YTB Fatt’s “On Zai” Deluxe EP Brings Out The Best In The Rapper

YTB Fatt has one of the most distinct voices in the game right now. It’s mumbly and off-kilter. It doesn’t sound on beat half the time. That said, there’s something compelling about the rapper. YTB Fatt sounds so different than his peers that his eccentricities become features and not bugs. The deluxe EP On Zai is a perfect example. At 6 songs and only 16 minutes, Fatt trimmed all the, well, fat that his longer releases have. “Free Bank” sees YTB Fatt trash talk over a twisty, snyth-heavy instrumental. It’s the second song on the album, though, that speaks more to the sound of On Zai.

“Shoot My Gun” has a transformative beat. Fatt waxes poetic on a series of grim topics, over a drum beat that provides little more than bass hits. It’s jarring upon first listen, but could very well be one of the most unique and interesting Fatt songs yet. The EP doesn’t suffer from inaccessibility, however. “Lonely” and “Hustler” are built around iconic R&B samples, which gives YTB Fatt’s flow a more appealing vibe than on the first two tracks. Lil Dann and Lil Durk represent the only other artists to provide features, and they both do their thing. Durk, in particularly, gets his time to shine on “Last Time” and practically steals the show in the process. On Zai is not going to change the minds of Fatt critics, but fans will love it.

Kid Cudi Drops Snippet And Release Date For New Single “Don’t Worry”

Kid Cudi is making good on his claims. The rapper turned the heads of fans in August when he revealed that he had already finished his next album. He recorded the album during the recovery process for his broken leg, and told Twitter followers that they should expect to hear it sometime in the fall. “I got my next album finished and I really cant wait for y’all to get a taste,” he wrote. Well, now that fall is rapidly approaching, Kid Cudi is gearing up for release. The rapper has confirmed that the lead single for the untitled album will drop on September 18.

The single in question is titled “Don’t Worry.” Kid Cudi uploaded a snippet to his Twitter on September 2nd, and it has a classic Man on the Moon sound. The production is spacey and minimal, while Cudi can be heard using his signature sing-song flow. There’s a propulsive quality to the song that is undeniable, especially when the chorus kicks in. Kid Cudi has a stellar single loaded, and if earlier versions of “Don’t Worry” are considered, then there’s a good chance that King Chip will also appear on the song. Chip is not listed on the Kid Cudi link. That said, the duo previewed the song on Instagram Live on August 28.

Kid Cudi’s Teased An Album Release In The Fall

Kid Cudi and King Chip, of course, have a legendary partnership dating back over a decade. Cudi has continued to work with Chip on standout songs like “Brothers” and “Just What I Am.” The latter is the most famous, due in large part to King Chip’s iconic opening verse. “Don’t Worry” has the potential to join this esteemed list. Kid Cudi has been on a creative roll the last couple years, and it’s in large part due to a shift in ambition. The rapper credited artists like Kendrick Lamar for expanding his musical horizons, and leading him down more adventurous paths with his last release, INSANO.

“I was really at a place where I had a goal,” the rapper told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe. “I was like, ‘Okay, I’ve done all these different types of albums, I’ve touched on all the different types of spaces creatively, sonically. What is the one thing that I haven’t accomplished?.” Kid Cudi’s upcoming release will aim to continue this momentum. If “Don’t Worry” is anything to go by, then fans are going to be well fed in the fall.

Glokk40Spaz Goes For The Throat On New Album “Da Real Oso”

Glokk40Spaz makes aggressive music. Nothing pretty here, just raw energy. It’s what fans respond to, and what the rapper is best at. Da Real Oso is a prime example of playing to one’s strengths on record. It’s an impressively one-dimensional album, in that the beats hit hard, the bars are bleak, and Spaz is giving it his all. Lyrical diversity and musical experimentation be damned. The opening song, “My Last Breath,” is the album in microcosm: fraught and hypnotic. It sounds both cold-blooded and emotional. The bass gets blown completely out on the bombastic second song, “POTHEAD & STONER.”

The cohesion in sound proves to be a double-edged sword. While Glokk40Spaz’s vision is unwavering in its focus and musical intent, it can get samey. “505” feels like a retread of “POTHEAD & STONER,” and it doesn’t help that the song comes right after the latter. “How Vampz Feel” and “You Not Da Only 1,” on the other hand, showcase what the rapper can do within his relatively limited framework. These songs are eccentric and bold, vocally matching their bombastic beats. “How Vampz Feel,” in particular, feels like a lost Playboi Carti song. Glokk40Spaz has a bright musical future ahead if he keeps refining his sound.

Drake Accused Of Stealing “No Face” Bars From Indie Artist Sixpathsss

Everybody wants a piece of Drake. The rapper has tried to reframe his narrative in recent months, but the image of him as a “colonizer” has persisted in the minds of some. The reason why? Well, because he has been accused of stealing flows from other rappers. There’s much debate about Drake snatching the hashtag flow from Big Sean. There’s also the XXXTentacion story in 2017, in which the late rapper stated that Drake using his flow from “Look at Me.” Now, it’s an independent artist named Sixpathsss making the accusations.

Sixpathsss took to Instagram to claim that Drake stole his bars for and spit them on the song “No Face.” The artist posted the Drake song next to a file of his own, and the appearances do seem to be uncanny. “I don’t get sleepy off no melatonin/My therapist put in a thirty-day notice,” both Drizzy and Sixpathsss rap. “‘Cause I keep on talkin’ ’bout beefin’ and business and money and women, there’s no diagnosis.” It’s a pretty specific rhyme pattern and cadence. This supports the notion that Drake took some very obvious inspiration from a lesser-known rapper. The opinion among fans, though, has been mixed.

Drake Has Been Accused Of Stealing Flows For Years

Some fans were more than happy to pile on Drake for seemingly bolstering his culture vulture rep. The comment section on Instagram was flooded with remarks about Drake doing this his entire career. It’s worth noting, however, that Sixpathsss is not burgeoning star. He does not have a large following, and therefore stands to benefit greatly from accusing Drake of lyrical theft. It spurns outlets like this to start talking about him. “Man has 3000 followers,” one skeptical user wrote. “But Drake knows about him and steals his bars.”

The other element that makes the theft accusations fishy is the fact that Sixpathsss has done this sort of thing. He previously accused Trippie Redd of stealing bars, though nothing came of it from a cultural or legal standpoint. Past a certain point, it’s going to look like the rapper who cried wolf. It’s likely the Drake story will play out the same exact way. There’s much more focus on the absence of Playboi Carti on “No Face” than the off chance that Drake bit another rapper’s bars.

A Judge Has Reportedly Denied Pras Michel’s Request For A New Money Laundering Trial

In April, Pras (real name Prakazrel Michel) was found guilty of 10 counts related to his money laundering case (which included conspiracy to defraud the U.S., witness tampering and acting as an unregistered agent of a foreign government). The Fugees member accused of making a false statements and records after surrounding contributions to Barack Obama’s 2012 re-election campaign (allegedly on behalf of Malaysian businessman Jho Low.)

Despite the conviction, Pras hasn’t given up hope. Given that he could face up to 20 years in prison, the producer held out hope for a legal Hail Mary. Pras supposedly filed a motion to have a new trial, stating inadequate representation. However, according HipHopDX, the judge has denied Pras’ request.

On August 30, Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly requested the motion (viewable here) citing insufficient prejudice.

“Because [Pras] Michel has not shown sufficient prejudice resulting from the defense team’s use of the AI program (and the subsequent inclusion of Puff Daddy lyrics),” read the response. “The Court concludes that Michel has not demonstrated ineffective assistance of counsel on this basis.”

In Pras’ paperwork, he argued that his former attorney’s use of generative AI during closing statements or as the paperwork referred to as “the single most important portion” of his defense failed to wrap up their case neatly.

According to reports, Pras’ former defensive attorney David Kenner has pled guilty to leaking evidence of the case to the media.

YSL Co-Founder Mondo Clowns YSL Woody For Claiming He’s “Outside”

YSL Woody has achieved infamy. The YSL member was not particularly well-known prior to the group’s RICO charge, but he’s become the star witness in the subsequent trial. And despite becoming the best known “rat” in the rap since Takeshi 6ix9ine, YSL Woody has continued to flex online. The rapper heard that YSL co-founder YSL Mondo had some criticisms for him during a recent interview. In response, he took to Instagram Live and proved he was very much “outside.” It didn’t convince his YSL peer.

“I be outside like the motherf*ckin’ sun,” YSL Woody tells his viewers. He proceeds to hop in a car and show off a duffle bag full of cash. “Y’all know how I’m coming,” he continues. “Pull up and get it!” YSL Woody then makes direct reference to the YSL Mondo interview. “Y’all n**gas stop playing,” he stated. “Keep me out these interviews.” Woody doesn’t mentioned Mondo by name, but it’s very clear that he has the co-founder in mind. So clear, in fact that Mondo responded to the Woody flex video with an IG Live of his own.

YSL Mondo Claims Woody Will Never Be Respected

To put it simply, YSL Mondo was no impressed. “You ain’t nowhere but in your surrounding area,” he camly stated. “Ain’t nowhere where I’m at. You just got the internet, boogie woogie a*s, folks who ain’t from Atlanta type sh*t from around the way.” YSL took it a step further, and undermined YSL Woody for showcasing money in his car. “You ride around with every dime that you own on you,” Mondo explained. “That ain’t no money my brother, go get you a bank account, my boy.”

YSL Woody’s attempts to flex were further undone by Mondo’s observations. The YSL co-founder said people in the know don’t respect Woody, regardless of how much cash he throws around. “Real n**gas ain’t respecting that boogie woogie a*s sh*t,” he asserted. “Don’t let these small town street punks on the internet juice you up and make you think you a real n**ga… You can never be no more.” Woody may have the fame, but Mondo’s commentary is pretty damning.

Future Drops “Lil Demon” Snippet Ahead Of New Album “Mixtape Pluto”

Future warned us. The rapper has been teasing Mixtape Pluto for months, but things kicked into high gear on September 2. Not only did Future confirm that the album was dropping soon, but he dropped a snippet to build up anticipation. Mixtape Pluto is one of the most anticipated releases of the year, and the snippet that the rapper dropped, “Lil Demon,” somehow boosted anticipation. It’s everything fans would want from a back-to-basics Future.

The rapper dropped the snippet on Instagram, along with a brief glimpse of the accompanying music video. “Lil Demon” immediately sets apart from the melodic, R&B-leaning sound of Future’s last album with Metro Boomin. It’s gnarly, hard-hitting, and hypnotic. It sounds like DS2-era Pluto beamed in to the now, which is exactly what fans have been wanting. The beat is propulsive and bass-heavy. Future’s bars are menacing largely because he delivers them with his trademark nonchalance. The music video evokes “Rotational,” which is something Pluto shot back in 2015 but released for the album’s tenth anniversary. It has a slicker aesthetic and bigger budget, of course, but it there’s definitely a retro feel.

Future’s Latest Teaser Is A Throwback To DS2

Southside confirmed that he was working on Mixtape Pluto back in May. The producer also played a pivotal role in the creation of DS2, and recounted its groundbreaking sound to Complex in 2020. “We were nervous because it was a new sound and a new swag,” he explained. “We created a sound that we couldn’t run from. It was undeniable. It was timeless music.” Future also understands the importance of this mid-2010s, “Mixtape Pluto” era on his overall legacy.

The rapper dropped a commentary for each of the tracks on DS2, and the aforementioned “Rotational” video in July. He’s also spent the last few years exploring different sounds. Well, relatively. I Never Liked You was bolstered by a pair of Drake-assisted singles. His Metro Boomin collabs, meanwhile, were kind of overshadowed by the Drake beef they kickstarted. Travis Scott recently went to the 10th anniversary well with Days Before Rodeo, and it worked like a charm. Future is attempting to do the doing the same thing, while using it push something new. If “Lil Demon” is any indication, we’re about to get another classic.

Future Confirms Anticipated “Mixtape Pluto” Album Is Dropping Soon

Future is keeping the fans fed. The rapper has already dropped two acclaimed joint albums with Metro Boomin in 2024, but he’s back for more. He confirmed that a new solo album will be dropping soon, and it will bear the title Mixtape Pluto. The title may be a little confusing on the surface, but “Mixtape Pluto” is the Future equivalent of the “old Kanye.” Fans of the rapper’s legendary mid-2010’s run want to hear him return to that sound, and it sounds like that’s exactly what he’s going to do.

Future confirmed the existence of the album on September 2. The rapper dropped teaser artwork for Mixtape Pluto on social media with pre-order links on all major streaming platforms. He also provided the caption “bout to drop…” to further build up hype. Fans have heard about the existence of Mixtape Pluto since May, when Southside was asked to dish on recent collabs. The producer told XXL that he’d been in the studio with Future, and the songs they were coming up with were going to blow fans away.

Future Has Teased The Album For Months

“I’m working on Mixtape Pluto with Future right now,” Southside confirmed. “I’ve been working a lot with Roddy Ricch, too. It’s a new sound, like a whole new vibe. I’m ready to get these albums out… get this music out and start doing shows.” Future seemingly backed up the producer’s claims when he tweeted out “I can’t sleep until it’s complete #MIXTAPEPLUTO.” Future has been in a bit of a retrospective mode lately. Especially when considering the recent anniversary of his most celebrated album: Dirty Sprite 2.

DS2 represents arguably the pinnacle of “Mixtape Pluto” as a concept. So it makes complete sense that the rapper would want to give fans more. It would also mark a clean break away from the Metro Boomin collab albums that dominated the first half of 2024. Not only through quality, but through its kicking off of the Drake vs. Kendrick battle. Future played a pivotal role, despite not being looked at as a main part of the beef. Sounds like he’s ready to move on.

Hometown Hero GloRilla Was Honored With Key To The City Of Memphis

With breakout songs such as “Wanna Be,” “TGIF,” and “F.N.F,” GloRilla has quickly become a national force in hip-hop. Although her global fan base continues to blossom, no one has more admiration for GloRilla than her hometown, Memphis, Tennessee.

Yesterday (September 1), local officials commemorated GloRilla’s success by awarding her the key to the city. During Memphis’ 901 Day celebration, Mayor Paul Young presented GloRilla with the prestigious honor while surrounded by friends and family. Over on Instagram (viewable here), GloRilla gushed about the touching distinction.

“Memphis made me Frayser raised me,” she wrote. “I got da key to my cityyyyy ahhhhh 🥳🥳🥳🥳 Happy 901 day MEMPHIS!!!!!!”

Samuel Finley

GloRilla has been extremely vocal about her upbringing in Frayser, Memphis’ north side. As part of a chat with Complex, GloRilla implied that her love for Memphis might have played a role in her decision to sign with Yo Gotti’s CMG The Label.

“You know, it just felt right,” she says. “Gotti is a hometown hero because he reached back and signed a lot of artists from Memphis, myself included. We’ve been getting the notoriety, because Memphis is known for music too.”

Unlike when Drake was given the same honor in June 2023, natives were in full support of GloRilla’s recognition.
