Drake’s Mom Delivers Inspiring Speech That Has Him Ready To Take On UMG And Kendrick Lamar

The entire UMG/Spotify/iHeartMedia/Kendrick Lamar legal bout remains a looming cloud over Drake’s head. That’s especially true because this is effectively how the Canadian superstar is deciding to carry out his beef with Lamar. As you all know by now, he’s filed pre-action petitions against the aforementioned bodies (although not really his biggest foe) for defamation and artificially boosting streams for “Not Like Us.” As it stands, Drake’s time in court is on hold, as there was a scheduling mishap that caused for things to be shelved last-minute. In the end, the Texas hearing, which involves UMG and iHeart, will instead take place on January 13. It will surely be an interesting 24 hours following that date, but for now we will have to sit patiently.

However, what we can do is speculate and discuss what this could mean for Drake going forward. Overall, it’s pretty clear that nothing can truly stop The Boy from success. But we would have to imagine that if he loses this case or it doesn’t proceed toward a lawsuit, this could really put a damper on his image. However, we feel that even if he wins, the internet is still going to tear him to shreds for not actually confronting Lamar “head on.” We would also have to imagine though that the staunchest Drake supporters are going back him up regardless, though.

Drake’s Mom Encourages Everyone To Have Hope

Being such a big artist is certainly playing in Drake’s favor, as well as enduring a lot of backlash over the course of his career. Those fans are huge, but Drizzy feels that someone else is even more crucial to where he is now. That would be his mother, Sandi, who was also on his recent “Drizzmas Giveaway.” He especially feels he can withstand “one man to the biggest corporation” after a speech she gave.

Sandi focused on hope and how everyone needs to have some because life is unpredictable. She highlighted the example of one of the viewers receiving a gift during the event and how that could turn someone’s life around. But she made sure to say that it’s what you do with that prize going forward that really matters. Drake was so empowered after her speech that he went onto leave off with a message. “That’s my mother by the way. Any of you guys think you can finish me… It doesn’t matter, from one man to the biggest corporation in the world you guys will never done me. Are you crazy? The most powerful force you ever seen in your life, me and her.”

Drake Has A Surprising Take On Whether Or Not Hip-Hop Is Dead

Drake and Adin Ross seemed to have a great time during the Drizzmas giveaway stream on Thursday night (December 26), but they almost got into some deep conversations. After talking about Drizzy’s upcoming collab album with PARTYNEXTDOOR for a second, the streamer remarked that “rap’s dead,” which led the 6ix God to make a curious remark. “Oh, let’s not go there, let’s not go there,” he expressed. “You know what? Honestly, it’ll never die. […] What do you mean? […] Just, it was a weird NBA season. New season starts in, like, five days, anyway.”

Of course, Drake has plenty of reasons this year to have his problems with hip-hop, but it seems like not even a rap battle loss to Kendrick Lamar can fully fuel a cynical view. Sure, it has been a pretty wild and bizarre “season” for rap music, but the OVO mogul knows well that the core of the art form will always exist. This is also too vague to really make heads or tails of, especially without some further context. It’s the question of whether or not the genre’s “death” is about what new music is coming out or about what direction it’s heading in, and maybe these two were talking from these different perspectives.

Drake Speaks On The “Rap Is Dead” Narrative

Also, another reason as to why Drake fans found these comments curious is due to his legal battle with UMG and Spotify. In fact, he even made some other remarks about staying strong in the face of individuals and big corporations, so fans are reading between the lines a lot now. Regardless of where that actually goes in court, it’s undeniable that it sparked a wider conversation about the commercial music industry and how it’s affected hip-hop.

But Drake’s 2024 wasn’t the only thing that he made slight jabs about here and there, as he also teased Playboi Carti and Adin Ross for their disastrous stream attempt. He and Adin clearly just wanted to have a good time and give back to the die-hards, but they ended up giving us a microcosm of a lot of hip-hop discourse right now. Just goes to show that rap music is about much more than multiple isolated incidents or circumstances.

Drake Takes A Subtle Shot At Playboi Carti By Teasing His Strange Stream With Adin Ross

Drake and Adin Ross’ “Drizzmas Giveaway” went over extremely well when you look at it. The two pals were able to gift some insane prizes to some lucky winners. For example, viewers had the chance to take home tickets to Drake’s upcoming shows in Australia. Additionally, more tangible items were included such as money and expensive cars. Moreover, a lot of folks were tuning in throughout the evening. In fact, just within the first 60 minutes, 180,000 people were watching it on Kick. Being able to spread their wealth to others certainly made them smile and at the end of the event, the two took some time to appreciate their time with one another. However, it didn’t come without poking some fun at someone else.

Drake began by saying, “What an unlikely duo.” Adin then concurred, “Real s***… I’m so happy we’re close man.” Drizzy couldn’t agree more, and he acknowledged how important it was that they had met prior to the stream. He said that because, “Or I would have like came on your stream and like just had a hockey mask on and like tried to pretend to not know you.” This appears to be an indirect dig at Playboi Carti who ruffled Adin and many others’ feathers for acting strange during their stream back in February.

Are Drake & Carti Beefing Now?

He only appeared for about five minutes or so, barely said anything, and walked out with $2 million in Adin’s money. Drake never says Carti’s name directly, but his host knew what he was referring to. “Yeah, true… that was f***ed up.” Drizzy said that it wasn’t weird though, but rather what he would have done as well. That seemed to upset Adin a little, so it’s hard to tell what Drake was getting at with that comment.

Since that Carti collab, though, him and Adin’s relationship still seems to be in this weird gray area. The Atlanta rapper did thank him for praising his “ALL RED” snippet but then turned around and laughed at his expense during the Hitta J3 back-and-forth. If you remember Adin had started it by addressing Hitta’s claims that he wasn’t welcome in California due to his friendship with Drake. He even threated to sue the GNX guest, but Hitta clapped back with a response on social media. “No wonder Carti didn’t take your podcast serious. You n****s be kids with some fame & let it get to yall head Adin.”

Drake Awkwardly Quotes Infamous Kendrick Lamar Line From “Euphoria” During “Drizzmas Giveaway”

While we are way past the tense and exhilarating back and forth between Drake and Kendrick Lamar, we are still getting some little jabs here and there. Most of them are conjecture though, as they have been much more subtle the blatant diss tracks. Overall, Kendrick has been playing it very cool since claiming victory over the summer. He’s been doing so with some low-key bars on GNX and on his SZA collab, “30 For 30.” He’s not necessarily making it an effort to taunt The Boy, but he’s letting everyone know “I own this guy, but I don’t need to outwardly state it.” As for Drake, well, things aren’t going anywhere near as swimmingly.

A lot of folks feel he’s been spiraling since taking the loss, especially thanks to his UMG petitions. That court situation is currently on hold as it was supposed to begin about a week ago. Moreover, his public comments and shade toward Kendrick have just come across as flaccid and kind of cringe-worthy. He’s been going in the opposite direction, with many feeling he should have been in the booth instead of the courtroom.

Why Would Drake Say This?

But he’s gone against that and instead been using livestreams, social media posts, and the like to carry out his verbal attack. For example, he did so during his “Drizzmas Giveaway” with Adin Ross last night. The livestream was created to gift some incredibly generous gifts such as cars, money, vacations, and more. However, some cannot ignore some of the things Drake said during it.

Throughout the event he was shouting out multiple artists like Future, Young Thug, Tory Lanez, among others. One of those artists was Sexyy Red, one his most recent but frequent collaborators. He made sure to show her love, while also encouraging the chat to do the same. “She is me!” She’ll be like, ‘Man, I’m always with you, man. I just be thinking about you, man.’… Shoutout to Sexyy!” However, he decided to keep going and it wasn’t a smart decision. He then decided to loosely quote Kendrick’s infamous line from “euphoria.” “When I see her, I see two bad ones, n****, what’s up?” Drake laughed. “F*** what y’all talking ’bout… Shoutout Sexyy. W Sexyy in the chat.” It was just another weird way to go about things and the internet has made sure to tear him apart.

Drake Almost Says “F*** Kendrick Lamar” While Reading A Fan Letter During Adin Ross’ Stream

Last night, Drake and Adin Ross helped spread some Christmas cheer. The two respective powerhouses joined forces for what they called the “Drizzmas Giveaway.” Sponsored by Stake and being dubbed “the biggest streaming giveaway of all time,” they were gifting some serious prizes. A vacation, a Lamborghini or G-Wagon, a year of rent for two people, and large cash amounts were just a few eye-popping things folks could win. It premiered on Kick, Adin’s streaming partner, at 8 p.m. ET on December 26 and over 180,000 tuned in within the first hour.

Overall, it was a major success for that reason alone. However, the livestream has been spawning some discourse-inducing clips in the process. Drake shouted out Future after their recent divide, as well as Tory Lanez and Lil Durk amid their legal situations. Same went for Young Thug, who Drizzy is particularly excited to see back in rapping shape. “I can’t wait for new Young Thug music. Welcome home, Thug,” he said. Furthermore, The Boy was once again hyping up his and PARTYNEXTDOOR’s upcoming collaborative album that seems like it will actually arrive by sometime next year.

He actually revealed it was supposed to land on December 6, but the wait is still active. All of this is really nothing though in the grand scheme of things, as one clip involving Kendrick Lamar’s name is making the rounds. While reading a fan’s letter explaining why they would love to win the two tickets to see Drake in Australia, they tried to sneak in a diss for K. Dot. “It would be an unforgettable honeymoon filled with laughter, fun, and of course, the Drake charisma, and it’s always f*** Kendrick…”

However, Drake caught himself before letting the rest of that sentence spill out. “Oh, I am not reading that,” he said. As you can imagine, folks came fast with the jokes, with one writing, “He scared😂😂😂” Others made sure to make jabs at his recent UMG/”Not Like Us” petitions, “Now if he WOP WOP WOP WOP WOP yo ayss again don’t go runnin back to them lawyers!😂” Drake might have saved himself in the moment, but you know how the internet is; they will always find a way to taunt someone.

Drake Says “Free Tory Lanez” &”Free Lil Durk” During DRIZZMAS Livestream With Adin Ross

Drake takes a moment to say, “Free Tory Lanez” and “Free Lil Durk” at the beginning of his DRIZZMAS livestream. Tory Lanez and Lil Durk face serious legal situations, with Lanez battling a shooting case and Durk battling two murder-for-hire cases. Drizzy acknowledged his collaborators with Adin Ross as they toast to the incarcerated with shots of tequila. Drake and Lil Durk collaborated on the 2020 hit “Laugh Now Cry Later.” Drake and Lanez were former rivals before squashing the beef in 2017.

Drake’s shout-out follows Tory Lanez’s releasing a track, “Handling Business,” earlier this month that goes at Kendrick Lamar. On the track, Lanez raps, “I have been praying and waiting for the day that people confront me the way he did, Drizzy.” Drizzy’s support for Lanez caused a beef with Megan Thee Stallion that she addressed on “HISS.”

Drake Shouts Out Future During DRIZZMAS Livestream

Drake shouted out Future with Adin Ross in the massive DRIZZMAS live stream on Thursday night (Dec. 26). “Shout out, Pluto,” said the 6 God after Adin Ross acknowledged Future. Originally, Drizzy revealed his desire to reconcile with Future on the diss track “Family Matters.” In April, Future dissed Drake in his joint albums with Metro Boomin, alluding to their beef being about a woman. Young Thug shared a tweet seeking a truce between the rivals. Pluto would repost Thug’s tweet.

Future spoke on the beef between Kendrick Lamar and Drake and expressed his frustration with GQ in November. Pluto told GQ: “He said ‘Big Three’ on my song. I’m supposed to be the one who gets mad.” Lil Baby expressed his frustration with being mentioned in the beef. Baby talked about it in a recent interview with Charlamagne Tha God. Drake was one of the first superstars to embrace Lil Baby and Gunna. Drizzy dissed Gunna in 2024 after accepting a plea.
