Lil Yachty Divulges Thoughts On Kendrick Lamar Versus Drake Battle Mentioning Him

After a long period of (almost) silence, Lil Yachty’s finally spoken out, via his A Safe Place podcast, about the beef and battle between his good friend Drake and Kendrick Lamar. Moreover, he specifically said that a lot of people congratulated him for being mentioned by K.Dot and Rick Ross, who was also beefing with The Boy, but that he didn’t want any part in it. The Atlanta artist remarked on his respect for both Kendrick and Drizzy, and called it a “cool thing to watch” that taught him a lot. One interesting revelation or claim is that he knew that one or all of these artists mentioned him before their material came out, although he didn’t specify which track or post despite a heavy hint that it was “Euphoria.”

Finally, Lil Yachty said the beef wasn’t serious. Not only that, but he said it won’t get serious due to the distance between the two combatants and them being “rich as f**k.” Also, there were some thoughts on how people already picked Kendrick Lamar over Drake before the battle even began. “Drake was deemed a loser in this battle before it started,” he believes. “Because people don’t like him, and haven’t, and he’s won for a very long time.

“And he’s sat at the top of the throne… Honestly, respectfully, I think he still sits on top of the throne,” Lil Yachty expressed. “I think that even if opinionated masses would say that Kendrick won, I don’t think that people are going to stop listening to Drake and Drake’s career is going to flush, you know?

Yachty Speaks On The Court Of Public Opinion

“I said to Drake, I told him, ‘I don’t feel like you won or lost,’” Lil Yachty concluded. “Rappers have lost and then lost everything. […] I think Drake will still be in everyone’s rap Spotify at the end of the year at the top. He can still drop hits and it will still control the summer. I think that Kendrick made very smart moves, and I don’t think Drake would disagree.”

Common Reveals Whether Drake & Kendrick Lamar’s Feud Went “Too Far,” Recalls His Own Drizzy Diss

It’s no secret that the explosive rap beef between Drake and Kendrick Lamar reached a new peak earlier this month when the artists took aim at each other’s families on “Family Matters” and “Meet The Grahams.” Things only got messier from there, as Kendrick went on to drop “Not Like Us,” accusing Drake and his OVO Sound colleagues of being “certified pedophiles.” While the feud had hip-hop fans everywhere tuned in, some felt as though things went a bit too far, though Common disagrees.

During a recent appearance on 7PM in Brooklyn, the Chicago-born MC weighed in on the viral battle, revealing his criteria for a solid diss and revealing whether or not he thinks it’s even possible to take things too far. “In a battle, first of all, I think the criteria is that you’ve got to have lyrics… Saying something that’s like, ‘Man, I’m lighting this n***a up.’ The lyricism is there. It’s got to be lines that punch, they punch, like you’ve got to hit. And I like wordplay with that too.”

Common Doesn’t Believe Drake & Kendrick Crossed The Line

“But,” Common continued. “If what you’re saying is just clever and it’s got punch, to me that’s part of it.” He went on to praise both Drake and Kendrick for the style they each brought to the battle, noting how that took things to “another level.” As for how far is too far, Common says late or sick family members are off-limits to him. He notes that while he’d usually not go after family at all, he did so on his own Drake diss years back, “Stay Schemin’.”

“For me, I wasn’t like ‘This is too far.’ I just was like, ‘Damn, this is a really incredible battle,’” he added. What do you think of Common claiming that Drake and Kendrick Lamar didn’t go too far on their diss tracks? Do you agree with him or not? Big Daddy Kane Blames Fans For Making Drake & Kendrick Lamar’s Feud “Unenjoyable”

Big Daddy Kane hasn’t been keeping up with Drake and Kendrick Lamar’s ongoing feud and says the fanbases have made it “unenjoyable.” He discussed the battle of diss tracks during a recent interview with The Art of Dialogue, explaining his issues with the situation. Each artist has dropped several songs in the time since Lamar kicked things off with his verse on “Like That,” back in March.

“I was trying to keep up with the Kendrick and Drake thing but I kinda lost interest,” the legendary rapper admitted. “It just wasn’t exciting to me — not because of them two, but because of the fanbase. The fanbase just made it to where, I’m good.”

He continued: “It’s not a competitive thing about who spit the better bars. It’s a thing about fact-checking to see if this person told the truth. It’s like, if the line is dope and he dissed you, it’s dope, it’s that simple […] Why are we trying to critique and decipher what was said? It’s just a dope rhyme. Enjoy the music, man, for what it is. It just wasn’t for me. It’s not about Kendrick or Drake; it’s the fanbase, the listeners and their comments and their views. They make it unenjoyable for me.” Check out Kane’s full comments on the situation below.

Questlove Argues 2Pac’s “Hit ‘Em Up” Is The “Weakest” Diss Track

Questlove doesn’t think 2Pac’s legendary diss track, “Hit ‘Em Up,” deserves the iconic reputation it has due to how he feels about production. The Roots drummer discussed the song during a recent appearance on the One Song podcast. ‘Pac famously targets The Notorious B.I.G., Junior M.A.F.I.A., Mobb Deep, and other East Coast artists in the lyrics.

“I would respect 2Pac’s ‘Hit ‘Em Up’ if his music tracking was better,” he said. “‘Hit ‘Em Up,’ to me, is disqualified, not because of the misogyny — forget all that. It’s like, ‘Dude, you’re rhyming over smooth jazz dinner music.’ Luther Vandross could sing over this! People who are born in the later part of the decade that I was born in — alright, I was born in the ’70s — their relationship with 2Pac is different to my relationship [with 2Pac]. So when this came out, everybody was like, ‘This is hard as sh*t! Yo, he killin’ it!’ And I was like, ‘Dog, he’s smooth jazzed up Dennis Edwards. It doesn’t count’ […] That song, to me, is the weakest musical smack. I can’t get with ‘Hit ‘Em Up’ because the music, to me, is just…”
