Jonah Hill Chooses His Top Five Rappers In A Deleted ‘You People’ Scene And Gets Flak For His Eminem Pick

Jonah Hill and Eddie Murphy team up for You People, but in a scene that didn’t make the film’s final cut, more legends find their way into the movie. Specifically, a number of hip-hop icons, when Hill’s character makes his pick for the top five rappers ever and gets roasted for including Eminem.

In the clip, Ezra (Hill’s character) and Mo (played by Sam Jay) are hosting an episode of their The Mo & E-Z Show podcast when the topic of their top five rappers comes up. Ezra makes his picks: “1. Jay-Z, 2. Biggie, 3. 2Pac, 4. Nas, and 5. Eminem.”

Mo responds, “That’s in order? — Eminem though?” Ezra replies, “Why do I have to keep defending Shady? I mean, his sole purpose is to be on other people’s tracks and murder them. I mean, ‘Renegade?’ ‘Dead Wrong,’” he says in reference to tracks by Jay-Z and The Notorious B.I.G.

Mo then says, “Dog, he’s like, I don’t know the Larry Bird of rap, you know what I mean? He’s not great: He’s just great because he’s a white man in a Black man’s game.” Ezra retorts, “That is so stupid. That might be the dumbest sh*t you’ve ever said to me.”

Diddy’s Ex-Bodyguard Accuses Snoop Dogg Of Lying About Relationship With Biggie

Diddy’s former bodyguard just accused Snoop Dogg of inflating the extent of his friendship with Biggie Smalls. Moreover, Gene Deal inquired as to why Snoop’s supposedly tight relationships with the New York rapper, as well as Tupac, weren’t highly publicized until after their tragic passing. “That’s something that sounds good for the media,” Deal declared of Snoop’s stories of friendship with the two. “You know, ‘I’m the peacemaker. I’m the one that’s showing love. I’m the one that’s out here when everybody else is dead, wishing that I coulda did something to put the s**t together.’

“It wasn’t all that love until ‘Pac was dead,” he went on in the interview with The Art Of Dialogue. “Wasn’t Big out in California three, four weeks and Snoop never saw him? Snoop never came and smoked nothing wit’ him. Snoop never came and ate nothing with him. But it was a lot of love? Come on, man.” Since the loss of the Brooklyn legend in 1997, the Dogg Pound leader repeatedly spoke on their relationship and mutual respect. For example, in an interview with the Rap Radar Podcast in 2018, Snoop recounted when he and Biggie discussed Tupac’s death. After a shooting happened while Tha Dogg Pound filmed the “NY, NY” music video in Brooklyn, Snoop felt Big was responsible. Moreover, they didn’t take action due to East Coast and West Coast tensions. However, the two rappers ran into each other in Atlanta and came to an understanding.

“It’s just me and him, one on one,” the Long Beach legend elaborated. “And he giving me the rundown about how much he loved Tupac and he didn’t wanna see cuz die. And a lot of shit that he said and did, he was wrong for. He just was apologizing like a man, to me. Just getting an understanding on what he did, ’cause I never tripped on him for what he did. That was a Dogg Pound video, that wasn’t a Tupac video. And we got shot at, and the direct shot came from him. But nobody got hit so we let it go. So with him apologizing to me, we became friends again.”

Meanwhile, Deal said that he couldn’t corroborate whether that conversation actually happened, as he wasn’t present. Still, he raised eyebrows at Snoop meeting Big in another city when he claimed they never linked in Los Angeles. “I can see you in Atlanta,” Deal said, “but I can’t see you in California in my own hometown? Huh? I’m so gangsta, I can come to your hotel room by myself in Atlanta. But in California, I can’t come and see you? Alright.” Check out the interview clip above and return to HNHH for the latest news in hip-hop history.

Biggie Smalls Air Jordans Sold At Auction For Over $30K

The Notorious B.I.G. is arguably the greatest rapper of all time, and the only thing that rivals the history of that debate is the history of his impact. 23 pairs of Biggie Smalls Air Jordans sold for over $30K at an auction this week. The Sotheby’s auction closed on Friday (February 3), with the highest bid being a 9.5 and 10.5 pair for $32,760 each. Furthermore, the Christopher Wallace Air Jordan XIII came from a partnership between Jordan Brand and the Christopher Wallace Memorial Foundation.

While they created it in 2017 on what would’ve been Biggie’s 45th birthday, they kept it under wraps. Much later, their unveil took place this week in honor of hip-hop’s 50th anniversary. However, it’s not all that this specific colorway of Jordan 13s honors. Moreover, the shoe celebrates February 3, 2023 (2/3/23), representing Michael Jordan’s jersey number. What’s more is that this shoe kicks off the “Jordan Year,” which will presumably celebrate the raging Bull in many ways. However, the best news here is that Biggie’s limited edition Jordans look really nice.

For example, the sneaker features a black and anthracite upper with images and phrases from Biggie’s iconography. The tongue displays Christopher Wallace’s iconic silhouette, and the shoe as a whole tributes his legacy, willpower, and faith. Also, they designed the sneaker with black and red flannel-designed sock liner and insoles. On the tongue tag, it reads, “It was all a dream” and “If you don’t know, now you know.” In addition, the word “dream” is etched on metal aglets. According to a post from Biggie’s official IG page, all auction proceeds will go to the Christopher Wallace Memorial Foundation.

Moreover, the foundation “aims to empower inner-city youth with educational learning instruments, sponsorships, grants and community-based mentorship programs and campaigns, all in line with its motto, ‘Think B.I.G.’ Books Instead of Guns.’ What do you think about these limited edition Air Jordans featuring Biggie Smalls? Whatever the case, let us know in the comments below. Also, as always, come back to HNHH for more stories on hip-hop history and the enduring influence of the greats.

Styles P Details Why Biggie Is The GOAT, Saying He “Was Really, Really Nice In All Categories”

Nearly 25 years after Notorious B.I.G.’s death, his musical influence and legacy continue to remain in discussion, with many citing the Brooklyn emcee as the best to ever do it. Styles P recently sparked the debate again in a recent sit-down, explaining why he thought Biggie deserves the GOAT title.

In an interview with Creators Club, the famed member of the Lox wasn’t shy about his admiration for the “Big Poppa” rapper.

“What makes him the greatest [is] he was really great in all aspects of rhyming. Most people are good in two categories, maybe three if you’re pushing it. Big was really, really nice in all categories,” the “Good Times rapper stated.

Mentioning Biggie Smalls’ multifaceted character, Styles P added, “But what really topped it off was he was a charismatic individual, but he was very f**king classy and G at the same time. So he ain’t just treat me, Kiss, and Louch good. He treated all of our homeboys good.”

Style P also sang the late rapper’s praises last year, calling him the “greatest emcee that has ever existed” and making it clear that he isn’t giving him the honor because of his early death.

In 1996, Styles P along with Lox members Jadakiss and Sheek Louch collaborated with Biggie on the track “You’ll See.” While on Drink Champs this past February, Styles P revealed that he was actually dissing his group in the song’s lyrics.

After being questioned on which line contained shots aimed at the Lox, he replied, “Almost the whole sh*t.”

Explaining that it was simply a part of hip-hop culture at the time, he also shared, “The whole 90s — you gotta go back and listen to the whole golden era. That’s all darts and back-and-forth at each other… It’s all quoted subs in the 90s.”

Later in the interview, Styles P doubled down on his view that Biggie is the GOAT while also giving himself a pat on the back, asserting, “I think I’m better than everybody but Big.”

Do you agree that Biggie is the clear GOAT of hip-hop? Share your take in the comments.

Mural Of Biggie Smalls Vandalized In Brooklyn

biggie

A Biggie Smalls mural located in Brooklyn was defaced on Thursday night, August 25. The vandals splattered red paint on the mural and wrote the words “East Coast” under it.

The mural is located on the corner of Saint James Place and Fulton Street in Clinton Hill next to a Beauty salon. What’s particularly special about the mural is that its located in the same neighborhood where Biggie grew up.

Vincent Ballentine, the artist who spent 2 days creating the mural, was disheartened by the vandals actions. “I woke up to this,” Ballentine said to CBS News. “I think the neighborhood really saw it as he was one of ours, and he made it out and he made something of himself. That’s the story people hold on to,” he added.

Johnny Famous from Hush Hip Hop Tours said, “This is his stomping ground, everything. Biggie means a lot to the whole world, so for somebody to do this, it’s ridiculous. “I know there’s a million cameras out here. Somebody saw something.”

“This is unfortunate. A lot of hard work went into putting the artwork up by the artist and also the business owners and the neighborhood really appreciated it. People come from all over the world to come take a picture in front of this mural,” said LeRoy McCarthy, a Clinton Hill resident.

People also took to Twitter where they voiced their anger at whoever vandalized the mural.
