Skillibeng Recruits Fivio Foreign & French Montana For “Whap Whap” Remix

Jamaican rap/dancehall trap artist Skillibeng has a hit on his hands with “Whap Whap” (released back in March), and this New Music Friday he’s returned with a remix featuring Fivio Foreign and French Montana via EastSyde Records/RCA Records.

The original single took the internet by storm, blowing up on TikTok and receiving love from names like Drake, Nicki Minaj, and Kodak Black, so there’s no telling what the latest edition has the potential to do.

“Yeah, and I heard about the list (Yeah) / It’s money on my head but I ain’t worried ’bout the shit, ha / Yeah, you better hurry up and hit (Baow) / Keep a shooter when I’m shoppin’, he don’t worry ’bout no drip,” the B.I.B.L.E. artist spits on his verse, while Montana drops off a reference to Chris Rock and Will Smith’s infamous Oscars incident.

Skillibeng is due to drop off new music this summer, following his Mr. Universe EP. Stream the rapper’s latest single on Spotify, Apple Music, or Soundcloud below, and tap back in with HNHH later for more hip-hop updates.

Quotable Lyrics:

Yeah, and I heard about the list (Yeah)
It’s money on my head but I ain’t worried ’bout the shit, ha
Yeah, you better hurry up and hit (Baow)
Keep a shooter when I’m shoppin’, he don’t worry ’bout no drip

Cardi B Sides With Joe Budden Over NY Strip Club Comments

Joe Budden, no stranger to controversy, is back under the public eye, but this time due to his comments regarding discrimination in New York strip clubs. After receiving backlash from a couple of rappers in particular, Cardi B is backing Budden, claiming that she’s experienced the exact type of discrimination he was referencing in his initial post on the topic.

In an Instagram story posted on June 2, Joe Budden tried to shed light on the lack of black women being hired in Big Apple strip clubs. The New York native, who has never shied away from sharing his opinion, is a frequent visitor to such establishments.

“NY strip clubs, not only are you not hiring Black women, but you’re purposely hiring the SAME exact girl.. Your promoter having a type is gonna lose y’all money this Summer. This is disgusting (not the girls, the optics),” Budden wrote via Instagram.

The former Slaughterhouse rapper later followed up on Twitter, adding, “I think I’m gonna start a war with NY strip clubs but only because I care.”

After receiving responses from rappers such as Ugly God and Waka Flocka, Budden has now gained support from artist Cardi B, who noted that she herself has been subject to such discrimination in her former career as a stripper.

“Funny thing [you] say that because when I was a dancer certain clubs wouldn’t let me work on ‘Latin Nights’ cause apparently I didn’t look Spanish enough wit my braids! I even spoke about strip club and colorism b4,” the rapper tweeted.

The “Bodak Yellow” artist has openly discussed her career as a stripper. In a 2016 interview with VladTV, the 29-year-old said that she started stripping as a means to escape domestic violence. In an interview a year later also with VladTV, the rapper yet again spoke up about her time working the pole, this time shedding light on the increase of “light-skin” girls being hired over “darker-skinned” girls– pointing to Budden’s point, incidentally.

Cardi recently made a return to the pole for her husband Offset in Cabo. Readers can check that out here.

Brevin Kim: The ‘See You Next Year’ Interview

Fill in the blanks: Brevin Kim is most likely to______?
Cal: Revolutionize. We’re blending a lot of genres and just making something that I feel not a lot of other people are making.  We’re the most likely to pioneer a new sound.

What’s changed for you in the last year?
Cal:
It’s tough to answer on the spot. But for me, right off the top, I would say I feel like we’re finally gaining some respect that we felt we deserved for being a part of pioneering certain sounds. I feel like this is the first year where all these years of work that sometimes feel pointless are finally starting to pay off. I see that people are recognizing us and that feels good.

What’s been the biggest lesson you’ve learned about yourself creatively in the last 12 months?
Cal:
You gotta be patient. When we first signed a couple years ago, we had no idea what the music industry was like. You still gotta put the work in and can’t just expect things to happen. Above that, just be confident in your music. Because we’ve had times where we start to doubt ourselves. And when that happens, the listeners doubt too, because they can feel it. So if you don’t believe in it, nobody else is going to believe in it.

What’s been the biggest risk you’ve taken in the last year?
Bren:
Always just sticking to what we do creatively. Sometimes the music we make can be a little too abrasive but I’d rather be different than just try to be regular mainstream artists that go by the numbers. So sticking to what we do, whether people need to catch up on our type of music or not.

What is it that you want to see in the world next year?
Cal: Less mass shootings and people getting along. Less haters on the internet. Everything’s so negative lately. Everybody just hates each other. It’s getting exhausting.

What’s the biggest goal on your bucket list in the next year?
Cal:
Continue gaining that respect.

Looking back, what was your favorite year ever and why?
Cal:
7th grade, back in ‘08. I think he it’s when you first start liking girls and you’re not doing drugs or drinking yet, but it’s a great time. I miss the days when we didn’t know what rent and taxes were. Anxiety didn’t exist.

What’s the biggest secret you’ve kept this year?
Bren:
This project! It was so hard not to post a picture of us going to Mike Dean’s house or a video of us working with him. Now we finally can. That’s about the only secret I’ve kept this year.
