USA Synchronized Swimming Moonwalked Upside Down Under Water During A Michael Jackson Routine

Every four years at the Olympics, the world gets invested in a number of sports that rarely are part of the public consciousness in non-Olympic years. Whether that’s the marquee Olympic events like track, swimming, or gymnastics, it also applies to niche sports that can become fan favorites for a brief week in the spotlight (see: handball).

There are then the sports that remain fairly niche, even within the Olympic schedule, but even those that don’t get shown on TV can get their shine if they produce a viral moment. This week, we got an example of that with synchronized swimming, when the USA artistic swimming team broke out an under water moonwalk that had the internet buzzing during a routine set to Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal”.

Synchronized swimming is always wild to me, but hitting an upside down, under water moonwalk is truly incredible — and insanely cool. Team USA finished fourth after the technical routine, scoring a 282.7567 (I have no idea how that score is tabulated or why it goes into the ten thousandths of a point) that put them two points behind Japan, with Spain five points in front and China a hilarious 21 points clear of them for first. The free routine will be today, and perhaps they can climb into a medal position with that, but even if not, they’ve already garnered a whole lot of buzz and rightful praise from their Michael Jackson routine.

Summrs Delivers The Final Precursing EP Before Album With “NIGHTFALL”

Lafayette, Louisiana’s melodic rap specialist Summrs is once again not ready to dive head first into his new album. Some hope was shown after the release of his most recent single “Marble Floors” and a post surrounding it on his Instagram. Also contributing to that, was when the 24-year-old put out his foreshadowing EP, B4DARAVEN. That title alone would have anyone believing that TALE OF DA RAVEN would be next to follow after both of those releases. However, that is not the case, as Summrs is back with one more precursing EP called NIGHTFALL. This new set of songs is one track shorter than B4DARAVEN, sitting at six in total. On this extended play, the new fan-favorite “Marble Floors” serves as the lead single.

However, out of all of the other drops over the last few months, that is the only one that makes the cut. It will be interesting to see what records make TALE OF DA RAVEN. Hopefully, none of the material on these EPs weave their way into collection, as that would obviously kill the hype factor going into the ensuing first listen. Speaking of which, Summrs fans will be able to spin the album on September 20, according to Genius. That date seems pretty concrete considering all of the music we have gotten from him. It seems that the MC’s plan with these tapes is to give his listeners an idea of what the LP will sound like. Based on what we have heard, Summrs will most likely include his signature pluggnb style, along with some rage and psychedelic soundscapes, too. NIGHTFALL is giving off that vibe to us especially on the “Nightfall Outro”. However, we will just have to wait and see, but for now, stream NIGHTFALL with the links below.

Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” Just Got Its First Awards Nomination

One of the funniest lines in the whole Kendrick Lamar and Drake beef comes on The Boy’s “Family Matters”: “Kendrick just opened his mouth, someone go hand him a Grammy right now.” Not only is it a comically dismissive assessment making fun of K.Dot glazers in the white-dominated industry, but it’s also pretty accurate at Drizzy’s expense. Because it seems like the most fun, mocking, disparaging, and lightly disrespectful track in the whole battle, “Not Like Us,” is not just a hit with fans and critics, but with awards shows. Moreover, the Mustard-produced banger has just received its first award nomination: Song of the Year at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards.

While it’s no golden gramophone, it’s still a pretty big and visible award that speaks to what Drake meant to say about Kendrick Lamar. Disses aside, the song and music video is undeniably worthy of high praise from pretty much every corner under the sun. But there are a lot of fans out there that find this nomination (and presumably more to come) pretty odd. On one hand, it’s a great song and visual treatment, but on the other, do we really want big corporations and the larger music industry to chip into a rap beef that should really just be a one-on-one cultural affair?

Kendrick Lamar Pops Out In MTV VMAs Nominations

OVO Stans will use this and other “Not Like Us” nominations to call Drake a prophet and clown Kendrick Lamar even further, whereas pgLang fans will rejoice in how embarrassing of a look this is for Aubrey Graham in the industry. But at the end of the day, a huge chunk of both fanbases couldn’t care less about awards, and would rather have ceremonies ignore their material instead of trying to pick a side, remove their context, or give praise to both.

We’ll see how this discourse evolves, and whether or not Kendrick Lamar or Drake actually show up to the event. We don’t have a clear idea of what all the nominations for this year’s VMAs look like, so keep an eye out for that in the coming days. In any case, the ceremony goes down on September 10. Will the Compton lyricist pop out, is this just an obligatory nomination, or does he really not care at all as long as the culture knows his victory?

Keefe D Says He Spent Years Trying To Collect $1M From Diddy For Alleged Role In Tupac Killing

Screenshot 2024 08 06 at 10.35.56 AM

The filmmaker who directed the Murder Rap documentary released a 2008 audio clip of reputed gang member and Tupac murder suspect Duane “Keefe D” Davis confessing to his involvement in Shakur’s 1996 killing, talking about his difficulty getting a $1 million payment from Diddy in exchange for carrying out the hit.

Davis claims he told Eric “Von Zip” Martin to collect the money in the days following the shooting, but this was unsuccessful.

“What’s up with the cash?” Keefe D recalled asking Zip over a month after the killing. “[Zip said], ‘[Diddy] ain’t give it to me yet.’ We need money, motherf*cker. They took our guns, all that sh*t. We need some money. They must got millions.”

Within the past year, Diddy has become one of the main figures of interest in the Tupac killing and the East Coast vs. West Coast beef of the 90s seems to be the motive of the shooting deaths of both the Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac Shakur. People have speculated on the Bay Boy mogul’s involvement in both murders, but there has been no substantial evidence until the arrest of Davis.

Davis was set to be released on a $750K secured bond as he awaits trial, however, a Nevada judge denied his attempt at making bond. With controversial Cali figure Wack 100 behind the attempt to post bond, the judge found the financial sourcing to be suspicious and denied Davis’ release.

“We are disappointed with the court’s decision to deny bail to Mr. Davis, especially considering the thorough vetting by Konvict Bail Bonds of the funding source conducted before the source hearing,” said Davis’ attorney Carl Arnold. “We firmly believe there is a lack of substantive proof that Mr. Davis intended to profit from his alleged connections to the case.”

Trump Calls Ye ‘Very Complicated’ with a ‘Good Heart’

Kanye West Meets Trump WH

Donald Trump is offering a new opinion on Kanye West. During his stream with Adin Ross, Trump called Ye “very complicated.”

“He’s a really nice guy, but he can get himself into trouble and get some other people, but you know,” Trump said. “He’s got a good heart, he does. But he’s complicated.”

Just last month, former President Donald Trump was close to making Kanye West a de facto Secretary of Religion. During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, former Trump staffer Alyssa Farah Griffin revealed Trump wanted Ye to perform a church service on the White House lawn to unite the country.

“One day, he [Trump] wanted to have Kanye West come and doa church service on the White House lawn to unify the country. I can think of a few things less unifying than that.

“We were like, ‘not the time or place, sir.’”

You can hear the story below.

Pitbull Has Purchased The Naming Rights To FIU Football’s Stadium

Florida International University’s football program plays in a 20,000 seat stadium in Miami. Recently, the university has been on the lookout for a new naming rights sponsor for the building — it is presently known as FIU Stadium after previously being known as Riccardo Silva Stadium from 2017-22, named after the Miami FC owner who wrote a check to take care of renovations. College football is, truly, an insane sport.

Anyway, according to Pete Thamel of ESPN, the stadium has a new sponsor, and once again, an individual’s name will be on it. This time, that person is Pitbull, the artist and Miami native who is affectionately known as Mr. 305. The stadium will be known going forward as Pitbull Stadium.

Thamel went on to report what both sides will get out of this deal, and the stipulations are pretty incredible.

As part of the deal, according to the documents, Pitbull will create an anthem for FIU, post about the school on social media 12 times a year and appear at one athletics fundraising event per year throughout the term of the agreement.

Pitbull will get use of the stadium 10 days per year throughout the term of the deal and the vodka company he owns will be the preferred brand distributed in the stadium. There’s also perks like two reserved suites for all home football games.

To return to something I said earlier: College football really is an insane sport. FIU football, which has only been a program since 2002, is coming off of back-to-back 4-8 campaigns, and has not made it to a bowl game since 2019. They’re currently coached by Miami native Mike McIntyre, who has been at the helm since 2022 and is well-known for his stints as the head football coach at San Jose State and Colorado. It is unclear if Pitbull has ever gone to an FIU game, but I hope he does sooner rather than later.

Usher Brings The Party To France In The First Trailer For His ‘Rendezvous In Paris’ Concert Film

As we learned last week, Usher has a new concert film, Usher: Rendezvous In Paris, on the way. Now, we have our first look at it via a new trailer, which combines concert footage with clips of Usher dramatically looking over and walking through Paris.

Usher previously said in a statement, “Paris was a special experience for me as an entertainer and for my fans. I hope those who weren’t able to make it in person get to experience how special it was. As for those of you who were, I hope you experience the show and see what it takes to get there through a different lens.”

According to a press release, the movie “incorporates the essence of his landmark cultural phenomenon Vegas residencies into a seductive French touch confession” and features the songs “Yeah!,” “My Boo,” “Love In This Club,” and others “performed with never-before-seen costumes and state-of-the-art lighting and special effects.” The movie also promises to give “audiences a glimpse inside life beyond the stage — creating a global moment that moviegoers won’t want to miss.”

The film is set for a limited run from September 12 to 15, playing in 2,000 theaters worldwide. Screening details and ticketing information is available on the movie’s website.

Sugarhill Ddot Presents His Debut Album “2 Sides Of The Story”

With drill music being a prominent subgenre in all corners of the geographic market, there seems to be a new artist looking to waves. One of those talents hails from New York City and his name is Sugarhill Ddot. He’s been dropping some singles and EPs for the last two years or so, but he had yet to drop an album or mixtape in that frame. Well, Sugarhill Ddot is fulfilling the former item on his checklist with 2 Sides of the Story. On the teenager‘s debut, he had some things he wanted set straight going forward for the rest of his career.

In a press release, Ddot says, “2 Sides Of The Story shows my growth as an artist. I’m from Sugarhill but there’s more to me than just that. “I spent the last year working on this debut album [and] I want people to see the two sides of me. I can do street records but also smooth melodic records”. He certainly delivers on that front throughout the healthy 18-song set. Ddot sometimes sounds like some of his guests, particularly the posthumously featured PnB Rock, especially on the more lowkey cuts. However, this is something that a lot of artists work through early on, so it isn’t too much of a concern. Overall, there are some solid drill bops and some big-ticket names both on the mic and behind the board. Give 2 Sides Of The Story a spin with the links below.
