Will Smith Resigns from Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Says He is “Heartbroken” in Official Statement

In wake of his on-stage Oscar slap to Chris Rock, Will Smith has resigned from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

According to Deadline, Smith was facing the possibility of being expelled for a decade or more. Smith, a member of the AMPAS since 2001, resigned ahead of their decision in hopes to defuse the situation.

Smith released a statement to Deadline:

I have directly responded to the Academy’s disciplinary hearing notice, and I will fully accept any and all consequences for my conduct. My actions at the 94th Academy Awards presentation were shocking, painful, and inexcusable. The list of those I have hurt is long and includes Chris, his family, many of my dear friends and loved ones, all those in attendance, and global audiences at home. I betrayed the trust of the Academy. I deprived other nominees and winners of their opportunity to celebrate and be celebrated for their extraordinary work. I am heartbroken. I want to put the focus back on those who deserve attention for their achievements and allow the Academy to get back to the incredible work it does to support creativity and artistry in film. So, I am resigning from membership in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and will accept any further consequences the Board deems appropriate.

Change takes time and I am committed to doing the work to ensure that I never again allow violence to overtake reason.

Sources state that while Smith’s expulsion was an option, the Academy never considered taking his Oscar away.

“We have received and accepted Mr. Will Smith’s immediate resignation from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences,” AMPAS president David Rubin said in a statement Friday. “We will continue to move forward with our disciplinary proceedings against Mr. Smith for violations of the Academy’s Standards of Conduct, in advance of our next scheduled board meeting on April 18.”

In the video, Tory gives a big shout-out to all of the cities in Florida, then he dedicated his flow and track to Boward County’s own Kodak Black.

Tory says, “Kodak you’re going to be proud of this flow right here. Watch this.” Lanez then proceeds on with his Kodak inspired rap.

This is another release from Lanez’s Fargo Friday drops. “Florida Sh*t” is a follow-up from “Taken Care” and “Cap.”

Tracy McGrady’s One-on-One Basketball League Launches April 30

Tracy McGrady is redefining the professional game of basketball. Usually, in pro leagues, basketball is a team sport. It takes a team effort to win; that won’t be the case in the Ones Association. The Ones Basketball Association, started by former NBA all-star Tracy McGrady, will be a professional basketball league that only highlights a player’s talent.

T-Mac said he got the idea of starting the OBA because, according to him, the younger generation has a hard time watching games for an extended period.

“I have two sons of my own, and then I run an AAU program. My boys don’t watch NBA games, my boys don’t watch college basketball, and even the guys in my program can’t sit down and watch two and a half, three hours of basketball,” McGrady, the father of two, revealed.

“But what they can do is short form like Youtube and highlights and stuff like that, they gravitate towards, so why not create something that’s short, entertaining, and what they can resonate with, because they play one-on-one basketball all the time,” he added.

The OBA will be an invite-only league, and it’ll begin on April 30 in Houston, traveling to seven cities across the country. The league will make stops in Atlanta, Chicago, and New York, before ending in the Bay Area in June.

There will be 32 participants in each city, with the top three players earning an invite to the Finals in Las Vegas. While the winner of each will win $10,000, the final 21 players will compete head-to-head in the championship round for a chance to win the $250,000 grand prize and be crowned “King of the Court.”

The OBA will then launch monthly head-to-head battles, similar to a boxing match or UFC fight, where there will be several undercards playing on a given night.

McGrady said he’s looking to find “the baddest basketball player, one-on-one basketball player, the ruler of the court.”

“It’s like UFC fighting,” he explained. “When those guys are going up against each other, we know who’s the baddest man because it’s just one-on-one.”

T-Mac interviewed with BroBible to discuss his new one vs. one basketball league in full detail. He added that this league is a league that gives athletes a second chance.

“That’s what I’m building; giving guys an opportunity who may have made a left turn along their journey toward their professional career…I’m identifying those guys and have a great story to tell with these participants,” McGrady added.

The Fivio Foreign Tour takes off on May 6th in Salt Lake City before going to the West Coast for a highly anticipated hometown event at Irving Plaza. Fans can look forward to seeing B.I.B.L.E singles live for the first time.

“I’ve never been on tour, so this is mad exciting for me. I’m excited to go to places I’ve never been and see the reaction from my fans in real life,” Fivio Foreign said of the tour.

Afro-French Cuban Duo Ibeyi Connects With Jorja Smith On New Single, “Lavender & Red Roses”

Ahead of the arrival of Spell 31, the Ibeyi twins have linked up with R&B sensation Jorja Smith to deliver a magical new single titled “Lavender & Red Roses.” 

As The Fader notes, the nearly three-minute-long arrival came along with an alluring new music video that finds our three vocalists headed out on a journey throughout the desert.

“I didn’t see this collaboration coming, but I’m so glad the universe conspired in our favour,” one YouTube user wrote in the comment section. Others focused on the single’s subliminal message, writing, “The Maiden, The Mother, and The Matriarch. The Divine Feminine is rising to bring us back into balance as we usher in this Age of Aquarius.”

Spell 31 is set to arrive on DSPs on May 6th via XL Recordings, and will feature already released songs “Sister 2 Sister” and “Made of Gold” featuring Pa Salieu, as well as a cover of Black Flag’s “Rise Against.”

Fivio Foreign Releases Album Track List

Fivio Foreign fans will finally be treated to a full-length album from the Brooklyn drill rapper. His debut studio album B.I.B.L.E (Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth), will arrive on April 8. Fivio unveiled the offical cover art a few days ago and now, he’s dropped the features. 

In a promo video he posted on his social media, Fivio gives a little preview of what fans can expect. “With this life, right, as a rapper, this is work right? But at the same time this is who you are,”he says in the video. “You might know me as daddy. You might know me as baby. You might know me as Fivi. You might konw me as Maxie. You all know me different. But I’m me. I don’t regret nothign. But even right now all this shit stop right here, I’m thankful. I’m thankful because it happened.”

The clip then revelas the star-studded lineup including ASAP Rocky, Alicia Keys, Chloe Bailey, Kanye West, Ne-Yo, Coi Leray, Blueface, DJ Khaled, Kaycyy, Lil TJay, Lil Yachty, Polo G, Quavo, Queen Naija, Vory, and Yung Bleu.

Jim Carrey Is Considering Retirement: “I Have Enough, I’ve Done Enough, I Am Enough”

Jim Carrey may be ready to hang up his acting hat. During an interview with Access earlier this week, the Canadian entertainer revealed that the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 2 may be his last project.

“Well, I’m retiring,” the 60-year-old told the outlet after being asked about the possibility of working with country music sensation Dolly Parton, who’s previously expressed interest in a collaboration. “Yeah, probably. I’m being fairly serious.”

“I feel like – and this is something you might never hear another celebrity say as long as time exists – I have enough. I’ve done enough. I am enough,” The Mask star continued.

As host Kit Hoover pressed to find out how serious Carrey was about his claims, he shared that he wouldn’t be opposed to working on a script that was particularly extraordinary. “It depends if the angels bring some sort of script that’s, you know, written in gold ink that says to me that it’s going to be really important for people to see, I might continue down the road, but I’m taking a break.”

The Newmarket native went on to explain that he has other areas of his life – including painting and his spirituality – that are particularly important to him right now, although he would be down to have a conversation with the “Jolene” singer.

“I would always speak to Dolly,” Carrey confirmed, calling the vocalist “another worldly talent that is just bigger than you can imagine.”

As Page Six notes, the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog sequel hits theatres on April 8th, and if The Grinch Who Stole Christmas himself is serious, it could be the last time we see him on the big screen.
