Childish Gambino’s psychological thriller series, Swarm has been making headlines since its premiere on Tuesday, March, 14. Considering its many references in visuals, artistry, style, and more, fans are now wondering if the show is based on a true story about Queen Bey. Since the steamy scene involving Chloe Bailey and Damson Idris went viral, […]
Over the past two years, Chlöe Bailey’s readied fans for a new chapter in her career with her solo debut album,In Pieces. Though she emerged into the music industry as a teenager, her forthcoming project will showcase her growth into a woman. It’s as evident as the singles she’s released for the project. The anthemic “Have Mercy,” produced by Murda Beatz, showcased her embracing her sexuality openly. Then, she dropped joints like the Chris Brown-assisted “How Does It Feel” that showcased a more romantic aspect of her artistry.
All in all, she has range and that seems to be exactly what we’ll be getting next Friday. On Monday (March 20th), she shared the official tracklist for the project, which boasts fourteen songs in total. The aforementioned Chris Brown collaboration will appear at #7, while other features include Missy Elliott and Future. The former appears on “Told Ya” and the latter on the aptly titled, “Cheatback.” The carefully curated features strongly suggest that In Pieces will provide fans with a glimpse into Chlöe’s life that we’ve yet to see in the past.
Chlöe Bailey Explains “In Pieces” Inspiration
Last week, Chlöe Bailey dropped the official cover art for In Pieces, which was inspired by a picture of a doll holding its heart. She explained that the cover itself represents an incredibly difficult time in her life. “But now after healing, doing self-work and shedding this skin of false perfection, I find the beauty in pain,” she explained. Chlöe Bailey added, “IN PIECES is for the ones like me who wear their outer shell so well that you’d have no idea what they’re going through. I hope this project brings healing to those who listen, as it’s been completely therapeutic for me…”
The new album couldn’t come at a better time. Chlöe is fresh off of a performance at SXSW this weekend but prior to that, she appeared in the highly anticipated series, Swarm on Amazon Prime. Chlöe takes on the role of Marissa Jackson, the older sister of Dre (played by Dominique Fishback). However, it was her opening scene with Damson Idris that left people’s jaws dropped on the floor. With In Pieces due out on Friday, we’re sure that people will have way more to talk about than her appearance in Swarm. Check the tracklist for Chlöe Bailey’s In Pieces above. The album drops on March 31st.
Dominique Fishback initially declined a role in Donald Glover’s newest series for Amazon Prime Video, Swarm. The two explained how she was cast to play the show’s central antihero, Andrea “Dre” Green, during a new piece for The New York Times. Glover revealed to the outlet that he initially proposed the role of Marissa, which eventually went to Chloe Bailey, for Fishback.
“I was like, ‘You want to play the murderer? Uh, really?’” he recalled saying. “She felt very sweet, like someone you wanted to take care of, but she wanted to do the opposite, which I completely understand even in my own career. She wanted to branch out, and I was excited to allow her to do that.”
Dominique Fishback With Donald Glover & Chloe Bailey
When asked about the decision, Fishback explained that she was sick of playing the same type of characters. “I’m used to being a character that’s loved or easy-to-like and, no lie, you get comfortable with that — I like that! But I had to get out of my own way in order to be the artist, the actor, that I came here to be,” she said.
As for Fishback’s inspiration for the performance, she recently discussed how Charlize Theron and Heath Ledger impacted her during an interview with ET. “When I was younger, I watched Monster with Charlize Theron… And I watched Heath Ledger do the Joker and you see all of these people get to really tap into different characters,” she explained. “I was like, ‘Man, I want to get the opportunity to really just stretch myself as an actor and explore the human psyche in ways that I would never do.’ … And, I feel like I got that freedom to do so at Dre’s expense. She’s so angry.”
Swarm debuted on Amazon Prime Video on March 17, 2023. In addition to Fishback, the show stars Chloe Bailey, Damson Idris, Billie Eilish, and more. Check out a trailer for the series below.

Chloe Bailey and Damson Idris featured in the first episode of the new series Swarm, which spotlighted a steamy sex scene. Shocked fans cracked jokes on Twitter. Singer Chloe Bailey and actor Damson Idris were in the first episode of the new series Swarm that premiered on March 17. Their characters, Marissa and Khalid, were […]
Viewers streaming Donald Glover’s heavily anticipated stan culture satire Swarm were greeted with an unexpected sight as the show started streaming: pop star Chlöe‘s first-ever sex scene. While the singer has openly flaunted her sexuality in music videos for singles like “Have Mercy” and “Treat Me” (and fielded complaints about it online), this was her first time having simulated sex on camera and she credited scene partner Damson Idris (of Snowfall acclaim) with helping her overcome her initial nerves.
In an interview with Deadline at SXSW earlier this month — which has since resurfaced, for obvious reasons — Chlöe explained why she was nervous to film the scene in the first place, despite her sometimes racy image, and how Idris helped her feel more comfortable during filming.
“As open and liberal as I am about my body, I was very scared because I haven’t had that many partners,” she recalled. I’m not like that—like that sexual and open. Damson made it really comfortable; you know, there were limited people on set. It was a closed set.”
Damson kept things light, which helped her ease into what might otherwise be an embarrassing situation.
“We literally had a bouncy ball in between us, and you know, we were making a joke out of it, so it took all of the nervousness away from that,” she said. “I have to give a lot of kudos to him as a man for making me, as a woman, feel comfortable literally being raw and naked.”

The singer wasn’t the only one drawing attention during the show’s first season. Billie Eilish received praise for her acting (and smooching), while fans were gagged at a Halsey joke delivered by Paris Jackson. Meanwhile, Chlöe is also booked for some lighter fare onscreen; her gospel-inflected comedy Praise This is due to hit Peacock on April 7 (talk about RANGE). She’s also dropping her debut solo album In Pieces on March 31.
After it premiered at midnight last night (March 17), Swarm has taken over the internet. The new Amazon Prime Video series from Donald Glover and Janine Nabers is notable for a number of reasons, including a recently revealed appearance from Billie Eilish. She’s not the only music star in the show, as Chlöe also has a role, and there’s one scene in particular that is making waves online: the sex scene.
We won’t share it here (it’s easy enough to find, though, either via clips on Twitter or in the actual show), but for about 30 seconds in the first episode’s opening minutes, Chlöe and Damson Idris’ characters (Marissa Jackson and Khalid) have sex with each other as they talk dirty and make sexual noises. Partway through, Khalid notices Dominique Fishback’s character (Andrea “Dre” Greene) watching them from the doorway, but he continues and even flashes her a smile before Dre walks away.
Naturally, the explicit scene has drawn so many reactions on Twitter.

In a recent Deadline interview, Chlöe spoke about filming the scene, saying, “I remember when I first read the script, I was like, ‘Oh, this is insane, this is incredible,’ and I cried, and then I realized, ‘You gotta do that sex scene, girl.’ And as open and liberal as I am with my body, I was very scared because I haven’t had that many partners, I’m not like that… that sexual and open. […] Damson made it really comfortable. You know, there were limited people on set, it was a closed set. We were laughing in between. We literally had a bouncy ball in between us. […] I have to give a lot of kudos to him as a man for making me as a woman feel comfortable being literally raw and naked.”

Donald Glover’s new seriesSwarm debuted this morning but Chlöe Bailey and Damson Idris have already stirred up the timeline. Within the first five minutes of the first episode of the BeyHive-inspired series, Dre (Dominique Fishback) catches her sister Marissa Jackson (Bailey) and her boyfriend Khalid (Idris) having sex. Chöe previously revealed she filmed a love scene for Swarm. Still, no one thought it would be this early in the series.
It didn’t take long for Twitter to come through with its takes. “Damson Idris is shooting such scenes with Chloe Bailey and going home to Lori Harvey ??” one person wrote. Others wondered why people made a huge deal out of it. “y’all were doing a lot last night over chloe sex scene in swarm… like it was never that serious it’s called acting and it took a lot for her to even do the scene,” the user wrote.
Chlöe Says Damson Made Her Feel “Comfortable” During Shoot
Though Chlöe is no stranger to film and television, Swarm marked the first time she filmed a love scene. During an interview with Deadline, Bailey explained that the script left her in awe when she first read it. However, she realized only afterward that she needed to film an intimate scene with Idris’ character. “I first read the script, I was like, ‘Oh, this is insane, this is incredible,’ and I cried, and then I realized, you gotta do that sex scene, girl,’” she said.
Chlöe was frightened to shoot with Damson, though he ensured that she felt as comfortable as possible on set. “As open and liberal as I am about my body, I was very scared because I haven’t had that many partners,” Bailey explained. “I’m not like that—like that sexual and open. Damson made it really comfortable; you know, there were limited people on set. It was a closed set.” Check out the reactions below.
Chlöe Bailey’s revving up to have the summer on lock with her solo debut album In Pieces right around the corner. The singer’s shared a handful of singles over the past few years as she built anticipation for her first outing without her sister. Singles like “Have Mercy” became massive bangers that found her poppin’ her ish, while her latest release, “How Does It Feel” ft. Chris Brown became a definitive display of her place as a leading R&B artist in 2023.
So far, she hasn’t released a tracklist for her project but she confirmed that she’ll have a few exciting collabs on the project. During an interview with Complex at the top of the year, she explained that each record on In Pieces stems from a personal experience, whether a joint like “Have Mercy” which finds her hitting back at haters or “Treat Me” which describes what she looks for in a man. “Every single song on that project stems from my own experiences,” she said. “Every song I have is personal. It has been so much fun collaborating with such incredible song makers.”
Chlöe Bailey Shares “In Pieces” Cover Art
This morning, Chlöe Bailey unveiled the official cover for In Pieces. The cover art showcases her looking quite doll-like while holding a glowing heart in her hand. Her chest also exudes a bright red neon color where her heat is supposed to be. Fans were impressed by the creativity that went into the look, as well as its simplicity. Even though it’s her debut album, Chlöe Bailey didn’t go over the top to catch anyone’s attention.
Chlöe explained the inspiration for the In Pieces cover art came from a photo of a porcelain doll holding her heart three years ago. At that point, she committed to recreating a similar look for her own cover art. “This cover represents so much for me, down to the color of my hair… when I had the red hair 1.5 years ago, it was one of the darkest times in my life… that’s why I never wore it again,” she explained in a note. “IN PIECES is for the ones like me, who wear their outer shell so well that you’d have no idea what they’re going through.” Check out the cover art above and sound off with your thoughts in the comments.
In a separate tweet, she explained the meaning behind the image:
“I saw a photo of a porcelain doll 3 years ago, holding her heart just like this and from then, I said this will be my album cover. That same day I also wrote ‘Heart On My Sleeve.’ The beginning of a scary and exciting journey for me. This cover represents so much for me, down to the color of my hair.. When I had the red hair 1.5 years ago, it was one of the darkest times in my life.. That’s why I never wore it again. It reminded me too much of the pain that I was going through in that moment and I didn’t want any reminders.
But now after healing, doing self work and shedding this skin of false perfection, I find the beauty in my pain. I find the beauty in my flaws and how in actuality, that’s what makes me perfect. I find beauty in all of the cracks that show people I’ve been broken down before, because I’ve gotten up every time. I wear my heart as my armor.
In Pieces is for the ones who behind closed doors are breaking and don’t know how much more they can take. In Pieces is for the ones who hold the people up around them while barely holding up themselves. In Pieces is for the people who continue to get stabbed in the back, heartbroken by the ones they thought they could trust, but STILL that doesn’t change their heart and how they love. In Pieces is for the ones like me, who wear their outer shell so well that you’d have no idea what they’re doing through. I hope this project brings healing to those who listen, as it’s been completely therapeutic for me and I can’t wait to share my heart with you, literally.”
