Channel Tres Delivers His Familiar Style In A Longer Format With “Head Rush”

Channel Tres has been developing one of the most unique approaches to hip-hop the genre has seen in quite a while. The Los Angeles, California native melds dance, electronic, R&B, funk, house, and hip-hop all in one. Throughout his career, which spans about six years, he has impressed on features and smaller projects. However, there has been one thing missing from the cool, calm, and collected MC’s discography. That would be a debut album, and well, it is finally here. Channel Tres named this project Head Rush, and that is quite an accurate description of what listeners will experience.

As per usual, he is bringing that unmistakable that he is known for, perhaps in a more refined manner. While there have been complaints by some die-hard fans for it being a little underwhelming, bloated, and not as ambitious, Head Rush still offers a lot. Making an album in comparison to an EP or a mixtape is a much different process, so having some missteps is not necessarily out of the ordinary. However, in that same breath, we can see some of the criticisms, as at times Channel can sound a little repetitive at times. Overall, though, the veteran does provide a lot of groovy, funky, and slightly left field bangers and it is still worth a true listen.

JasonMartin And DJ Quik Make Magic On New Album “CHUPACABRA”

JasonMartin and DJ Quik are as Cali as it gets. They may come from different generations, but they shared a love for G-funk and smooth, feel-good music to play in the car. It doesn’t hurt that Quik is a literal G-funk pioneer. A good match on paper doesn’t always meet the results live up to the hype, but JasonMartin and DJ Quik arguably surpass expectations. They create an album that feels familiar and smooth, while at the same time distinct from their solo material. CHUPACABRA might be one of the top West Coast albums of 2024.

Part of the reason CHUPACABRA is so listenable is the musicality. The music is funky, unpredictable, and more experimental than one might expect. “CHUPA’S GROOVE” is a perfect example. It’s an instrumental passage with a bubbly bassline from Thundercat. It transcends rap conventions, yet feels right at home next to verses from Larry June and Bun B. The latter sounds excellent over the synth-heavy “Since I Was Lil.” There are too many guest verses to sift through here, but rest assured that everybody brings their A-game on CHUPACABRA. Ab-Soul is head-spinningly cool on “SOUL CIRCUS”, and CeeLo brings the grit of a classic soul sample on “DITTO.” Try to find a flaw on CHUPACABRA, and you’ll be looking for a long time.

Let us know what you think of this brand-new track, in the comments section down below. Additionally, stay tuned to HNHH for the latest news and updates from around the music world. We will continue to keep you informed on all of your favorite artists and their upcoming projects.

Kaytranada And Channel Tres ‘Drip Sweat’ All Over The Dance Floor In Their Pulsating New ‘Timeless’ Single

The video for “Drip Sweat,” the new single by Kaytranada and Compton house-hop rapper Channel Tres from Kaytra’s upcoming album Timeless, is slippery, steamy, and wet. The two dance music mainstays throw a packed rave in a building’s lobby, complete with strobe lights and a blasting sprinkler system. Think of the rave scene from Blade with more Black people and less blood.

The song is the second single from Timeless after Kaytranada revealed that the previously released “Lover/Friend” with Rochelle Jordan and “Stuntin” also with Channel Tres, were the introductory singles for the album cycle. The album is Kaytra’s first since 2019’s Bubba, which won a Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronic Album and a Grammy for Best Dance Recording for its single “10%.”

Although Kaytranada hasn’t released a solo album in five years, he maintained a presence in the limelight thanks to his collaborations with IDK (Simple) and Aminé (Kaytraminé). He also produced underground hits for R&B stars like Anderson .Paak, Joyce Wrice, Ravyn Lenae, and Victoria Monét, playing at last year’s Coachella with a slew of guest stars, including Kali Uchis. This August, he’ll be one of the performers at Aminé’s inaugural festival, The Best Day Ever.

Timeless is out 6/7 via RCA Records. Find more information here.

Channel Tres Quenches His Thirst With ‘Cactus Water,’ The Groovy New Single From His Upcoming Album, ‘Head Rush’

Genre-bending Compton rapper Channel Tres announced his debut album, Head Rush, earlier this month, following the announcement with the release of its first single, “Berghain” with Barney Bones. Today, he follows up with another new single, “Cactus Water.”

Inspired by Berghain’s techno scene, the funky new track incorporates elements of nu-disco, with a hard-hitting groove, a hefty bassline, and a chattering rhythm guitar. Tres details a new romantic interest, telling his paramour he’s “been a little thirsty lately,” requesting the refreshment of the titular beverage — a thinly veiled reference to after-club activities.

Tres has a busy 2024 schedule coming up, with performances at festivals all over the place. In March, he performed at Boise, Idaho’s Treefort Festival, while this past weekend, he joined Ludacris and an army of dance music DJs in Detroit for Movement Festival. In August, he’s on the lineup for HARD Festival with Disclosure and Nelly Furtado.

Head Rush will be Channel Tres’ first album under RCA Records, to which he signed in 2022, and his second project for the label overall after he dropped his EP Real Cultural Sh*t in February 2023. Head Rush does not have a release date just yet, but you can bet it’ll be sooner rather than later with summer right around the corner.

Channel Tres Begins Rollout For His Impending Debut Album With Lead Single “Berghain” Featuring Barney Bones

After a handful of EPs, loads of features across multiple genres, and several loose singles, Compton, California multi-talent Channel Tres is prepping for his debut album. According to multiple reports, including Pitchfork, the soon-to-be 33-year-old is titling the project Head Rush. The release date is June 14 and will be released through RCA records. To get the ball rolling on it, Channel Tres has decided to drop the project’s lead single “Berghain,” with fellow Cali artist Barney Bones. Over the course of his complex career, Channel has never really fit into one genre. His chameleon-like tendencies shine through on this nightclub ready track once again.

The comparison is apt here because this song has a personal tie to the Berlin, Germany club of the same name. It is personal due to the fact that Channel visited this location, and it inspired him to create this trippy and hypnotic cut. “It’s about the time I played Berghain and how the culture in that environment made me feel, I didn’t feel weird anymore. Everyone’s the same, the goal for everyone in that place is to enjoy themselves and be free, and music played a pivotal role in that, said Tres.

“It was the main thing for me, and I wanted to document that experience I had there through music so that I always have that memory in my life. So, I can feel that memory while I’m performing and relive that experience.” On the track, you can definitely tell that he feels at home on this production and this track certainly is a Head Rush, to say the least. Be sure to support Channel and Barney’s single “Berghain” with the dizzying visuals above.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single “Berghain” by Channel Tres and Barney Bones? Does this get you excited for the multi-hyphenate’s upcoming debut album, why or why not? Who had the stronger performance? Does Channel have one of the most underrated voices in the genre? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Channel Tres And Barney Bones Look Back On Time In ‘Berghain’ On Their New Single

Channel Tres has the summer on lock. This week, the multitalented electronic musician announced his upcoming major label debut album, Head Rush. Tonight (May 3), he has shared the album’s lead single, “Berghain.”

The song features fellow South LA artist Barney Bones, and takes inspiration from Tres‘ travels. Over a zippy, hypnotic track, Tres and Bones imagine a utopia populated by the weirdos and misfits who make life worth living. In this magical world, the dance floor is the sanctuary and music is the heartbeat.

As a touring artist, Channel Tres has seen so many beautiful parts of the world. But Berghain holds a special place in his heart.

“It’s about the time I played Berghain and how the culture in that environment made me feel, I didn’t feel weird anymore,” said Tres in a statment. “Everyone’s the same, the goal for everyone in that place is to enjoy themselves and be free, and music played a pivotal role in that. It was the main thing for me and I wanted to document that experience I had there through music so that I always have that memory in my life. So I can feel that memory while I’m performing and relive that experience.”
