'Barbie' Songs Streamed 52 Million Times on Spotify During Film's Opening Weekend

The Barbie Album is taking the music world by storm as Spotify users streamed its 19 songs a staggering 52 million times in just the opening weekend after its release. According to Music Industry How To, the track “Barbie World” by Nicki Minaj, Ice Spice, and Aqua emerged as the most streamed song from the movie’s official album, accounting for 10.3 million of the total streams. Aqua, in particular, experienced a significant boost in popularity, almost doubling its Spotify following within three weeks.

Dua Lipa’s hit single “Dance The Night” just missed out on the title of the most streamed Barbie song, gaining an impressive 10,120,370 streams during the opening weekend and reaching a total of 127,408,954 streams since its release in May. Not far behind, Billie Eilish’s “What Was I Made For” accrued 9,608,211 additional streams over the movie’s opening weekend, totaling 30,546,883 streams overall.

Interestingly, Aqua, known for its iconic song “Barbie Girl” from 1997, experienced a massive surge in listeners, going from 13.5 million to 25.2 million in just three weeks, with almost two million new listeners joining during the opening weekend of the Barbie movie.

Additionally, Ryan Gosling, who stars as Ken in the movie, witnessed a remarkable increase in Spotify listeners, gaining 941,474 new followers within three days, surpassing established artists like Nicki Minaj, Lizzo, and Dua Lipa. The album’s success reflects Barbie’s immense popularity and cultural significance, captivating audiences with its catchy tunes and engaging performances.

The beauty world is also experiencing a Barbie revolution as the iconic doll’s influence permeates beauty and wellness routines. Consumers are embracing Barbie-pink nail art, “Barbie blonde” hair color, and themed services that evoke nostalgia in their self-care practices.

Barbie opens this weekend with $155 million in ticke sales across North America. According to Variety, the film now has the biggest opening of the year and broke the weekend reocrd for a film directed by a woman. Barbie opened in 4,243 locations across the continent.

Fresha, the leading marketplace and booking software for the beauty industry, has witnessed an astounding 508% year-on-year increase in Barbie-inspired services offered by salons. From June 19th to July 19th, 2023, bookings for Barbie-themed treatments like pink hair and nails and platinum blonde makeovers rose by 83% year-on-year.

Google Trends data shows a remarkable 323% surge in “Barbie” searches from July 2022 to July 2023, largely fueled by the highly anticipated Barbie movie release, which has significantly influenced global beauty and wellness trends.

Latto has notched a first for Hip-Hop in 2023. Latto‘s new collaboration with Jung Kook, “Seven,” lands at the top of the Billboard Hot 100, making her the first rapper to get to that position in 2023. It is the first No. 1 of Latto’s career.

Latto celebrated the achievement on her Instagram story: “Oop am I a bora girl now? 🙈 Forever grateful!! Thanks JK for trusting me! Armypots up +10000.”

Jung Kook is a K-pop star and a member of the group BTS. The single is believed to be the first from his forthcoming album.

Other rappers in the Billboard Hot 100 top ten are Gunna at No. 6 with “fukumean” and Lil Durk and J. Cole’s collaboration “All My Life.”

“Seven” also tops the global Spotify chart with 10.937 million streams.

Carlee Russell Fired From Alabama Spa She Worked Before Disappearing

Carlee Russell has owned up to pulling a kidnapping hoax. Russell was supposed to meet with the police on Monday. Instead, she submitted a statement through her attorney admitting none of the kidnapping stories she told was true.

Hoover Police Chief Nick Derzis read a statement from Emory Anthony read a statement from Russell on Monday:

“My client has given me permission to make the following statement on her behalf. There was no kidnapping on Thursday, July 13, 2023. My client did not see a baby on the side of the road. My client did not leave the Hoover area when she was identified as a missing person. My client did not have help in this incident, that this was a single act done by herself. My client was not with anyone or any hotel with anyone from the time she was missing. My client apologizes for her actions to this community, the volunteers who were searching for her, to the Hoover Police Department and other agencies as well as to her friends and family. We ask for your prayers for Carlee as she addresses her issues and attempts to move forward, understanding that she made a mistake in this matter. Carlee, again, asks for your forgiveness and prayers.”

Also releasing a statement was Russell’s ex-boyfriend, Thomar Latrell Simmons, who stated he was “blindsided” and “disgusted.” He wrote, “Thank you to all my family, friends, and the nation for support through this. “The severity in this matter has not been overlooked, and I deeply respect the genuine support shared during this situation.”

With the confirmation of a hoax, the question now becomes whether Russell will face charges. According to AL.com, no charges are currently lined up against Russell, but a meeting will occur between Derzis and Anthony about the case. In addition, Derzis is speaking with Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office in the Bessemer Cutoff about criminal charges.

Potential charges could be false reporting to law enforcement authorities or falsely reporting an incident. There is also the possibility of a Class A misdemeanor of false reporting to law enforcement, which is punishable by up to one year in county jail or a year of labor in the county.

Tafari Campbell, a former White House sous chef under former president Barack Obama, has died. Campbell eventually became The Obamas’ personal chef.

According to PEOPLE, on Monday, Campbell died in a paddleboarding accident near the Obama estate at Matha’s Vineyard. He was 45 years old. Campbell was recovered from a pond by divers.

“MSP Underwater Recovery Unit divers made the recovery after the victim’s body was located by Massachusetts Environmental Police Officers deploying side-scan sonar from a boat,” Massachusetts State Police said in the release, noting the recovery was made “approximately 100 feet from shore at a depth of about eight feet.”

The Obamas were not present then but shared a tribute after the news broke, calling him “a beloved part of our family.”

“When we first met him, he was a talented sous chef at the White House — creative and passionate about food, and its ability to bring people together. In the years that followed, we got to know him as a warm, fun, extraordinarily kind person who made all of our lives a little brighter.

That’s why, when we were getting ready to leave the White House, we asked Tafari to stay with us, and he generously agreed. He’s been part of our lives ever since, and our hearts are broken that he’s gone.

Today we join everyone who knew and loved Tafari — especially his wife Sherise and their twin boys, Xavier and Savin — in grieving the loss of a truly wonderful man.”
