R.A. The Rugged Man Snaps On Lil Nas X “MONTERO” Remix

With Lil Nas X’s Satanically-charged single “MONTERO” currently sitting aloft as the biggest song in the world right now, it was only a matter of time before the remixes began pouring in. Tackling the melodic pop-banger is none other than elite lyricist R.A. The Rugged Man, whose pen game stands as sharp as his scathing social commentary.

Having a field-day with the mass hysteria that rose following the release of “MONTERO’s” visuals and blood-tinged shoes, The Rugged Man dives headlong into the concept as he lets fly rapid-fire bars. “It’s the Satanic panic, playing Dungeons and Dragons,” he spits, alluding to the controversy sparked by the tabletop role-playing game back in the nineteen seventies. “VHS porn form reproductive patterns / like it’s Led Zeppelin “Stairway to Heaven” backward.”

As the track continues, the depth of his message becomes clear. “What’s worse, Lil Nas X Satanic sneaker, or leaving kids at the church with the Catholic preacher?” he spits. “Pepe Le Pew animated cartoon cock loose, cancel Mr. Potato, he gave head to Dr. Seuss.” Clearly, The Rugged Man has more than a few thoughts on the current state of affairs, reveling in pointing out hypocrisy across all sides of the aisle. Check out his lyrically sharp and deftly delivered “Montero” remix now.

QUOTABLE LYRICS

What’s worse — Lil Nas X Satanic sneaker, or leaving kids at the church with the Catholic preacher?
Pepe Le Pew animated cartoon cock loose
Cancel Mr. Potato, he gave head to Dr. Seuss
That’s the slop I produce, triple fat, rock the goose
Shock Jock house party, guns out, shot the roof
Yes I heard the scream from the blasphemer loudly
Jay-Z rocking that Alastair Crowley

Shelley FKA DRAM Pushes Back Album In Honor Of His Mother’s Passing

Two weeks ago, Shelley (formerly known as DRAM) treated fans with the sultry new single “Cooking With Grease” and announced the release date for his long-awaited follow-up to Big Baby DRAM. Aptly titled Shelley FKA DRAM to signify the change to his stage name, Shelley’s sophomore was set to arrive next weekend on Friday, April 16. However, due to recently revealed personal reasons, Shelley has decided to push the project’s release back a little bit.

According to Shelley’s latest Instagram post, his mother sadly passed away last year, and she apparently played a major role in helping DRAM get the album ready for release. As a result, he has decided to delay the album’s release so that it drops on his late mother’s birthday.

“As some of you may know my mom passed away last year,” Shelley reveals in the Instagram post below. “Before she passed I played her my upcoming album and I begged her to promise she wouldn’t play it for anyone else.”

“She held her promise and took the music with her beyond this life,” he continues. “Her birthday is April 29th, so I’m pushing my album Shelley FKA DRAM’s release date to April 29th as not only my gift back to her, but my promise to play it for the world.”

In probably one of the most heartfelt reasons that an artist has decided to push an album back, Shelley’s forthcoming sophomore album Shelley FKA DRAM will arrive two weeks later than previously expected on Thursday, April 29, but at least the LVRN artist will be paying his respects to his mother in an incredible way.

MuWop Unveils King Von Collaboration “Don’t Move”

The rap game continues to mourn the death of King Von who was fatally shot in November. The budding rapper was emerging as a new face from the drill scene, even though he grew up alongside artists like Chief Keef and Lil Durk. Von was a new frontrunner leading a new generation of artists from Chicago as their sound became synonymous with Brooklyn and London.

This week, fellow O’Block native MuWop unveiled their long-awaited collaboration, “Don’t Move.” The sounds of drill remain the foundation of the song, even with bits of dancehall weaved into it. The song opens up with a sample of YellowMan’s “Nobody Move Nobody Get Shot” before sliding into the hard-hitting production with menacing bars. “I had to shoot the video without you it hurt me a lot but I still turned up for us Love You and you know I got you,” Wop wrote on Twitter.

Check the track from MuWop and King Von below.

Quotable Lyrics
We in VIP, thirty deep, bitch, get out my way
I got this Glock on me, the police come, my shorty take the case
He moved OT, but he not safe
We heard them sirens, so he gotta wait
See, he fucked up, now he gotta pay

Lil Tjay And Toosii Contemplate Heartbreak In The Grisly ‘Love Hurts’ Video

In the melancholy video for Lil Tjay’s new single, “Love Hurts,” Tjay and guest rapper Toosii contemplate heartbreak and discover a grisly scene in a mansion when an enemy’s assassination attempt goes awry and catches a bystander in the crossfire.

“Love Hurts” is the latest standout from Lil Tjay’s second major-label album, Destined 2 Win, released last Friday along with the video for its fourth single, “Run It Up” featuring Moneybagg Yo and Offset. Before that, Tjay drummed up anticipation for the project with the 6lack-featuring “Calling My Phone,” the drill-inspired “Headshot” featuring Fivio Foreign and Polo G, and “Born 2 Be Great,” released just a week before the album’s due date. Over the weekend, Tjay also shared the video for “Oh Well,” ensuring even more attention for the 21-track project. The album also features the previously released “None Of Your Love” as a bonus track.

Tjay’s latest album arrives after a year that saw his profile at its highest point thanks to his inclusion on the 2020 XXL Freshman cover and the release of his timely mixtape, State Of Emergency, building on the warm reception of his 2019 debut album, True 2 Myself.

Bobby Shmurda’s New Music Is Almost Here

Only a few days ago, Bobby Shmurda revealed his plans to release new music, signaling that his triumphant return would be arriving before the end of April. Now, the rapper has opted to double down, with a new Instagram post suggesting that he’s gearing up to stage a comeback sooner than later.

Shmurda used his caption to invoke a bit of nostalgia, evoking his classic single while teasing fans that “Ima be with y’all inna “HOT” Min.” Between that and the telling images of himself laying down vocals in the studio, it’s looking like we’ll be seeing what Shmurda has been cooking up in the imminent future.

As for what he’s got in the pipeline, it’s no secret that Shmurda has been active in the studio since his release from prison. A recent session found him connecting with Lil Durk and Rowdy Rebel; another found him linking up with producers Zaytoven and Mike WiLL Made-It in Atlanta. And though it doesn’t exactly point to collaboration, Shmurda’s latest announcement drew out quite the number of high-profile commenters — Busta Rhymes, Murda Beatz, Pooh Shiesty, and Popcaan among them.

Expect plenty of buzz when Bobby’s upcoming drop lands in full, in a “Hot” minute by his own admission. Stay tuned for further clarification on when exactly that might be, and sound off if you’re excited to see Bobby Shmurda back in the fold once again.

Lil Tjay & Toosii Get In Their Feelings In The “Love Hurts” Music Video

Following the massive success of his 6lack-assisted single “Calling My Phone” earlier this year, Lil Tjay has been giving his sophomore album Destined 2 Win everything that he’s got. During the album’s rollout, the South Bronx, New York rapper shared an album trailer featuring the heavyweight boxing legend Mike Tyson, and he also recently dropped a documentary that captured the creation process behind Destined 2 Win. Now, after reports that his sophomore album is on track to debut on the Billboard 200 with approximately 70,000 album-equivalent units, Lil Tjay is giving Destined 2 Win another boost by releasing the music video for “Love Hurts.”

The album cut “Love Hurts” features Toosii, who is also gearing up to drop a highly anticipated project. The two artists appear in the music video for “Love Hurts” as a Fatal Attraction-esque scenario plays out over the course of four minutes. Throughout the video, Tjay and Toosii wax poetic while lamenting over the pain of their past relationships, and by the end of the video, it is revealed that Tjay’s love interest, as well as a man in a parked car, have been killed.

As the lights from police sirens flash against Lil Tjay and Toosii’s faces, the video concludes with a screen card that reads “To be continued..” over an all-black background. In the video’s comment section, some fans of the two artists have theorized that the story will continue in a music video for a song from Toosii’s upcoming album Thank You For Believing. Whether or not that fan theory materializes in the coming weeks and months, check out Lil Tjay and Toosii’s music video for “Love Hurts” at the top.

Xzibits Fires Back At TMZ’s Reporting Of His “Napalm” Cannabis Line

Amid the heightened awareness surrounding anti-Asian racism in the wake of COVID-19, there have been many calls to address the underlying discrimination against people of Asian descent face in North America. In the midst of the controversy, Xzibit found himself receiving tons of backlash after he was accused of perpetrating an anti-Asian with the name of his cannabis line, Napalm.

X later addressed the situation and apologized for any sort of insensitivity that was perceived from the brand’s name. Additionally, he offered a more comprehensive explanation of the title and how it falls in line with the titles of his albums. “The word Napalm is definitely synonymous with war and being used as a weapon,” he explained. “If you know anything about me and my body of work, you know I got albums called Weapons Of Mass Destruction and Man Vs Machine.” He also released an album in 2021 called Napalm which is where the inspiration of the album came from.

TMZ’s report appeared to have got it wrong, though. It was reported that his products have been removed from the shelf of a dispensary after the accusations of anti-Asian racism. “As I look at this thing it breaks my heart to be dealing with these small groups of people attempting to paint me with a broad brush,” he explained, citing his work on Pimp My Ride made the term ‘pimp’ become synonymous to car restoration. Additionally, he said that the accusations of racism are a “reach” that contrasts and undermines his positive contributions to society, as well as his creative license.

“I’ve been getting calls all morning and the tmz story is misleading at best,” he added. “To be clear 1 dispensary took our products off of their ‘digital shelf’ which means they probably still have it on the dispensary shelf. Either way this one sided bullshit is not who I am or who I ever will be.”

The cannabis industry and fellow rappers chimed in to show their support for Xzibit as he combatted these accusations. B-Real, both a pivotal member of the cannabis community and groundbreaking MC, chimed in the comment section, writing, “We support you brother. We know you don’t play part in that sort of fuckery. But you will come out on top regardless.”

All Money In’s J. Stone also commented where he pointed out the double standard in the situation. “Ok so now we gotta take all slavery movies down or any movie where they called us N***as. Straight the fucc up. They wanna nit pick at the small shit but everything they do is racist towards us. Smh,” he wrote.
