Coi Leray Remixes YN Jay’s Smash Hit “Triple S”

Flint-based emcee YN Jay has accumulated quite the fanbase due to his lurid lyrics and bouncy flow. Once again, the rapper has delivered with a remix to the Tik-Tok smash “Triple S,” assisted by none other than XXL Freshman Coi Leray. Not to mention the original song garnered over 19 million streams on Spotify, making it far more than just another viral hit.

The original track earned high praise from numerous outlets, with Pitchfork writing “there is Bruce Wayne and Batman, Clark Kent and Superman. And now, YN jay and the Coochie Mann.” In other words, YN Jay is to coochie what Lil Wayne is to pussy: a connoisseur, if you will.

It’s also been announced that his album titled, you guessed it, Coochie Chronicles is set to drop on June 30. Let us know if this remix has got you looking forward to hearing more.

Quotable Lyrics:

I’ma put this asshole in his face, almost broke the chair
I just got my braids done baby, don’t pull my hair
Verdi sent the new SB’s, I want every pair
See that boy in public, told his ass he can’t hug me
Whole gang flyer than a B-Mo buggy
Bitch, I love money sign, baby you can’t love me

Kodak Black Explains Why He Used A Helicopter In Kobe Bryant Tribute

Kodak Black’s intent was pure, but his delivery was slightly insensitive. Some fans are upset about the rapper’s recent tribute to Kobe Bryant, which he posted on his twenty-fourth birthday. Getting his Tesla Model X decked out in purple and yellow while rocking a #24 jersey, Kodak showed love to the Los Angeles Lakers legend, celebrating his Mamba birthday in style. However, one major detail of his celebration was skipped by the masses: his custom-designed helicopter in Lakers colors.

After he revisited his birthday with new photos, fans started to call out Kodak for tributing Kobe with a custom helicopter, finding the move insensitive considering the basketball great passed away in a helicopter crash. While many are backing up the rapper on social media, pointing out that he obviously wasn’t trying to be disrespectful, Kodak explained the move in his own words during a recent radio interview.

Speaking with 99JAMZ in Miami, Kodak explained himself, saying, “It was January 26, 2020 and I was in Oklahoma. I was still in prison. I heard about his unfortunate demise and stuff like that and I was already saying, man, when I come home, I’mma come home on a helicopter. Then I heard how he passed and I was like, damn that’s crazy, maybe that’s a sign not to jump on the helicopter ’cause, you know, he’s KB and I’m KB. Kobe Bryant, Kodak Black, all that crazy stuff.”

Kodak’s helicopter tribute has caused him some obvious backlash but the rapper has remained tight-lipped, aside from this explanation. Watch the video below.

Mick Jenkins Relives A Suburban Nightmare In His Time-Looping ‘Truffles’ Video

The 1993 high-concept Bill Murrary comedy vehicle Groundhog Day continues to inspire a generation of artists, even thirty years after its release. While time-looping films had a big year — see: The excellent Palm Springs on Hulu and the horrific, Oscar-winning Two Distant Strangers on Netflix, among others — the originator’s influence resonates and gets a Disturbia– related twist in the video for Mick Jenkins’ new single “Truffles.”

The video, which also takes inspiration from Friday and Get Out sees Mick living out a suburban nightmare — and reliving it, over and over again, as he wakes up each day, heads outside to water the lawn, and is confronted with the contorted faces of his not-so-friendly neighbors. The eerie video is accompanied by Mick’s armor-piercing rhymes, delivered in his signature laid-back deadpan as he reflects on the negative perception of Black people in America — especially in unofficially segregated suburban areas like the one depicted in the video.

“Truffles” is the second single Jenkins has released this year after he collaborated with Kaytranada on the boastful “Designer Frames.” Whether that means the Chicago-bred rapper is gearing up for a larger release remains to be seen, but since it has been over a year since his EP Circus, and even longer since he released his critically hailed Pieces Of A Man, it’d be fair to say that he’s about due.

ASAP TyY Drops Timely Track “1990”

The Harlem-based collective is best known for pushing the envelope within hip-hop fashion, but that could never take away from their ceaseless expansion as a label and set of musicians. A$AP TyY’s new track, “1990,” is hypnotic, moody and, most of all, timely. Rapping about COVID is bound to become a cliché in countless rappers’ punchlines, but it’s hard to blame them as long as it’s well-executed.

Speaking about the song, the artist said “Like a lot of people, I struggled at times emotionally through the pandemic. And the thing that really saved me was leaning into music. I took it back to the basics — making songs and writing music every day… I knew when writing it that 2020 was going to be one of those years where we’re going to look back and be like, ‘man, we got through that’ and we did.” The thought of going a little stir-crazy over the past year is nothing we haven’t heard before, but it’s affirming to see how he goes about it in the same fashion we all should.

TyY’s last album, Project Rockstar, released back in 2019, and with this new single there is clearly new material in store. Are you looking forward to hearing more?

Employees Call Out Atlanta IKEA For Racially Insensitive Juneteenth Menu

Employees at an Atlanta-area IKEA store are calling out management for arranging a Juneteenth menu that they are calling “racially insensitive.” The menu reportedly included fried chicken and watermelon.

This is the first year that Juneteenth is observed as a federal holiday, being signed into action by President Joe Biden. As most corporations did, IKEA introduced a special menu for employees and customers to “honor and persevere Black Americans.” According to employees at the store, the original menu included mac and cheese, collard greens, and other foods. “People actually wanted to quit, people weren’t coming back to work,” they said about how upset staffers were about the racially insensitive choices.

A total of 33 people reportedly called off of work because of the menu, which caused the store’s manager to send an internal email apologizing. Still, they went forward and served fried chicken and watermelon on Saturday.

“You cannot say serving watermelon on Juneteenth is a soul food menu when you don’t even know the history, they used to feed slaves watermelon during the slave time,” said one employee.

The IKEA manager reportedly said that they did not work with their Black employees to create the menu.

In other unfortunate news surrounding Juneteenth, singer Jazmine Sullivan claims she had a racist encounter while shopping at Macy’s this weekend. Read more about that here.

Ari Lennox Shows Off Figure, Weave & Fan’s Shady Comment In Response To Look

The “Shea Butter Baby” singer has been sharing photos of her jaw-dropping looks, and the journey to her slimmed-down shape, for the past few months. On Tuesday, Lennox shared a video showing off her weave, long soft curls, and a figure accentuated by a green-pastel top and skirt set on, another notch in her evolution and clear grasp of hot girl summer.

Despite all the love in the comment section, there was also some hate. The following day after her initial video (below), Lennox shared a screenshot of a message from a DM from a male fan, that said, “went from shea butter baby to weave baby,” with a couple of teary-eyed emojis. Lennox only had a response of “lol.”

Whether the singer-songwriter was being sarcastic and felt offended by the claim or was truly amused at the criticism of her choice to wear a wig, fans took to her defense.

Jessica Andrews, a fashion editor for Bustle commented,” men really have the audacity. we love your hair however you choose to style it love.” Some fans even stressed that his statement was only a poor reflection on himself stating, “And that’s why he’s most definitely single.”

This is not the first time Lennox has received criticism for switching up her all-natural “shea butter baby” look by sporting wigs and other protective styles. Comments from trolls are one thing, but even Snoop Dogg shared his unsolicited two cents last year stating, “grow your own hair what happened to those days.”

While men feel the need to dictate what is appropriate for the singer, Lennox perfectly demonstrates the duality that is a reality for many Black women — one day she might be bare-faced rocking her fro with no edge control and the next in full glam makeup paired with a 30-inch weave and acrylic nails. If that’s what makes her happy, let her do her.

Soulja Boy Previews “She Make It Clap” Remix With French Montana

Soulja Boy has been ramping up the efforts ahead of the release of his forthcoming album Draco. The SODMG head honcho soared to the top of the Billboard charts with the release of his single, “She Make It Clap” which was largely due to its success on TikTok. The viral dance has continued to help the rapper do big numbers but it appears that Soulja is striving to keep the momentum up with a remix of the song.

It appears that Draco’s making that Bronx connection on the “She Make It Clap” remix. This week, French Montana revealed that he laid down a verse for the record and many fans have been quite excited over it. French makes plenty of current pop cultural references, many of them focused on the Kardashian-Jenner clan that he was once associated with. Within a minute, French Montana namedrops Travis Scott and Kylie, Kim Kardashian and Kanye’s divorce, and his ex-girlfriend Khloe Kardashian. He also cleverly makes a reference to rumors that James Harden dropped $100K for a date with Saweetie.

The upcoming remix to “She Make It Clap” will arrive in the near future. Soulja announced that his forthcoming album would be dropping on July 28th so keep your eyes peeled for that.

Tate McRae Is The Cool Babysitter In Her ‘Working’ Video With Khalid

After dancing since she was in elementary school, 17-year-old Canadian artist Tate McRae is seeing a successful launch of her singing career. “I always used to say ‘I’m a dancer who sings, not a singer who dances.’ That’s how it always went,” McRae told Uproxx in a recent interview. Now after dropping her debut EP Too Young To Be Sad, McRae has linked up with Khalid to flex some of her choreography skills in the “Working” video.

McRae’s “Working” visual opens with her feeling despondent at a high school graduation party before it gives a look at what she has in store for the rest of her summer vacation. She gets a job as a laid-back babysitter, watching the kids play video games and go for joyrides in the car, all while she can’t help but get a failing relationship out of her mind.

Ahead of the visual’s release, McRae told Uproxx that she doesn’t want to be pigeonholed into just one genre. “The crazy thing is that I’m still trying to find my sound,” she said. “I think there are a million different ways that you can play around, and a different million different artists [to work with] that will shoot you in different directions. But I can’t really define what I do [musically]. I think it changes every month… you can do so many things nowadays.”
