Young Thug & YSL’s New Judge Suggests Trial Might Delay Until August

The Young Thug and YSL RICO trial just underwent a massive overhaul, so it seems like it might need some time to fully get back into the swing of things. Moreover, the new judge in this case, Fulton County Superior Court Judge Paige Reese Whitaker, reportedly organized an attorney-only hearing to do a progress check and outline what guidelines the court should follow moving forward. “I want to be moving forward efficiently and expeditiously,” Judge Whitaker allegedly told the legal teams (per Rolling Stone), and also admitted to “parachuting in” with little prior knowledge of this specific trial and case.

However, one of the most important alleged points that this meeting discussed was Judge Whitaker’s suggestion that the Young Thug trial might see another delay. According to these reports, she indicated that the jury might have to return to court sometime in August, presumably due to this change in judges throwing a huge wrench into the whole process. For those unaware, the court recused the original judge in the YSL case, Judge Glanville, for his poor handling of a controversial ex-parte meeting.

Then, Young Thug and YSL’s trial found a new judge quick in Judge Shukura Ingram, who took over within hours of Glanville’s exit. But the court saw yet another wild update and earth-shattering development when Judge Ingram recused herself from the trial barely a day after she emerged as its new overseeing authority. This was because of her previous court affiliation with one of the co-defendants in the YSL case, which could’ve presented more issues of conflicts of interest. Fortunately, it seems like Judge Whitaker is here to stay for now, and we’ll have to wait for August to see more signifiant updates.

“Jeffery Williams is innocent of the charges brought in this indictment,” Young Thug’s lawyer Brian Steel stated in relation to these judicial changes. “To clear his name he sought a speedy trial, one in which he would receive the constitutional guarantees of a fair trial with an impartial judge presiding and ethical prosecutors following the law. Sadly, Judge Glanville and the prosecutors have run afoul of their duties under of [sic] the law. Mr. Williams is grateful that the reviewing court agreed with him and entered the order recusing and disqualifying Judge Glanville from presiding over Mr. Williams’ case. We look forward to proceeding with a trial judge who will fairly and faithfully follow the law.”

YNW Melly Murder Retrial Pushed Back Until 2025 After Numerous Other Delays

YNW Melly’s retrial for double murder is officially too complicated to address this year thanks to a new ruling from the Florida judge in this case. Moreover, according to NBC Miami, Judge Martin Fein revealed in a court hearing on Monday (July 8) that he rescheduled the retrial’s start date to September 10, 2025 following multiple other delays in the process. Back in January, authorities placed the trial on hold indefinitely, and the rapper had a pre-trial meeting in his witness tampering case set for December 5 of this year. Of course, folks are likely aware of the double murder case in 2023, whose result in a mistrial led us to where we are now.

Furthermore, jury selection for this retrial began back in October of 2023, and motions and appeals prolonged the process. Then, Judge John Murphy paused the case given prosecutors’ appeal of his ruling on a motion to suppress evidence, since the legal team wanted to use a documentary on YNW Melly as key evidence in the retrial. “While this short video focuses on Defendant’s life, it is mere speculation to guess who decided to add the text statement,” his defense team posited. “It could have been the director, the producer, an editor, [Melly] or any number of people. Thus, without knowing the source of the comment, it holds no evidentiary value.”

YNW Melly’s Retrial Date Is Set

Judge Murphy upheld the defense’s point of view, and the prosecution’s appeal halted discovery developments on both sides of the courtroom. In addition, this joined other disagreements between prosecutors and defense attorneys, such as YNW Melly’s wish to exclude YNW Bortlen and his girlfriend’s phone calls from the retrial. Still, there isn’t much else we know about what will actually come up in this retrial. Perhaps the near future will contain more updates as each side builds their arguments.

The Broward State Attorneys Office really screwed this case up,” YNW Melly’s attorney claimed on social media. “I have never seen anything like it. […] A real circus over this case and mishandled from the 1st day when I was in the case. Bad investigation and even a worse trial. To think that the Broward State Attorneys Office would mishandle an important double murder case because of ego… unbelievable.”

Pop Smoke Murder Trial Faces Delay Due To Alleged Killer Failing To Negotiate Plea Deal

The murder case of Pop Smoke still persists, and the court just found a new obstacle in their way on the path to justice. Moreover, the court issued a new start date for the trial of Corey Walker, the case’s sole adult defendant and the New York drill rapper’s alleged killer. Apparently, Walker failed to reach a proper plea agreement in time with prosecutors, and must now wait a bit longer for his trial unless he and his legal team are able to mitigate this. It’s been over four years since Pop tragically passed away following a home invasion, but we seem no closer to giving his loved ones peace and his supposed killers accountability.

Furthermore, this follows the recent news that one of Pop Smoke’s alleged killers actually got out of prison recently, seemingly for his 21st birthday. The individual pleaded guilty a couple of years ago, so it looks like he completed his sentence and now walks the streets a free man. Social media posts indicated this online, and this is one of the other underage defendants that served time in juvie. It’s unclear whether these developments will cross over in some way or if one’s release has nothing to do with the other’s attempts at a plea deal.

“Negotiations fell through,” Corey Walker’s attorney Deion Benjamin told Rolling Stone of the Pop Smoke case. “But there’s still a possibility we’ll come to an agreement. A few things need to be ironed out; if they don’t get resolved, we’ll go to trial.” Jury selection will begin on August 6 if they can’t reach a plea agreement.

“We didn’t know each other at all, but it was you who changed my life..” an alleged witness to the crime said of Pop Smoke. “I never thought that I would become a witness to a murder and someone’s death. February 19, 2020 the worst night of my life.. I will never forget your smile when you turned on the movie Hitch..I will never forget how scared we were that night when we looked into each other’s eyes and realized that we were about to be killed. I remember what I thought at that moment (am I really going to die and my mother will never see me again) God gave me a second chance ..that’s 4 years of depression 4 years were so hard. But I thank God for life.I will never forget you.. you will forever be in my heart.”

Tupac Murder Trial Hit With Multi-Month Delay

Last year, fans were shocked with the Las Vegas Police Department made an announcement. They confirmed that a raid they executed was part of an investigation related to the murder of Tupac Shakur. The murder took place in 1996 and has gone unsolved for decades. But the raid turned out to only be the start of a renewed interest in the late rapper’s tragic death. Eventually they went on to arrest Duane “Keefe D” Davis and charge him with the murder.

The arrest didn’t exactly come as a shock to many rap fans online. Keefe D has been publicly discussing the murder and his role in it for years now. In fact, his continued blatant discussion of facts about the case was one of the reasons cited for renewed interest in prosecuting the murder. But the eventual trial has already hit a series of road blocks preventing it from getting underway. He’s had numerous issues with keeping lawyers. That even including part of his legal counsel failing to show up entirely during one pre-trial hearing. Those problems have persisted as the trial recently received yet another setback due to Keefe D getting a new lawyer.

Keefe D’s Tupac Murder Trial Delayed Again

Because Keefe D’s new lawyer needs more time to gather evidence in discovery, his trial date was pushed all the way back to November. The news comes just a few weeks after D’s bail was set at $750k. His new legal team claims that the money is coming in and he’s not worried about procuring it, though as of today he remains behind bars.

The trial is expected to uncover tons of new evidence about one of the most talked about events in rap history. During pre-trial audio was played where Keefe D makes the claim that Diddy actually put out a million dollar hit on Tupac. The legendary rap mogul being brought into the trial seems like particularly bad timing as he’s already dealing with a myriad of other legal issues. What do you think of Keefe D’s trial for the murder of Tupac once again being delayed? Let us know in the comment section below.

Polo G Delays His New Album Following Arrest Last Month

Polo G was originally intending to release his new album very soon. The album is called Hood Poet and was originally due to arrive on September 15. The album is sure to be one of the biggest of the year when it eventually does drop. Polo has debuted three straight albums in the top 10 of the Billboard 200. His last two releases have both debuted in the top 2 with his 2021 album Hall Of Fame hitting the number one spot on the chart in 2021. He began the journey to his new era last month when he dropped the lead single to the album “Barely Holdin’ On.”

About a week after that song dropped, however, everything in the immediate future changed for Polo G. His home was raided by police in connection with a robbery, and while he attempted to clarify the situation via his attorney, that turned out to only be the beginning. Just a few days later the news broke that Polo and his brother had been arrested and charged with multiple felonies. Included in the charges are kidnapping, assault, or robbery. While they made bail shortly after, clearly Polo is anticipating more legal drama coming forward. As a result he’s delaying his upcoming album.

Kid Cudi’s “INSANO” Delayed, He Drops Two New Songs & Addresses Playboi Carti Collab

Kid Cudi unfortunately announced that his next album, INSANO, is delayed until January, and shared a message with fans to accompany this. Of course, this will hit many die-hards as a huge disappointment, especially considering that its original release date was on September 15. However, it seems like the Cleveland creative wanted to give something special to fans to make up for it. Moreover, he did it in the best way: by sharing two tracks off the album exclusively on SoundCloud. “ILL WHAT I BLEED” and “MOST AIN’T DENNIS” are two woozy, bass-heavy, and minimal trap cuts that see him going in a slightly different direction, and he said that these are two of his favorites in his message.

Taxstone Sentencing Delayed

After years of proceedings and weeks of taunting and beef, Taxstone’s fate following his guilty verdict on manslaughter charges hangs in the balance. Moreover, the court delayed his sentencing from April 19 to May 25, which is seven years to the day after the shooting the court found him guilty of. Furthermore, this information comes from court documents obtained by AllHipHop, which U.S. Attorney Damian Williams confirmed. For those unaware, officials arrested Taxstone (real name Daryl Campbell) in 2017 on charges related to a 2016 Irving Plaza shooting in New York City.

An escalation between Tax and rapper Troy Ave while a T.I. concert took place led to the death of Ave’s bodyguard, Ronald “Banga” McPhatter. Also, the incident caused several injuries, including to Troy himself. Later, authorities charged Taxstone with various offenses like illegal possession of a firearm and second-degree murder. While he pled guilty to gun charges in June of 2017, he maintained his innocence when it came to murder charges. In the years since, Tax and Troy Ave battled on social media and gave each other various taunts and threats.

The Court Delays Taxstone’s Sentencing

Even though Ave also faced charges in connection to the deadly shooting, he testified against Campbell for a reduced sentence. “To all my real ones that been riding with & for Me, today is the day I finally get to clear my name,” he wrote on Instagram. “It’s been almost 7 years since I lost one of my closest friends #RIPBANGA, 7 years of a narrative about it being my fault, 7 years of my character being assassinated all the while Trying to defend myself without saying much!” The court also delayed his sentencing.

Meanwhile, District Attorney Alvin Bragg also addressed victory this case. “Daryl Campbell was convicted of killing a man and shooting three others during a tragic and deadly confrontation in a packed New York City music venue,” he stated. “In addition to seriously injuring his rival and killing his rival’s bodyguard, Mr. Campbell shot innocent bystanders and put hundreds of other lives at risk. We will vigorously prosecute anyone who commits this type of deadly violence.” For more updates on the Troy Ave and Taxstone case, come back to HNHH.

Casanova’s Sentencing Delayed In Gorilla Stone Nation Case

Authorities once again delayed Casanova’s sentencing in an ongoing case of his alleged gang, Untouchable Gorilla Stone Nation. Moreover, he is one of 18 codefendants facing charges of drug trafficking, violent assault, and the murder of a 15-year-old boy in Upstate New York in a large RICO case. Furthermore, the alleged criminals first faced charges in December of 2020. However, the rapper specifically got hit with charges of racketeering conspiracy, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, and conspiracy to knowingly and intentionally manufacture, distribute, or dispense, or possess with intent to manufacture, distribute, or dispense, a controlled substance such as crack, cocaine, or marijuana.

Initially, Casanova pleaded not guilty, and expressed his high profile is what led authorities to him. Later, officials hit him with a superseding indictment in November of 2021. Moreover, it claimed that he and another gang member shot a rival outside of a strip club. Furthermore, he admitted that he shot at a rival over a gambling disagreement in July 2020 while with other gang members.

In addition, the 36-year-old acknowledged his role in a 2018 Manhattan robbery that severely injured a woman named Niya Rucker. She claimed that Gorilla Stone members attacked her and broke her jaw for filming the rapper during a meal. Also, he continued his confessions and said he conspired to traffic 100 kilograms of weed and is a key gang member. Furthermore, he pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to conduct and participate in the affairs of a criminal enterprise through a pattern of racketeering activity.

Regarding that previous confession, he also pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute over 100 kilograms of marijuana. After all those developments, the court pushed his sentencing back to June 27, 2023. He faces up to 60 years in prison, which practically means a life sentence. Given just how long this case has lasted, it’s unsurprising to see it evolve so much. However, hopefully it translates into actual change and less lives lost- whether to death or to prison. Regardless, stick around on HNHH for the latest on Casanova and the Gorilla Stone Nation case.

YSL Trial’s Jury Selection Delayed, Taking A Couple More Weeks

It seems that Young Thug and company’s case will unfortunately take longer than expected to get underway. New reports suggest that the court delayed jury selection in the YSL trial in order to account for excused jurors. Moreover, Judge Glanville said that they summoned an additional 300 potential participants to replace those who couldn’t attend.

ATLANTA, GA – JANUARY 01: Rapper Young Thug attends 1st Party of The Year at Gold Room on January 1, 2022 in Atlanta, Georgia.(Photo by Prince Williams/Wireimage)

Furthermore, the court heard from about 13 potential jurors on Wednesday (January 25) who sought excuse from the trial. As YSL’s case could last up to a year, another delay in the process doesn’t bode well for that timeline. Still, fans decided between faith in an appropriate jury or doubt of more time stuck in the process.

Moreover, these reports came from reporters on Twitter who covered the jury selection process. “Judge Glanville said they’ve summoned ANOTHER group of 300 jurors to replace some of the folks excused for hardships,” tweeted journalist Shaddi Abusaid. “They’ll report Feb. 24.”

Meanwhile, AJC journalist Jozsef Papp reported on the excused jurors in the selection process. Furthermore, judges relinquished potential jurors of their duties for a variety of reasons.

“We have started to hear hardships,” he tweeted earlier this week. “Juror #230 has been excused after providing proper documentation; Juror #354 has been excused after having surgery a couple of weeks ago.

“Juror #153 is in Egypt and then to India; travel was booked in advance. Judge asked him to come back with proper documentation to be excused,” he added. When speaking of another juror, Papp wrote, “He is a streamer, switched games and lost a lot of money and viewership. Has been doing Uber Eats to mitigate. He was speaking fast so judge asked him to slow down.”

Also, these developments in the case occurred alongside other court mishaps. Recently, Thug’s legal team denied that he had knowledge of a codefendant slipping him a Percocet in the middle of a hearing. While authorities apprehended the codefendant promptly and Thug maintained his innocence, they are murky waters to travel.

Still, what do you think of the YSL trial’s jury selection process delayed by a couple more weeks? Whatever the case, let us know in the comments down below. Also, as always, come back to HNHH for the latest on Young Thug and the YSL RICO case.
