ShittyBoyz Continue To Drop Eccentric Bars On “3 Man Weave” Album

ShittyBoyz are not for everyone. The name kind of says it all. Some listeners are going to put off, some are going to fully buy into the absurdity of the trio and love the music. One thing’s for certain, the trio is never going to change. 3 Man Weave is more of the same wavy, eccentric hip hop that ShittyBoyz have built their name on. It’s a little long, and can be repetitive, but the standout cuts are so catchy that they will stick in their head whether you want them to or not. This is evident from the hard-hitting opener, “07 LeBron.”

The artwork and the title of the opener may lead you to think that 3 Man Weave is some focused concept album about the basketball court. It’s not. ShittyBoyz quickly stray from this theme, and proceed to delve into any topic they please. It mostly works. “Polynesian” has a chilled out beat that brings out the best in terms of the trio’s flows. “Big Dawgs” takes on more of a West Coast sound, with an aggressive Tommy G feature to boot. “Brand New” and “Live from the Lab” are the clear standouts here, though. They use lush, 80s samples as the foundation for aggressive ShittyBoyz bars, and the combination never fails. It’d be nice to hear the trio on a whole project with that production. As it stands, though, 3 Man Weave is an entertaining showcase for ShittyBoyz to refine their formula.

Chester Bennington’s Son Bashes Mike Shinoda Over Linkin Park Reunion

Linkin Park is one of the most beloved rock/rap groups of all time. They blended the two genres pretty seamlessly, and landed an iconic collab album with JAY-Z. The death of frontman Chester Bennington in 2017 put an end to the group as we know it. Recently, however, co-founder Mike Shinoda has decided to relaunch Linkin Park with a brand new lead singer: Emily Armstrong. The decision has not gone over well with fans. Or Chester Bennington’s son, Jamie, for that matter.

Jamie Bennington took to Instagram on September 9 to make it clear that he didn’t co-sign the new version of Linkin Park. There was a multitude of reasons. For one, he does not condone Armstrong’s Scientology beliefs, or her support of convicted rapist Danny Masterson. For another, he feels that Mike Shinoda is cheapening the legacy that he built alongside Chester Bennington. He pointed to Shinoda’s lack of vetting with regards to Armstrong’s character. “You refuse to acknowledge the impact of hiring someone like Emily,” Bennington wrote. “Without so much as a clarifying statement on the variety of victims that make up your core fan base.”

Jamie Bennington Lamented Linkin Park’s Legacy

Jamie Bennington also feels that Linkin Park’s credibility will be damaged by Shinoda’s decision to revive the band. His criticisms got more stinging as the post went on. He accused Shinoda of erasing his dad’s legacy “in real time,” and and betraying day one Linkin Park fans in the process. Bennington also claimed hypocrisy on the part of the band’s co-founder. He believed Mike Shinoda was not taking the care with the fans that his father did. “You promised us that was your intention,” Bennington asserted. “Now you’re just senile and tone deaf.”

Shinoda has said his peace on the decision to continue Linkin Park without Chester Bennington. He told Billboard that it was a difficult decision, but one he ultimately stood by. “It’ll be a question of, ‘How does it land with people?,’” he noted. “And I don’t know how it will. But I know that, when I hear it, I love it.” It’s been a bumpy start so far. It’ll be interesting to see whether Linkin Park can weather controversy of if this will be prove to be an unsuccessful experiment.

Babyface Ray And Veeze Sound Slick As Ever On “Wavy Navy University”

Babyface Ray has a unique delivery. It’s simultaneously intense and laid back. He’s able to communicate urgency without sounding frazzled, and his best songs are the ones that explore this tension. Babyface Ray has dropped quite a few singles ahead of his upcoming album, The Kid That Did. His latest release, though, “Wavy Navy University,” might just be his best yet. The rapper manages to find a tempo and a beat that perfectly suits his delivery. It helps that Veeze shows up and keeps the momentum going on the song’s back end. Babyface Ray doesn’t waste any time getting started on “Wavy Navy University.”

The first words he says are “let’s go,” and he means it. The rapper drops bars about everything under the sun, from Benzes and spaceships to riches and different languages. It sounds great, even if it’s not very focused. “Yeah, mafia tied, we ain’t blowin’ up, bad b**ches flyin’ in,” Babyface Ray raps. “I was doin’ hundred percent, class in session, lil’ baby, sign in.” Veeze puts a slight variation on Ray’s flow, but he does it so seamlessly that it does feel like a cohesive collaboration. If we’re being real, though, the real star of “Wavy Navy University” is the beat. It feels aquatic and malleable, while still having enough of a groove to anchor Ray’s bars. A solid showcase all around.
