Adam Sandler Gets Serious In “Spaceman”: What We Know

Adam Sandler gained primary recognition for his roles in silly family comedies like The Waterboy, Grown Ups, and his recent Netflix animated film, Leo. However, despite his inclination towards hilarious antics, the actor has occasionally showcased his dramatic skills. This is particularly evident in complex art films such as Punch-Drunk Love, Reign Over Me, and the critically acclaimed Uncut Gems. The next upcoming outing from Adam Sandler, Spaceman, looks to be another example of the latter. Sandler brings an emotionally layered performance in a tear-jerking story with serious themes and tones.

The Film Is An Adaptation Of A Novel

Adam Sandler’s Spaceman will adapt the story of Jaroslav Kalfař’s 2017 novel Spaceman of Bohemia. Colby Day wrote the screenplay for the film, and Johan Renck will direct. Renck has gained recognition for directing multiple episodes of hit television series such as Breaking Bad and overseeing directing duties on the entire limited series Chernobyl.

Spaceman tells the story of an eponymous astronaut who encounters a mysterious creature from the beginning of time while on a mission to collect samples at the edge of his solar system. The creature, which is capable of speech and advanced thought, acts as something of a friend to the Spaceman, supporting him as he struggles with a number of problems back on Earth.

Adam Sandler’s character grapples with a major issue as his prolonged trip jeopardizes the state of his marriage. Per the trailer, the creature will help Sandler regain and maintain a healthy relationship with his wife in a touching partnership. The film features performances from The Batman‘s Paul Dano as the space creature, which resembles an enormous, terrifying black spider, and Carey Mulligan, who portrays the Spaceman’s pregnant wife back on Earth’s soil.

The Film Will Premiere At A Festival Before Hitting Netflix

Adam Sandler’s Spaceman will premiere on Netflix on March 1, though international viewers may have a chance to see it even sooner. Next month, the movie is gearing up to captivate audiences at the 74th Berlin International Film Festival, where it has secured a coveted spot in the Berlinale Special line-up.

The initial filming of Spaceman took place in various locations, including New York and Prague, throughout the entirety of 2021. Originally scheduled for a 2023 release, the film faced setbacks due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes spanning from May to November 2023, consequently pushing back the final release date.

The film seems to be one of several dramatic outings planned for Adam Sandler in the coming years, as the beloved actor also has a Safdie brothers collaboration in his future. Sandler previously collaborated with the filmmaking duo for the 2019 hit film Uncut Gems, which generated a great deal of Oscar buzz. With any luck, Spaceman could be Sandler’s next shot at an Academy Award.

Adam Sandler Cosigns On EarthGang’s “Bobby Boucher” Video

Adam Sandler is a staple of the comedic industry. Now he’s getting the hip-hop treatment with EarthGang’s latest track, “Bobby Boucher.” The song features Benji. and Spillage Village, with EarthGang providing the verses. They recently dropped a music video for the single, and we know of at least one fan of the song and visual production. Sandler, the man behind the Bobby Boucher character from 1998’s The Waterboy, saw the video and Tweeted his approval of the whole vibe.

“Yo, EARTHGANG!” Sandler said on Twitter. “Singing along with you! Love, Bobby B.” He also retweeted the music video clip where one-half of EarthGang is sitting on a riding lawnmower, their version of Helen “Mama” Boucher in the background. EarthGang’s intention behind the song is a cross-generational appreciation of The Waterboy, something Adam Sandler appreciates. He wrote and starred in the film that launched his movie career after a successful SNL stint. Now, the character of a mentally challenged waterboy-turned-football star is immortalized in hip-hop lore.

EarthGang Gets The Adam Sandler Stamp (Tweet) Of Approval

Adam Sandler has been doing more projects that veer into the hip-hop culture, including many feature films that prominently capitalize on the hip-hop sport, basketball. Uncut Gems, a Safdie brothers film, stars Sandler as a New York jewelry salesman who collaborates with Kevin Garnett back when he was with the Boston Celtics. The 2022 film Hustle shows Sandler trying his hand at being an NBA scout. Numerous basketball stars and figures graced the silver screen for that particular movie.

Now, Sandler has his own rap track, with EarthGang showing their love for one of his original movies. The hip-hop duo is still recovering from misplacing their backpack that had a music hard drive in it. That hard drive contained a lot of their unreleased music. However, despite this setback, this new “Bobby Boucher” music video is doing well. The YouTube video has almost 140k views in four days. With the Adam Sandler seal of approval, the video should get a tremendous boost for the next few days.

Earthgang’s ‘Bobby Boucher’ Video Is Adam Sandler-Approved, And They Didn’t Even Have To Open Up A Can Of Whoop-Ass

The water sucks in the 1998’s film The Waterboy universe, but Earthgang’s present-day witty bars sure don’t. In fact, their latest video, for the single “Bobby Boucher,” just earned the Adam Sandler seal of approval, and they didn’t even have to open a can of whoop-ass to secure it.

The video, which Seales directed, brought the actor’s beloved movie back to life. Seales squeezed in the story’s most memorable moments in under four minutes, including a beer pong showdown, a high stake football game, and an overbearing mother.

Earthgang’s tribute to The Waterboy extended beyond its video. Their love for the film was also present in the song’s chorus as they rapped, “Luck be my lady, I’m up a couple thousand / Playin’ roulette like Bobby Boucher / Wa-wa-water on a Tuesday for all this D’Ussé / I surely feel like I’m drunk / I probably drink the Kool-Aid, that sh*t be packin’ a punch / It’s like a jab to the face, I’m probably not gettin’ enough.”

Earthgang devotes countless hours to producing over-the-top videos, as witness the ones for past songs like “Billi” and “Amen.” But for “Bobby Boucher,” their approach was much sharper, as they pulled from a fellow entertainer’s work.

Flattered by the creative nod, Sandler took to Twitter to return the love. “Yo, Earthgang! Singing along with you! Love, Bobby B,” tweeted the comedian.

WowGr8 of the group screenshot the compliment, then reposted it to their personal Instagram page, writing, “Holy sh*t. Holy sh*t. Holy sh*t. This is one of the best things that could happen for this video! EarthGang’s ‘Bobby Boucher’ video is out now! I can’t believe Adam Sandler saw this! I studied him intently for the treatment and execution of this video.”

As far as films go, the world is anxiously awaiting the “Hot Girl Summer” hitmaker’s theatrical debut in A24’s upcoming musical comedy, F*cking Identical Twins. Other famous faces in the cast include Nathan Lane, Bowen Yang, and Megan Mullaly.

In other news, now that she’s officially back outside following a hiatus after Tory Lanez’s trial, Megan Thee Stallion is preparing for her first performance of the year on Friday (March 31).
