Eminem Performs For Thousands Of Fans In Abu Dhabi Days After Mother’s Death

Last week, Eminem’s mother Debbie Nelson passed away at the age of 69. According to TMZ, she died in St. Joseph, Missouri on December 2 following a battle with advanced lung cancer. Despite the recent loss, Eminem performed in Abu Dhabi over the weekend for a crowd of over 40,000 fans. The performance took place in Etihad Park and was the third after-race concert of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix series, per TMZ.

There was some speculation that the show would be canceled due to Nelson’s death, but posts on the rapper’s social media accounts soon confirmed that Eminem would still be in attendance. He even performed “Kill You,” a song that includes various jabs at his mother. The rapper shared some photos from the event on X earlier today and thanked his fans. He’s yet to publicly address his mother’s death, but it’s no secret that the two of them had a complicated relationship. After he publicly dissed her in his music, in interviews, and more, she hit him with a lawsuit for alleged defamation in 1999.

She was seeking $11 million in damages at the time, and the judge ruled in her favor. She was awarded a $25K judgment in 2001. While it’s unclear exactly where Eminem and Nelson stood at the time of her passing, their relationship did appear to improve over the years. He seemingly apologized to her in his 2013 track “Headlights,” for example, and she congratulated him for his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame In 2022.

“Marshall, I want to say, I could not let this day go by without congratulating you on your induction into the Hall of Fame,” she said in part. “I love you very much. I knew you’d get there. It’s been a long ride. I’m very, very proud of you.” Shortly after Nelson’s passing, Eminem’s half-brother Nathan “Nate” Mathers took to his Instagram Story with a brief message. “Hatred and mixed emotions today,” he wrote.

Eminem’s Half-Brother Reveals How He’s Feeling Following Mother Debbie Nelson’s Death

Earlier this week, it was revealed that Eminem’s mother Debbie Nelson passed away at the age of 69. According to TMZ, she died in St. Joseph, Missouri on the evening of December 2 after battling advanced lung cancer. Now, the rapper’s half-brother Nathan “Nate” Mathers has taken to his Instagram Story to address her passing. In a simple post, he made it clear that his feelings about the loss are complex.

“Hatred and mixed emotions today,” Mathers wrote. It’s no secret that Eminem’s relationship with his mother wasn’t always positive. In the past, he’s taken aim at her in his music, interviews, and more. In 1999, she even sued him for alleged defamation, seeking $11 million in damages. Ultimately, the judge ruled in her favor, but she only received a $25K judgment in 2001. Years later, the two of them appeared to make amends.

In his 2013 song “Headlights,” for example, he appeared to apologize. “I went in headfirst, never thinkin’ about who, what I said hurt/ In what verse, my mom probably got it the worst/ The brunt of it, but as stubborn as we are, did I take it too far?/ ‘Cleanin’ Out My Closet’ and all them other songs/ But regardless, I don’t hate you ’cause, ma/ You’re still beautiful to me, ’cause you’re my ma,” he raps. In 2022, Nelson congratulated her son for his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

“Marshall, I want to say, I could not let this day go by without congratulating you on your induction into the Hall of Fame,” she said in a video. “I love you very much. I knew you’d get there. It’s been a long ride. I’m very, very proud of you. And also I’m very proud of [granddaughter] Hailie Jade, my big girl. I want to tell you, Hailie, great job on your podcast and God bless you guys. I love you very much.” At the time of writing, Eminem has yet to publicly address his mother’s passing.

Eminem’s mother, Debbie Nelson, has passed away at the age of 69 after battling with advanced lung cancer. According to TMZ, she died in St. Joseph, Missouri on Monday night. Her initial diagnosis was made public back in September. Eminem has yet to comment on her passing publically.

The two have had a tumultuous relationship throughout Eminem’s career, although she’s congratulated him on his success in recent years. After her son’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022, she celebrated him in a since-deleted video on social media. “Marshall, I want to say, I could not let this day go by without congratulating you on your induction into the Hall of Fame,” she said at the time. “I love you very much. Debbie gave birth to Eminem when she was only 18 years old back in 1972. She had married Marshall Bruce Mathers as her high school sweetheart, two years prior. They got divorced sometime after Eminem’s birth.

Eminem referenced a difficult relationship with his mother on several songs, early in his career, including his hit single, “Cleanin’ Out My Closet.” In 1999, Debbie sued him for defamation. She also discussed their relationship at length in the 2008 memoir, My Son Marshall, My Son Eminem. As the years went on, Eminem eventually expressed regret over his harsh words for his mother and addressed his feelings about their relationship in the 2013 song, “Headlights.” He worked with Spike Lee on a music video for the track, which dropped on Mother’s Day.

One Direction Members Post Heartfelt Tributes To “Brother” Liam Payne

One Direction was the boy band for an entire generation. As with every era-defining group, though, a contentious breakup came in the aftermath of their success. Fans were forced to choose which 1D star was right and which was wrong. Zayn Malik and Liam Payne were two of the most polarizing members during post-1D years. Payne’s tragic death on October 17, however, has put things into perspective for Zayn Malik. Zayn, as well as Louis Tomlinson, took to social media to pay tribute to their former band member and “brother.”

Zayn Malik posted a photo of him and Payne during their One Direction days. The two teens appear to be leaning against each other while sleeping in a car. Zayn then delves into the complications and the tragic dynamics of his relationship with Payne. “Even though you were younger than me,” he wrote. “You were always more sensible than me. You were headstrong, opinionated, and gave no f**ks about telling people when they were wrong.” Zayn Malik then noted that he appreciated the ways in which Payne challenged him, even if he didn’t show it in the moment. “Even though we butted heads because of this a few times, I always secretly respected you for it,” he added.

Liam Payne Was Praised By His Former Band Mates

Zayn closed out his tribute to Liam Payne by referring to the late singer as his brother. Through all of the adversity, the two men remain bonded. “[I] can’t explain to you,” he concluded. “What I’d give to just give you a hug one last time and say goodbye to you properly. Tell you that I loved and respected you dearly.” Zayn wasn’t the only One Direction star who felt the need to speak up after Liam Payne’s untimely death. Louis Tomlinson also took to Instagram to praise Payne and the impact the singer left on life.

Liam Payne and Tomlinson also had personal issues, according to an interview the former gave in 2021. He claimed that he and Tomlinson actually hated each other while they were in One Direction, and it was only after the band broke up that they became close. Tellingly, Louis Tomlinson also referred to Payne as his brother. “I wish I got chance to say goodbye and tell you one more time how much I loved you,” he wrote on IG. “Payno, my boy, one of my best friends, my brother, I love you mate.
