Kobe Bryant’s Game-Worn Rookie Jersey Poised To Break Record

Kobe Bryant’s legendary career with the Los Angeles Lakers was well-documented and there is no denying that he had some iconic moments with the team. Kobe was drafted to the Lakers all the way back in 1996 and while he wasn’t an immediate star, there was no denying that he was a motivated player who wanted to put the team on his back. Lakers fans look back fondly on his early years with the team and having said that, it should come as no surprise that memorabilia from his rookie campaign is a hot commodity.

According to TMZ, Goldin Auctions is currently selling a game-worn jersey from Kobe’s rookie season, and the word on the street is that it will most likely sell for over $500K. That’s a whole lot of money especially when you consider how the record for a jersey sale is $570K, and that was for Michael Jordan’s last ever Wizards jersey.

It remains to be seen how much collectors will be willing to spend on this new piece although we imagine it will come close to or exceed the record, altogether. Kobe is a legend and his memorabilia goes for a lot of money these days.

If you could get this piece into your collection, you would have something that will never go down in value.

Jay-Z Finalizes Tidal Deal With Jack Dorsey’s Square, Inc.: Report

It feels like just yesterday that Jay-Z had unveiled Tidal and announced that artists such as Kanye West, Beyoncé, Daft Punk, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, Usher, and J. Cole were also owners of the fledgling streaming service. Well, six years and plenty of Tidal bars later, Hov’s streaming service appears to be one of the best investments that he made over the past decade.

At the top of March, it was revealed that Square, Inc. would be acquiring a majority stake in Tidal for a reported $297 million. Now, Jay-Z’s deal with Square has reportedly closed and landed on a slightly larger figure at $350 million.

According to TMZ, Square, Inc. will receive 80% ownership of Tidal, along with licensing deals with the major record labels in exchange for the hefty $350 million sum, and all of the previous artists/owners will remain with the company too. The recently pardoned Roc Nation CEO Desiree Perez allegedly helped broker the deal, and TMZ reports that she will also stay on board to help run the streaming service.

By closing this huge deal with Square, Inc., Hov has made himself and the rest of Tidal’s owners a nice chunk of change, proving once again that he’s not a businessman, he’s a business, man! Congratulations to Jay-Z on this monumental deal.

Conway The Machine Peeps Game From JAY-Z, DJ Khaled, & Nas

Conway The Machine is among the few among the “new generation” of artists that actively respects and studies the craft of his predecessors. Therefore, despite being an OG in his own right, he can appreciate the wisdom of those who have achieved success and longevity in the rap game.

It’s rare to see an artist exemplify the roles of both student and teacher, but Conway leads by example behind the mic while soaking up game whenever given the opportunity. Today, the Griselda lyricist took a moment to share a picture (snapped by Conway’s creative director Made In New York) from what can only be described as a meeting of the bosses, as attended by DJ Khaled, Jay-Z, Nas, and Damson Idris. From the way the first three are dressed, it may very well have been around the time the “Sorry Not Sorry” video was shot.

“In a room with brothers that are all richer than me.. that means I’m in the right room!!” captions Conway, showcasing the attitude of one who aspires to grow. While it’s unclear as to what was discussed, it’s clear that Conway is looking to some of the game’s most successful businessmen, with JAY-Z and Nas holding two of hip-hop’s impeccable investment portfolios. Don’t be surprised to see Machine shift his focus accordingly, having previously teased his retirement from hip-hop at some point in the future. But not, thankfully, before the release of God Don’t Make Mistakes, his anticipated Shady Records debut album.

Check out Conway’s behind-the-scenes picture of his meeting with JAY, Nas, Khaled, and more, below. And who knows — perhaps this recent networking opportunity will lead to collaborations on future musical endeavors.

Lil West has officially returned with his new single “Date A Star.” The Delaware native has been on the come up for a few years, taking over hip-hop’s underground scene with impressive projects and single releases. Signed to Nomad Records, an imprint of Republic Records, Lil West continues to rise with the new Steezefield-produced single, which sees him warning a potential partner about his fame.

Realizing that not everybody is set out to have a relationship with somebody in the limelight, Lil West issues a message to a partner that he has been courting, telling them that he’s aware it’s hard to date a star.

With more music on the way all year, look for Lil West to make an impact in the coming months. Listen to the new single below.

Quotable Lyrics:

Pull up with you at the crib
Hated by all of your friends
Know they don’t want you to get involved
I am the one that they hated on
Don’t want you to be in the scene
I know they hate what you think
I know it’s hard when you date a star

Cardi B Wrote And Recorded Her Lyrics For DJ Khaled’s ‘Big Paper’ In Just Two Days

DJ Khaled released his new album Khaled Khaled today, but just yesterday, he changed the tracklist by adding a new Cardi B-featuring song, “Big Paper.” It turns out the song truly was a last-minute affair, as Cardi says she wrote and recorded her contributions to the track in just two days.

In a recent Instagram Live broadcast, Cardi said, “Literally, I didn’t [think] I was going to make the record, to be honest with you. I didn’t [think] I was going to make it. I got the beat before yesterday… and yes, I wrote the record. And I was just like brainstorming, brainstorming […]. One thing I’ve been really insecure about is my accent — I have a really big accent — and my pronunciation. So I was making sure that everything was mixed right. Literally, I think Khaled got the song today […] at 7 a.m. my time. […] I hope you guys like it. It’s just a little something-something to hold y’all up until I release my next project.”

Following the broadcast, Cardi had doubters who didn’t believe that she actually made the song as quickly as she says she did. Cardi responded by sharing a video from Khaled (which she has since deleted), which he filmed on Wednesday and in which he says he’s still waiting for Cardi’s vocals.

Khaled Khaled is out now via Epic Records. Get it here.

Cardi B is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Coi Leray Makes Her TV Debut Performing ‘No More Parties’ On ‘The Tonight Show’

Coi Leray may have blown up this year with the TikTok favorite “No More Parties,” but the 23-year-old New Jersey rapper is no greenhorn. While her appearance on The Tonight Show to perform the breakout hit on Thursday constituted her television debut, the performance itself was more polished and professional than many, with an off-camera band performing a dazzling arrangement, engaging staging that played into the theme, and the sort of swaggering confidence that comes with putting in the work to be a star.

The charisma exuded by the second-generation rap star (her dad is Benzino, the Boston rapper who famously battled with Eminem in the early 2000s) is what prompted her inclusion in Uproxx’s “Rappers To Watch Out For In 2021,” bolstered by her slick performances on mixtapes Everythingcoz and EC2.

I first caught on the wave with her 2018 video for “Huddy,” a hard-hitting thumper that showcased Coi’s quirky personality and a real gift for penning blunt witticisms. While “No More Parties” is something of a departure from the more straightforward bars and rhymes on “Huddy,” the seeming disparity between the singles actually highlights her versatility as an artist. That’s why she’s suddenly in such high demand, with features on Yung Bleu’s “Thieves In Atlanta,” DDG’s “Impatient,” and TruCarr’s “Beat It Up,” as well as a cameo in Mooski’s “Track Star” video — her star power is shining through the TikTok trending, revealing an artist who is destined to be more than just a one-hit wonder.

PnB Rock Sings About A Failed Relationship On “Need Somebody”

PnB Rock may be at odds with his label, who he has been calling out for allegedly not paying him, but that doesn’t mean he’s going to be inactive with his music. Despite the fact that he claims he hasn’t seen a cent from his label, telling them he wants to be released from his contract, he continues to prove why he’s one of the most talented songwriters in the game, releasing his new single “Need Somebody.”

The new music video was teased earlier this week, starting out with a toxic fight between PnB Rock and his girlfriend. They appear to break up, which leaves the singer feeling pretty lost. “Need Somebody” goes through his emotions following the argument, reminding his girl that he knows he messed up and will do better in the future.

Listen to the new single from PnB Rock below and let us know what you want to see from the veteran artist this year.

Quotable Lyrics:

Damn, I f*cked up pretty bad
Yeah, I know I was tripping
I know what you thinking, yeah right, what’s the difference?
I was creeping on the low and f*cking all these b*tches
Whole time you knew ’cause that’s just women’s intuition
Thinking with my head, not the one on my shoulders
By the time I realized we was already over

YNW Melly & Kodak Black’s Music Video For “Thugged Out” Is Chaotic

YNW Melly has been behind bars since the beginning of 2019, and although he is facing some life-threatening charges, the artist’s team as well as several of his fans are still holding out hope that YNW Melly will be released from prison soon. With that said, nothing has stopped the controversial Florida artist from dropping new music.

Over the past two months, YNW Melly has released two new singles: the childish “Na Na Na Boo Boo” and the Kodak Black-assisted track “Thugged Out.” Now, the Melly vs. Melvin artist has treated fans with a music video for the latter.

The video starts with Kodak Black and a couple of his friends calling YNW Melly, who unfortunately can’t be a part of his single’s new visuals. As a consolation, however, the “Thugged Out” video then reveals that the entire visual project is envisioned by the incarcerated rapper. From that point on, viewers are treated to wild visuals featuring an old later rocking “Free Melly” merch and carrying a huge gun, a person riding a bike while dressed up as a chicken, and a news report getting his tv segment hijacked.

All in all, YNW Melly and Kodak Black’s visuals for “Thugged Out” are absolutely chaotic, and as one YouTube viewer pointed out, “[the] music video is more random than an episode of Family Guy.” To see all of the absurdities packed within the four-minute video, scroll back up to watch the new visuals for YNW Melly and Kodak Black’s recent single “Thugged Out.”
