Mickey Guyton Will Sing The National Anthem At Super Bowl LVI

Even if you don’t follow country music super closely, odds are you’ve already heard of Mickey Guyton. The rising country star is part of a movement within the genre that is demanding the whitewashing in country must stop — and that artists like Morgan Wallen, who was caught on tape saying the “N word” and still saw a surge in sales and popularity — not be the only ones representing their genre.

Guyton’s debut album, Remember Her Name, was released in September last year, and she’s already preceded that with a couple of EPs and impactful singles that made waves, like “Black Like Me,” one of her earliest breakout hits “Better Than You Left Me,” and my personal favorite, “Rosé.” With the release of “Black Like Me,” Guyton became the first Black woman to ever be nominated by the Grammys for the Best Country Solo Performance category, and has been making waves in so many ways since.

One honor that Guyton is kicking off 2022 with is the opportunity to sing the national anthem at this year’s Super Bowl. The Bengals will be facing off against the Rams, and Guyton will be there to help open up the biggest game of the year. “Look at God. I am shook, I am grateful, I am praise dancing…” she wrote on Twitter with the news. “So excited to be singing the national anthem at #SBLVI on February 13th!” Tune in to get a taste of her stunning vocals this Sunday at Super Bowl LVI.

Broccoli City Festival Is Returning In 2022 With 21 Savage, Ari Lennox, And Of Course, Wale

Here’s some great news for residents of the DMV area: Beloved hip-hop and R&B festival Broccoli City is returning for the first time in three years after being canceled due to COVID concerns in 2020 and 2021. The festival’s organizers announced the dates and lineup today after the two-year hiatus, bringing a worthy selection of both hometown heroes and national favorites to the RFK Festival Grounds in Washington DC on May 7 and 8.

From the local side of things, Broccoli City has booked Ari Lennox, Masego, Rico Nasty, and of course, festival mainstay and DC’s unofficial rap ambassador Wale. Elsewhere on the bill, trap rap faves 21 Savage, Gunna, and Jeezy will bring the Atlanta sound to the stage, while drill pioneers Lil Durk and Babyface Ray will bring that unique sound. Rising stars Alex Vaughn, Don Toliver, Joony, Joyce Wrice, Larry June, Muni Long, and Tems will bring a variety of vibes, with Nigerian superstar Wizkid contributing some Afrobeats to round things out.

The last Broccoli City festival that actually went on as planned took place in 2019, headlined by Childish Gambino and Lil Wayne. Interestingly enough, it also featured Gunna and Wizkid on the bill, so it’s nice to see them returning and bringing the festival full circle in its return. Drake Channels Michael Jordan With Latest Move On The Court

Drake is a huge basketball fan, which should be pretty obvious by now. The man is the global ambassador for the Toronto Raptors, and he also has a basketball court in his home. With that being said, it is very clear that he has dedicated a lot of his time to the sport, while also managing his duties as an artist who is trying to satiate his fan’s desire for brand new music.

Whenever Drake has some free time, he tries to get in some pick-up games on his court, and over the weekend, that is exactly what he did. Throughout the game, Drake seemed to be playing quite well, and he pulled off some moves that showcase his improvement as a player.

In the clip below, which was reposted by DJ Akademiks, Drake was all over the court, and at one point, he did a spin-around fadeaway shot that had some Michael Jordan inspiration behind it. Of course, Drake is by no means facing the same competition, although it is fun to see him getting off these shots in his downtime. At the end of the day, everyone wants to be the hero in the gym, and when you actually own the gym you’re playing in, winning is that much sweeter.

Drake has one of the nicest private basketball gyms in the world, and we’re sure it must be an incredible experience to play there, even if the artist is burning you with fadeaways.

Cuban Link Stuns At The “Power Book IV: Force” Premiere, Shares Interesting Series Theory

While La La Anthony commanded a lot of attention at this past weekend’s Power Book IV: Force premiere, Cuban Link’s gorgeous blue dress has been getting plenty of praise as well.

The 25-year-old – whose real name is Jamira Haines – attended the event with her boyfriend 50 Cent and famous friends like Joseph Sikora, Ice-T, Coco Austin, and Jeremih, among many others.

“Such an amazing time!” she captioned an Instagram post highlighting some of her favourite moments from the big evening. “This one’s going to be (another) great show!! Congrats everyone #forcepremiere.”

Elsewhere on her Instagram page, the model dropped off an intriguing fan theory that’s gotten a lot of people talking. “What if Mecca is Ghost’s brother?” the screenshot implored readers to ask themselves. “In book one, Tommy asked Ghost what happened to his brother and called him ‘that Spanish [motherf*cker]’ and Ghost said he was in the military.”

“Then Money and Mecca talked about how he left her to join the military years ago [and] Ghost speaks Spanish too. These two are brothers, let’s argue,” the text continues above photos of the two characters in question.

Clearly, Cuban saw some validity in the speculation. “Wait wait hold up,” she wrote in the caption. “Curtis better get his ass upstairs right now!! We gone talk about this one!!”

Sony Acquires ‘Halo’ And ‘Destiny’ Developer Bungie For $3.6B

On Monday, Sony Interactive Entertainment announced it has acquired Bungie for $3.6B. Bungie is iconic for its development of the Halo series and Destiny. 

Sony revealed that the studio will remain multiplatform which could make Bungie’s future games available to platforms other than PlayStation. Previously owned by Microsoft Game Studios, Bungie is best known for creating and developing the Halo franchise from 2001 to 2010. After ending the partnership with Microsoft in 2007, the Halo series was handed over to 343 Industries.

“We have found a partner in Playstation that shares our dream and is committed to accelerating our creative vision of building generation-spanning entertainment. Our journey begins today,” Bungie confirmed the new acquisition via Twitter. 

Sony’s chairman, president, and CEO Kenichiro Yoshida shared his excitement about the new deal, “Bungie has created and continues to evolve some of the world’s most beloved videogram franchises and, by aligning its values with people’s desire to share gameplay experiences, they bring together millions of people around the world.” He also added, “As part of our Purpose to ‘fill the world with emotion, through the power of creativity and technology, we will utilize the Sony Group’s diverse array of entertainment and technology assets to support further evolution of Bungie and its ability to create iconic worlds across multiple platforms and media.”

The acquisition is just the first of many upcoming deals for the multiplatform company. 

Bungie is currently working on bringing more content to Destiny 2. At this time, Destiny 2 will remain on other platforms.

Hundreds Of Astroworld Lawsuits Combined Into One Massive Case

Nearly 400 separate lawsuits filed against Live Nation and Travis Scott regarding the Astroworld music festival are being combined into one massive case, a Texas court panel ruled, last week.

“We conclude that the cases arising out of the Incident are related, and we find that transfer of those case would result in more efficient pretrial of the related cases,” the Texas Judicial Panel On Multidistrict Litigation wrote in its decision.

The case will take on a total of 387 more separate lawsuits representing just under 2,800 alleged victims. The lawsuits accuse Live Nation and Scott of negligence in the handling of the giant music festival that left 10 dead and hundreds more injured.

One representative, Brent Coon & Associates, had previously held out, arguing that the “process was unnecessary,” but has since fallen in line.

The lawsuits are seeking nearly $3 billion in damages.

The panel did not note which Texas state judge will handle the upcoming case; however, the alleged victims requested Judge Lauren Reeder.

“I’m absolutely devastated by what took place last night,” Scott said after the festival. “My prayers go out to the families and all of those impacted by what happened at Astroworld Festival.
