Diddy’s Connection to the Tragic City College Stampede

Diddy

Diddy, the renowned music mogul and entrepreneur, found himself at the center of a haunting chapter from the past. On December 28th, 1991, a shocking incident unfolded at City College, as eight individuals lost their lives and dozens more were injured in a stampede that featured Diddy who was known as Puff Daddy.

Diddy & His Black Cloud

In the early 90s, the music world buzzed with excitement for the first Heavy D. and Puff Daddy Celebrity Charity basketball game, scheduled to take place at City College. Promoted extensively on KISS FM 98.7, the event promised a star-studded lineup including Boyz II Men, Run-DMC, Jodeci, Heavy D, and Big Daddy Kane. However, the evening turned into a horrifying ordeal when hundreds of rap music fans descended upon the City College gym, resulting in a tragic stampede.

As the eager crowd surged towards the entrance, chaos ensued as people struggled to gain entry into the packed gymnasium. Crushed against walls, thrown to the floor, and trampled by fellow spectators, eight individuals lost their lives while many others sustained injuries. The victims, including Leonard Nelson Jr., Laytesha Heard, Sonya Williams, Dawn McCaine, Yul Dargan, Charise Ann Noel, Darren Brown, and Dirk Swain, were from various locations throughout New York.

In the aftermath of the City College stampede, multiple wrongful death and personal injury lawsuits were filed.

“It does not take an Einstein to know that young people attending a rap concert camouflaged as a ‘celebrity basketball game,’ who have paid as much as $20 a ticket, would not be very happy and easy to control if they were unable to gain admission to the event because it was oversold,” said Judge Louis Benza as he ruled in a 73-page decision against the umbrella City University of New York.

Benza found City College 50% responsible, Diddy 25% responsible and Heavy D 25% responsible. The Judge also said Combs’ security people were responsible for the fatal mistake of closing the stairwell door to the gym.

Surprisingly, no criminal charges were ever brought forth despite the devastating loss of life and the widespread injuries. However, the incident left a lasting impact on the music industry and the fans who attended that ill-fated night.

The City College Documentary

Years later, the City College stampede continues to capture attention, with a documentary titled “No Way Out” shedding light on the tragedy. Produced by Jason Swain, younger brother of Dirk Swain, the documentary explores the events of that evening and features testimonials from the stars who were present. “No Way Out” can be found on Vimeo on Demand, offering a somber glimpse into the untold stories surrounding the City College stampede.

Soulja Boy Claims That “Crank That” Would Be Even More Popular If It Dropped Today

Music has changed quite a bit since Soulja Boy dropped one of the first ever viral hits “Crank That.” The song still defines the ringtone rap era and became a success through the internet in a way almost no songs before ever had. But the way music catches fire online is very different now than it ever has been before. Much of that shift is due to TikTok. Soulja himself recognizes how different things could have been for hit breakthrough song if it had been released today.

In a new interview, he confidently claims that the song would be even bigger if it was released today than it was back then. It’s hard to imagine the song being even bigger given that the track spent 7 weeks at the number one spot on the Hot 100. It also spawned one of the biggest dance trends of the 2000s which is stuck in the heads of many fans to this day. With hit songs coming from TikTok being more ubiquitous than ever it’s easy to see why he thinks the track could be even more of a hit. Check out the interview clip where he brings it up below.

Soulja Boy Thinks “Crank That” Would Be Even Bigger

In the comments of a post about Soulja Boy’s claims, fans largely agree with him. “During Tiktok times?! Absolutely,” one of the top comments on the post reads. Plenty of others agree. “For sure!!! TikTok would’ve ate it up with the dance moves,” one comment reads. But not all the responses are in agreement. “Nah he actually sold physical cds not to mention the song still spinning and viral after 15 years, can’t beat that with a stick,” another top comment read.

Much of the fan discussion around Soulja Boy recently has to do with his ongoing beef with Blueface. What do you think of Soulja Boy’s claim that “Crank That” would be even bigger if it was released today? Do you agree with his take? Let us know in the comment section below.

Blueface Shoots His Shot At Drive-Thru, Asks Employees For Their Numbers

It’s no secret that Blueface continues to go through ups and downs in his relationships, and it seems like these days, the embattled rapper is looking for someone new. Earlier this week, he shared a clip of himself pulling up to the drive-thru at a fast-food restaurant, where one of the employees caught his eye. He proceeded to holler at the young woman from the passenger seat, urging her to write her phone number on a receipt for him.

“How you doin’? Can I get your number?” he asked, eliciting excited screams from her and a nearby coworker. “Put your number on the receipt — both of ya’ll […] don’t charge me, baby, get that feed later,” he then added. It’s unclear whether or not Blueface actually got either of the ladies’ numbers, but regardless, the gesture appears to have made their night.

Fast Food Restaurant Workers React To Blueface’s Request

Some could argue that the employees might be better off keeping their distance from the 26-year-old father of three, however, as he doesn’t have the best track record when it comes to relationships. The mother of his youngest child, for example, continues to be plagued with unending drama since their little one arrived. Though he and Chrisean Rock are no longer an item, he frequently takes aim at the Baltimore MC online, even denying being the father of her son.

As for the mother of his other kids, Jaidyn Alexis, Blueface recently claimed to have purchased her a four-story home for Christmas. According to Chrisean, however, the “Barbie” performer’s earnings are what will actually be covering the bills. “Why won’t you just give the b**ch credit?” she wondered on Instagram Live. “She bought her own house, like, ni**a you ain’t buy s**t.” What do you think of Blueface asking a fast food employee for her phone number? What about her and her coworker’s reactions to the request? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below, and keep an eye on HNHH for more updates.

Kenny Mason Extends “Facts” With A Killer New Verse For His Latest Single: Stream

When you talk about the most versatile and talented artists in hip-hop right now, you’d be a fool to leave Kenny Mason out of the lineup. He’s been making incredible music for almost a decade now, and always finds new ways to incorporate Southern trap flavors, alternative rock, grunge, and much more under the sun. Recently, the West Atlanta native brought us a short but impactful set of three songs on his HIGHWAY 9 EP, holding us over until his next full-length. Particularly, it seems like he and fans alike developed a special affinity for the track “FACTS,” thanks to its moody fusion of languid and cold guitars with cavernous trap drums and woozy synths.

As such, Kenny Mason couldn’t help himself, and just dropped a visual for an extended version of “FACTS” with a third verse. Not only that, but the record also contains a perfect interlude between the last chorus on the original track and this new verse, led by brighter guitar licks before returning to its original downtrodden riff. Still, the 29-year-old raps with such conviction on this extra verse that it sounds borderline triumphant. Lyrically, he focuses on empathy for the streets and having to balance his “militant” roots with new dreams, aspirations, and goals. It’s a more fiery performance compared to the other two verses, and exactly the kind of blunt defiance that this catalog represents.

As always, keep checking in with HNHH for more great music releases around the clock.

Quotable Lyrics
I’m energized by the drugs, so feeling can’t walk to this beat on my own drum,
Now when I’m riding with drum extensions, now when that fire in my lungs,
It’s lifting my brain right out of my skull and twisting it, thought I kept all of these
Thoughts to myself, found out that angels above were listening
