Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin has announced he plans to return to the football field. Speaking from Orchard Park, NY, on Tuesday, Hamlin has received the green light from three separate doctors to return to the NFL.
The announcement comes just over 3½ months after Hamlin’s near-fatal collapse in a Jan. 2 Monday Night Football game. Hamlin suffered from commotio cordis, “an extremely rare consequence of blunt force trauma to the heart that happens at exactly the wrong time in the heart rhythm, causing the heart to stop beating effectively.”
“My heart is still in the game. I love the game. It is something I want to prove to myself, not nobody else,” Hamlin said. “I just wanna show people that that fear is a choice that you can keep going in something without having the answers and without knowing what’s at the end of the tunnel. Or you might feel anxious, you might feel any type of way, but you just keep putting that right foot in front of the left one, and you keep going. I want to stand for that.”

Damar Hamlin’s injury last season shook the entire world to the core. In what looked like a regular football play. Soon turned into a battle for the young man’s life. Hamlin was injured after Bengals WR Tee Higgins’s helmet collided with his chest. The hit caused Hamlin to suffer a medical emergency on the field. Flash forward nearly four months, and Hamlin is getting the best news he could ever hear. It appears that the Buffalo safety has been cleared to return to football activities.
The news is just an incredible story of what many believed at one time would end in tragedy. The entire NFL community rallied behind Hamlin in his time of need. For the rest of last season, players wore shirts in support of Damar during warm-ups. The Bills even brought Hamlin to the stadium for their playoff rematch with the Cincinnati Bengals. In the months since his injury, Hamlin has made a great recovery, as well as pushing for a cause. Recently the young Bills star visited the Capitol to speak on how his life was saved. Hamlin is educating the country on how AED/CPR training should be available in every school in America. CPR and AED are some of the major reasons Hamlin can tell his story today. Hamlin’s fight to give every child that safety during sporting events just shows the character of the man.
While Hamlin is cleared for football activities. However, that doesn’t mean he will be going 100% to get things started. But according to the Bills organization, Hamlin is in Buffalo and ready to begin his journey. Hamlin was just in his second season in the NFL this past year. Stefon Diggs’ time with the Buffalo Bills looks to be reaching its end. The Buffalo receiver has seemingly let everyone know his thoughts on where he would like to be in the future. In Diggs’ last game with the Bills, he was visibly upset at the direction the offense was going. Videos of Diggs and Bills QB Josh Allen circulated on social media after the team’s loss to the Bengals in the playoffs. Now it seems as if Diggs is looking for a fresh start. A fresh start that still has him in the state of New York. But with a team that exemplifies the big city lifestyle.
Last Friday, Diggs tweeted, “Comeeeeee anddddd rescue me…” Which had NFL Twitter speculating that the Buffalo receiver is looking for a new home. Diggs has been no stranger to voicing his frustrations in Buffalo. The team can’t seem to get over the AFC Title game hump. The Bills franchise has long been known for not being able to win the big game. The team achieved four straight Super Bowl appearances in the 90s. Coming up short in each game.
In addition to Diggs’ cryptic tweet, Dallas defensive standout Trevon Diggs replied. Trevon, who is the brother of Stefon, mentioned the two could play each other twice a year. Trevon’s comments could only mean one thing. That being that, the elder Diggs is interested in joining the NFC East. However, which of the three NFC Est options would be viable to Diggs? The New York Giants are in the market for a top receiver. A move to another New York team seems like the most likely landing spot.
Only time will tell if Diggs will be on another roster before the start of the 2023 season. While Buffalo would like to keep Diggs, the team may not have a choice. Keeping a disgruntled player will only create tension inside the locker room. Buffalo still believes they are a top contender in the AFC. Losing Stefon Diggs would be a massive blow to the franchise. On Monday, January 2nd, 2023, Damar Hamlin and the Buffalo Bills took on the Cincinnati Bengals in a key AFC matchup. The cap for Week 17 began without a hitch as the Bengals took an early lead.
Late in the first quarter, the unthinkable happened. Tee Higgins caught a pass from Joe Burrow and turned upfield, putting his shoulder into Hamlin’s chest. The two fell forward to end the play.
Hamlin and Higgins both got up and for a second, all was normal. That second quickly evaporated, though, and Hamlin stumbled to the turf. He collapsed on the field and medical staff began rushing onto the field.
What transpired then was something rarely seen on a football field, nor any pitch, diamond, court or the like.
Damar Hamlin is resuscitated
Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest following a hit in our game versus the Bengals. His heartbeat was restored on the field and he was transferred to the UC Medical Center for further testing and treatment. He is currently sedated and listed in critical condition.
After he fell to the ground, medical staff had to bring Damar Hamlin back to life. The second-year safety required several minutes of CPR to get his heart started back. All the while, the Bills and Bengals gathered in shock at what they had just seen.
Eventually, the medical staff got Hamlin back and put him on a stretcher and took him off the field in an ambulance. He was rushed to the nearby hospital and still in critical condition.
Later that evening, at about 10 pm EST, the NFL postponed the game. They weren’t sure what to do and days later decided to cancel it outright. Despite the major playoff implications, the NFL couldn’t make those players go back out on that field.
It was confirmed the next day that the safety had suffered a cardiac arrest on the field, but had his heartbeat restored there.
The Bills safety remained in the ICU overnight and his condition remained critical.
The first good news
Just chatted with Damar Hamlin’s family friend @jordonr.
Per Jordon and Damar’s family, doctors overnight got promising readings that they had been hoping to see by this morning. Jordon couldn’t go into specifics, but progress appears to be made.
On Wednesday, January 4th, the first sign of good news came. Doctors refrained from giving any specifics, but an ESPN reporter was able to confirm that positive progress had been made overnight.
It was then that it was revealed that Damar Hamlin had been resuscitated twice on the field. Two separate times, the medical staff had to step in to ensure he kept breathing.
The Bills would later announce that Hamlin was making more progress throughout the day.
He’s doing better

On Thursday, January 5th, teammate Kaiir Elam told the world that Hamlin was “doing better.”
The team would later announce that their safety had made significant improvements over the past 24 hours, but that he was not out of the woods yet. They announced that he appeared to be “neurologically intact.”
An NFL reporter said that day that Damar Hamlin had been able to open his eyes and grip the hands of his friends and family- the best sign of improvement yet.
That day was also the first time Hamlin, though not verbally, was able to communicate. The safety asked doctors via pen and paper, “Did we win?”
What could have been and what almost was an unthinkable tragedy was quickly turning into one of the most inspiring stories. The entire world had united around this player who was miraculously recovering before their very eyes.
On Friday, January 6, the medical staff removed the breathing tube, allowing the safety to finally breath entirely on his own. It was at this time that he also was finally able to talk to people, communicating with the team and his family.
At this point, Damar Hamlin was in good spirits. He had and still has a long way to go, but he was finally looking good and told his teammates, “Love you boys.”
Though he was still in the hospital, he watched his Bills take on the New England Patriots on January 8th. It had been three (Hamlin’s jersey number) years and three months to the day since the Bills had run back a kickoff for a touchdown.
On the opening kick, Nyheim Hines ran it back for a score, inspiring all watching- including Hamlin from his hospital room.

After a very long week, Damar Hamlin was finally able to leave the hospital in Cincinnati. He was transferred back home to Buffalo, though he remained under care in a hospital there.
He would continue to undergo testing and receive care in Buffalo, but continues to make an impressive recovery. On Wednesday, nine days after being admitted, the star safety was finally discharged to continue his rehab from home.
Jamie Nadler, the physician who was in charge of Hamlin’s care, said:
“We are confident that Damar can be safely discharged to continue his rehabilitation at home and with the Bills.”
On January 14, Hamlin reappeared in the Bills’ locker room prior to their emotional playoff victory over the Miami Dolphins.
On February 12, he was seen and honored on the field ahead of the Super Bowl. This was his first major appearance in public since his cardiac arrest more than a month prior.
It has been a long, strenuous and often unclear journey for Hamlin. It was recently reported that the safety would eventually be able to play football again if he wanted. Not long ago, that seemed entirely trivial and totally out of the question.
Damar Hamlin is one of the most interesting men in the NFL right now. Overall, this is due to some unfortunate circumstances. However, Hamlin has been making the most of his situation by showcasing just how much he appreciates the support. When Hamlin collapsed on the field, many feared for his life. With the help of medical professionals who were quick to offer assistance, Hamlin was able to live. Now, he is immersing himself in various charitable endeavors, all while being an inspiration to so many.
Throughout this past week, Hamlin has been in Arizona for the Super Bowl. Although his Bills didn’t make it to the big game, he decided to show up and be one of the various guests of the league. Overall, his presence at the event has been quite impactful. Moreover, he has also given a few interviews. For instance, he spoke with Good Morning America where he was asked about the prospect of playing again. For the most part, Hamlin is not opposed to it and would even prefer to. Although, he is going to have to wait before doing so.

“Eventually, that’s always the goal, but I’m allowing that to be in God’s hands,” Hamlin said. “They can’t really tell because it’s like — it’s a up to me thing, I guess, or it’s a long road. They’re just worried about trying to get me back to normal as much as they can.” What Hamlin went through was extremely traumatic, so it makes sense that he would need to take a bit of time off. Either way, he has proven to be an extremely inspiring figure who is a demonstration of how far the medical field has come.
Hopefully, Hamlin is able to get back on the field soon. His comeback game would bring forth tons of fanfare, and the NFL community would love it. “Every day I am amazed that my experiences could encourage so many others across the country and across the world,” Hamlin said. “Encourage to pray, encourage to spread love, and encourage keep fighting no matter the circumstances. Sudden cardiac arrest was nothing I would have ever chosen to have been a part of my story, but that’s because sometimes our own visions are too small even when we think we’re seeing a bigger picture. My vision was about playing in the NFL and being the best player I could be. But God’s plan was to have a purpose greater than any game in this world.”
Moving forward, Hamlin has been told that he will be able to play football again. However, as it stands, Hamlin has yet to express any interest in doing so. For now, he is simply taking it one day at a time. This is a pretty good way of going about things, as he has gone through a very traumatic incident. Hopefully, he continues to recover on his terms. I think it was important for me to wait and speak publicly at the right time, as it was just a lot to process within my own self. Mentally, physically, even spiritually, it’s just been a lot to process. But I can’t tell you how appreciative I am of all the love, all the support, and everything that’s just been coming in my way.

“What happened to me on Monday Night Football I feel is a direct example of God using me as a vessel to share my passion and my love directly from my heart with the entire world. Later, the Bills star went on to thank the medical teams at the Bills organization, the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, and Buffalo General Hospital. Also, he thanked his mom, dad, little brother, and friends and family for their unwavering presence. While Hamlin processed a lot in a short time, he thanked people from every corner of his recovery. Moreover, he thanked his teammates, NFL fans, and many others.

During an appearance on Kyle Brandt’s Basement, Josh Allen addressed the conspiracy. As you can imagine, he was shocked that it exists. Furthermore, he immediately called it out for being baseless.

Damar Hamlin Conspiracies
Unfortunately, a large chunk of people have Damar Hamlin trending today, and for all of the wrong reasons. There are some people out there who believe Hamlin actually died on the field, and it is all because of the vaccine. These conspiracy theorists think that the NFL is trying to cover this up and that Hamlin is being played by some sort of clone.
Overall, these theories are simply ridiculous. After all, there would have to be a whole lot of coordination for this to happen. Moreover, Hamlin has shown his face to the camera on numerous occasions since the incident. However, since he opted to cover his face on Sunday, some people are letting their imaginations run wild. In the tweet below, Hamlin trolled those who are theorizing about his mortality.
Additionally, rational people who live in the real world are calling cap on all of this. In the various tweets below, people made it clear that they find all of this to be ridiculous. At this point, conjuring up such conspiracy theories to push an agenda is offputting, and people just don’t want to hear it.

Stefon Diggs is one of the best wide receivers in the NFL. This weekend, he is going to have a huge task ahead of him as his Buffalo Bills look to defeat the Cincinnati Bengals. The winner of this game will play in the AFC Championship game against either the Chiefs or Jaguars.

Stefon Diggs Kicks Back And Relaxes
Ahead of this game, Stefon Diggs has been spending some time at home where he can just relax and get tuned in. As it turns out, he was watching some TV on Wednesday night, and stumbled upon the premiere of Dana White’s Power Slap league.
For those who don’t know, Power Slap capitalizes on the growing sport of slap boxing. It can be a pretty brutal sport, and Diggs found that out while watching. In the video clip below, Diggs offered some hilarious commentary while watching some matches. Overall, he was mesmerized by the sport, and it seems as though Power Slap has a new fan.
Diggs was not the only one on social media who had something to say about Power Slap. There were plenty of hilarious reactions to the new league. However, there were certainly some detractors out there who feel like this is just going to give people brain damage.
