NBA and Amazon Music Partner for NBA Con Showcasing Hoops and Music in Vegas

Amazon Music has exciting news for music and basketball fans as they announced their participation in the inaugural NBA Con event, which takes place from July 7-9 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas. The three-day celebration of hoops culture will feature live performances from renowned artists such as 2 Chainz, BLXST, AJR, Eslabon Armado, Armani White, and DJ E Rock.

Amazon Music will also power the NBA Con Store, offering exclusive merchandise representing all 30 NBA teams and official NBA Con gear. NBA Con aims to unite fashion, music, food, art, and technology in a grand showcase featuring legendary and current NBA stars.

“More than any other sport, basketball has always gone hand-in-hand with music. From hyping up players before the game to soundtracking highlight reels, music has always been the fuel for athletes’ ambitions,” said Sean McMullan, director of artist product and services for Amazon Music. “The inaugural NBA Con will bring fans, artists, and athletes together under one roof to celebrate all facets of hoops culture, and Amazon Music has worked hard with the NBA to curate showstopping performances and exclusive merchandise for attendees.”

“The first-ever NBA Con is all about bringing the league, its players and fans together through shared interests,” said Joey Graziano, Senior Vice President of Global Event Strategy and Development, NBA. “Fashion and music are essential to the culture of the league, and we are thrilled to work with Amazon Music to help us bring the best of both to NBA Con.” 

Guests can anticipate appearances from basketball luminaries like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Mike Conley, Tyrese Haliburton, CJ McCollum, Trae Young, Victor Wembanyama, and Scoot Henderson. The event will coincide with the NBA 2K24 Summer League, where young talents will take the floor in NBA uniforms for the first time.

With a footprint, twice the size of the NBA All-Star Weekend event, NBA Con promises an unforgettable experience for fans, thanks to a partnership between the NBA and Emerald, a leading producer of trade shows and conferences. Tickets are available at NBACon.com.

Last night marked the sensational kickoff of Alicia Keys’ highly anticipated KEYS TO THE SUMMER TOUR in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. In a groundbreaking move, the 15-time GRAMMY® Award-winning artist performed in a unique 360-degree “in the round” production setup, providing fans with an unprecedented and immersive concert experience. Working closely with Creative Director Diane Martel and production designer Chiara Stephenson, known for their work with renowned artists, Keys crafted a visually stunning concept and stage design for the tour.

In a show of technological innovation, Keys has partnered with Shazam to offer her devoted “AK Fam” exclusive content throughout her global tour. By scanning a QR code, fans attending her concerts worldwide can access curated exclusives, including backstage videos, set lists, tour photos, watch faces, wallpapers, and more. Curren$y and Harry Fraud’s new album is produced in its entirety by Harry Fraud and features Benny The Butcher, Larry June, Jim Jones, Rome Streetz & G.T.

Track of the Week: J.R.Clark’s “The Only Way Up”

J.R.Clark returns with his most heartfelt song to date. Hailing from Virginia Beach, the rising star continues to spend his waking moments in the studio perfecting his craft, and he’s not stopping until he gets to the top.

Starting out as studio engineer before finding his own voice on the microphone, J.R.Clark creates from a vulnerable place, with hopes to impact the rap game in a positive way. Now, he returns to release his new single and visual for “The Only Way Up.” The song features a blend of sampled melodies, reverb snares, room toms, and heavy 808’s, as he rhymes about being consistent as a rapper, taking time to understand the music industry, and making wise financial decisions.

Speaking on the music video, J.R.Clark states it was “rooted in simplicity. I wanted this video to look and feel gritty by encompassing the vintage tape aesthetic. This video was filmed in my Virginia Beach home recording studio to show my vocal chain, which consists of a Manley Reference C tube microphone, BAE Audio 1073 preamp, Tube Tech CL1B compressor, Prism Sound audio interface, and having close friends present for feedback and good energy.”

He even compares the vibe of the visual similar to Young M.A’s “Walk” home music video, proving that less is more.

Fans can expect J.R. Clark’s upcoming ninth studio album releasing next year, titled All Business, No LUV. He states, “To all artists, do not let social media dictate your creativity, be original with your content and sound, don’t chase algorithms, don’t mimic or follow trends; more importantly, do your research before you spend your money in this music business.”

Lil Uzi Vert Finally Releases “Pink Tape” In All Of Its Glory

After much anticipation and many teasers, Lil Uzi Vert has arrived with his new album, Pink Tape. In the last few months, they and the Generation Now team have hinted at the project’s release, although both parties kept most details surrounding the album under wraps. Finally, the rapper came through with their latest body of work with 26 songs in total. It’s a mesmerizing body of work that continues to carve out Lil Uzi Vert’s colorful and vibrant space in hip-hop.

The rapper’s latest body of work includes some familiar collaborators. Travis Scott appears on “Aye,” which he previewed at a concert on Thursday night (June 29). Meanwhile, Nicki Minaj comes through with another stand-out verse on “Endless Fashion,” extending their track record together. Additionally, the project includes appearances from Don Toliver, Baby Metal, and Bring Me The Horizon. Uzi brings together an eclectic group of collaborators to bring his vision to life, although some might be disappointed that Playboi Carti isn’t anywhere to be seen.

Pink Tape Arrives

It’s been a busy rollout for Lil Uzi Vert’s Pink Tape. The rapper began the campaign for the album with the release of their viral single, “Just Wanna Rock,” – a song that they performed at the Grammys and most recently, at the 2023 BET Awards, where he also debuted a new song from Pink Tape. However, “Just Wanna Rock” became a vibrant anthem that undoubtedly helped popularize the growing trend of Jersey Club production in hip-hop these days. It also spurred a conversation on whether it surpassed Meek Mill’s “Dreams & Nightmares” as the official anthem of Philadelphia. However, Uzi denies that that’s the case.

Pink Tape serves as the official follow-up to 2020’s Eternal Atake, as well as his deluxe edition, Lil Uzi Vert Vs. The World 2. Since then, they continued to keep a stream of music on the way, including his collaborative effort with Future, Pluto X Baby Pluto, and Red & White EP. Uzi’s also been coming through with several stand-out guest verses on records with Veeze, Yeat, Lil Baby, and even Drake, although that particular collaboration has yet to surface.
