Will Smith And Martin Lawrence Film “Bad Boys 4” Shootout On Atlanta Streets

Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are currently actively involved in the production of their new movie, Bad Boys 4. The dynamic duo experienced great success at the box office when they joined forces once again for the third installment of the Bad Boys series, titled Bad Boys for Life, in 2020. Recently, the two were seen on set in Atlanta filming scenes for this highly anticipated fourth installment. In an Instagram video posted in January, the two actors thrilled fans with the announcement of the upcoming film, captioning it with the words “IT’S ABOUT THAT TIME!”

During the CinemaCon event in April, Smith and Lawrence appeared in a special video to address their absence from the Las Vegas gathering. They playfully explained that they couldn’t attend because they were fully engaged in the filming of the sequel, which had already been in progress for four weeks at that point. With a touch of humor, Lawrence jokingly stated, “We’re not sorry we couldn’t be there.” Smith chimed in, saying, “We’re glad we’re not there because we’re here, and they’re paying us to be here.” Both actors expressed genuine excitement and enthusiasm for Bad Boys 4, describing themselves as “hyped” about the project. The new footage below shows that they are still filming the sequel.

Smith And Lawrence Come Out Guns Blazing For “Bad Boys 4”

Will Smith and Martin Lawrence were once again captured on film shooting a scene for Bad Boys 4. The gripping and remarkably realistic action scene was shot in an Atlanta neighborhood. TMZ obtained exclusive footage taken from a nearby building. It showcases the cast and crew as they filmed an intense shoot-out sequence for the highly-anticipated sequel.

In the video, Detectives Mike Lowrey (played by Will Smith) and Marcus Miles Burnett (played by Martin Lawrence) take center stage in a fast-paced and explosive sequence. The scene depicts the two characters navigating through a parking lot. There, they suddenly find themselves under attack, with a hail of bullets raining down on them. In the midst of the chaos, they seek cover while retaliating against their assailants. Sadly, a couple of their fellow police officers appear to be taken down during the intense firefight. Martin and Will’s characters managed to survive the onslaught, of course. It is a fitting and unsurprising outcome for the stars of this action-packed franchise. The dynamic duo experienced great success at the box office when they joined forces once again for the third installment of the Bad Boys series, titled Bad Boys for Life, in 2020. It was an impressive reunion, taking place 25 years after the release of the original film. During a summer interview with Ebony magazine, Martin Lawrence expressed his optimism about the possibility of another Bad Boys sequel. The actor hinted at having at least one more installment in the pipeline.

Reflecting on the impact of the first film, Lawrence emphasized the significance of their collaboration and their ability to attract audiences and generate substantial revenue. He highlighted the groundbreaking achievement of two black sitcom stars proving their box office prowess. Furthermore, the actor shared his personal perspective on his career. He explained that while he didn’t pursue higher education, his time in television served as a valuable learning experience. For him, transitioning to the world of movies felt like a different kind of accomplishment, akin to graduating from college.

Tasha Smith Replaces Theresa Randle In “Bad Boys 4”

Bad Boys 4 is reportedly in production, with Will Smith and Martin Lawrence both returning to portray their iconic cop duo. Their last outing was Bad Boys For Life in 2020. That film, the third installment in the franchise, earned a 79% critics rating and a 96% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, not everyone from the previous films is set to return.

For the first three films in the Bad Boys franchise, Theresa Randle portrayed Theresa Burnett, the wife of Martin Lawrence’s Marcus Burnett. While a small role in the franchise, Randle’s performance went a long way to establishing a critical part of Burnett’s character. It established him as the safe, married man in contrast to Will Smith’s more playboy Mike Lowrey. The character has appeared in all three Bad Boys movies. However, on-set rumors appear to show a new face taking on the role.

While little is known about Bad Boys 4, Theresa Randle is reportedly not involved. Instead, the role of Theresa Burnett will be recast. Initially reported by Variety, no reason has been given for why Randle has stepped away from the franchise. She is not slated to appear in any upcoming projects, with Bad Boys For Life (2020) being her last on-screen role. However, it is clear that she will not be part of the franchise going forward.

According to the Variety report, Tasha Smith is set to take on the role of Theresa Burnett. Smith is a Hollywood veteran with a variety of credits under her belt. However, she is best known for Tyler Perry’s For Better Or Worse and Empire. She has also made a name for herself as an accomplished television director. Most recently, she is credited with directing three episodes of BMF. She also directed an episode of Bel Air, the spinoff of a show that famous replaced its female lead mid-run. Bad Boys 4 is still in the early stages of production. At CinemaCon in April, Smith and Lawrence told a panel that they were approximately four weeks into shooting. There is no currently no scheduled release date for Bad Boys 4.

Will Smith & Martin Lawrence Announce “Bad Boys 4”

Detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett are returning to the screen for Bad Boys 4.

Will Smith and Martin Lawrence will return for a new installment in the buddy-cop film series. Sony Pictures confirmed Bad Boys 4 is currently in pre-production following recent speculation. Chris Bremner handled the script and Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah returned as the directors.

It doesn’t come as much of a surprise that the duo will return to their beloved roles. Bad Boys For Life debuted in 2020 and brought in $59M in its opening weekend at the box office. However, there have been several delays in the past three years, though the infamous Oscars moment wasn’t one of them. Sony chairman Tom Rothman revealed that the film wasn’t held up due to the controversial incident.

“No. That was inaccurate,” Rothman said. “That movie’s been in development and still is. There weren’t any brakes to pump because the car wasn’t moving. That was a very unfortunate thing that happened, and I don’t think it’s really my place to comment, except to say that I’ve known Will Smith for many years, and I know him to be a good person. That was an example of a very good person having a very bad moment, in front of the world. I believe his apology and regret is genuine, and I believe in forgiveness and redemption.”

Martin Lawrence echoed a similar sentiment afterward, confirming that they “got one more at least.”

In addition to Bad Boys 4, a report from The Sun indicated that Smith will also return to his role as Genie in the next Aladdin movie.

After Will Smith’s infamous slap at the Academy Awards this year, the King Richard actor was heavily scrutinized for his actions. He was banned from the awards show for 10 years even after leaving the Academy, and it was reported that many of his projects were put on hold as well.

However, it seems the slap won’t get in the way of one of the projects, according to legendary comedian and Bad Boys co-star Martin Lawrence.

In a new interview with Ebony magazine, Martin talked about the franchise saying how having an action movie with two Black leads was a big deal in Hollywood.

“It was big,” Martin said about the movie. “For us to come together and prove that we can deliver, and we can pull people into the box office—that two Black stars, two sitcom stars, could make money at the box office [was huge].” It also was an important pivot for him personally and professionally. “I didn’t go to college, so I felt TV was my college years,” explains Lawrence. “I felt with movies, I had graduated; it was just different.”

When asked if Will Smith’s Oscars incident will impact the creation of a 4th film, Lawrence said “We got one more at least.”

Sony Chairman Says ‘Bad Boys 4’ Never Halted After Will Smith’s Oscar Incident, Film Still in Development

For those who want to see another installment of Mike Lowry and Marcus Burnett, don’t fret, Bad Boys 4 is on the way. Sony Chairman Tom Rothman stated the film starring Will Smith, alongside Martin Lawrence, was never stalled following Smith’s Oscar slapped.

“That was innacurate… That movie’s been in development and still is,” Rothman said, according to Indie Wire. “There weren’t any brakes to pump because the car wasn’t moving.”

The third edition of the franchise, Bad Boys For Life, was released in 2022. A fourth edition was quickly greenlit following the film’s success. After the Oscars slap, it was believed the film was placed on hold with numerous other projects that included Smith.

Rothman added,  “That was a very unfortunate thing that happened, and I don’t think it’s really my place to comment, except to say that I’ve known Will Smith for many years, and I know him to be a good person. That was an example of a very good person having a very bad moment, in front of the world. I believe his apology and regret is genuine, and I believe in forgiveness and redemption.”

In April, Bloomberg’s Lucas Shaw reported Netflix is giving up on a sequel to Smith’s Sci-Fi action film Bright. The sequel’s cancellation is not associated with the slap of Chris Rock. Just last summer, a report cited the film was in the final stages of creating a script, bringing back Smith, Joel Edgerton, and director David Ayer. Netflix’s Fast and Loose film, which stars Smith, is now in slower development. Smith’s show with National Geographic is experiencing a delay; however, the show will continue.
