Sampa The Great Announces The New Album ‘As Above, So Below’ And Shares The Zamrock-Influenced ‘Never Forget’

On 2019’s The Return, Zambian-born, Australian-based rapper Sampa The Great presented her manifesto of sorts, as an African woman of the world. The album placed her firmly on the spectrum as one of today’s most unique creators and even garnered her Bandcamp’s No. 1 album of the year. When the pandemic hit, Sampa went back to her native Zambia and reconnected with her roots, delving deeper into the country’s poignant, yet under-represented musical influence — namely of Zamrock. It’s fed into the creation of her newly announced follow-up album, As Above, So Below, due out September 9th and featuring appearances from Denzel Curry, Angelique Kidjo, WITCH, Joey Badass, and others.

The album’s ethos is boldly presented on the latest single, “Never Forget,” an explosion of hip-hop, Zamrock, afrobeats, and traditional African drums. “Who did music, made that sh*t language, African branded? We did,” Sampa proclaims on the track, which features rapper Chef 187, songwriter Tio Nason, and Sampa’s sister, Mwanjé. Zamrock bands of the 70’s like WITCH (who are touring in the US this year) didn’t have the opportunity to tour the world back then, so the genre remained a sleeping giant of sorts — even for a native like Sampa, who grew up in Botswana before moving to Australia. Sampa explains how her enlightenment has now become her journey and it’s masterfully captured in the music video for “Never Forget,” directed by Rharha Nembhard.

“‘Never Forget’ is an ode to Zamrock music,” Sampa says in a statement. “A genre born in the ’70s combining traditional Zambian music and psychedelic rock. In particular, the song focuses on kalindula music. This tribute was inspired by the band WITCH and their lead singer Mr. Jagari Chanda, who has become one of my musical mentors. I discovered Zamrock later in my life and was surprised that this music was known globally, yet not fully celebrated and acknowledged in Zambia today. It hit home for me as I felt similarities in my own journey, having had my career take off outside my birth country. I thought it was fitting to pay homage to those who came before me and merge past, present, and future through music and imagery; passing the baton from one generation to the next. The archival footage in the clip includes the late great Paul Ngozi, the late president Kenneth Kaunda (Zambia’s first president), and the legendary WITCH”

Draymond Green Gets Real About Warriors Dynasty Without Kevin Durant

At this point, everyone knows just how important Kevin Durant was to the Golden State Warriors’ dynasty. He helped them win back-to-back titles and while they were able to win championships one and four without him, it’s clear the Warriors needed him to beat Cleveland following what took place in 2016.

In fact, Draymond Green recently went on JJ Redick’s “The Old Man And The Three” podcast where they discussed the infamous KD Warriors. As Green explained, had it not been for KD, they would not have won those championships in 2017 and 2018. Green feels as though the Warriors needed KD at the time and that teams were figuring them out.

“I don’t think the outside world gave Kevin enough credit,” Green said. “I think if you came within our organization, Kevin was given all the credit. But the reality is I don’t think that teams win another championship if Kevin doesn’t come. Now you may say, ‘Ah, yeah, but y’all won the fourth one without Kevin.’ But there’s a gap in there where teams started to figure us out…We would not have beat the Cavs comin’ back around without Kevin.”

This is definitely going to make Durant happy, although he should know this already. After 2016, the Warriors were begging KD to come to Oakland, and in the end, his addition to the team helped turn the Dubs into a dynasty.

Still, Durant has yet to win without the Warriors, which is the biggest indictment of his legacy.

Kendrick Lamar Breaks Down Cost Of His Glastonbury Outfit

Kendrick Lamar was asked to break down the cost of his outfit for the Glastonbury Festival and it was revealed that his Tiffany & Co. crown of thorns cost him $3 million. In a video circulating on social media, Lamar joked with a fan about his outfit being unreleased.

While Lamar attempts to stay humble in the video, he eventually gives in enough to reveal that his clothes are from “LV” and that “this shit ain’t even out yet.” The outfit includes a white button-down shirt and black pants. When asked about the crown, he kept quiet but a member of his team admitted that it was $3 million.

Earlier this week, Tiffany & Co. announced that the crown was designed over the course of 10 months and features 8,000 diamonds. The crown required 1,300 hours of diamond-setting work. It features 50 thorns and was cast in 14 components at Tiffany’s New York workshop, before finally being assembled in the northern region of Italy.

Lamar’s pgLang co-founder, Dave Free, explained in a statement that “The crown is a godly representation of hood philosophies told from a digestible youthful lens.”

“I wear this crown,” Lamar said on stage at Glastonbury. “They judged Christ. They judge you, they judged Christ. We gonna continue to walk in his image.”

Kyrie Irving Puts Stephen A. Smith On Blast, Stephen A. Responds

Kyrie Irving has been through a lot over the past few months albeit much of it is his own doing. In fact, just a couple of days ago, it seemed like he was about to lose $30 million by joining the Los Angeles Lakers over the Brooklyn Nets. Last night, Kyrie ultimately changed his mind and decided to opt into his $37 million deal with the Nets.

Following the news, Stephen A. Smith took to Twitter with a video about Kyrie’s decision. As Smith explained, Kyrie better stop showing up for work, otherwise, this decision will not end well for him. Smith also noted that his karma and that Kyrie had this fate coming. Needless to say, it was a scathing critique of Kyrie’s business decisions.

Well, Irving saw this video and was pretty upset by it all. In the tweet down below, Kyrie addressed Smith saying that he has never heard a man of his age speak like that. Kyrie also claimed that Smith would eventually have to answer his father and even his uncles.

“You’re gonna have to explain yourself to people in your generation,” Smith said. “I am not around many 50 plus year olds that speak and act like you do, so this is new for me. But I am sure my father and my uncles can meet you on your level better than I can. We know you STEPHEN.”

Smith saw these comments which eventually led to a lengthy reply in which he told Kyrie not to go in this direction. Smith even challenged Kyrie to debate one-on-one, however, it’s safe to say Kyrie is going to decline.

Either way, things are getting very testy right now, and given his recent contract, Kyrie is remaining on high alert.

Durk also spoke about working with Lil Baby on their own collaborative album, The Voice of the Heroes. The Chicago rapper says that they’ve still got many songs in the vault and would be interested in releasing another album together.

“We was vibing so crazy in the studio, we had to. We was just in that zone. He who he is, he turned up and actually can rap. He ended up rapping his ass off, I’m changing my energy,” Durk says in the clip below. “Matter of fact, we both made each other start writing, too. He would come say something, and I was, ‘Hold on.’ I’d say [censored], he’d be, ‘Hold on.’ So that’s like the energy you would want. You would want that energy. We got so many records that we ain’t put on there.”

Durk’s The Voice of the Heroes partner is also releasing a new project. Baby announced earlier this year that his next studio album will be dropping in July.

Nike LeBron 2 To Return In This Unique PE Colorway

During the late stages of 2021, it was revealed that the Nike LeBron 2 would be returning in 2022. This is a LeBron retro that fans weren’t really expecting, although there is no doubt that no one is going to complain about it. Everyone loves some vintage kicks, and these have definitely reached icon status given everything LeBron has accomplished throughout his career.

As it turns out, the first colorway of the Nike LeBron 2 to receive a retro will be a Player Exclusive he wore against Maccabi Elite Tel Aviv back in 2004. In the image down below, you can see that this is quite the lavish colorway as the shoe has a white base all while gold is placed on the sides and even the midsole. It is a gorgeous look and considering this shoe never got a general release, it’s cool to see it back for the masses.

For now, there is no release date for this shoe, however, they should be out sometime this year, closer to the NBA season. Stay tuned to HNHH as we will be sure to bring you all of the latest news and updates from around the sneaker world. Kevin Hart & Woody Harrelson Apologize For Mispronouncing Toronto

Kevin Hart and Woody Harrelson have apologized for mispronouncing the city of Toronto throughout the runtime of their new Netflix film, The Man From Toronto. The two costars sat down with the Ottawa Sun for a new interview, in which they attempt to make amends with the city.

“You gotta remember, I’m not from Toronto. If you’re from Toronto, of course you have an understanding of how it’s supposed to be said,” Hart told the newspaper in a video call.

He continued: “It’s the name of Woody’s hitman character and all of the people who are referring to him are not from Toronto. He’s a world-renowned hitman and the legend of his killings has grown over the years and throughout his career. So, you got to think, everyone was pronouncing it that way—the Man From Miami, the Man from Wichita—it was all over. Everyone is saying Toe-RON-toe because they’re from all over the place.”

Harrelson added that they loved the time they spent in the city while shooting the film.

“Any time it’s mispronounced to Torontonians, we apologize,” Harrelson said.

The Man From Toronto was released on Netflix, last Friday. The action comedy film follows a “bumbling entrepreneur,” played by Kevin Hart who teams up with a “notorious assassin,” played by Harrelson, as explained by the streaming service’s synopsis.

In addition to Hart and Harrelson, the film stars Kaley Cuoco, Jasmine Mathews, Lela Loren, Pierson Fodé, and more.
