Junior Mafia’s ‘Get Money’ Video Gets Some ‘React Like You Know’ Appreciation From BIA And Coi Leray

It’s been a minute since we last dropped a React Like You Know video, so you know we had to come back strong. Not only do we have a new panel featuring Uproxx cover star Coi Leray and fan favorites like ASAP Tyy, BIA, Kali, and Kidd Kenn, but we’ve given our millennials/Gen Zers an absolute classic video to rock with: Junior Mafia’s “Get Money” featuring The Notorious B.I.G. and Lil Kim.

For some readers, it might be mind-boggling to realize that many of today’s rappers weren’t even born yet when Biggie was shot to death in Los Angeles on March 9, 1997. But his impact still reverberates through their lives and music — even if some of them aren’t even aware of it. The same can be said of Lil Kim, whose influence is one of the common threads in the recent resurgence of female talent in the hip-hop world.

Coi even acknowledges as much, nodding to her own homage to one of Kim’s iconic outfits in her recent Uproxx cover shoot. Meanwhile, Lakeyah sums it up best: “She definitely opened doors for girls like me,” she explains. “She a tough rapper and she owns her sexuality. She knew she was a sexy bitch.” Of course, for a generation that wasn’t raised on the same MTV as the rappers whose videos they’re watching, some of the aesthetics are certainly eye-opening.

When Uproxx’s Cherise Johnson asks whether the rappers back then were raunchier than the ones today, Kidd Kenn wholeheartedly disagrees. “The girls today are disgusting,” he jokes. “I’m one of the girls.”

Moneybagg Yo, Coi Leray, Babyface Ray Tapped for 6th Annual Lil WeezyAna Fest

unnamed 9 1

The sixth edition of Lil Wayne’s artist-curated festival, Lil WeezyAna Fest, will take place in his native New Orleans on August 27. The event is back at Champions Square this year for the first time in four years. This year’s one-day festival, which brings together some of the biggest musical acts, will remain distinctive and unpredictable.

The festival, presented by Live Nation Urban, will feature Moneybagg Yo, Coi Leray, Babyface Ray, Rob 49, and surprise guests.

“We’re glad to be back home! New Orleans birthed us, and we can travel and hit the stage anywhere in the world, but there’s no place like home! As always, we will be honoring the many lives lost in Hurricane Katrina as this year marks the 17th year anniversary. Wayne is excited to get back home as this one will be one you won’t want to miss!” states Mack Maine, President, Young Money Records.

“Lil Wayne is ubiquitous with New Orleans and Lil WeezyAna Fest is an incredible representation of the city’s vibrant and thriving music culture. In its 6th year, the festival has become a New Orleans tradition and Live Nation Urban is beyond ecstatic to bear witness to such an impactful event,” says Brandon Pankey, Vice President of Business Development & Operations at Live Nation Urban.

Lil Wayne has been a host of one of New Orleans, Louisiana’s most exciting events since 2015. Lil WeezyAna Fest has established itself as an annual homecoming for Wayne that honors the area’s musical heritage and serves as a platform for him to give back to the neighborhood. This year, $0.50 from each ticket purchased for the event will be given to programs supporting education for New Orleans young people.

Tickets will be available everywhere beginning Friday, July 15 at 10 am local time.

Lil Wayne Announces The Lineup For The 2022 Lil WeezyAna Festival With Moneybagg Yo, Coi LeRay, And More

Since 2015, Lil Wayne has been curating a homecoming festival of sorts with Lil WeezyAna in his homwetown of New Orleans. The last edition took place in 2019 and saw some of the 15,000 attendees getting a little too turnt up during Meek Mill’s performance at UNO Lakefront Arena. But now, Lil WeezyAna returns to the Champion’s Square venue with a stacked lineup for the one-day function on Saturday, August 27th.

Along with Lil Wayne, Lil WeezyAna will have performances from Moneybagg Yo, Coi Leray, Babyface Ray, and Rob 49. There have also been a set of “surprise guests” promised. A partnership with LiveNation Urban, the music festival also offers an opportunity for Weezy and attendees to give back to the community, with $0.50 of every ticket sold from the event being donated to support educational initiatives for young people in New Orleans.

“We’re glad to be back home! New Orleans birthed us and we can travel and hit the stage anywhere in the world, but there’s no place like home,” Young Money Records President Mack Maine said in a statement. “As always, we will be honoring the many lives lost in Hurricane Katrina as this year marks the 17-year anniversary. Wayne is excited to get back home as this one will be one you won’t want to miss!”

Tickets will be available everywhere beginning Friday, July 15th at 10 a.m. local time here. A slew of pre-sales are happening now and more details can be found at the same link.

Fivio Foreign Asks ‘What’s My Name’ In His New Video With Queen Naija And Coi Leray

Fivio Foreign‘s debut album B.I.B.L.E. came out in April, but he’s wisely kept promoting it over the last two months, keeping it visible even with all the high-profile projects that have been dropping lately. The latest video he’s released from the album is for “What’s My Name,” the Destiny’s Child-sampling fifth track, which also features fellow rising stars Queen Naija and Uproxx’s latest cover artist, Coi Leray. While Naija sing-raps her verse, Coi delivers hers in her now-signature clipped-but-melodic cadence. In the video, the three wear matching camouflage outfits while performing for rowdy crowds while Coi lounges with a python.

Since dropping B.I.B.L.E., Fivio’s appeared in the video for Nicki Minaj’s “We Go Up,” assisted Antonio Brown on his new album Paradigm, teamed up with another drill artist, Kay Flock, to release “Make A Movie,” and released his own video for another of his album’s more soulful singles, “Hello,” featuring Chloe and KayCyy. Meanwhile, Queen Naija is four months removed from her latest single, “Hate Our Love” featuring Big Sean, and Coi Leray has already dropped a new single of her own, “Involved,” after pushing back her Trendsetter tour to add more dates.

Coi Leray Is Head Over Heels On Her New Single ‘Involved’

Coi Leray talks a tough game, but she isn’t afraid to get vulnerable. Her new single “Involved” addresses the mutual affection between her and a lover. She pledges to be discreet through autotuned vocals and a frantic drum pattern but also acknowledges her addiction to the love they share and how it forces her to question why she stays when other women are in the picture. It is a relatable story that is equal parts heartwarming and toxic.

“Involved” recalls a similar message to that of “Aye Yai Yai” from two months prior, a song that is a part of Coi Leray’s debut album Trendsetter. The project was backed by the popular “No More Parties (Remix)” featuring Lil Durk, “Blick Blick” with Nicki Minaj, and “Twinnem.” The LP also included guest appearances from Yung Bleu, HER, G Herbo, Polo G, and more.

In more recent news, the New Jersey artist recently pushed back her tour, which began in early June, in addition to adding dates in both the United States and Europe. The tour is set to finish at the end of August and includes individual shows as well as festival performances. Coi loves to love and she loves the stage, so expect “Involved” to be quickly added to the setlist.
