The year is winding down, but before it does, it is always fun to reflect on what happened thus far. In the world of music (at least on the fans’ end), Apple Music Replay and Spotify Wrapped remind listeners of their favorite albums, EPs, and singles. Likewise, the Billboard Music Awards is all about the collective data. Last month, the complete nomination list was shared. So, who is performing at the 2023 Billboard Music Awards?

Thus far, only four featured performances have been announced. Those entertainers are Bebe Rexha, David Guetta, Peso Pluma, and NewJeans. The organizers revealed that additional performers will be announced on social media leading up to the ceremony.

Based on the stacked nominee lists, fans hope SZA, up for 17 awards, could hit the stage, especially after she reportedly opted out of performing at the 2023 VMAs. The most nominated artist of the evening is Taylor Swift, up in 20 listed categories. Peso Pluma is nominated in six. David Guetta and NewJeans are nominated in five each.

The 2023 Billboard Music Awards ceremony and performances from the evening will be shared across their official social media platforms or seen live on November 19 at 8 p.m. Eastern. Find more information here.

David Guetta Uses A.I.-Generated Eminem Voice In New Song

David Guetta is now the latest proponent of an incredibly provocative trend that has been going around the music scene: artificial intelligence. Whether it be FN Meka, the A.I. rapper who inked a deal with Capitol Records and subsequently lost it due to cultural appropriation concerns, or Drayk.it, the website that allows people to use an A.I.-generated replica of Drake’s voice and make it sing any song they desire, A.I. has gained many fans and critics.

Most recently, the cover art for Lil Yachty’s latest studio album Let’s Start Here (Jan. 27) sparked conversation among listeners, considering he employed an A.I. generator to craft the whimsical album art. After a Twitter user brought attention to this decision, saying it “sucks so much,” Yachty succinctly replied “shut up,” emphasizing even more the line in the sand drawn between A.I. lovers and haters.

David Guetta Loves A.I.

On Feb. 3, Guetta uploaded a video to Twitter of his recent concert, where he debuts a new track that features an appearance from an A.I.-generated Eminem voice. Before an epic beat drop, the Eminem voice repeats the phrase “This is the future rave sound. I’m getting awesome and underground.” After the clip of this performance, Guetta is seen explaining this decision and the process of making the Eminem replica, where he appears to be ecstatic about his newfound love for artificial intelligence.

“Eminem, bro! There’s something that I made as a joke, and it worked so good I could not believe it,” he said. “I discovered those websites about A.I. Basically, you can write lyrics in the style of any artist you like. So I write a verse in the style of Eminem about Future Rave. And I went to another A.I. website that can recreate the voice. I put the text in that and I played the record, and people went nuts!”

In the thread underneath Guetta’s Twitter post, he elaborates that he will not release the song for commercial use: “obviously I won’t release this commercially.” But, the main argument against A.I. from its dissenters is that it takes away the efforts of artists or uses them as reference points and does not credit them and compensate them financially. And even though Guetta does not plan to add this song to streaming platforms, he already used it in a concert setting that he got paid for.

David Guetta Used AI To Add Eminem’s ‘Voice’ To A Song: ‘Let Me Introduce You To Emin-AI-Em’

In the past few months, AI has become the new NFTs of the music industry. You know, the vaguely futuristic new tech toy that artists and labels can milk for a bit before the bottom inevitably falls out because no one is regulating these things and regular people get bored with them.

Google’s got a music AI, a new AI song generator lets you cobble together a fake Drake song, and labels are trying to sign racist caricatures of Black people in the form of “virtual rappers” whose songs are being written by algorithms.

We’ve reached a new frontier in predictive text (all of these things are essentially that Twitter prompt about pressing the middle suggestion until a sentence comes out, just slightly more advanced) and it seems no one can resist — least of all, artists whose music already consists of a lot of electronically-produced sounds in the first place.

French DJ David Guetta recently premiered a new song of his that “features” Eminem during a concert, sharing the video online. Eminem “appears” courtesy of AI, thanks to an AI song generator Guetta found online, he explains in the clip. He said he has no plans in place to release the song commercially, but hey, again: Not everybody is going to want to be in on this joke. See: Rick Astley suing Yung Gravy for employing a soundalike on his breakaway hit.

If I sound down on all this supposed “artificial intelligence” — well, it’s because I am. It’s all fun and games until “stars” are endorsing products and philosophies they never would in real life and scammers are using AI-generated co-signs to help bilk folks out of their hard-earned money (in this economy???), to say nothing of how quickly these bots learn to be racist, homophobic, and misogynistic. Until someone gets a handle on legislating these gizmos, all the pieces are available for some truly disastrous outcomes. Anyway, check out David Guetta doing a song with a fake Eminem below.

Terrifying Killer Doll M3GAN’s Spooky Rendition Of ‘Titanium’ Is On The Film’s Official Soundtrack

M3GAN is sweeping the nation. The Gerard Johnstone-directed film centers around “a life-like doll programmed to be a child’s greatest companion and a parent’s greatest ally,” according to the film’s official synopsis. The murderous, terrifying doll was designed by a roboticist named Gemma (Allison Williams) and voiced by Jenna Davis — and the latter has a song on the official soundtrack.

In the movie, M3GAN’s chosen lullaby to serenade Cady (Violet McGraw) with is “Titanium” (as analyzed by The Daily Beast). The 2011 hit by David Guetta featuring Sia peaked at No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 over a decade ago, and apparently, one of M3GAN’s underrated abilities is that of reviving a dance-pop earworm.

Previously, at the December world premiere of M3GAN in Los Angeles, the titular doll aligned herself with Taylor Swift. More specifically, eight M3GAN-looking dancers made “It’s Nice To Have A Friend” way creepier than Swift likely ever intended. There was also some Meghan McCain discourse sparked by McCain tweeting, “I feel personally attacked by this movie and the entire premise.”

M3GAN hit theaters on Friday, January 6, and debuted with $30 million across North American box offices, per Variety. The full official soundtrack from Anthony Willis can be found here.

Anuel AA Released His New Album ‘LLNM2’ With Features From Lil Durk, Kodak Black, And David Guetta

Anuel AA unleashed his collaboration-heavy album LLNM2 on Friday (December 9). Across the 33-tracks, Puerto Rican superstar teamed up with Kodak Black, David Guetta, and Lil Durk. Anuel AA’s wife Yailin La Más Viral and DaBaby also feature on the LP.

LLNM2 is a sequel to Anuel AA’s Las Leyendas Nunca Mueren album that was released last year. He doubled the the number of songs from the original Leyenda LP that featured 16 tracks. Anuel AA, who is a force in Latin trap and reggaeton, worked with many of today’s top hip-hop stars. Trap music in Spanish and English collide in the dreamy “1ro” featuring Lil Durk. Kodak Black jumped on in the salsa-infused “Sufro” with Ñengo Flow and Anuel AA. DaBaby dabbled in reggaeton in “Wakanda,” where he and Anuel AA rapped about partying in the country from the Black Panther movies.

Anuel AA also teamed up with French DJ Guetta. The two artists linked-up for the club banger “Vibra” that blended reggaeton with elements of tropical house music. Anuel AA’s wife Yailin La Más Viral featured on the hardest track of the LP, “La Máquina.” The power couple joined Puerto Rican icons Jowell y Randy and De La Ghetto for alluring reggaeton romp. Yailin La Más Viral held her among the men with her fierce bars.
