Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney have a pretty explosive and scandalous rivalry, and their fight earlier this year in April continues to haunt them. Garcia won that bout, but officials later ruled it a no-contest due to his ingestion of the performance-enhancing drug ostarine. This week, Haney filed suit in New York, accusing his opponent of battery and fraud both before and during their match-up. He pursues unspecified damages and maintains that “his contest should have adhered to fair rules.” “While Devin Haney agreed to participate in a prize fight against Garcia, at no time did he agree to engage in a bout against an individual who had taken a performance-enhancing drug,” the lawsuit reportedly reads.

Now, Ryan Garcia has responded to Devin Haney’s lawsuit via an Instagram post. “I’m being sued for doing my job,” he wrote. “This fight has been a Netflix documentary but this right here is the finale. These two boxers have made their disdain for each other crystal clear. The latest update in the Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia rivalry is the former’s new lawsuit against the latter for alleged battery and fraud on the journey to – and during – their April match at Barclays Center, per TMZ Sports. Haney allegedly filed the suit in New York on Friday (September 27). For those unaware, Garcia initially won that bout after multiple knockdowns, but officials called it a no-contest after they found evidence that Garcia used performance-enhancing drugs for it. Therefore, Haney says that he would not have agreed to the fight if he knew of these enhancements, and thus feels defrauded.

In addition, Devin Haney posited that Ryan Garcia’s ingestion of the drug despite his agreement to fight clean led to Garcia making various misrepresentations. The nature of these is unclear, although Haney said that they would’ve caused him to call the fight quits. But Garcia isn’t the only defendant in this situation. Haney also sued Golden Boy Promotions for alleged breach of contract. Haney seeks unspecified damages for how the situation inflicted “physical injury, reputational damage which will amount to millions of dollars, and emotional and mental distress.”

As of writing this article, it seems like neither Ryan Garcia nor Devin Haney have publicly addressed this lawsuit or the claims within. Elsewhere, though, they have plenty of other matters to jab each other over. For example, Garcia recently called the Diddy scandal a “very serious matter” despite how he trolled Haney for his alleged connection to the Bad Boy executive. As far as a response from Haney, this new lawsuit certainly answered that question.

However, there’s a chance that Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney could settle this the old-fashioned way: with another clean, sanctioned, exciting boxing match. The latter’s promoter wants to make it happen, or at least, that was the plan prior to Garcia’s expulsion from the World Boxing Council for a recent racist rant. Diddy’s attorney, Marc Agnifilo, has downplayed the relevance of so many bottles of lube and baby oil being found on his property. “I don’t think it was 1,000, I think it was a lot, I mean, there is a Costco right down the street. His B-sample, which was taken for his bout against Devin Haney, reportedly tested positive for the illegal drug ostarine on Thursday, according to lab reports. Following tests performed by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Agency (VADA) prior to and following Garcia’s majority decision victory over Haney on April 20, boxing writer Dan Rafael made the results public on Twitter. It is safe to say Ryan was not happy about the results.

Positive test results shouldn’t come as a surprise, though. It is uncommon for an A-sample and B-sample to have different findings. This additional evidence verifies Garcia’s positive test result for the prohibited drug, which was first published on May 1. Ryan Garcia has been the talk of the boxing world in 2024. He defeated Devin Haney in a shocking upset, despite not being able to compete for the WBC Super Lightweight Title. The more people learned about the fight, however, the less Garcia’s victory seems to be legitimate. On May 1, ESPN’s Mike Coppinger dropped a bombshell regarding the substances in the boxer’s system. He revealed that Garcia tested positive for a specific kind of PED shortly before he got into the ring with Haney.

Coppinger explained that test results taken the day before the fight reveal Garcia to have Ostarine in his system. “Ryan Garcia tested positive for the PED Ostarine,” he wrote. “The day before and the day of his upset win over Devin Haney, per a VADA letter obtained by ESPN.” The reporter did note that the fighter has time to check these results against the second sample. “Garcia has 10 days to request his B-sample be tested,” he added. “A-sample also screened positive for 19-norandrosterone but unconfirmed.”

The boxer was set to fight Haney for the Super Lightweight belt, but he came in three pounds heavy at the weigh in. Bill Haney, the trainer and father of Garcia’s opponent, blasted the fighter during an SI interview. “You trying to hurt my baby,” he asserted. “We played it fair. We didn’t do it like that… You scared of Devin on a level playing field. I feel f*cked up over this. If you can brag about doing it, you shouldn’t be on drugs.”

Garcia has denied the PED results outright. The fighter hopped on to social media to claim the test is “bullsh*t” and a means of dismissing his victory. “Everybody knows that I don’t cheat,” he told viewers. “What can I say? Why didn’t they come out with this before the fight, if they found it before?
