Mac Miller Staged A Two-Part Attack On “100 Grandkids”

On this day in 2018, the hip-hop world was saddened by the shocking news of Mac Miller’s death at the age of 26. Several years later, the pain of loss still runs deep. It feels fitting to highlight one of the many standout songs of his impressive and varied catalog, which includes such beloved projects as K.I.D.S, Watching Movies With The Sound Off, Faces, and GOOD AM.

Speaking of the latter — GOOD AM is an interesting one, as it serves as a stylistic and thematic transition point for Mac. Though he’d later go on to tackle themes like love, relationships, and mental health on albums like The Divine Feminine and Swimming, many still look to his more rap-heavy era as his prime.

As such, “100 Grandkids” feels like a well-deserved victory lap, a hybrid of Mac’s multifaceted persona — the playful, aloof, and carefree youth and his more debaucherous, hedonistic, and willfully ignorant counterpart. Here, both sides are exemplified by a two-part musical shift, produced by the tandem of I.D. Labs and Sha Money XL.

Rest in peace Mac Miller — four years removed from his tragic death, have you kept GOOD AM on repeat rotation?

Quotable Lyrics

I made a mill’ before I paid a bill
Cause fools worried about a wave, I’m a Navy SEAL
Come with me, I can make your life change for real
Always had a dream of stuntin’, it ain’t nothing unless you runnin’ shit
Just a young muthafucker with a plan

Air Jordan 5 “Oreo” Gets New Release Date

One of the best Air Jordan 5 models to be shown off this year has been the “Oreo” retro. This is a shoe that showed up in the mid-2000s and since that time, fans have been asking for it to come back. Interestingly enough, this is one of the most popular models to be posted on HNHH this year and even though it is a basic colorway, fans seem enamored with its return to the market.

In the official images below, you can see how this shoe mostly has a black nubuck upper all while the midsole is white with a black and white speckled shark tooth extension. The icy blue outsole helps give the shoe its clean look and when you put all of these elements together, you get a sneaker that is solid for any occasion.

The release was supposed to take place on Saturday, September 18th, however now, the shoe has been pushed back by one week to September 25th, when the shoe will drop for $190 USD. Stay tuned to HNHH for more sneaker updates and give us your thoughts on these, in the comments section below.

Drake Says His Giannis Antetokounmpo Lyric On ‘Certified Lover Boy’ Was Inspired By A Tweet

There are a lot of lyrics on Drake’s Certified Lover Boy, given that the album runs for nearly 90 minutes. One of the standout lines, though, is when he references Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo on “7am On Bridle Path”: “Could at least keep it a buck like Antetokounmpo.” The multi-syllabic name doesn’t exactly lend itself to being mentioned in a song, but Drake says he did it because he was challenged to on Twitter.

Over the weekend, ESPN re-shared a tweet on their Instagram that was originally posted after the Bucks won the NBA championship last season, a tweet that played off the fact that Drake has been known to name-drop athletes in his songs: “Drake working Antetokounmpo into a line is gonna be tricky but he’ll figure out something.” In the comments of ESPN’s post, Drake confirmed that this tweet was what inspired him to mention Antetokounmpo on “7am On Bridle Path,” writing, “Only did it cause of this tweet.”

All that said, the song is perhaps most notable for who it doesn’t mention, at least not by name, as fans are convinced that throughout “7am On Bridle Path,” Drake takes jabs at Kanye West as the two rappers continue to feud.

Latto Issues Warning To Her Competition

Perhaps the Hip-Hop community has Kanye West, Drake, and Kendrick Lamar to thank for it, but the past several weeks have undoubtedly rekindled the competitive spirit in rap. In a recent post, 2020 XXL Freshman Latto reveals that although she has been laying low for a while, she is preparing to come back with a vengeance.

Just as Sha’Carri Richardson recently made it clear that she is choosing violence from now on, Big Latto has also turned to social media in order to let her competitors and fans know that she’s about to go full throttle when she starts dropping music again.

“I been laying low perfecting my craft this year,” Latto stated in a tweet on Sunday evening, “so when I start this rollout I hope bitches ready.”

As she alluded to in her tweet, 2021 has been somewhat of a lowkey year for the steadily rising rapper. In addition to hitting the festival circuit heavy, Latto has only released two solo singles throughout the course of the past eight months. More notably, however, the Atlanta rapper did have a highly publicized name change at the start of the summer, which was documented with the release of her May single “The Biggest.”

Now that you’ve seen her warning, are you ready for Latto to start dropping heat again?

T-Pain Recalls When Kanye West Stole His Bar

T-Pain has no shortage of stories stemming from his long and extensive career, and over a weekend Twitch stream he shared an amusing anecdote about the time Kanye West directly store one of his bars — after deeming it to be corny, no less.

“Kanye stole one of my corny lines,” he reveals. “I couldn’t believe it. Kanye stole one of my corny lines after he told me it was corny. I don’t think he said it better. I don’t think anything happened where his was better than mine. Mine was out, I was showing Kanye. I was working on Watch The Thone. I was so proud of my new mixtape I had, and it was mostly rap.”

“On one of the songs I said something like ‘I got beef like two burgers, you n***as win slow and I’m smarter than Steve Urkel,” he recalls, speaking on his song “Danger.” “Keep in mind the Winslow family is corny as fuck, I knew it was corny when I said it. Kanye confirmed it — he was like don’t ever say anything like that.”

“And then after that, one of his lines was ‘too many Urkels, that’s why your wins low,'” he continues, referencing the introductory track on My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. “I was like — did this n***a try to get me to not say my shit so he could say his shit? I was like what the fuck?” He even reenacts Kanye’s entire demeanor during that initial listening session. “I was like my n***a, what?!”

Clearly, Kanye’s psych-up tactic worked, and T-Pain learned a valuable lesson in the process. “This is why I say corny lines,” he continues. “I know in my heart that they’re corny, but if the right person says it, they’re not corny anymore. Apparently. A n***a is gettin’ lifted to the ceiling with a light shining on him, and you n***as is paying 50 dollars for chicken fingers to listen to an unfinished album…twice.”

Say what you will about T-Pain’s bars, but damned if he’s not one of the best hip-hop storytellers sharing tales right now. Check it out for yourself below.
