The unmistakable G-Funk sound of Southern California created a style that in the ’90s shaped Hip Hop culture in its own image. Since its conception by Dr. Dre with The Chronic, G-Funk has become one of Hip Hop’s most unique and distinguished sub-genre and has spread West Coast culture across the globe. On this day in Hip Hop history, we celebrate the birth of the self-proclaimed King of G-Funk Nate Dogg.

Known for his smooth, soulful vocals on the hooks of some of the ’90s most popular G-Funk cuts, Nate Dogg became one of the most recognizable voices of the genre. His music career began in 1990 when he and his cousin, Snoop Dogg, formed the group 213 along with fellow Long Beach rapper Warren G. After gaining clout in the newly exploding California rap scene; the group recorded their first demo at the iconic V.I.P. Record Store in Long Beach. The demo was passed along to Dr. Dre, giving Nate Dogg and the rest of 213 a break they needed.

Nate Dogg’s first placement was on Dr. Dre’s classic debut, The Chronic, singing the outro to “Deeez Nuuuts.” He would sign with Death Row Records following the praise and acclaim he received after the album’s release. With Death Row, Nate Dogg continued to sing hooks and harmonize over tracks for various artists on the label. in 1994, he and Warren G released their first hit single, “Regulate.”

SOURCE SPORTS: Rich Paul Reportedly Not Here For Any LeBron to Warriors Trade Talk

Screen Shot 2024 08 18 at 5.34.26 PM

Before anyone gets carried away about the idea of LeBron James wearing a Warriors jersey, take a moment and relax. After Bron and Curry’s gold medal-winning performance at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, there has been a lot of chatter about the two future Hall of Famers paring up in the NBA. Like we said. Chill out.

According to reports, the Warriors attempted to make a blockbuster trade to acquire the four-time NBA MVP before last year’s trade deadline, but discussions didn’t progress far. A major reason for this was the strong opposition from James’ agent, Rich Paul.

So, NBA insider Marc Stein, who cited league sources in his latest Substack, revealed that Paul was “adamantly opposed” to James leaving Southern California for Northern California. Paul was particularly concerned about how the NBA community would perceive James if he switched teams for the fourth time in his career.

“Sources say Paul implored both teams to scrap the concept — despite some owner-to-owner dialogue between the Warriors’ Joe Lacob and the Lakers’ Jeanie Buss and Green’s determination to lobby James to push for relocation to the Bay Area — largely because he wanted to insulate James from potential backlash over switching teams for the fourth time in his career,” Stein wrote.

Aside from Paul’s opposition, the likelihood of LeBron moving to the Warriors seems even more improbable now that his son, Bronny James, was drafted by the Lakers this summer and signed a four-year contract with the team. It would pretty much negate the novelty of the father-son duo we pretty much entertained all summer long.

Polo G Weighs In On The Whole Drake v. Kendrick Thing

image

Another day, another opinion about Drake, Kendrick, beef, who won and all that chatter. Next up? Polo G. He recently shared his thoughts with DJ Akademiks.

When asked to pick a side in the feud, here’s how Polo G responded: He remained neutral.

But get this, when Akademiks asked about his favorite song from the battle, Polo G didn’t hesitate to name “Not Like Us.” So is that neutrality or picking a side?

Even Akademiks, known for his critical views on Kendrick Lamar, admitted that the song is a “bop,” acknowledging its success.

If you want to know the impact of “Not Like Us” whether you like it or not, it has been a milestone in Kendrick Lamar’s career, becoming his first #1 single since “HUMBLE.” That was in 2017 btw.

Anyway, the  diss track has garnered over 650 million streams on Spotify, making it the most-streamed diss track on the platform. It’s also earned a nomination for Song of the Year at the VMAs.

Back to Polo G. His latest album, “Hood Poet,” was released on August 9. The album features collaborations with artists like Future, GloRilla, and Offset. Although it has received mixed reviews from critics, it continues to resonate well with his loyal fanbase.

Wonder who is going to have an opinion next.

50 Cent Fires Back At Comedian Luenell’s Claims Of Lack of Female Comic Representation At Louisiana Show

50 Cent Swears of Sex for 2024, Calls it a 'Distraction'

50 Cent just fired back at comedian Luenell in the most 50 cent of ways.

“Proof you can’t make everybody happy,” 50 Cent said, making it clear that there was no ill intent. “I love Luenell’s work; that’s why I had them put her in “Ghost.” We saw her big ass was booked already, so we didn’t reach out.”

Luenell voiced her frustration during an interview with Comedy Hype News, criticizing the absence of female comedians in the lineup. Here’s what she said:

“Not one female comic was on the plane to the show,” she remarked. While expressing her admiration for 50 Cent and his work on “Power,” she went on “there are men and women in the audiences of these shows.”

Then she kind of wasn’t available anyway which is weird. Luenell said that she had other commitments, saying, “I’m booked and busy anyway.”

Alrighty then. The event in questions was the Humor & Harmony Festival, that took place from August 8 to 11 in Shreveport, Louisiana. 50 promoted it by saying “You don’t want to miss this, over 29,000 people have registered already. Go to HumorHarmonyWeekend.com. Boom. 36,000 Super Bowl of comedy, music. Wait till you see who’s confirmed.”

ICYMI, the lineup included Katt Williams, DC Young Fly, 2 Chainz, Tank, Monifah, Ray J, Bill Bellamy, Jeremih, French Montana, DaBaby, and Lavell Crawford.

Maybe 50 and Leunell will work together soon. Might be in their best interest and just get the bag. Maybe an all female comedy show is in their future. Just saying.

‘Drake curse’ Is Undefeated: Drizzy Loses Massive Wager On Israel Adesanya Who Loses UFC 305 to Du Plessis

Drake can’t get a break in gambling that is. Drizzy Just took another gambling ‘L’ this time after losing a bet on Israel Adesanya to take down Dricus du Plessis.

The 6 God dropped $450K on the bet hoping “Last Stylebender” Israel Adesanya would pull out a victory versus UFC middleweight champion Dricus du Plessis. The fight was the main event, and unfortunately for Drake, Adesanya was out of commission after a vicious choke submission.

Many Drake haters who watch his losses, probably keep up with how many times he loses in the world of gambling. Drake lost a bet on Israel Adesanya during his last UFC fight against Alex Pereira. Adesanya was knocked out just minutes before the end of the match.

Drake did manage to recoup some of his losses later, though, when he placed a $400K bet on Adesanya to knock out Pereira in their rematch, which proved to be a winning bet.

It’s up and down with sports betting but we think Drake can afford it. Low key play money for him TBH.

R&B singer Brian McKnight has found himself in the midst of a public relations crisis, as fans continue to express their discontent over his treatment of his three eldest children. For months, an unofficial boycott has been building against McKnight, with former fans refusing to support his music and live performances. The controversy recently reached a tipping point when McKnight was forced to cancel a show in Detroit after ticket sales plummeted, reportedly due to the ongoing boycott.

The discontent among fans stems from what many perceive as McKnight’s mistreatment of his older children, a situation that has been widely discussed and criticized on social media. The fallout has been severe, with fans voicing their disappointment in the singer, whose soulful ballads once made him a beloved figure in R&B.

The impact of the boycott is now being felt in McKnight’s concert ticket sales. According to recent reports, tickets for his upcoming shows have been significantly discounted, with some selling for nearly half off on platforms like Groupon. For example, tickets for a 2024 show in Washington, D.C., are now being offered at a reduced price on Groupon .

The steep discounts on McKnight’s concert tickets are a clear indication of the backlash he is facing. Despite his efforts to continue performing, the public’s response to the family controversy seems to be having a tangible effect on his career.

This situation serves as a reminder and the influence of social media in holding public figures accountable. As McKnight navigates this turbulent period, it remains to be seen how—or if—he will address the concerns of his estranged fans and attempt to rebuild his once-stellar reputation.

The Dream Seeks Dismissal of Lawsuit Filed by Former Protégée, Denies Allegations

the dream

Music producer The Dream, known for his work with artists like Beyoncé, has filed to have a lawsuit dismissed that was brought against him by his former protégée, Chanaaz Mangroe. The lawsuit, filed two months ago, accuses The Dream of using his industry connections and deceit to lure Mangroe into a manipulative relationship.

The Dream, whose real name is Terius Gesteelde-Diamant, has strongly denied these allegations, insisting that their relationship was consensual and accusing Mangroe of fabricating a “false and defamatory narrative” for financial gain. According to court documents obtained by In Touch, The Dream’s legal team has moved to dismiss the lawsuit, arguing that the claims are baseless and part of a strategy to tarnish his reputation and extract a settlement.

“[Chanaaz] and her counsel, Wigdor LLP, are using the judicial system to propagate a false and defamatory narrative about [The Dream], a highly respected Black musician in the arts industry, for their own financial gain and to his extreme detriment—and to the destruction of everything he has ever done as a musician and as a Black figure that the current and new art generations look up to,” The Dream’s attorney stated in the court filings.

The lawsuit alleges that The Dream, 46, engaged in sexual assault and manipulation, but The Dream has firmly denied these accusations. His attorney emphasized that The Dream has a history of advocating for women and supporting women’s causes, and that Mangroe’s claims are not only untrue but also damaging to his personal and professional life.

“[Chanaaz] and [The Dream] were two adults who engaged in a brief and consensual courtship. There was never non-consensual sex between them; there was never sex exchanged for money or other commercial gain; and [The Dream] never abused [Chanaaz] in any way,” the attorney wrote. The documents further assert that Mangroe continued to seek out The Dream for years after their relationship ended, including soliciting sex and other favors, even when he refused.

As the case develops, it highlights the ongoing issues of power dynamics and allegations of misconduct in the entertainment industry. The Dream’s legal team is pushing for the lawsuit’s dismissal, but the court’s decision on the matter is still pending.
