Finally, At Long Last, Dolly Parton Will Guest Star On ‘Grace And Frankie’ For The Full ‘9 To 5’ Reunion

Adding Dolly Parton to any project is always a good idea, but it gets even better when it finally completes a long-awaited reunion with her 9 to 5 costars, which is exactly what’s happening on Netflix’s Grace and Frankie. According to a new report, Parton will guest star on the series’ seventh and final season, putting her back on screen with Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda. Via TVLine:

For the uninitiated: 9 to 5 was released in 1980, and starred Parton, Fonda and Tomlin as the above-mentioned Doralee, Judy and Violet, three working women who decide to get revenge on their sexist boss (played by Dabney Coleman). The movie went on to gross over $100 million at the box office.

At the moment, Parton’s role on Frankie and Grace is being kept under wraps, but she will appear in the show’s final 12 episodes that will drop sometime in 2022. (Four episodes were released early in August to tide over fans.)

When it wraps up its seven-season run next year, Grace and Frankie will have the distinct honor of having the most amount of episodes for a Netflix original series. While Orange Is the New Black is the current record holder at 91 episodes, Grace and Frankie will top that by streaming 94 episodes when the final season premieres. And, now, the show will get to say it had Dolly Parton stop by for a freaking 9 to 5 reunion, so yeah, try and top that, whichever Netflix series is still racking up episodes. Tracy Morgan Will Take Over The Lead Role In ‘Squidbillies’ After Stuart D. Baker’s Firing For Offensive Comments About, Among Other Things, Dolly Parton

After competing against Adult Swim’s very strong stable of animated voice talent, Tracy Morgan has emerged as the new voice of Early Cuyler in the final season of Squidbillies. The role was originally voiced by Stuart D. Baker, who essentially detonated his career last summer by launching a parade of offensive posts on Facebook, including one where he referred to country music superstar Dolly Parton as a “freak-titted, old Southern bimbo” because she voiced her support for the Black Lives Matter protests.

After being fired from the role, Baker lashed out at Cartoon Network and the makers of Squidbillies while continuing to make some not great remarks about Americans “forsaking your own race.” Via The Wrap:

“I just hope you a-holes are happy you took a good Man and talent down. You succeeded. Be proud that you ruined a person’s life all because of [the] Freak Show called ‘Dolly Parton and BLM.’ Thanks a lot. I gave my best to you assholes for over 30 years. I guess you just love to kick someone when they’re down. That’s so twisted and perverted. Again, thanks! I’m [sic] remember you bastards!”

Clearly, nothing of value was lost as Morgan steps into the role, which was revealed via a video of other voice actors auditioning for the part. When he won, Morgan celebrated the moment by announcing, “I’m Tracy Morgan, and I’m the new voice of Superman.” (He’ll eventually get it right. It’ll be cool.)

The Squidbillies final season premieres November 7 on Adult Swim.

Dolly Parton Says She’s ‘Honored’ And ‘Flattered’ That Lil Nas X Covered ‘Jolene’

Lil Nas X likes to mix genres. Country, hip-hop, and pop have all intermingled in his hit songs. So his recent cover of Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” shouldn’t come as a surprise. He delivered the cover of Parton’s 1973 song during an appearance on BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge last week, where he also performed “That’s What I Want,” “Dead Right Now,” and “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” off his new album, Montero.

After finally getting a chance to watch the performance, Parton had nothing but praise. “I was so excited when someone told me that Lil Nas X had done my song #Jolene,” she wrote. ” I had to find it and listen to it immediately…and it’s really good. Of course, I love him anyway. I was surprised and I’m honored and flattered. I hope he does good for both of us. Thank you @LilNasX.”

Lil Nas caught wind of her comments and had a short yet excited reaction to it, writing, simply, “HOLY SH*T.” What’s more, Lil Nas currently has three songs simultaneously in the top 10 on the Billboard singles chart: “Industry Baby” at No. 2, “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” at No. 9, and “That’s What I Want” at No. 10.

It’s been a bit of a bumpy season for Ted Lasso. The feel-good (but not that good) show about an upbeat (but anguished) soccer coach amassed a ton of Emmys, including star/co-creator Jason Sudeikis. But the new season, which is still rolling out, has been hotly contested, and there’s been talk of a backlash, then a backlash to the backlash, then a backlash to the backlash to backlash, etc. But there’s one person who seems very pro-Ted Lasso: Dolly Parton.

It all started when a fan, dealing with the headache that is air travel, tried to overcome his frustrations by asking, “what would @TedLasso do?” The show’s Twitter account — which sometimes trades in motivational sloganeering — responded by asking a similar question of a real-life public figure.

“That’s funny, when it comes to small talk I often ask myself what would Dolly Parton do?” the account posted. “Start with the 9 to 5 and end with God Only Knows.”

The post didn’t tag the legendary country singer-songwriter and actress. But she found it anyway and responded.

You’re too sweet, @TedLasso!” Parton wrote, adding, “I heard you left some @AFCRichmond tickets at will call under my name?” (That’s a reference to the team Lasso coaches.)

Twitter can be a hellscape of fury and paranoia, but sometimes you get a beloved musician trading jokes with a fictitious character. And people ate it up.

And it came on the same day Parton gushed about Lil Nas X covering one of her most cherished songs, “Jolene.”

After joking he was “pregnant” with his debut album, the musician shared a “baby registry” that was a list of non-profit organizations his fans could donate to. Bro In Convo, an organization that supports Black, gay, bisexual, and queer men, reportedly received over $33,000 in donations from Lil Nas X’s registry.

Dolly Parton is basically a superhero at this point. Last year, she donated millions to help create one of the Covid-19 vaccines, made clear her support for Black Lives Matter, and even recently launched an ice cream flavor with the beloved Jeni’s.

Today, she decided it was time to remind the world that even at her age, she’s still got what it takes to rock a Playboy cover. Recreating her iconic, vintage cover for her husband Carl’s birthday, Dolly strutted her stuff in a tiny black teddy. She joked about how her body has outlasted the publication’s ability to release a print cover. “Remember sometime back I said I was going to pose on Playboy magazine when I was 75?” Dolly asked in the social media clip. “Well, I’m 75, and they don’t have a magazine anymore. But, my husband always loved the original cover of Playboy, so I was trying to think of something to do to make him happy. He still thinks I’m a hot chick after fifty-seven years, and I’m not going to try to talk him out of that.” Clearly, this married couple is doing something right.

Miley Cyrus Covered Dolly Parton And Performed With The Kid Laroi On ‘SNL’

As she’s done numerous times in her career over the last decade, Miley Cyrus once again found herself on the Saturday Night Live stage this weekend. Her gig as the show’s musical guest made for the singer’s sixth appearance on SNL. Thanks to this episode’s host, none other than Elon Musk, who had many viewers ready for some potential Dogecoin chatter, all eyes were on last night’s episode. Rather than the usual pair of performances that musical guests offer when they appear on the show, Cyrus blessed the audience with three songs last night.

She began the night with a cover of her godmother Dolly Parton’s “Light Of A Clear Blue Morning” for the show’s cold open. Rather than the typical sketch for the open, SNL cast members showed love to their moms with warm messages during the segment. “Tomorrow is Mother’s Day, and this is for all the moms out there,” Cyrus said before delivering the cover.

Later in the show, she brought out The Kid Laroi to perform their new collaboration, “Without You,” a track that was remixed with a new verse from Cyrus last week. Lastly, to bring and end to the night, Cyrus returned one last time for a solo performance of “Plastic Hearts,” the title track from her 2020 album.
