cent also expressed caution about public perceptions of wealth, saying, “When people publicly say you’re a billionaire, they come for what you have. The IRS might suddenly decide they want 58 percent of your money. The ambulance chasers, the attorneys—it’s an army of ’em after you. Then you’d have to protect yourself because you have deep pockets.”

He also noted, “Being a billionaire won’t be much different from where I am now. At that point, you have to figure out how to give back. You start building a legacy, doing more sophisticated things. People remember those who helped others more than those who just accumulated wealth. They’ll ask, ‘How did he benefit others? How significant was his success if it didn’t affect other people’s lives?’”

Now all sounds good but as far as his personal measure of wealth, 50 Cent ended with, “Very rich. Because rich would mean that you’ve surrounded yourself with good people, that you’re happy, that you’re living a high quality of life. And that’s the important part.”
