Elliott Wilson Apologizes To SZA For “Ignorant” Response To “One Of Them Days”

Elliott Wilson has apologized to SZA for his initial response to her new film with Keke Palmer, One of Them Days, as well as his criticism of her interviewing Kendrick Lamar for Harper’s Bazaar. When SZA shared a trailer for One of Them Days, Wilson wrote back on X (formerly Twitter) “Why?” Discussing their relationship on his show, The Bigger Picture, Wilson explained that he regrets the post.

Wilson began by revealing that he already apologized to SZA privately, but wanted to do so publically as well. “I’m a big SZA fan musically. I love the last album,” he began. “She teased more music coming, even though this record’s still top 20. She doesn’t have to give us no music anymore. She’s still on top. I selfishly thought we were getting more music. I had no knowledge that this movie was coming out. And I would assume if she’s in a movie, she’s only doing like a cameo or something. I didn’t know it was like a real thespian-type thing that she’s behind. I didn’t know Issa Rae was part of it. I didn’t know any of this sh*t.”

Wilson continued: “So, I ignorantly reacted to it. ‘Why we rocking to this? Where’s the slaps?’ That was my initial mentality, but that was ignorant. They tore my ass up on Twitter. ‘I don’t want Black women to win, make movies,’ and all this type of stuff. So, all of that got real nasty, but I already apologized. I just wanna say publically, I was definitely wrong for that.”

Elliott Wilson Apologizes To SZA

One of Them Days will be hitting theaters next January. It’s directed by Lawrence Lamont and written by Syreeta Singleton. Check out Elliott Wilson’s full apology to SZA below.

The Report That Claimed Future And Drake Squashed Their Beef Is False, According To Akademiks

Fans of Drake and Future’s reconciliation celebration parade was short-lived. According to Uproxx’s Elliott Wilson the former collaborators mended their friendship.

During The Bigger Picture‘s latest episode (viewable here), Wilson claimed that the hip-hop heavy weights’ feud was official over. “I have it on good authority that Drake and Future have at least gotten on the phone and resolved their differences,” he said.

However, shortly after HipHopDX posted the confessional clip (viewable here), another industry figure came out to refute the remark. On his own platform, online commentator Akademiks shared insider knowledge to the contrary. “I’ve spoken to extremely credible sources on both sides, and Drake and Future have not been on the phone,” he said (viewable here courtesy of NFR Podcast).

Both Wilson and Akademiks have deep ties to rappers and their close affiliates. So, this has quickly become a case of he said, he said. Users across X (formerly Twitter), have expressed their frustration with these opposing recounts.

“See now this is what we aren’t gonna do, have two different stories over and over again. We need answers,” wrote one user.

Others have begun to question why Drake and Future were at odds to begin with. Hip-hop fans can understand Drake’s disdain for Metro Boomin, Kendrick Lamar, and Asap Rocky. But the supposed tension between Drake and Future has some stumped.

Elliott Wilson Reveals Drake & Future Have Officially Settled Their Differences

Last month, Young Thug’s official X account shared an interesting message, prompting big reactions among fans. “.@Drake @1future @MetroBoomin we all bruddas. Music aint the same without us collabin,” the post read. Within hours, Future appeared to co-sign the message by retweeting it, leaving social media users in shambles.

Of course, Drake’s been at the center of plenty of beef in recent months, which was ignited by Future and Metro Boomin’s We Don’t Trust You collab with Kendrick Lamar, “Like That.” Future’s retweet was the first glimmer of hope fans saw that he and Drake could actually potentially reconcile. This sparked a debate about whether or not they should, and most agreed that they’d love to hear them team up again.

Elliott Wilson Discusses Drake & Future’s Reconciliation

Fortunately, it looks like that may not be off the table. During a recent episode of The Bigger Picture, Elliott Wilson revealed that Drake and Future have finally been able to work out their differences over the phone. “I have it on good authority that Drake and Future have at least gotten on the phone and resolved their differences,” he stated. Wilson also suggested that the reconciliation could have something to do with Young Thug’s aforementioned Tweet and that Drake has yet to make amends with Metro Boomin.

“I think that helped the energy when Future reposted [Young Thug’s Tweet],” he explained. “There’s no trust there still with Metro, but I do believe that Drake and Future are back on the same page.” Wilson went on to note that the reconciliation doesn’t come as too much of a surprise considering the rappers’ history. “Obviously we know that Drake and Future have so much history. Drake was the one saying, ‘We never really went through it.’ [Future] got the lightest of all the taps in the one v. 20, so it makes sense in some capacity,” he concluded. What do you think of Elliott Wilson claiming that Drake and Future have settled their differences? Do you hope this means they’ll work together sometime soon? Elliott Wilson’s latest podcast episode, Elliott Wilson Experience, features an in-depth conversation with acclaimed hip-hop talent manager Ian Schwartzman. Known for managing some of the genre’s biggest names like Joe Budden, DJ Premier, Papoose, Royce Da 5’9, and Remy Ma, Schwartzman is also the driving force behind the Joe Budden Podcast Network.

During the episode, Elliott and Ian explore the behind-the-scenes world of podcasting and Ian’s thoughts on the industry’s current state. Schwartzman believes that the “golden age” of hip-hop podcasting has passed, saying, “It’s washed up, it’s done. The bubble has burst.” He criticizes the money-driven nature of the industry, stating that many creators were only chasing checks during the hype, but now “only the real are left.”

Schwartzman also reflects on being the first to secure a podcasting deal with Spotify in 2018. He recalls how he initially approached Spotify in 2015 but was rejected with the response, “We don’t do podcasting. We don’t even know how we would service this.” Despite the eventual end of the partnership, Schwartzman shares that he has no regrets, emphasizing how the deal helped pave the way for other podcasts and creators to thrive. “It helped position so many other shows and creators to go on and be successful,” he notes, marking the impact of the Joe Budden Podcast’s success on the broader hip-hop media landscape.

The episode offers listeners a fascinating look into the evolution of hip-hop podcasting and Schwartzman’s key role in its growth.

Elliott Wilson Tells A Bizarre Diddy Story About Mogul’s Interest In Tupac Shakur

The recent arrest of Diddy has a lot of folks looking back at his history under a different lens, and it’s important to note how damaging this can be. After all, the current scandal around accusations of human trafficking, racketeering, and more against him might misinform or wrongly characterize a lot of previous unrelated incidents. But that’s not the only controversy affecting Sean Combs. Apart from those allegations and supposed crimes, he also faces rumors that he was responsible for the murder of Tupac Shakur. On this note, Elliott Wilson recently told a bizarre story about the Bad Boy mogul on HipHopDX‘s The Bigger Picture program, looking back on an interaction he had with him.

As Wilson explains, he “never had a good rapport” with Diddy due to XXL‘s interview with Shyne after the 1999 club shooting which many believe the executive framed the former Bad Boy rapper for. Elliott Wilson was XXL‘s editor-in-chief at the time. However, he explained that – around the time of the Money Making Mitch mixtape in 2015 – the New York businessman reached out to him and suggested that he’d be down to talk about “some real s**t” for an interview.

Elliott Wilson Details Strange Diddy Interaction

“I was kicking it with him for a day or two on-and-off, just talking to him and stuff,” Elliot Wilson said of Diddy. “He acted like he finally wanted to give me an interview. I remember he said to me, he goes, ‘You gotta ask me some real s**t. You gotta ask me if I killed Tupac.’ And then he walked out of the room. [He] didn’t say it in a way like, ‘I did it.’ He said it in a way of almost like, ‘I want this moment of redemption, of me explaining the situation.’ That’s how I took it, but maybe I’m wrong.”

Nevertheless, Elliott Wilson also revealed “that was probably the last time [he] saw [Diddy],” so he ever got to ask the question. As for the Tupac murder case, Keefe D is currently facing trial and has been charged with his murder. His accusations that Combs offered him money to carry out the hit have not only never been confirmed, but outright denied by Puff.

Elliott Wilson Insists Drake Turned Down Super Bowl Haltime Show Twice

Recently, Kendrick Lamar was announced as the headliner for the Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show. Ever since then, rumors have been floating around that Drake was given the opportunity in the past but turned it down on multiple occasions. This was first revealed by Mal on New Rory & Mal earlier this week, though his co-hosts and viewers were immediately skeptical.

According to Elliott Wilson, however, these rumors are true. In a recent episode of HipHopDX’s The Bigger Picture, he shared details of Drake’s alleged Halftime Show offers. He claimed that Drake was first asked to perform at the Super Bowl in 2020 in Miami, and then the following year in Tampa. Of course, these Halftime Shows ended up being headlined by Shakira and Jennifer Lopez, and later The Weeknd.

Elliott Wilson Defends Jay-Z

Elliott Wilson Insists Drake Turned Down Super Bowl Haltime Show Offers Twice
Jay-Z and Drake perform at Yankee Stadium on September 13, 2010 in New York, New York.

“I have some intel. I thought Mal was capping, I thought he was lying about Drake turning down the Super Bowl. That sounded wild. It was like, ‘Four times? Who turns down the Super Bowl that many times?’” Wilson explained. “I have it on authority, multiple sources have told me that Drake has indeed turned down the Super Bowl. He actually turned down the first two [since JAY-Z’s NFL partnership] — the one in Miami and The Weeknd one… These guys are rivals with each other, they’ve had their good times and bad times with each other. But businesswise, JAY-Z wanted Drake on that Super Bowl stage and he turned it down twice.”

Wilson went on, defending Jay-Z amid claims that Kendrick’s headlining spot is a slight against Drake. “So now, years later, when the opportunity’s asked of Kendrick and Kendrick says, ‘Yes,’ is Jay not playing fair there?” he wondered. “Should Drake feel a way about it when he knows himself he’s had the opportunity to do it but he’s turned it down twice?” What do you think of Elliott Wilson insisting that Drake has turned down the Super Bowl Halftime Show multiple times? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below and keep an eye on HNHH for more updates.

Drake And Jay-Z Squashed Their Beef With Help From Elliott Wilson

Drake and Jay-Z had a close relationship early in the former’s career. The duo made two songs together, “Off That” and “Light Up” for The Blueprint 3 and Thank Me Later, respectively. Soon after, the two engaged in a friendly competition when Drake rapped about feeling that the throne was for the taking on “I’m On One,” a not-so-subtle reference to the Kanye West and Jay-Z collaborative album, Watch The Throne. In a Rolling Stone interview, Drake criticized Hov for the repeated art references. Jay-Z shot back on his freestyle over Soulja Boy’s “We Made It,” referring to Drake as “Miss Drizzy” and calling out rappers for never living their raps. The two patched the rift soon after.

In a new episode of The Bigger Picture podcast, Elliott Wilson explained how he helped get the two to squash their beef. “I got them back together, I got them to talk,” Wilson said. “Around the time when Drake was doing the tour with Lil Wayne and they had a show in Queens, Drake came backstage and hugged me and was like, ‘I spoke to Hov. We’re figuring it out.’ He was excited that they had finally talked,” he added.

How Elliott Wilson Helped Drake And Jay-Z Squash Their Beef

After the pair reconciled, Drake and Jay-Z collaborated again on “Talk Up,” a track from Drake’s 2018 album Scorpion. That is their most recent song together, though it does not seem that they have any leftover beef with each other.

Drake and Elliott Wilson have had their own falling out since then. The UPROXX Editorial Director and former head of Rap Radar is no longer on the best of terms with the Canadian rapper. Wilson claimed that he was “blacklisted” from Toronto after the battle with Kendrick Lamar. Wilson was highly critical of Drake’s tracks in Lamar’s direction, declaring Lamar the winner after “Not Like Us” dropped. The longtime hip-hop journalist was an early proponent of Drake. He had the opportunity to sit down with the rapper in 2020 for an all-encompassing interview. However, things changed in the last couple of years and got even worse this past spring. Maybe those two could use a third person to help get them to navigate their own issues with one another.

Elliott Wilson Cosigns DJ Akademiks’ Theory As To Why Nicki Minaj And Others Are Hating On Him

Elliott Wilson is one of hip-hop’s most celebrated media voices, but thanks to recent situations with Charlamagne Tha God and Drake, it’s clear that he’s also among the most hated-on. Nicki Minaj recently seemed to fuel this fire by insinuating that he’s too old to chase Internet headlines, and DJ Akademiks questioned why some people are so quick to dismiss him. “Why everybody hate Elliott Wilson, man?” Ak began his remarks, a clip of which Wilson posted on Twitter while saluting the streamer for his breakdown. “This has to be studied. So, this [Nicki Minaj rant] was about Elliott Wilson. Elliott Wilson, ironically, is 53. Recently we’ve seen Charlamagne get at him, Drake got at him, and now Nicki Minaj basically, in a roundabout way, is getting at him. I’m wondering why everybody hates Elliott Wilson so bad. I’m wondering if it’s a few things.

“Is it because of his age or is it because of his actions?” DJ Akademiks continued. “You know, again, I think Elliott’s kind of doing what a lot of other people are doing in media. Yeah, I really don’t know why people hate Elliott Wilson. I think he’s doing what the majority of media personalities are doing. One thing I’ll say is that it’s clearly working. Artists hope to control the media or control the thoughts of the media. And when you get artists upset at you, as long as you’re not operating in bad faith, you’re probably doing something right or you’re operating and giving your thoughts against the grain. Now, I think Elliott’s a little bit different, and I think this is why he’s been getting dragged by a lot of people. Yeah, he did an interview with these people.

DJ Akademiks Wonders Why Some Artists Hate Elliott Wilson

“Maybe that makes sense,” DJ Akademiks added. “Didn’t they [Elliott and Nicki] do a CRWN together? Oh, they did. Now it’s making a little bit more sense. Like, Elliott’s got those [Nicki Minaj and Drake] interviews, and I think people feel like he’s regressed. I had to come up talking about the artists ’cause them n***as ain’t want to talk to me. However, I think with Elliott, they looked at him like someone they respected. Someone who was a great journalist that would talk to them, and they feel like he’s now… I hate to use the word ‘regressed,’ but they feel like now he’s in the lane of, like, gossiping. That’s the only way I could size it up. Because I can’t tell why they all mad at him, you get what I mean?

“But I think these people look at him like, ‘Yo, I gave you an interview. I did an interview with you back in the day, like, yo, what’s going on?’” DJ Akademiks concluded. “Now, I don’t know what Elliott Wilson necessarily has said about Nicki Minaj recently or what he’s posted about her. However, it’s interesting to see how he’ll kind of take this and run with it. S**t, I think he’s in his villain arc. I think Drake said something about him, he went crazy on Drake. And listen, yo, Elliott reminds me of me when Big Ak had to come out, you feel what I’m saying? When everybody was playing with me. I think that’s the mode that Elliott Wilson is actually on. I’m wondering if he’s gonna address it.”
